My next aftershave purchase will be a splash. I'm used to balms but have come to the realization it may not be the best for my oily skin. I want something that has a kick but doesn't have a lingering smell and a splash that really has the antiseptic quality to kill redness and bumps. I was thinking Proraso Splash. Do you think this is a good choice? If not, I am open to suggestions based your experience. Thanks!

+1. Proraso makes a fantastic splash. I think it will meet your requirements very well. Probably the most used splash in my arsenal. :thumbup1:
agree 100% with the proraso but speick is also a good choice:001_smile

I agree. Both would be excellent choices. Consider Boosters June Clover for a light clean soapy scent or Polar Ice for that classic Barbershop scent :001_smile

A lot of good suggestions but you need to try a few to find the best that works for you. For example, a lot of people like the Musgo Real splash but it just does not work for me. Contact a few vendors and see if you can get hold of some samples, best way to try a lot of stuff without breaking the bank.

I think you are looking for Speick!

This is a tough one. I have three current favorites and they've all been mentioned.
Boosters - Great scents. Nothing special in the healing department. Rough shave = burn
Proraso - Great menthol kick and nice scent. Pretty moisturizing for a splash and little to no burn even on a rough shave.
Speick - Absolutely the best for healing and skin care. It gives your skin a nice tight bracing feel. The scent is the only negative thing about this one. It's not bad, but different and I can't take it every day or this would my favorite. This one lets you know about any spot on your face you might have gotten a little rough with. Very nice!
If you go for booster's you might as well get the sample back fro Shaving Essentials.

Proraso splash is definitely my #1. I'll be buying the 400ml bottle next cause this stuff goes too fast.
SCS Med Citrus is my #2

Speick, and Proraso are my 2 favorite splashes right now.
Pitralon classic is also good, the Swiss pitralon is very good skincare wise, but I couldn't take the scent(stink) of it.

I use a balm in the cooler months but in the warmer times, generally rotate the following:
Proraso A/S - moisturizes and has some alcohol
Spieck A/S - smell great, a little moisturizing and some alcohol
Musgo A/S (I put this on while my face is still wet after hitting my face with some unsecnted witch hazel) - unique scent and very moisturizing
Trumpers extract of Limes A/S - great lime scent with alcohol - no moisturizer
Provance Sante Verlaine A/S - no alcohol but nice and moisturizing

Both Musgo Real and L'Occitane Cade A/S splashes are excellent, not drying yet they feel refreshing . The Cade is really different and has to be experienced

Musgo Real has a scent that lasts, so does L'Occitane Cade. I've never tried Boosters, but I thought I read somewhere that the Booster scents are also a bit strong.
I have found Speick and Proraso are awesome. But I also very much enjoy Dominica Bay Rum and Ogallala Bay rum. None of these stay with you for very long.

Speick and Proraso rule my roost of splashes, in that order. #3 would be Floris Santal, I love the scent, it moisturizes and calms, but it's not as cheap or as good as the Speick and Proraso splashes.
I take turns splashing around with cheap stuff (AV, Skin Bracer, Vi-Jon knockoffs, etc.).
Sue @ s. charles makes many fine ones.
hydro, med, lavender, and blue. winners for sure.

Proraso meets your criteria very well, Speick is excellent also although its scent lingers much longer than Proraso's.
Thayer's Medicated Superhazel is also worth consideration--I actually do not know of a splash that is more soothing following a rough shave, every shaver should have a bottle of the stuff on hand.

While you're thinking about what to order, go down to the supermarket and get a couple of bottles of A/V and work through them while the mailman is doing his thing. After a few days of that, find the closet place to buy Pinaud and pick up a bottle of Bay Rum and, of course, Clubman. By the time your package of Proraso gets here from Firenze, you'll have a BBS and a half-empty bottle of Lilac Vegetal on your bathroom counter. At that point, Proraso will be the icing on the cake.

My favorite alcohol-based splashes are by Santa Maria Novella. They feel good going on, have a touch a menthol for cooling, some "buffer" ingredients to help condition the skin, and unique, classy scents. The main problem is their price, although if you are considering others' recommendations for Trumper splashes, you're already in that price territory.
I'm also quite fond of Harris Pink, but it's sort of its own thing, and not really in the same category as traditional splashes.

A/V works as good as some and much better than most for me. Available anywhere and cheap. The scent is only okay, but not really bad.

You won't go wrong getting Proraso's splash. Period.
I own all sorts of soaps and creams and splashes and balms- everything from col conk to penhaligons and art of shaving, and I keep coming back to the combo of Proraso cream, splash and balm as the perfect shave.

Concur. I'm just now getting into the "high-end" splashes, but I don't know what I'd do without the Pharmacy Warriors.

x2!
AV Ice Blue and Proraso are my favorites right now, with regular Clubman a close third.
You really can't go wrong with AV though, the price/performance ratio is off the charts.

One of my favorites is generic Witch Hazel ... available everywhere, dirt cheap, unscented, and best of all, it does not burn.

Speick - you can't go wrong with it, IMO.
Aqua Velva Musk - I'm not a fan of the regular AV.
Old Spice - new or old doesn't matter to me, I like 'em both.
SCS Mediterranean Citrus - a little glycerin heavy, but I like it.
I would bet Proraso is a good choice, though I haven't tried it yet (it's on my list).
My two favorites are Master's bay rum and Pinaud Clubman (although I add glycerine to this one). Both are available at Sally's Beauty Supply if you have one locally. The Masters is scented with bay oil, so it's not synthetic like some of their other scents. And it has never let me down by causing a drying effect, unless you count the dry-ass dead of winter when all my exposed skin is trying to flake off, face or otherwise.
A homebrew concoction is another one I use- cheap, easy, quick, and endlessly variable.

I'm big on the Proraso splash too. It has a nice menthol kick to it and the scent is magnificent after it's been on for a little while. A big favorite of mine right now though is plain old Pinaud Clubman. I LOVE IT!

Try something with menthol. D. R. Harris Arlington is great but Speick's nice, too. I haven't tried any other but these I can recommend.

I'm referring to their aftershave splashes, which are called Afterhsave Lotions. These are alcohol-based splashes specifically intended to be used after shaving, and are different both from the SMN colognes and the aftershave balm (Non-Alcoholic Emulsion). The splashes are available in six different scents, whereas the balm is available only in one.
