I love being a father. I currently have 1 newborn son and he is simply amazing. I never understood the whole "Hey, look at my kids!" father's with the 10 mile fold out picture wallet. Welp, I don't have the wallet but I have a ton of digital photos/videos and I get it now.

So if you are extraordinarily proud of your kids and want other people to know, post your pics/vids/stories. Anything you feel like in regards to your family.

I'll kick it off with my son Gavin. Here are a couple of my favorites.

My wife and I seem to have spent way too much time watching The Voice and to a lesser extent American Idol. (Always DVRed, with lots of fast forwarding though!)

I guess I would say that with all the hype and general feel good nonsense, and pretend competition and crappy "coaching," I am not usually all that impressed with the winners or with many of the contestants. And I have no idea of whether I am a good judge of these things, even all the hype were not there.

However, I would say IMHO after watching lots of "contestants" that "The Voice" winner from last night, 16 year old Danielle Bradbery, has the best and purest country voice in a generation. Perhaps in two generations. There are lots of talented singers out there and there is lots of hype around this one. But I really do think this is an extraordinary thing.

The country music establishment may screw it all up, of course. And in a few years we may be reading about bad romances, risque selfies, and alcohol and drug abuse. I hope not. But this may well be the often hyped birth of a legit super star.

(I actually thought Candice Glover, the AI winner this year, was pretty amazing, too. Not this amazing, though.)

DeWalt, Hitachi, and Kobalt are the three brands that are in my price range ($250 max).
DeWalt DW713
Hitachi C10FCE2
Hitachi C10FCH2
Kobalt 10" sliding Miter saw
All of these seem to get good reviews. I just wondering if anyone on the boards had any experience with any of these.

when it came time to move for the umpteenth time i gave up.
i sold a few, and gave away the rest.

now i rarely pick up a paper book.

ive been an ebook reader fan since 2001 when i bought a franklin ebookman that could read a massive mmc card of 25mb. lol
after going thru several of those(not durable, but cheap) and struggling to find ebooks(while still buying tons of paperbacks) i discovered the ipod touch.
small and convenient barely made up for the 13 different apps needed to read different formats of documents. the small screen didnt help much either.

i now own a kindle fire. i only buy a few books now as amazon has sooooo many for free.

who else has given up the paper?

This question that I bring to you will in all probability leave me sounding like a, well, clueless teen. Alright, good, since it appears that in this case I am one.

As I am preparing to head off to Uni in the fall I am starting to compile a list off stuff to pick up before then as to ensure that I am too ill prepared, atleast in the material aspect. Whilst I will have my orientation in a few days and be able to further define my question, I figured I'd ask it now as a way of seeing how many 'fish'(You'd rather be called fish than snakes or donkeys right? :001_tt2: ) bite.

Also with suggestions, if you could provide a quantity where applicable that'd be extraordinarily helpful!

Bedding:
The beds they provide are Twin XL. Obviously I don't need Silk sheets, but I need to pick up some decent ones, so what is recommended. Obviously cost is a factor here! Also I'd rather get a couple flat sheets than a flat and a fitted, so where would I be best apt to pick em up? I for the love of (something) cannot do fitted sheets, I can never get them on and if I do they come off, and I sure as (...heck...) am not asking the other bloke for help! lol.

Any recommendations outer layers? Again nothing fancy, 'plain-Jane' is okay with me! Even milsurp doesn't bother me, although if it has pink-bunnys or camo, someone's head is gonna roll!

What about pads for the bed... not the incontinent ones!... but those 'egg-crate' things? I have heard both mandatory and impermissible due to a fire risk or something like that.

Any personal incite that could prove helpful?

Storage:
Here is definite one of those categories where I would know until I actually find out my building assignment (hoping for the newest building :D ) because they vary a bit...

For storage I know they provide the basics, and I mean four walls if you're lucky lol. But for additional storage would I be well off with a foot-locker type setup? Obviously they're not gonna make you fall out at 0445 for PT, but in the sense of something that I can both provide a place to store your stuff and something that can lock. I don't really have a helluva lot of stuff, a few pairs of serviceable trousers, enough shirts and undergarments for a little over a week, in addition to a few other things (No I don't stretch that out for a fortnight! The only thing that gets worn twice are trousers...)

I don't anticipate having an issue with too many clothes, however for me I'd definitely like something that I can lock up. Not to see cynical but living with someone who you don't know from 'adam' is a situation where it'd behove oneself to keep valuables under key atleast for a little while to ensure you're not living with a kleptomaniac...

This is they're newest dorm for an idea: http://housing.uri.edu/info/hillside-residence-tour.phpBath Stuff:
Whilst I don't intend to ask on what soaps work best, my question for thee would be as to what kind of towels, thongs, etc

I have heard thongs are a must due to the fact the showers are communal (yum...) but how many towels and the like should I bring, bearing in mind that I won't have a giant wardrobe to keep everything in, and how about stuff like bath bags (not luffas!) and that kind of stuff?

Any advice about communal situation; I have heard this strange story about the uniform of the morning being a semi-clothed streak to-and-from the washroom...

MISC. Stuff

Other MISC. stuff?

Obviously food and stuff will be handled on an as-needed basis. Seasonal kit will also be done in that manner, considering that I will be living relatively close to home (an hour or so).

I mean I know various OTC meds and what not will be packed, but anything else that one would not think of? Obviously some of the shared kit like an iron and such will be dealt with when I find out who the poor sod--I mean the lucky devil--that is to become my roommate is...

Lastly, what should I budget for these assorted expenses?

I am not really looking to outfit a room to the brim with 'extras' since if things go to plan I will be living in what will equate to a barracks type set-up after my first year, completely communal (Live-in programme with the Fire Brigade...) After all I am leaving behind a life of extras that I have amassed over the last 18 years...

I am hoping that it will be an okay year; I am confident in myself but the idea of living in close proximity to someone else for an entire year kinda frightens me... Not so much that I have to live with someone, but rather that I will end up with a weirdo! I will leave you with an image--or rather a video-- to illustrate my point: T-Bone's Wabbit [Colors 1988] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldMiOhNFh7U (NSFW)

Cheers!

It has been a torrid couple of weeks Down Under.

Last year our female Prime Minister had a famous spray in Parliament shown here following demeaning sexist comments from the former Speaker of the House which got world wide airplay and became the cause célèbre of the feminist movement. More recently she attempted to revive the 'gender wars' in a speech to a woman's group a couple of weeks ago in what has been generally described as a poor and backfiring political stunt.

Against this background we have had another sex scandal involving defence force personnel, see reporting here, and then yesterday we had football players out of control and being charged with indecent assault, see here. All part of a long pattern of behaviour.

Seriously, when will blokes learn?

Is this a by-product of our over-sexualised and increasingly porno-fied culture?

I'm as red-blooded male as anybody but part of being a man, and I know the gentlemen here will get it, is actually being a man not a little boy. It shouldn't be a feminist plot to treat women well surely?

I think that the outstanding response from our Chief of Army shown here should be compulsory viewing for ALL men.

[/RANT]

Thanks for listening guys

Lucky was his name. A chocolate lab... we're guessing about 14 years old, having had him the last 11 years or so. Big (112 pounds at one point), friendly, and other than a sworn oath against any squirrel that made the mistake of getting too close, not a mean bone or unruly bark in him.

The last year or so, he slowed way down, quit chasing the squirrels, got a little crotchety defending his food bowl against the two puppies that invaded his kitchen. He was walking pretty poorly the last month or so, and he even had to survive the embarrassment of having to be picked up and out of the pool. His days of short runs or slow walks were long past. Just getting up or walking out to the back yard was getting to be a struggle.

The last car ride to the vet was quiet, sad. They had troubles finding a vein, but he was patient as he always was with kids... as if he had accepted what was happening. It seemed to take forever, then it happened all in a minute, as he slumped over and took in one last breath.

I lost a good friend today. Hopefully there are lots of squirrels in heaven.

This is at least the fourth excavation in recent years, obviously the prior attempts went for naught - but in the process destroyed a big horse barn that was rebuilt at taxpayer expense to the tune of $225,000.

How long should it go? He was reputed to be in the concrete under the Meadowlands, a cellar in Cincinnati, here and there around Detroit .. or has the FBI solved all the recent crimes?

That being said I am leaning towards the X1 despite the negative press but I am considering the PS4. I'm always online so that is not an issue and although I don't like the new policy on game sharing it's not something i do often. Plus EA looks like they are going to charge everyone including Ps4 users a fee when buying used games. Other developers may follow suit.
The x1 exclusive titles look better than ps4 but the ps4 is more powerful. Ultimately I think the new kinect, smartglass and cloud processing are going to appeal to developers to come up with some amazing games in the future. Yes the Ps4 can use cloud as well but it wont be available to offline customers so developers will probably avoid using it as much. Ive always liked xbox live and microsoft has treated me better than sony has treated some of my playstation friends.
