**EDIT** Perhaps Kimo is still alive!?!?**

UPDATE SEE POST 17!

Kimo Leopoldo (http://www.cagewarriors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40179) has apparently passed on from complications of a heart attack.

More links here (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=kimo+leopoldo+heart+attack&aq=f&oq=&aqi=) and here (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Kimo-Leopoldo-43).

I know we have some MMA fans here so I thought I'd share this sad news. He lived a troubled life and despite his own shortcomings he tried in every way to share God's word.

For those who don't recognize the name Kimo fought a who's who of MMA and was a veteran of the early UFC events:

Royce Gracie
Ken Shamrock
Tank Abbott
Tim Lajick
Wes Sims
Dan Severn
Brian Johnston
Bam Bam Bigalow (no joke)
Kazushi Sakuraba
Paul Varelens
Pat Smith

Heart attack at 41?
Was he known for steroid use? Just seems so unlikely that it was natural.

Kimo nearly beat Royce Gracie in UFC 3, if it hadn't been for Gracie hanging on Kimo's hair (which is now illegal) Kimo would have won. Even though Gracie won the bout, he was so exhausted he was forced to pull out from the tournament.

I remember that. Classic fight. The ponytail was his downfall.

Nope, I believe I saw somewhere that methamphetamine is/was his drug of choice.

The Daily News, perhaps not a paragon of journalistic accuracy, says he was a steroid user. Regardless, very sad. Forty-one is way too young.

It's because of that I've always hated Royce Gracie. The fact that he had to pull hair like a girl to win a sporting competition.

I don't like Royce either, but I hate most of the Gracie clan.

Ah, the Gracies do have their bad points. Their arrogance is probably only equaled by their contributions to contemporary martial arts. But those are some serious contributions. And a lot of their talk is just hype--they are businessmen as much as they are jiujitsuro and they know what sells. On the other hand, everybody who I know who trains in Gracie jiu jitsu has nothing but good things to say about them.

He had a cocaine habit that allegedly he had kicked. He was only recently busted for testing positive for Stanazol (a banned steroid).

So either way illicit drugs+steroids= bad.

It could have been many things.

Looks like he has made some bad choices as of late. People must be caught up in some sort of frenzy with all the famous people dying before their time recently.

+1 Gotta fight to win.

Now, if he had some weird, blinding powdery stuff like Bolo in Bloodsport, then I would hate him.

In fact, didn't Bruce Lee yank out a chunk of Chuck Norris' chest carpet in Return of the Dragon? If you leave it hanging out there, you're just asking to have it pulled.

I had a good post about pulling the hair of the other varity and the fact that hitting below the belt was allowed in the early UFC's, but It wasn't very gentlemanly so I deleted it.:lol:

Their arrogance is only a part of it. I hate the fact that they all tend to hold submissions way longer than necessary. An opponent will tap and the ref will end the fight and they will hold on a while longer. Very unnecessary.

Yeah, I remember the only rules were no Wing Tsun and no eye-gouging. That round-robin business must have been rough.

I agree, round-robin MMA, not for the out of shape. Can you imagine boxing doing a round robin tournament?

I don't know of any promotions that still do round robins, but tournaments are still popular outside the UFC. More than 1 MMA fight in a night is just torture. You have to be in insane shape as well as take very little damage in your early fights or you're in for it.

They wouldn't allow Wing stylists to enter the tournaments. Eye-gouging is popular in that style; I guess that's why.

Round-robin boxing would be insane. If the fights were 1, maybe 2 rounds, it wouldn't be so bad. You would have to be in insane condition for MMA today.

That would have been insane. That's why the varying states that allow MMA won't allow that style of tournament anymore.
