Ok, before everyone starts saying "Oh no! Another Veg thread!" I want to say right up front that this isn't a typical I love it / I hate it Veg thread.
So save your effervescent praise or bashing for any of the other threads.

I like to solicit the opinions of the frag heads out there. I'd like to solicit the chemical engineers. I'm seeking input from dieticians and anyone else who can help shed some light on this mysterious concoction we here at B&B either love or hate called Pinaud Lilac Vegetal.

I mentioned in another thread that I believed there to be some chemistry thing going on with why some people seem to love the Veg and some seem to be horrified by it.

There may be many different avenues at play here;
1. There may be the power of suggestion - some people hear that it smells like cat urine so much, that when they smell it - boom. Cat Urine.
2. There may be a body chemistry thing going on based on diet, or internal processes which reacts favorably with the Veg to make it smell good on some people.
3. There may be a body chemistry thing going on based on diet, or internal processes which reacts un-favorably with the Veg to make it smell bad on some people.
4. There may be an olfactory cell thing going on which regardless of who wears it, makes it smell bad to people who have a certain scent "marker".
5. There may be an olfactory cell thing going on which regardless of who wears it, makes it smell good to people who have a certain scent "marker".
6. There may be a reaction with the plastic bottle that it is stored in, and if it has set unused for a very long time, some people may get a "skunky" bottle.
7. It may be a little of all of the above, or something else entirely.

If you look up the "asparagus" phenomenon - you'll find that about 50 percent of the population produce a given enzyme when they eat asparagus, which produces a distinct odor in urine.
Remarkably, about 50 percent of the population can detect the odor of this enzyme, and 50 percent cannot.

So, at least with asparagus, only about half produce the scent marker, and only about half can smell it (the halves may overlap).

What do you honestly think is going on with the Veg? It's obviously appealing to enough people to have allowed it to be in continuous production longer than almost any single Aftershave product in human history!

Let's get some real thoughts out here on this - can we decipher the enigma which is the Veg?

Once again - this isn't a praise or bash thread, please do that in any of the other threads on the subject. I'd really like to get some thoughtful opinions on this.

Truefitt and Hill, L'Occitane, AOS, and they smell great and have nice texture and all that but I have to say Neutrogena and Nivea seem to knock the edge off razor burn and sooth the skin so much better from my findings. (One exception would be Baxters of California, that stuff rocks.)

Anyone else notice that? Am I expecting too much of the luxury brands? Are they being stupendous behind the scenes and I don't know it because I'm a rookie?

Anyway, just thinking out loud
Boots will not sell it outside Europe, Canary Is or select military posts. It's the only aftershave balm for me and I'm desperately low in stock.
Many thanks

Hello Gents!

I have been monitoring these hallowed halls of after shave and I have an idea. Starting next month I will be starting a new weekly (hopefully) feature called Aftershave Spotlight. This isn't the typical product of the week thread. The idea isn't to have everyone use the product for a week (encouraged, but not necessary). The idea is to pick one product, and post as much info as we can about it. This can be anything from product history, pictures of vintage ads, pictures of your collection of vintage/current stock, your reviews, personal stories/memories relating to the scent, etc. The idea is to create a thread about the product that can be used as a reference later, and info from the thread can be used to help beef up the wiki.

Any comments or suggestions you have on the Aftershave Spotlight are welcome. Give me some ideas to help flesh it out before I actually start it.

Also

I am your Forum Steward, as such I am here to help make this forum a better place. To do that I try to be as involved as I can with all the threads, and spend more time in this forum than any other. I am soliciting your ideas now. What can I do to help make this forum better?

Hello all you lovers of Pinaud Clubman. This is for those who want the "full" Clubman experience. If you don't already know, Clubman makes several other products that are also scented with that classic Clubman scent. And Avon Wild Country, is a scent clone of Clubman.

Hello all you lovers of Pinaud Clubman. This is for those who want the "full" Clubman experience. If you don't already know, Clubman makes several other products that are also scented with that classic Clubman scent. And Avon Wild Country, is a scent clone of Clubman. So by utilizing both Clubman products and Avon products, you can literally have all of your personal products, scented like Clubman.

It all starts in the shower with Clubman Country Club Shampoo and Avon Wild Country Body Wash. My showers smell great!

As I'm letting my soap and brush soak, I apply Clubman Hair Tonic followed by Clubman Styling Gel. Then I use Avon Wild Country Roll-on deodorant.

On to the shave. By melting a puck of VDH and adding in a teaspoon of Clubman After Shave, you can make your own custom Van der Clubman shave soap.

Use Clubman After Shave or Wild Country After Shave. And if you prefer a balm, use Avon Wild Country After Shave Conditioner.

Finish off with a little bit of Clubman Talc for the face or body, and you're all set!

And just in case case you don't feel like you are wearing enough of the clubman scent, Avon also makes a Wild Country Cologne Spray. I forgot to dig mine out for the picture.

When I use Pinaud VIBR the next day my skin seems to be a little dry. I originally thought it may be the Arko soap I was using. So I stayed away from Arko for a while. And was using other soaps/creams but when I applied some Pinaud VIBR my skin would be dry. I didn't shave yesterday and read a post about mixing VIBR with Lime AS. Did that last night to try it out and my skin this morning is a little flaky in spots? Nothing really bad where it is so dry that it is itchy though.

This kind of bums me out a little as Pinaud VIBR is one of my favorites.
