View Full Version : Soap/Cream residue on blade

On both sides of my Dovo towards the edge i have a thick line of residue that's built up due to soaps and creams. I think this is mainly due to how dry of a lather i was still making when I first switched over to a straight, but then quickly started sacrificing good looking lather for something a lot slicker. I thoroughly rinse my blade with scalding hot water after every shave, wipe the blade without touching the edge, then lightly strop on my hand towel.

How do I clean off the residue without touching the blade? I want my razor shiny and new again!

Without touching the blade? Not sure what you mean.

I would just take some MAAS and a cloth and polish it right off.

I meant the edge. I don't have any MAAS, would any household product do the trick?

The very edge? Thats probably residue from your strop. Remove it with a soft cotton garment. An undershirt perhaps.

I think he means right before the edge on the blade, just take a piece of toilet paper and wipe it off, just make sure you're moving slightly from spine to edge and the edge wont be harmed.

If you are referring to the soap scum when I finish shaving I gets tons of scum on my blades due to hard water and it won't rinse off, what I found works is just give it a little shot after shaving each time of scrubbing bubbles let it soak on for about 15-30 seconds and rinse under hot water, I have been doing it for a while and it hasn't harmed any of them nor any of the fancy gold on some of them.

it could be blood on the edge. if theres a little blood on the blade and hot water is run over it it can 'set' on the edge which would probably discolour it a bit

This! Thanks, I've been meaning to pick up scrubbing bubbles for a little while anyway so that I could sell my progress to fund SRAD.

Pay attention to wiping your blade off after shaving. Otherwise there will be a line of soap scum on both sides. You can wipe it off without touching the edge if you are careful.

I have the same thing happen. I put rubbing alcohol in a little stray bottle that I spray the blade and carefully use a q-tip to wipe the line of scum off. That works for me and I don't touch the edge.

Do not EVER leave any residue on your blade as it will tarnish very quickly. Buy some rubbing alcohol also known as Surgical spirit in the UK. Then put it in a cheap spray bottle ( Boots sell these for 50p) and spray your blade after shaving. Wipe of the alcohol after a few seconds with a sheet of toilet paper. I then give my blade a wipe with a cloth what i got free with my watch. By doing this your blade will not only be super clean it will also be sanitised.

I had this problem as well and I find that cleaning the blade with rubbing alcohol and then coating it in some japanese camellia oil make a world of difference. Now all the lather just rinsing super clean with no effort at all. I then wipe and strop my razor after my shave.
