While I generally take a dim view of outlandish marketing tactics, such as calling a cigar the "Punisher", I do enjoy Nicarugaun ligeros. The Punisher came in a CI full-bodied sampler. My son and I tried one and did not like the amount of spice on the wrapper, it tasted like it was dipped in Tabasco sauce, and let the cigars burn out in favor of a Diesel Unholy Cocktail (there's that crazy name thing again:biggrin1:).

I read some reviews of the Punisher and they all said that once you get past the first inch, the cigar becomes enjoyable. So I tried another one yesterday, and the reviewers were right. If you like full-bodied ligero cigars, try the Punisher. While I do not intend to make it my daily smoke, I plan to keep some on hand for special occasions.

First I would like to say hello. New to this forum(joined because I got into wet shaving with straights, so far) and was pleased to stumble upon the Brown Leaf. New to pipe smoking also. Kinda started both around the same time. Seem to go hand in hand. So in my quest to elevate my pipe smoking experience and purchase a handmade pipe I find JM Boswell Pipes. As many of you may know, when his pipes hit the site for sale on Thursdays, they're usually all sold within 2-4 hours. I now know why. While the curse of living in the " People's Republic of Maryland "(love the state, hate the politics), it has become a blessing to have Boswells in such a close proximity. With a 75 mile drive, 69 of it major Interstate, 1hour & 3 min later, my cousin and I arrive in pipe smokers heaven! You are greeted by JM & his son Dan as you walk in the door. You feel comfortable and right at home. You are encouraged right away to fill a bowl with whatever you want, sit down and make yourself at home. Before you purchase a thing! Well I was there to purchase and purchase I did. Very cool, large rusticated poker handmade by JM. JM peeled the price tag off it and said " fill it up " before I even paid for it! We talked pipes and pipe making, politics and tobacco. Then he took us upstairs to the other smoking lounge. Yes there are two. Big Leather sofas and chairs. Heavy wood cocktail and end tables. Pedestal ashtrays, matches, cigar cutters, pipe tools & rests, books, literature, all within arms reach from wherever your sitting! Just sit back, relax and enjoy. Natural light pouring in through the windows. Great decor everywhere. Even the bathroom you wanna chill and have a smoke in, which I suspect is probably ok to do. Strangers became friends. You are in the moment there and thinking about nothing else. So after about 2.5 hours, my cousin and I decide to grab a bite local before we head home. We grab a few oz of choice JM blends. Which is tough to do, kinda like trying to pick your favorite child. Free oz of your choice with purchase of a pipe, plus Dan threw in a bundle of pipe cleaners and Czech pipe tool, gratis. Asked about a good local spot to eat, no chains. He recommended. We paid our tab and on our way out the door we were invited to come back in and have another smoke before we rolled home. Really??? I doesn't get much more hospitable than that. So we walked to the restaurant. Ate, talked about our experience up to this point, when we were coming back and how soon. We walked back to the truck with every intention to head home and not overstay our welcome. But as we opened the doors we looked at each other, gave a smile, grabbed our pipes, locked up the truck and headed back in. We're greeted with glad you came back, fill em' up, have a seat and relax. Made some new friends, asked some regulars if our experience was unique or just an anomaly? We were told NO, that its pretty much how it goes here and when you come back they'll most likely remember you and treat you the same way. Then before we knew it it was " alright gentleman, its closing time, sorry ". Sorry? Really???What I'm trying to get at is this. BWI airport is 105 miles away. Southwest Air hub. Cheap flights. There is a Travelodge hotel across the street. For you civil war buffs, Gettysburg is 25 miles away. If you wanna see tyranny in action, The District of Criminals(sorry cant help myself sometimes) is a 2 hour drive south. But Boswells is the main attraction for sure. Check out his site. If you wanna plan a trip, pm me and I can help with logistics. When traveling in & out of Bmore or DC, timing is everything. Would look forward to meeting anyone wanting to make the trip. Thanks for reading. Yours in Liberty, TTwinz

So, now that I'm in over my head, I'm starting to realize that I need to consider keeping certain tobaccos out of certain pipes.. or dedicating a specific pipe to a specific tobacco or type of tobacco. I've kinda just smoked everything in all my pipes, and want to get more organized about it. I gather that keeping aros to one pipe and latakia blends to another is a bare minimum to keep ghosting from messing up a more subtle blend. Maybe this is a dumb question, but are there certain types of tobaccos that smoke better in certain styles of pipes? ..I'm just curious how far some of you are taking this, or how laid back some of you are about it. Please share your thinking about how you choose what pipe to smoke a certain tobacco in, or maybe lists of blends that share the same pipe, or blends that should never share the same pipe.. I realize that's pretty wide open, but I could use some clarity on this topic as I try to sort it out.

Out on the back deck, listening to the ballgame, pipe loaded with some Peterson's Perfect Plug, just about to light up but then the neighbour's back window swings open. Moment ruined. Set pipe down and get the laptop out to type this up. When I moved in to the neighbourhood last summer, I quickly discovered that this particular neighbour doesn't like the smell of tobacco smoke. Whenever I'd have a cigarette in the backyard, their window would immediately close. A couple times it closed with audible force, perhaps to send me a message? Hey, I get it, I agree, cigarette smoke is poison and were I not a smoker I certainly wouldn't want it wafting into my house. I thought maybe pipe smoke would be an improvement but no such luck (unfortunately aromatics are not an option for me), windows close all the same.

It's kind of an uppity area. You know the kind: young professionals, tofu eaters, lawn watchers, etc. To give you some idea of how close together the houses are in this neighbourhood, I can tell you with some certainty what my neighbours watch on tv on what days of the week and also who might be coming down with a cold... AAAACHEW! I don't have a relationship with these people but I'd prefer not feeling like a hypocrite when I smile and say hi to them when our paths cross outside, which is to say, telling them to eff off if they don't like my smoke is not an option. I've beeen smoking in the garage over the winter but now that the weather is more conducive to outside piping I'd really like to take advantage of it. I'm not asking for your opinions to act on them, as I have resigned myself to smoking in the garage when the windows are open. I'm just curious to hear how you feel about the issue in general and how you might (or already do) handle similar situations. Here's what I'm missing at the moment:
Can't smoke in the house (wife thinks pipe smoke just smells like smoke; she doesn't smell all the aromas most people with good working noses would smell). Can't go to cigar lounges because, one, I'm not really a social person, and, two, I would need to shop where I smoke and I already have most everything I need. The closest lounge that just requires a membership is almost an hour away, so not worth it. So, a 3-4 month smoking break for me now.

I'll keep checking on other possible lounges in the area, but I'm not too optimistic.

Gonna pick up another Cob for the frog that way I can test it out before I buy a nice poker or dublin style. Should I just use cobs for fun blends and rge good pipe for my fav? I've been keeping my tobacco and cigars in mason jars, ziploc bags and tupperdors and I'm thinking on put together a couple of humidors (one for cigars and another for pipe tobacco) and I step with this humidifier called "Cigar Oasis Electronic Humidifier".
Any of you tried? Anyone read some impartial review?
Cheers!

A friend of mine recently joined a wine club. With it came 15 bottles of wine. I was at her house the other day and took one, "you got 15 bottles of wine for 60 bucks!?...Well I'm taking one".

I told you that to tell you this....

So I'm sitting here chugging the bottle :a54:(ha! slowly sipping) and was thinking "maybe I should join a wine club?" but then I thought "nahh I don't enjoy wine nearly as much as I enjoy cigars"

So to google I went. Seems to be quite a few cigar clubs out there. I'm curious if any of us here are members of any such clubs?

What are the good ones?

In your experience what are the pros and cons of joining a cigar club?

I found this one which looks like a good deal. $30 per month for 5 cigars.

I'm seeking the pros advice here :thumbup1:
