Ok im planning to open a barber shop named Pomade & Tonic(barber shop and gentleman's grooming supplies).

Here is where you come in.

1) What is your favorite pomade or tonic for my research. Please list your favorite Pomade and favorite hair tonic only.

2) Any obscure pomades you are looking for but cant find.

3) Any Pomades that you have found that have unique packaging or name?

Im also going to carry shave creams, brushes, and other grooming supplies but ill do that in another thread this ones for pomades & tonic's.

im a fan of sweet georgia brown pomade and royal crown hair dressing myself. high life pomade is good stuff as well. lucky 13s pomade is alright but its just a lighter version of murrays and its over priced in my opinion. as for the interesting name this always comes to mind.

I'm not a fan of boutique pomades. In my experience I found that you're paying ten bucks for a clever name and stylish tin when it's nothing more than a Dax/Murrays clone. But, younger people emulating the Punkabilly look gravitate towards these things, so you'll probably have to stock at least a few of them.

Stocking the classics is de rigueur in a good barber supply store. Make sure you have ample supplies of Dax, Murray's, Royal Crown, Stephans, Blue Wave, 360 Style and any of the other ancient brands that have been around since the thirties.

As for tonics, you can't go wrong with anything by AII (Clubman, Jeri's, Pinaud Eau De Portugal and Quinine, Tres Flores Brilliantine, etc.) Lucky Tiger makes a nice range as does Stephan.

But the most important thing- no self respecting Pomade supply chain is going to be caught dead without the limited edition Obama Inauguration commemorative Pomade tin:

Before anyone busts my balls over that; yes, it's a real product and yes, it was made by Murray's, and yes, I prefer Dax.

I cast my vote for Groom & Clean.
Old-School but not "hip" in the least.

That's a great name for your shop.
As far as tonics go I haven't had much experience but I love the old school Jeris.

I've been using a few water-soluble hair dressings since I'm growing my hair out (eventually to pony-tail length) and need something to keep it out of my face. Dax gel works well, but I should have bought the extra-hold version. The extra-hold version of Clubman gel is my go-to at this point, although I sometimes add a bit of Layrite to the mix as it has a cool shine and waxiness and does not need to dry like the other gels. Plus, Layrite has an awesome vanilla scent.

Booster makes a decent tonic -- I rather enjoyed their "sage". They also make a hair application called "Russian Bear Oil" which, I should say, fills a couple of your requests above.

As always, best of luck with the venture.

Pomade; Cool Grease. Pricey but one of the best. In fact, I think the owner/importer may be looking at selling the company. I received an email a couple of weeks ago mentioning it.

Hair Tonic; The classics are Pinaud but just as classic is Pashana. Particularly their Blue Orchid. Fantastic stuff.

Regards, Todd

P.S. Best of luck. Start up business is tough. Like the other poster mentioned, I really like that sign. Definitely old school/Victorian/Edwardian/and just a bit of 'Nawlins'.

+1 love the Murray's (I think with Rob continuously praising Dax, I may have to dig deep for the $3 & try it!!!)

Re pomades, I have generally preferred Murray's, but ClubmanRob has got me using Dax. I have tried virtually everthing I have come across that I did not have to order over the net. None of it has been more than a few bucks. Certainly you need Royal Crown and I would think 360 Style.

Re hair tonics, for the life of me I have not figured out what they are supposed to do. Jeris, of course, and the varieties of Clubman. Tres Flores and other brilliantines seem like a whole other kind of animal than are pomades and tonics. I do not know where Groom and Clean fits in as far was what to call it, but these fora have turned me onto it and I like it.
