Oh, yes. Everything is fine, thank you.

I'm turning 50 tomorrow and I'm feeling sorry for myself, so I'm even sulkier than usual (and that's saying something). Nothing more and nothing less than that.

Well then, an early congratulations on the big 5-0! While it is a good opportunity to look back and reflect, no need to be overly sentimental or depressed about it though. I'm reminded of the famous words of Monty Python (Holy Grail): "I'm not dead yet!"

Seriously, it's just a number. As long as you've got your friends/family and health.. what more can one want?

You are absoutely correct, and intellectually I agree with you 100%. Nevertheless, and without putting too fine a point on it, it feels very "real" and, therefore, a little scary. (FWIW, I did not feel this way at 30 or 40.)

BTW, I have an "I'm not dead yet!" Spamalot t-shirt at home. Maybe tonight will be a good night to wear it.

Thanks for the kind wishes, gentlemen.

Well in case you didn't notice the Colts were losing up until the very end. Made for a great game though.

I know, I watched with great vengeance and furious anger (Pulp Fiction moment) until Bill Belichick took a huge bite of a retard sandwich. At that moment he was the Colts MVP for that game!

Oh well. Duckster, here is your new avatar.

It was a great game until the Patriot's meltdown at the end :thumbdown... oh well.

Meltdown is an understatement. It just shows how arrogant Belichick is and how stupid Brady is. Belichick for making the assumption that they were going to pull it off and Brady for buying into it.

Within some parameters, isn't this the reason for creating the Clown House? Because, to a point, all these threads are a fairly constant set of guys clowning around and boosting their post count? I wouldn't object to merging "Whtvr" with "no title". It's clearly the same thread.

BUT: despite its presence in the Clown House, I think "Linux Mint" is a different animal. It's silly, but occasionally esoteric and hugely helpful.

So I says to myself this week, "self, why not try for a sequential score?". I would've preferred 234 points, but 123 ain't bad. Actually, nobody's score is bad this week -- I've been impressed by the fact that we're all very much in this thing (and relieved that I'm part of "all").

And whadya' know -- Kentucky actually pulled it out last night. Let's just not discuss the implications of a 72-70 win against Miami of Ohio for the remainder of the season... It was fun to see them play, nonetheless. I love college basketball season!

Skeet shooting is so much fun you'll piss yourself! It does take a little time to get the hang of it, though. If the guys you are going with do it a lot, just listen to their instruction. They won't lead you astray. Be sure to always keep the gun pointed down-field...always. Don't shoot the ground in front of you, and be mindful of where the barrel is at all times. Don't mess that up, and you'll be allowed to shoot until your heart's content.

Basically, you'll just follow the moving skeet with the barrel of the gun. Shotguns have only a front sight, and you'll look 'through' (so to speak) that sight to the skeet. Lead it a little (aim slightly ahead of the target) and squeeze the trigger. Don't stop following the skeet until after you've shot.

Let us know how it goes. I've taught my little sister, who is 7 years younger than me, to shoot skeet successfully. I'm sure you can do it.

And now for something completely different.......

So, I accepted the job and now it's time to pack up. Made it back into Washington today, meeting with the real estate agent tomorrow. Got a PO box and opened a checking account in Texas...so we can start the massive pain of transfering everything over.

There is a lot of bonus stuff that is going to come with this job. For one, there are TWO pecan trees on the parsonage property.....oh man.....I can taste the pecan pie now....:drool::drool:

I agree with nearly everything you've said there. I'm okay with Toyota being there, and not just because I drive one. Their presence in NASCAR is a slap in the face to American car companies, and they needed that...still do. Toyota makes good, reliable vehicles at reasonable prices that people want to buy. They have outsold the big three by leaps and bounds in the past few years, and our government (i.e. tax payers) hasn't had to bail them out of anything. I'm rootin' for a bow tie to cross the finish line first every time, but I have to commend Toyota for knowing their market and conducting business sustainable, at least compared to American car companies.

I got invited last night to shoot some skeets when I go home for Thanksgiving. I have never shot a skeet before, I hear they are wonderful creatures!

Just don't look 'em in the eye. They are sweet little creatures if you gaze upon them too long you'll just end up adopting/raising them and that will likely PO your friends.

I'm certain they will let me fire one shot. After that, it'll be, "Ray, stand over there and watch us."

:lol::lol:

Be sure to always keep the gun pointed down-field...always. Don't shoot the ground in front of you, and be mindful of where the barrel is at all times.

Excellent advice!

Besides, Nobel's are reserved for presidents who might someday, potentially, just maybe could do something someday that could amount to something worthy of one of the freakin' most prestigious awards of our time. :001_rolle Just sayin...

Clearly you've never been in graduate school. Find Ramen noodles; add soup.

I lived on that through college. Still keep some around most of the time.

And going out in the evening by myself sucks. I guess I'll have to though.

I know what you mean. It drives my wife nuts, but I don't like going places without her.

Yes it is....I technically am finally old enough to have grandkids (I'm 37) but the oldest is 14...so I'm nowhere near enough to have grandkids THAT old. My wife is 15 years older than me.

Gotcha!

There is a lot of bonus stuff that is going to come with this job. For one, there are TWO pecan trees on the parsonage property.....oh man.....I can taste the pecan pie now....:drool::drool:

:thumbup1: Not a fan of pecan pie, but I love pecans. Weird, I know.

I'm with Jesse, though, $1 will buy you at least 5 packs of Ramen noodles, 6 if you buy the Wal-Mart brand.

DG sells name brand 6pk for $1.

I do too. However, it kind of died with the Intimidator for me.

I lost my love for the sport when Davey Allison died. I tried to stay in it, but the sport was slowly changing through the '90s.

just too much crap and not enough racin'

oh well

Go to a local NASCAR track. There are at least two around here. I have never been, but if you really like stock car racing the old way, then that is the only place you will find it.

The final straw for me was when they strated trying to keep things even, which completely defeated the original purpose.

It really got started about 20 or so years ago with the introduction of restrictor plates. It's been downhill since.

Are you talking about dirt tracks? Those things are scattered all over north GA, western NC and SC, and TN. So, Swampfox, I guess you are in prime racing territory. Then again, NC is kind of home to NASCAR anyway. I LOVE some dirt track racing, though! 'Rubbin's Racin'. Those guys beat up on each other the entire time they're on the track. And there is usually a fight in the pits at some point. I spent whole summers going to watch those things.

oh, I still love stock car racing, don't mistake my disdain for what the big-giant-heads of NA$CAR have done to the top-tiers as a lack of love for the racing, it should be a slap in the face to them that the top level is less exciting and more sissified than the local dirt track

and as for my Toyota comment, I've nothing against Toy's, and I fully understand why nascar has them in it, I just don't think it's Nascar - create a new division, or change the name from "NATIONAL" Association of Stock Car Automobile Racing...

I prepare them much the way one would prepare Snipe. They pan sear very well. Although they fly, I would avoid preparing them as fowl. They don't respond to well to baking; they come out tough.

You'll find that most professional Skeet chefs often season them with a combination of oak bark and hemlock. Although, I'd be remiss if I didn't suggest just wrapping them in bacon, marinading them in Dale's, and grilling them.

Oh, and there's no limit on skeet. Although you don't often see them (they fly so fast), they are very densely populated in North America.

Never thought of grilling them, thanks for the tip.
Usually I just bake them in a clay pot.

I've been sporting a "Picard" fully shaved head for almost ten years. I was mostly bald before that, so, yeah, I had few choices. Patrick Stewart wasn't the reason. It was pure practicality -- I didn't want to keep paying $15-$25 a haircut when it never looked good anyway.

And while I do a fair "Picard" impersonation, my Dr. Evil is better.

What grows on the sides and back is kept very short, I normally take the clippers to it every 2 weeks on the lowest setting. The top, 3 hairs grow there, and I shave them, cuz it would look stupid if I let them grow! I started shaving my head completely during the summer. Decided to grow a little insulation for the colder months.

Are you talking about dirt tracks? Those things are scattered all over north GA, western NC and SC, and TN. So, Swampfox, I guess you are in prime racing territory. Then again, NC is kind of home to NASCAR anyway.

Yeah, most of them are dirt tracks, a few have been paved. It is still the best way to see real stock car racing. Most of those guys do it for the fun of it. That's where a lot of the old time guys got their start in racing - Earnhardt, Martin, Rusty Wallace, and a host of others. Yeah, I am not too far from the home of the Pettys (about an hours south of here). I grew up in an area of SC that is real big on that style of stock car racing, that's where some of the paved tracks are. I knew several people growing up whose families were real big in that style of racing, some owned and/or raced cars.

I agree with you. I remember when NASCAR cut North Wilkesboro from the track roster. My dad said then that NASCAR was getting too big, and would eventually cut out the smaller venues. Look at what we have now: Rockingham has been nixed, Darlington (I grew up in that tracks shadow) is down to one race, and is always threatened with losing that race. I think NASCAR is cutting its throat by doing so. The sport wouldn't exist with out the good ole boy, smalltown tracks, and it may desperately need those tracks again if it wants to survive as a sport.

Where in SC are you from? I am from northeast GA, a little town called Toccoa. There is a pretty busy, little dirt track there, and it is less than 10 miles from the SC state line. My step-dad used to own a late model, but that was before he became my step-dad. I've been to tracks all over that area, including one or two in SC; the one in Seneca comes to mind right off hand.

Opposite side of the state, northeast side, Pee Dee Region. County DARLINGTON, lol. Funny thing, we would always pass the track "Too Tough to Tame" when heading to Florence (nice sized city), and when I was little, I that that was where they filmed Star Track (track = trek to a little kid with my wild imagination!) movies. All of my time growing up was spent in Hartsville, Darlington and Florence mostly.
