Got 2 miles this evening. I'm in week 3 of a 5 day a week running program and MAN this stuff is a whole lot harder than it was 5 years ago (even at half speed). I'm pretty locked on that it will get easier as I begin to get unfat, get my legs under me and get into some kind of shape (other than round). Stevie Ray and Jim Morrison kept me company so the tunes were killer and I did get through another workout. Unfortunately, the warm up for the morning shave tomorrow morning is another run. I'm gonna have a shower beer and think about it

Good for you. I too recently decided to get into fighting shape and the last 2 and a half weeks I've been running every other day and trying to do some kind of cross training on my off days. Today was tennis. Good tunes are a great way to make the time running more enjoyable.

1OldGI,

I admire you for running. I wish I had the will power. I have come to find out that for me, running is evil, wicked, and straight from Hades. I have been in plenty enough horse accidents that my knees don't respond to running like they did 20 years ago.

Keep it up!

Stevie Ray and Jim Morrison kept me company so the tunes were killer . . .

An unfortunate choice of words, notwithstanding the excellent taste you demonstrate in selecting workout tunes.

Congratulations on the defattening, and keep up the good work! I keep meaning to start a program for myself, but it is so hard to motivate off the couch after 10 hours of hell at the office.

Keep it up 1OldGI! If it gets too tough, switch to walking and build up to it. I'm a jogger, and I sometimes have to slow things down and walk a few days when my sciatica flares up.

Running is the fastest most efficient way to drop weight, fat and to get fit. Keep it up but stay within the limits of what your body tells you and remember that recovery is a part of gaining fitness.

I hear you. I started and stopped quite a few times. This time I decided to set a concrete goal for myself: run a charity 5K this coming september that I have walked the last few years. It's a goal that is certainly attainable, but is definitely pushing me to get off the couch. This (http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/5k.html) is the training schedule I'm using. It's designed for people who are coming from no exercise, and the best part is that the time commitment is pretty minimal.

Another suggestion: if you're working out at a gym go there directly on your way home. Don't give your butt a chance to hit that couch until after you've worked out.

Good for you! Keep us posted on your progress.

Getting/staying in shape becomes more and more difficult as you age, but it can be done.

Thumbs up, fellow ex-soldier

Please listen to your body, though. As another former combat vet with jumper's knees, things don't recover as fast as they did, before I got to the age of (mumble mumble).

I had to learn the hard way not to think I could still "push through it" and it set me back a whole bunch for a while when my body went :a6: now we need to take it easy for a while.

Big time congrats on staying with it.

This sounds awesome!!! Can I have one:001_tt2:

Anyway, I just started running again too. I don't get to ride my bike as much as I'd like, so running's the only thing at the momment keeping me from being obese (man, I love cheeseburgers).

Good luck to you. I hope you achieve your goals.

Getting unfat is difficult to do, but you've done the hardest part in getting started. I'm sure you'll have success if you stay motivated.

After years of a very inactive lifestyle I've started exercising regularly this year. It's in the form of Taekwondo. It's only twice a week, but coupled w/ dieting I've lost 23 lbs this year. I've been on a plateau for a couple of weeks, but I'm not putting any back on either, so that is good.

Keep up the good work and stay positive. The results are worth the effort.

Shower beer... must be some micro brew I haven't heard of yet.

I tease my friend. He's Mr. Micro and drinks anything with an obscure label on it. I swear I could print up a label that says "Old Goat Piss" and he would drink it in order to be hipper than thou.

I hate running, so I cheer you for that! But I L O V E shower beers, so I double cheer you there! Something excellent about a hot shower with a cold beer.
