Eight. One lives at the girlfriends for those rare occasions when I shave there. Plus one for travel. There are quite a few that have caught my eye (like the Rooney genuine horn). SBAD is in check and I am quite content with this line up.

Edwin Jagger Black Buffalo Horn, Silvertip (Bulb)
Geo. F Trumper Super Badger (Bulb)
Hans Baier Ebony Handled, Silvertip (Bulb)
R. A. Rooney
- Style 2, Small, Super Silvertip (Fan)
- Style 1, Medium, Best Badger (Fan)
Plisson Size 12, Briar Wood Handle, European Grey (Bulb)
Shavemac
- Black & Nickle Handle, Silvertip Badger (Bulb, 25mm)
- Blond Buffalo Horn, Silvertip Badger (Fan, 23mm)

2, an International Badger Pure (anyone ever heard of this?) and the C & E Best. Did have a Burma Shave once when that was all that was available but gave it to a new wetshaver. Inquired numerous times about the B & B Essential but never received a response on how to purchase/pay for it and if the second offering isn't as good; I will pass because I am not someone who is not "almost as good" either. I do plan to acquire Plisson, Rooney, Edwin Jagger (any relation to Mick?), Shavemac, Kent, Vulfix in our travels but not those produced under another label (at least not at present which may eliminate Simpson). Any others anyone would suggest? I think based upon experience that the soap/cream is more important than the brush but unless you are a brushless only; a brush does contribute.

There are 5 in my household:

Simpson Emperor 3 Super (my everyday brush)
Simpson Duke 2 Best (my travel brush
Restored gillette brush with a finest Penchetta knot
Mt Tamalpais cocobolo brush
Don McIvor cocobolo (my wife's leg duty brush)

R.I.P Col Conk travel brush

I'm at three and I really don't see myself getting any more. In fact I see myself getting rid of one brush. Heresy, I know.

In order of acquisition from most recent to least:

Rooney 1/1 Finest
Shavemac 44140 Silvertip
Tam Woodworks Silvertip
No Name Pure Badger sold by Col. Conk

The only thing I feel certain about in my shaving gear acquisition is that I will not buy another brush. To me that Rooney is the absolute pinnacle!

I have five and it is enough. I had acquired all of these within a year of starting wet shaving. Maybe within six months.

My two most used brushes are the cheapest and the most expensive: a $4 Burma Shave boar bristle and a long-handle Savile Row 3622 in finest silvertip.

I occasionally rotate to my two B&B / Edwin Jagger 2006 special editions, one an ebony handle in finest and the other the faux shell in silvertip.

I rarely use my first badger brush, a Vulfix 2233 in "super".

Being a noob I currently have just one brush, a Vulfix 2197 best badger, that I started my kit with. I am currently researching my next brush. It will be an upgrade but I'm not sure what to go with. I hope this isn't the start of SBAD.

Had three, just sold one......Shavemac is calling me.....

Vulfix, 2234...SOLD
Simpson, "Duke"
E.V. Restoration, 21 mm. golden nib silver tip

Shavemac ??????????????????????????????????

Only one- but I have 2 more on the way- maybe 3!

the current brush- an older version of what's now sold as the Van Der Hagen. Handle is identical except for color(a medium blue- saw one adv on Ebay last night. It still had the sticker on handle bottom, just like mine. Unlike mine, it was still readable! Said "Surrey"!. Mine's over 10 yrs old, maybe over 20 yrs old. Someone's been making this brush for a long time.)

The brushes on the way- one old, but lightly used, Made-Rite badger from evilbay. Love that black & lucite handle! Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-LUCITE-...0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A3|65:1|39:1|240:1318

The other: a new Omega boar w/stand, red handle.

the possible third? An old one that's *exactly* the model I had way back when- might have gotten it for HS graduation('71) or maybe a year or two before that. Yes! I got it! OK, make that 3 more on the way!:thumbup1:

Damn. Why did I have to follow this guy ^^^ :w00t:

Rooney 3/1
C&E BBB
B&B Essential
Agate SB from Penworks
Vulfix (forgot #)
Vintage EverReady fitted with Golden Nib knot

I am quite comfortable with the brushes I have, but I am currently looking into restoring a few more vintage brushes - more for the fun than the need to use them.

6 brushes:

B&B LE '08
Plisson HMW #14 w/faux ivory handle
Plisson HMW #8 w/horn handle
B&B Essential
Dan Capshaw Custom Silvertip w/Cocobolo wood handle
Ed Schisler Custom Silvertip w/Bloodwood handle

Presently just two VDH boar brushes. But I'm planning on a goal of ten.

Something in the order of the following:

one travel
two boar
seven badger

I only use soaps but if I do start using creams I may consider my cat as brush number eleven.

David

Only three so far,
  • C&E Pure (travel brush)
  • C&E BBB
  • B&B Essential 2nd edition
I'll grab a cheap boar brush sometime soon, most likely a VDH. After that the only thing I want is a really good super badger brush.
