    Default First attempt at honing

After reading all I could find and watching Bill Ellis and Lynn Abrams cd's, today I took a ebay Heckles 410 that I got for $6 and honed it up.
I started on a Norton 1000 water stone for the bevel. I then moved on to the pyramid method on a Norton 4000/8000 grit combination stone, followed by 100 laps on a lapped Chinese 12000 polishing stone.
After stropping I took a shower and gave it a try, it had just a little bit of pull but shaved ok. I have a handamerican bench hone ordered, I was going wait till it was here but I couldn't wait to try out the stones. All and all everything went well, next I think I will try my hand at repining
    Best Regards,
    Mike

If there is any pulling, go back to the 8000 for a bit.

    And congrats!

As long as you got the bevel set properly on the 1k, then you're golden. If that is the case, then small additional sessions with mini-pyramids should improve the shave further. Your goal should be a shave with no pulling, no discomfort, and no skin irritation. That fact that you got your $6 razor to shave at all means that you are well on your way to success!

Yep if the razor pulls any amount it's not shave ready. The chinese 12K is a very slow cutter so you many need more trips on that one. Your shave should be silky smooth.

Where did you order the bench hone from?
