You won't find that information posted in an open thread. All military related information, particularly information that deals with the movement of wartime materials, has to pass through the Minister of Security......or so I hear.

Hey, Czar, can I have minions yet?

That's a good point! What is this guy? Now that I've been effectively initiated (at least I hope it's close to over), doesn't he need some attention?

I don't even have underlings, though I could use one or two. I had one once. The dungeons appealed to him for some reason. He finally left there for a job as a curt jester.

11. This machine is a piece of GAGH! I need dual Pentium processors if I am to do battle with this code!

10. You cannot really appreciate Dilbert unless you've heard it read in the original Klingon.

9. Indentation?! -- I will show you how to indent when I indent your skull!!

8. What is this talk of "release"? Klingons do not make software "releases." Our software "escapes," leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.

7. Klingon function calls do not have "parameters"- they have "arguments"- and they ALWAYS WIN THEM!

6. Debugging? Klingons do not debug. Our software does not coddle the weak.

5. I have challenged the entire quality assurance team to a Bat-Lath contest. They will not concern us again.

3. By filing this defect report you have challenged the honour of my family. Prepare to die!

Okay, another fun story from Blake's work.

A few years back (A little before I started there, actually) the police were called to the mall. Upon arrival, there was a man wielding a Bat'Leth he had made himself. It appeared he wanted to commit suicide-by-cop (yes, an actual term we use) So, SWAT bean-bagged the guy down and disarmed him after a little stand-off. They discovered this guy spoke nothing but an unknown language.

Obviously, he was crazy and PD didn't know what to do, so they brought him to the hospital to figure it out. At this point, one of our officers recognised the language as Klingon. He understood enough to recognise it, but not converse with the man. However, he just happened to know of a guy in the cafeteria who spoke Klingon fluently. They went and got him and he was able to translate for PD.

Wow!

Yup. I googled the Klingon that Jesse posted and it came up with this site: http://www.kli.org/tlh/phrases.html

This phrase they have listed is the funniest: Hab SoSlI' Quch!

:lol::lol::lol:

Qo'! Hab SoSlI' Quch!

Please, please no Klingon.

Too late.

Believe me, I was much aggrieved at the "Lord of the Rings" Films and the latest "Star Trek" money grab for their departure from existing canon, but I have more important things in my life than trying to learn a pretend language.*

I just watched the latest Trek/money grab on DVD. On it's own, it wasn't too bad, but as part of the Trek "canon" it wasn't worth it, especially the way they messed with the canon and had to resort to time travel / alternate time lines to get anyone to believe it as a trek movie. I didn't much care for Pine as Kirk... only the real Kirk gets to over act like that. Spock wasn't bad and the guy who did McCoy totally nailed it. Uhura came across as um, "undecerning" with her affections.

For the record, the LOTR movie strayed very little from canon. I was quite impressed how true they stayed to the story.

Welding is definitely on my bucket list. I'm checking a few items off here and there (ham radio, tube radios), so welding might bubble up to the top in a couple of years. Also, CNC machining. There's a certain, um, part for something that definitely isn't a gun that I want to replicate.

In other news, my 1958 tube radio (http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/emud_t7279.html) came in the mail from the Bay, and it's quite a bit bigger than I expected, but it's in beautiful condition. Awesome find on the radio and that the magic eye still works, even nicer. Do beware that in most old tyme radios, the chasis (sp) is electrically "hot" and also not grounded. Touching any metal part (or the antenna wire that sticks out the back) will get you a nice 220 volt shock... tho by '58 that all may have been taken care of (not sure).

Yes, it's a lesson I learned the hard way.

Chain mail is not too hard as long as you just use butted rings and not riveted rings. I do not think I have the patience for the riveted rings. As far as the Planishing Hammer, it just seems I could do smoother work with that than I could by hand. I may give it a go any how.

Very near the top of the list for this one is a new three-prong electrical cord, tied to the ground. The existing plug and wire was apparently designed by a Darwin Award winner. Most of the design is excellent, but the cord...less so.

Some of the wires appear to have been repaired, and the two side speakers aren't quite working either. But a fifty-year-old radio will have some flaws.

Oh, it does. It also makes it 5 times the work. I can flatten the rings, but I am not sure of a economical means of making the holes. I drill just seems like a bad idea. May be the only option though.

I bet Adam doesn't have any either. If he did, it would just rust.

For whom do you make / to whom do you sell your armo[u]r? I bet shipping is a real pain!

Chain mail is not too hard as long as you just use butted rings and not riveted rings.

this is ALL very riveting but could we chain the subject? ummm change:lol:

Actually, my hold up is I need one of these (http://toolmonger.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/post-cheapasshammer.jpg).

Anything you can make with that you should first be able to make with a hammer.

I LOVE that movie! And that scene is one of the best! Well that, and:

"That ain't no gun! It was a hand cannon!"

+1 one of Tarantino's best works!

Oh, that's not me. That's just some guy on a 'Facepalm" poster.

You don't say!?!?

Oh my! That's worse than knowing Klingon!

No both are equally dorky. Although the Middle Earth bunch were the kids that got stuffed in their lockers. The only reason the Trekkies avoided being picked on is they were smart enough not to get caught alone with any of the jocks.

I'm not sure which is dorkier, though.

Both

I feel that there is a significant difference between being even a hardcore Tolkien or Roddenberry Fan, and knowing a language that never actually existed outside of a work of Fiction.

Believe me, I was much aggrieved at the "Lord of the Rings" Films and the latest "Star Trek" money grab for their departure from existing canon, but I have more important things in my life than trying to learn a pretend language.*

* Like browsing through Antique shops looking for stuff people used for personal grooming 50 to 100 years ago.

Neither LOTR or Star Trek bothered me. I can understand the direction they went with for both and why.

I promise to keep the Geeky translating to one thread on my part. :thumbup1:

Thank you, though personally I'd prefer English in all of the threads.

Man, these SlagleReports keep getting shorter and shorter.

Sorry, Matt, just been very busy lately!

Maybe he's taking a steno class?

Nope

Something is wrong, very wrong.

No, nothings wrong just busy.

If he is, then I am disappointed he didn't tell us about it.

Nope, I'd tell ya! LOL.

I have not yet made armour. I want to and have studied it extensively. Klog even got a hold of some heavy gauge steel for us. We used some really thick cardboard to make a few practice patterns too. Like you, I have many "I want to try"s. I'll get around to it beffore too long.

Which is what I will probably end up doing. Good call on the stainless, BTW.

I had several attempts made to do such evils to me. However, when cornered, I could always fight my way out. The Vice Principal always punished me, no mater what I did. He didn't like the school geek beating up all the jocks, I guess. It's funny, I never lost a fight in school, and believe me, I was in plenty. Yet, I was neatly 25 before it finally occurred to me I wasn't a wimp and could handle about anyone that tried anything on me.

I know several of you are not married, but to those that are, Do you find each year a little harder to buy an anniversary gift? What is ten years supposed to be anyhow? Also, we are going to Chicago next weekend. Any suggestions (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=118038) are appreciated.
