  1. Default Finally! A successful lather!

I noted in an earlier post that I wasn't having any luck with my RSC shaving cream, and even experienced irritation without any blade touching my face, but I finally was able to make a good lather (for a beginner anyway) and I felt no irritation after.

I just have a few questions on the soap.

Its a Willams puck of soap. I fluked into sticking it in the mug i use. I was going to post on how I should do it, but some left over shave cream that was left in the mug from a previous shave did the trick without me even noticing that there was any in there.

Should I wash the soap after use? Or just dump the water and leave to dry.

Also, I currently use a M3. I also have a fusion and a Schick Quad. What does everyone suggest for the best razor burn free shave out of the three (I want to wait on a DE until I get my prep down)

    Thanks,

    - Danner

    That's good news! Congrats!

It depends how you want to do this. Personnaly, if I do some face lathering, I won't wash the bowl or cup where my soap lives. I will get rid of any water in the cup before I store it but that would be it. However, I mainly build my lather in a separate bowl, that one, I wash every time post-shave.

Thanks for getting back. When I tested the soap, I just built the lather on my face, do you find the lather is better when made in a seperate bowl as opposed to your face?

Really lather will be the same, just your personal preference if you rather have it on your face or in a bowl.

I use a separate bowl, and then work it into my beard every time I relather.

Dump the water, leave to dry.

Oh, and my choice will be m3. But also recognize that I do not believe I've tried the fusion. If the fusion feels better to you then by all means go with it!

Have you given any thought to just practising making lather in a separate bowl. Starting off as dry as you can... shake or squeeze out as much water from your brush as you can. Gently... don't damage your brush of course

I've never used williams... but I've heard it can be tricky to lather. I don't know if this works or not... or if the rumors are true.... again I've never used that soap. BUT... here is how I learned.

Swirl the brush around and around on the head of the puck until you start making a very thin small amount of dry cream almost. Just enough to cover the head (or a good portion at least... hey williams is cheap don't worry about wasting it for now while learning right?)... covering the head of the brush. transfer it into your lather bowl and start swirling again. Slowly add water... swirling for 10-20 seconds before adding more water... keep repeating this process, dipping the finger inbetween to feel how moist, slick, and cushioning your product is. Keep adding until your lather has a shiny coat or sheen to it. Don't be afraid to tip the scales and keep adding water. its also useful to find out what lather looks and feels like if you go past the "perfect" lather build up... when it starts getting runny and not very cushioning or slick. You want the lather to stick to the walls if you try to swipe the lather across the walls of your bowl. When you pull out the brush it should have a little whipped merange like dallop on the top. With the Peak able to hold its shape/weight without collapsing.

Short version? Watch Mantic59's video's on youtube... with emphasis on his Lathering Videos

What Adel said up here. It's a preference, that's it.
