    Unhappy What's happened to B&B?

When I first joined this forum, only six short months (but a seeming lifetime) ago, it was a place of great friendship, comraderie, information and intellect.

Now, much like many other online fora, it feels to me as if it has become a place of cliques, splinter groups, and crass opinionation.

I no longer look forward to whiling away the hours on B&B -- in fact, I find that when I do log on, I have hardly anything at all to say, and there are very few threads which hold any interest for me at all; and I am referring to the substantive threads as well, not just the Barbershop/Clowning around threads.

Maybe I'm just getting bored, or old or tired, but I really feel that something has changed around here, and not for the better.

    With Much Regret,

    Neil

Default I hear what you are saying....

Nothing wrong with taking a break. I just got back from a B&B sabbatical. And it was good.

I've been feeling the same, and the repetitiveness of the threads does get draining at times.

And then a political/religious/polarizing comment or thread is posted under the guise of humor.

Those who disagree are said to be humorless and can't take a joke. The member who posted the initial comment/thread is said to be disrespectful. Pile on 30 or 40 more comments and the thread is closed. Repeat.

Sigh ... sounds like I'm ready for a B&B break myself.

I think everyone should take a break, except me, and those selling things in the BST.

Gotta find a way to score some of those deals

    That's more like it!

I don't mean to say I'm giving up quite yet. I'm really just wondering if I'm the only one who feels this way (and judging by the PM's I've gotten in response to this thread, I am not alone).

There's probably nothing to do about it anyway, so it amounts to nothing more than an old man's griping.

Go ahead, call me a curmudgeon.

I dunno. I seem to be having a good time, but then again I am a noob and still immune to nostalgia. Perhaps in six months I shall feel as you do.

But for now I am gleaning much wisdom in the art of wetshaving and spending too much time in the Clown House.

Please don't go away, I'm certain that I will need to rely on you at some point in the future when I still can't get BBS.

Neil...this thread makes you just like Hitler or the Nazis.

    LOL...

Ok, what would you like to talk about? This is your thread. I'll put the kettle on, you just relax and take a deep breath, and lets see if we can make you feel more at home. How was school today, son?

I know what you mean. I ran into B&B on the street today. It was awkward. We'd both changed. We said that we'd get together for a drink some time, but we both know we never will.

I'm not sure if these are meant to be chiding posts or making light of the OP, but let's give Neil the benefit of the doubt. He expresses a legitimate opinion/observation even if others may not agree with him.

Neil, you seem to be a part of the biggest clique here with that "czar" hat in your avatar.

The czar thing here at B&B was funny for a while, but seems to have gotten old, IMO.

Did you get the "I'll call you!" parting shot as well? I hate those.

The other day I ran into B&B, and the "new guy" was there with it. He seemed like a total jerk. B&B looked good and all, like it had lost weight and had been working out, and I let it know that I'm doing just dandy, and had a "new forum in my life" but we both knew it was a lie...B&B acted like it was perfectly happy without me, and I guess with Mr. Perfect in the frame, it was true. I went and got drunk and cried myself to sleep.

I'm not making LIGHT of his opinion (or chiding him for that matter) at all...I understand perfectly how he feels, I just wish he didn't feel that way...that's all. I was simply trying to lighten the mood.

I'm sorry if my post was obscure. I was chiding him. When we start to get nostalgic for a golden age that happened six months ago, I think that it's time to lighten up a little.

Well, I have to be honest with myself. After I mistakenly called him "Shave Den" it was never the same.

Austin, you'll always be welcome in my home. Just don't put your feet up on my coffee table.
