Thumbs up Penhaligon's Opus 1870 AS worth price?

I shaved with Penhaligon's Opus 1870 shaving cream this morning. I absolutely love this scent, and can still smell it several hours later. I have primarily switched to shaving soaps, but none my soaps come close to matching the incredible scent of the Opus 1870. If Pen's made the Opus 1870 in a shaving soap, I think my SSAD would be cured.

I am thinking about buying the Pen's Opus 1870 AS balm, but I haven't seen any reviews on this particular aftershave. It's $55 a tube, so it's easily the most expensive AS I have considered picking up.

Has anyone tried the AS? Any thoughts?

IMO, for a balm, it's very good. But 55.00 a tube good? No way.

I agree with Rob. I love the scent and feel of Pen's balms (I have a bit of Blenheim) but for the price, I'd rather drop 30-40 more bones and get a bottle of Edt that will last throughout the day...

Yup. Good stuff but very pricey. I got lucky and picked up one of their Opus sampler packs on sale a while ago. Great for cooler/drier weather, and it retains that lovely scent. Matches well with Cade splash or a dab of Endymion EdT.

A little goes a VERY long way, so in the end, it may be a little bit better of a deal than the initial sticker shock would have you believe. If you can find one of the smaller tubes, that would be a good alternative to a full size one, IMO.

I have only been able to find the 150 ml size. Since I already know I like the scent, I'll probably just get the 150 ml size. Where did you buy the Opus sampler pack, just in case I decide to check it out? I didn't see travel sizes or sampler packs on the Penhaligon's or Shoplondon web sites.

You could try emailing Jim at Vintage Blades...he might have something you're looking for.

I love Penhaligon's scents....but all the "side products" are WAY overpriced, IMO. My feeling is, if you like the scent, buy the EdT, and use more practical aftershaves and creams.

Sorry for the late reply...glad you got a tube! Don't think you'll be disappointed. I picked up my sampler during one of shoplondon's specials last year.

That is sound advice. However, I do loves me some Castile, and I enjoy that I can occasionally do a full run with that wonderful scent (bath gel / shaving cream / after shave / EdT).
