I received a email today from a fellow student here at law school:

The Military Law Society wants to help a Florida Coastal student that is deployed in Mosul, Iraq. Captain Jeremiah Blocker started as a 1L in the fall of 2007, however in the Spring of 2008 his reserve unit was recalled and deployed to Mosul. Currently Jeremiah is the commander of the 351st Military Police Company. As of now, it is uncertain when he and his soldiers will return.

In order to assist Jeremiah and his unit, I have gotten in touch with him and asked him if there are any hard to find items that we can provide that make life a little more comfortable. He sent me a hit list of highly desired items. I attached the list. As you will see some of the items are basic toiletries (toothpaste, loofas, shaving cream, q-tips, etc.). Other items are used by the unit to hand out to some of the children in the city while his soldiers are on patrol (soccer balls, footballs, etc). Other items are practical items that are needed for the environment (sunscreen, bungee cords, socks).

The attached list was:

Baby Wipes
Bungee cords (all lengths and sizes)
Copenhagen
Tylenol
Sunscreen
Tanning Oil
Chap Stick
NOS energy drinks
5 hour energy shots
Razors
Shaving cream
Shaving soap
After shave
Darts
Deodorant
Body wash
Loofas
Shampoo
Toothpaste
Beef jerky
Gatorade/propel flavor packets to add to water bottles
Footballs
Baseballs/gloves
White socks
Dry erase markers/pens
Q-tips
Laundry detergent
Dryer sheets

So I am going to start putting together a PIF package for my fellow classmate. If you are interesting in helping out, shoot me a PM.

The final iteration of the PIF package will be posted here. We are hoping to have it mailed out in about two weeks.

Thanks!

P.S. If this is the wrong forum, feel free to move it.

EDIT: Several members have wanted to contribute but it isn't feasbile to ship just a few household items. So, I opened up accepting paypal donations. I will note your contributions and go down to the dollar store to pick up whatever isn't donated.

How about a Gillette travel razor? I have one that I'd be happy to pass along. I'll also send some blades and Toms shaving cream.

I could pick up a pack of q-tips, pain killers, and BC headache powder. What about stuff like bandaids and bar soap?

From what I was told, basic toiletries in general are desired. So soap definitely, and probably basic first aid stuff would be nice as well.

Yes! That would be great to pass along to the guys! I am going to throw in a few Bic disposables as well to ease the transition!

Im sorry, but the tanning oil made me laugh a bit.

When I shipped some stuff out, I got asked for (by brits....), tobasco, in sachets, Tiger Balm, soft loo roll, and wet wipes. Local/daily newspapers are desirable too, also anything they can barter with.

ATB,
Tom

If you want to PM me, I will send along some goodies.

Now, please excuse what follows, as I already know your heart is in the right place.

I have to ask you to edit the original post and remove identifiable information for operational security and the gentleman's own safety.

Regards,

- John

Howdy! I am active duty military and have done 3 deployments..

That list almost looks like his personal shopping list. Even in areas where they dont have a store (BX/PX/NEX) they usually have a AAFES trailor with all the items listed for sale.. it is nice to get freebies though i guess :|

"Copenhagen" really made me laugh.

Finding the laundry detergent and such that you like is a pain though. Everytime i deploy i buy things online and have them shipped directly to me that way i can get what i want. And dont be mislead its not the old days.. they can recieve and send mail.

Just a thought. Not downing anyone.

EDIT: The things i enjoyed most that i recieved while deployed was my elementary, middle, junior high and highschool had all the students draw/write me why they appreciated me being there.. some were funny (picture of a iraqi hiding in the closet like a monster while the kid slept..drawn by a 6 year old). You crave stuff from the world you came from, news papers etc are awesome but you can also go online and read them..they have MWR tents so you can get online..

The information in the OP was vetted by the company's C.O. - so if it is okay by him, it is okay by me.

Thanks to those who have donated so far, as well as rdeakle, stubblefield, and Slavac - your packages have arrived.

If you haven't seen this post, or are on the fence, give it some thought. I will only bump it a few more times in the coming week so I don't clutter up the B/S/T.

Thank you Active Duty members!
