What's new

Am I a shave geek? Or am I just cooler than everyone else I know?

you will know you have reached true shavegeek-hood when your wife/significant other walks into the room while you're watching a mantic video, and your first reaction is to hide it and bring up a porn site (you know, so she doesn't think you're doing anything weird...)

i keep having the same conversations with my wife....basically i have convinced her that geek is good, nerd is bad ;)

on that basis, shave geek is not such a bad thing.

You laugh... that happens to me all the time... Sometimes I enjoy this site so much I feel like it must be wrong... :blushing:

As I stated in a previous post, I picked up some Aqua Velva based on all the great reviews on it here. I had it sitting on the counter in the bathroom and my wife said to me, "What's with the Aqua Velva? Isn't that stuff cheap?"

I said, "People in the know HIGHLY recommend it and you know what, they're right!"

She said, "There are people in the know about Aqua Velva???"

I said, "You don't know the half of it... there are people in the know about all things shaving. These guys can tell you the history of after shaves, what they think about different shave creams, they have videos of different shave techniques, they can talk about how great a particular razor is for days on end. If I ever have a question about a problem I'm having shaving, I post it and within minutes, someone has some great advice for me. It's actually really cool!"

She said, "Yeah, reeeeaal cool..." :rolleyes5

So that got me wondering. Am I officially a shave geek or am I just cooler than everyone else I know now?

Yes to both what a good problem to have.

Newb here who also picked up some AV for the same reason (plus I wanted my wife to know that there is something about an AV man...). For the record she hates the stuff and I secretly sneak some on before leaving for work.

Also, as a newb, I respect all the shavegeekness that I've come to enjoy so much on this forum. Who else understands? (certainly not most of the guys I try to 'share' with).

Now I'm off to Windsor, Ontario to get me some green AV!!!!!

Watch out for the border patrol/customs. (again, ask Lynchmeister)

SO TRUE...whenever I start talking to someone about shave stuff, or they comment on all the soaps and razors and whatnot in my house, they just give that patient yet skeptical look while I blather on about it. Eventually, I stop, and they just say..."yeah...I just use an electric/cartridge/disposable...I don't have time for all that crap.". End of conversation...

Ok, I'm officially asking! What happened?

Dear Lord, it was a long time ago. He and wifey decided to celebrate their 1st anniversary by heading up to Canada which Cory combined with a shaving run for green AV. The only real "trouble" they had was in crossing the border (to return) without proper documentation despite being told what to bring with them, which resulted in a semi-panic attack. Oh, and trying to purchase the AV at Canadian Walmart with US currency *duh*

But, from there it blew up into this whole saga of C *smuggling* several bottles of the AV back in, uh, a body cavity, along with several feet of ethernet cable, and God knows what-all-else and a tale of a very "thorough search" at the border. It became a B&B legend from there.

LOL...ok, so no actual AV smuggling going on, or any search and seizures at the border or anything, just stories elevated to legendary status...gotcha. I was trying to figure out why AV would be considered a controlled substance or something, lololol.

IIRC, the panic attack started when Cory tried to use his Wisconsin Drivers License as proof of citizenship despite having been told (pre-trip) that this was no longer acceptable I.D. and the border agent telling him, "Congratulations, you're legal to drive in Wisconsin. Now, what about your citizenship?"

And fwiw, wifey, who apparently understands international currency more than dear Cory, did tell him that you can't pay in Canada using US Dollars. :whistling:
