The "only one suit" thread

Quick question. I have a dark navy blue suit. The guy at the store said to wear brown shoes rather than black shoes. What do you all say?

Black always works. Brown is supposed to bring out the character of a navy suit, but it could backfire if the occasion calls for something more conservative.

Agree with cheerwind. Brown is fine under normal circumstances though.

I would favor oxblood/burgundy over brown, myself.

Or a nice pair of Alden Shell Cordovan monk straps in No. 8 (cordovan color).

I can't say that I've been a great fan of monk straps on my own feet but I looked the Aldens up and they're quite handsome. My favorite pair in that color are is the Florsheim Kenmoor Long Wing in "wine".
