Default Gold Tech Clean Up/ Identify

Today at an antique mall, I found a Gillette gold tech with a ball end and a fluted/slotted handle. When was it made? I have never cleaned and polished a gold razor before. It looks pretty good, it has a large price sticker on the head that I need to remove, but the color looks good on most of the razor. How can I make it look as good as possible without removing any color or shine. I am afraid to just start Scrubbing Bubbles, toothbrush, Barbicide, Maas, the regular drill. Thanks for your help.

    Do you have a photo?

I never use a toothbrush or Maas on a gold razor. And don't boil it. Clean off any glue from the sticker with lighter fluid. A Tech should be pretty easy to clean with dish soap and a cloth and Q-Tips.

Good advice, Len. You can remove the laquer over the gold and then the gold, too, pretty quickly if you're not a little gentle with these gold razors.

You might even want to be careful with that lighter fluid as lit may break down the lacquer. I use Goo Gone on tape residue. It is much milder than lighter fluid and will still break down the adhesive.

    Thanks guys.

I'll try to post a photo tonight. Right now, I have to work. This has the potential of being a pretty nice razor, if I go about the clean up correctly. Hopefully, later, I can post before/after. Cost me $8, could not have gotten too bad a deal. And in the same box with it, a F 2 fatboy that will look really good, after a little clean up ($6). And, I left behind a slim that I was afraid would not clean up. ($5). The guy had 4 razors, one no name, and these 3.

Here are the promised pictures. The tech has had a soak in Guido's recommended Goo Gone and soap and water. When/what is it and, now what do I use to polish it? The Fatboy has had scrubbing bubbles and soap and water, no Maas yet. It is awesome.

I like to use Blitz Foamz Jewelry Cleaner on old razors, it really cleans them up nice. Target stores sell it for under $10
