ThinkTank is looking to get their bags in the wild and generate some feedback on their Retrospective line-up. You can keep it for two weeks then decide to hang onto it or return it with a detailed evaluation. I recently purchased a Retrospective 10 and enjoy using it. Of course no bag is perfect, there are a few features I would change but overall it's been excellent. There is a sign-up window and a limited quantity available.

I see something that looks spectacular in the scenery ... clouds, sunlight, hillside ... the whole shee-bang. So I pull over, take out my camera, and take a photo.

... upon development, the photo looks like ... meh. It's a hillside on a sunny/cloudy day. Boooo--rrrring.

It's the polarised sunglasses that I was wearing that really made the scene "pop" for me. Sooooo ... how can I get the same image ... after polarisation, as it were ... on my film?

Photos are terrible, due to many factors, but hey, gotta start somewhere. I've only scanned a few. Most of the other ones I haven't scanned are just different settings for the same shot or out of focus.

I don't have a ton of money so I'm looking at a used model.

My question is, should I go with a newer model like the D3100 or an older model in the lineup that is more advanced like a D90?
I have a line on both models and they are being offered at around the same price.

I've done my research and the D3100 might be the better choice because it's newer and uses the latest technology.

Any opinions?
I'm only looking at the camera for taking photographs. Video is of no interest to me.

I have been taking photos for more than 20 years, but never done a portrait (haven't been much of a people person, but trying to change that a bit :001_smile)
I would now like to give it a go and would like to hear if any of you have some hints, tips or tricks that might come in handy.

I have been studying the subject a bit, and have finally put together my "portrait kit"

This is my kit:
Lenses which range from 24-500 mm - I'll probably use my 50mm macro or 24-70mm zoom.
Two neutral coloured fabric backdrops (medium grey and medium blue). I can set the backdrop up so I get daylight either frontal or from the side.
A small flash light that can be set off remotely.
Three work lights (like these A, B) with either 400W halogen lamps or 20W energy saving lamps (which I prefer because they stay cold).
I have a mirror 43x56 cm (17x22"), a silver sheet and a golden sheet 42x60 cm (16½x23½") I can use to reflect the light.

Technically I think I'm all set to go live.
My plan is to stick up a folder at work advertising for models and hope a couple of people will respond - we are a little more than 200 people at my work so it should be possible.

Anything missing? Any traps I should avoid? I run Linux on my computers, not Windows, so Windows tools would not be helpful to me (unless they also are available
for Linux as well).

I have been hesitant to post any pictures since I don't know how to check for this metadata and how to remove it.
