Newbie with a Question

I am a newbie, just getting started. I don't have any equipment yet, but my dad said he had a couple of Rolls I could have (said he got rid of all the other stuff he had!) Does anyone out there know anything ab out using a Rolls and if it is good for learning?

If a Rolls isn't good as a first razor, can someone suggest a good starter?

I love the site and community!

The only "rolls" I know of, is the "Rolls Razor".

It was one of the first attempts at making a "safety razor", so it would not be suitable to learn on.

Here is a complete newbie kit to check out. It is a complete setup, with very nice products, for a very nice cost:

Gillette Superspeeds are one of the best razors to learn on (other choices being a Gillette Tech, and Merkur 34C/38C; among others, these are just the most popular). The Omega Boar brush is of top quality, and Proraso is one of the products that every new wet shaver just simply needs to try. Most of us recommend Derby Blades as a good starting point, but a sampler pack of blades is also a neccessity, as not all blades perform the same for everyone.

Blade sampler packs can be found here:

Welcome to B&B. I'm not familiar with a Rolls, but I'm sure that someone here will be able to answer your question. Everyone here is great. You came to the right place to start your journey. Welcome, and good luck.

Thanks for the link on the Rolls. That is definitely what my dad has for me. I remember my dad using it when I was little. When I head over to my parents this weekend, I'll see what it looks like and if it needs any work.

use the rolls!

it should still be in good condition. Nothing like using something thats been passed down to you

Welcome to B&B. The Rolls is a nice collectible and a number of folks use them. If it were me I would get a regular old DE to get started on:

* They are easier to get started with
* Blade selection is better
