Gentlemen,
Some shaving soaps, though of the highest quality, set my Hollywood face on fire. I call them volcano soaps. Perhaps you have come across this problem as well.
Musgo Real and Gold Dachs give me a — gave me — an excellent shave, but they set my face on fire. Finally I surrendered and stopped using them. No other shave soap or cream I have used has the same effect on my face.
Perhaps a chemist out there in the shaving world can give a good explanation for this.

Knock on that proverbial wood, I have never come across these soaps. I know many have though. Best of luck to you.

Well, Musgo Real doesn't make a shaving soap. If you were using that lime oil soap, it's a pre-shave. That may be why your face erupted with lava.

I clicked on this thread thinking "Hey, a new brand of soaps!"
Check to see if there's a common thread between the two products. You might have a reaction to an ingredient.

Gentlemen,
You are correct about Musgo Real not making soap. I should also correct myself: I meant the shave cream in the tube. My mistake. Either way, I don't intent to go near the stuff.
Of course, Gold Dachs does make soap.
Thanks for your thoughts.

I experienced this volcano effect using Fantasia Shaving Soap.
Figured that I just reacted to some ingredient but don't have the list of ingredients, so I just don't use it.

I wouldn't recommend using Musgo pre-shave as a shaving soap. It doesn't lather well. Great as pre-shave!

Some of the QED soaps have really lit my face up - they're all natural products, but too much EO can be a problem - especially if its a "hot" one like bay rum.

I was thinking the same thing!
I've yet to have soap burn my face. A/s on the other hand...
