I bought a $30 DVD player. I just need something that will show movies until I get a BluRay player. I watched Iron Man again. Love that movie.
Had an ok night. My wife's cousin came over and he and I went to a Leonardo exhibit at a local museum. Only US stop and it was amazing. I can't get over how much stuff I use every day was invented in the 14 and 1500's. They were using cranks, cams, flywheels... bearings... so amazing. The dorky car guy/engineer/gadget freak in me was going ballistic. Best $25 I've spent in a long time.
For whatever reason I'm feeling optimistic right now. Even if I shouldn't be.

We need to put that $30 dvd player with my $85 Tv. I bet it will work just fine..
Another great SE shave this morning. Can not keep my hand off my face. I really am going to sell most of my DE stuff when I get my 45 days in. Just going to keep my open comb travel razors. That looks to be my newest collecting item. The Fat handle gold tech and case.... and a few others are going to go. Already got rid of the fatboy.
Picked up some C.O. Bigalow yesterday and used it for the first time this morning. Great stuff. I will be using that tube alot me thinks.
Well back to the work of the kingdom. Slow morning in the casino.

Mornin' boys. I'm a big DaVinci admirer. Talk about a man who thought outside the box. Was watching a show about him on the Disc. chan.; turns out he basically discovered arterial sclerosis about 400 years before anyone knew it existed. Amazing. I'm a firm believer that every so often someone is born into this world who is just flat a cut above the rest of us. They are put here to advance our race in some fundamental way. DaVanci is the prime example of such a man. Einstein and Hawking are two more I can think of. I wish I could have seen that exhibit. Good on you for going.
Another beautiful day in the Valley. Nice cool breeze this am. Man my wife went nuts yesterday. She had a kid come over and pull all the greenery from our yard (A lot of it was dead or dying). Went to H. Depot and got a bunch of new shrubs and trees that now need to be planted. Glad I'm going in to work later and will miss that. Sad when you gotta go to work to catch a break!
Well happy Sunday gents. Enjoy the football and brisk Fall weather if you can.

Yes. I have a chocolate plecostomus that I regularly feed fresh lettuce, cucumber, zucchini, and spinach to. It's a good idea to supplement your fish's diet with vegetables and fruits, but I'd go easy on the bread. It'd be a shame to rupture your fish's stomach with something that potentially will expand inside him or that he can't digest.
Nice to see another fish keeper!

I had wings last night at my wife's aunt's house. That was fun. Nice to know I have family so far away from my own. I'm going over there for dinner again tonight. Good stuff. She's an amazing cook. Tri tip... droooool.
I leave for Vegas on Wednesday and between now and then I have quite a few things to do. Have to get fitted for a tux. Friend is getting married soon and I'm in the wedding party. Need to finish cleaning the apartment. Laundry has to be done. Gotta figure out what I'm packing. Its basically 2 days of conference. I was going to take one pair of slacks, two shirts and one pair of shoes. Besides what I wear on the plane and an extra casual shirt. Does that sound like enough? Need to pick up my drycleaning. Was going to try to take one of the dogs for shots but I doubt I'll have time. Plus all the regular stuff I have to do around here.
Friday I came home and the toilet was flooding the bathroom. Pleasant surprise. I got it to stop but didn't have a chance until yesterday to fix it. Tried plunging to no avail. Went to Home Depot and was sold the wrong kind of auger. That didn't work. So I returned that and got the CORRECT type based on internet documents. That worked like a charm. I dried it off and returned that one as well. Does that make me a bad person? I like to think not.
Wow, I guess I have a lot to say. I spent a decent amount of the weekend alone which probably has something to do with it. Alright, I'm done for now. Back to work.

It is interesting; I was thinking about this the other day as well. There may be over 10k members here, but I would say between 100 and 200 members are actively posting and keeping the place alive. The site is full of great info so all the surfers and guests that stop by get what they need hopefully, and that's what the main purpose is IMO. Posting to web forums just isn't for most folks I think. I would never have thought I'd be an active participant in any online forum, but the lure of B&B draws some of us in I guess.

I love my DVR (well, the cable company owns it). I pause live TV a lot.
Shep, did you already have Direct TV or did you just start with them?
I already had Direct TV and hence wasn't eligible for any freebies, but they knocked off a hundred for being a "loyal" customer. I like Direct TV because they are all digital whereas the local cable company is not. Only bad thing is when the monsoon blows you sometimes lose the signal. It's infrequent enough though that it's not worth getting my panties in a bunch. I'm wondering about you all up north though. Do the winter blizzards or snow on the roof affect the signal?

That is a lot of randomness. My dad uses a lathe. He's always been something of a woodworker; passed down from his dad. I could make my way around a woodshop when I was younger but it's been so many years now I'd be of little use on any carpentry project. I feel a little bad about that. Woodworking is an artform that is becoming lost to time and technology. Anyway my dad spins up bowls, lamp posts and so on. He's pretty skilled. Good for you on your new toy.

That's something else I wish I could do. I've always had a fantasy of playing instruments. Those that interest me are the piano, guitar and drums. I played (use the term loosely) the saxaphone in junior high band, and found I have no musical talent whatsoever. It's one of those right brain/left brain things. I've always been pretty good at logic and deduction but have very little artistic talent which kind of bums me out. Can't draw, paint, play music etc. I'm devoid of the creative process; I'm a drone; I'm just a cog in the machine; AHHHHHHHH!!!!

I'm not sure how many of you (if any ) pop into my personal hell that is the Linux Mint thread, but I'm currently testing out some new versions of the latest edition Mint 5.0 Elyssa. In addition, I'm trying out a new desktop environment (KDE instead of Gnome) and it's been a struggle. Uffda! Mouse doesn't work. Run through a gabillion internet searches, commands, file edits, etc. Wanna know what fixed it? A PS/2 connection instead of the USB (PS/2 is the round connector with the pins...you know, the old school pre-USB one ).
Now, I can't connect to the internet. Solve one problem, turn over another. Ugh. Who needs a drink?
don't go too old school, you'll end up with the serial connector...at least it's not a keyboard and you need the old A/T style connector

I am off work tomorrow so just taking it easy tonight..
Shep I have started useing some of your lathering ideals and such.. mostly using some pre lather slather as part of the prep. I like it. I have also started to let my bowl and brush soak in hot water, then leave the bowl in the sink with hot water while I am shaving. I guess I am going too ask for a dirty bird scuttle for christmas.
I had always just face lathered but man oh man..... that nice warm lather in the bowl may be better when I have the time.. and since I get up early just to have more shave time.. I use the bowl most the time now. seeee even an ole Bunny can learn new tricks.:ciappa:

Good on ya bunny-boy. A big +uno to the bowl-float, warm lather routine. Frankly I don't know how guys do it any other way. I hate cool lather on the face. I've considered a scuttle but have resisted so far. My $5 Target bowl works just fine in the sink. Plus that money is better spent...to wit: I am informed my latest acquisitions are awaiting my arrival home. Three new AS's for the Shep! Pinaud Citrus Musk, Lustray Coachman and Masters Lord & Master. And in a few days I'm expecting a Honeybee soap--Lilac. So you see my money is tied up elsewhere. Stay tuned to the AS forum for reviews.
btw we've cranked off three pages in the Anything thread today. That's a record I think.

See... now I feel bad cause I wasn't here much today to contribute to the debauchery and the lechery. To make up for this, I will pour a round of drinks for my fellow Anythingers and each of you will get a lovely woman to be lecherous with. (Oh words from the Middle Ages, how I love thee).
Had a long evening tonight and didn't have much time to eat today, so I've got a headache and feel slightly sick from lack of food. I ate some vegetables in Tom Yum Sauce over rice when I got home (around 10 PM). I must confess that I did not cook. I was not in the mood to do so on my way home, so it came courtesy of Trader Joe's, which happens to conveniently be on the path back home. It was mediocre at best, unfortunately, and quite small. I'm going to go grab some more food, take a shower, and practice piano (FINALLY!!). I'll be back here in the wee hours of the morning.

I hate putting a cold brush to my face. No matter how hot it is outside, I usually shower in scorching hot water. The mirror ends up completely fogged by the time I get out of the bathroom and the girlfriend usually asks me if I'm trying to scald myself.
I will then proceed to shave in the sauna that I created. There are a number of times I put a cool brush to my face recently. It just felt really uncomfortable to me for some reason.
It's really strange, because I love the cold - winter is my favorite season. I cannot, however, take a cold shower.

Wow! Just realized how incoherent the sentence in bold is. I'm so ashamed of myself. It should read as follows:
I was not in the mood to do so, so the food came courtesy of Trader Joe's, which happens to conveniently be on the path back home.

I posted a question about an old Gillette that i just for off the bay. That is over in the safty razor forum. I have been wanting a open comb one like that and a friend offered to buy it for me. Anyone else have friends like that? I hope the one I got will clean up and be a good shaver. It is really the only style DE I am intrested in using these days.
Scottydoint sent me a nice Gem Junior as a trade for some instructions for a fatboy that he needed. That was very nice of him. I got the GEM, which is in very much shaver condition and a tube of wars SC in yesterday. Going to put the GEM to the test in the morning. WOOHOO.. love the first time with a new one.

Mmmm. Cheese. I had blue cheese and crackers for breakfast this morning. I'm pretty sure that cheese is one of the most fantabulous edible commodities in history.
I'm a huge fan of Havarti with Dill. I do like most cheeses made with Goat's milk as well. Boucheron is pretty nice. I'm extremely tired right now so I can't remember the names of all the strange cheeses I've tried that I really like.
What strange cheeses do you guys like?

I just pray for my wife to listen to reason. She needs to talk to someone that can help, not her friends that have never been married or her once/twice/thrice divorced friends and family members.
We'll see how it all works out eventually.

Afternoon gents. Ryan is in the air on his way to Vegas now so I'm too late to offer safe trip vibes. I am sorry to hear about your personal problems. I have absolutely no words of advice or consolation other than to say your Anything brothers are with you.
Shep was up at 0 dark thirty today which sucks the big wang-a-lang. I hate working morning shifts. I've been on afternoon/evening shifts for years, but this next month I've got the early shift. Which means early to bed, early to rise, fight traffic, be tired all day, get home early and want to do nothing but go to bed. Blech! I don't know how people can stand it. I've always been a creature of the night and will be glad when this month is over. Anyway if you start seeing some 7am posts from me, you'll know why.
Thanks to those of you who checked in to the Lustray review thread and for all the kind words. Later on I'll be doing review #2. As a special bonus for belonging to the Anything thread I'll let you know before anyone else today's review will be Pinaud Citrus Musk. In a word, get it. More to follow.
That's all my tired brain can come up with for now. Think I'll go surf the threads for awhile. Later boys.

So you are saying that I smell funny...... I went back by the drug emporium this morning to look around somemore. Started to buy a bottle of the Citrus Musk. But the bunny had been in full RAD mode the last few weeks... and he has burned up a bit to much of the gas cash. So will have to wait.
Ryan sorry to say I did not know about the home problems. Having been divorced once I can say it do suck hard. But you live through. If it is not to that point yet there is still hope. My way of dealing is to look on the good side. Find something in life that is doing well. Likeee ohhhhhhhh... I dunno.. maybe like the Bunny is on your side.

The Bunny got lucky. I picked up a 1920's New Improved Gillette last night on the bay.. a friend is getting it for me as I stated last night. Well come to find out the box it is in is mismatched. That was the bad news.. The good side to that is I have already got a email in wanting to trade a G-Bar for the case. Gotta love that. Get the razor I have been wanting.... and a g bar for the same price. Case.,.. we don't need no stinking case.. well ok I will be on the hunt for the proper case.
Edit cause I don't want to post another to here. The bunny sold his first razor onthe BST goooo Bunny..

I think I do a similar thing around Easter. Cadbury's makes those cream eggs with fondant sugar inside that are only made around Easter. I love them. The ones made in the USA are nowhere near as good as the ones made in the UK, so I try to get my hands on the UK version. I usually finish them right before summer starts.

Congrats to the bunny and Dom on passing the 1k mark. Now they are as long winded as the rest of us.
As for the the gifs, they are located on a computer I haven't been using much lately so have no way to post them. One of these days I'll make up for missed oportunities and use them again.
And the stinking monkey has been fed for the week. Three new AS's and an HBS soap on the way...in fact I'm starting to twitch over that one; it should have been here by now. The monkey will start clawing my back if it doesn't get here soon.
Pretty good day today. Stayed up late last night watching Don't Mess With the Zohan...very stupid; don't waste your time. So we've been lazing around, sleeping most of today. A great first of five days off. Later when it cools down I'll go do a little work in the back yard. We're still struggling w/ a few 100 degree days and today is one of them. They won't last much longer though. As for pumpkin treats, I don't know what it is about pumpkin, but I just can't seem to take it. When I was a kid I loved pumpkin pie during the holidays, but as I've gotten older find I can't handle that flavor anymore. It's way too sweet and tangy. Makes my throat constrict. I'm an apple pie guy during the holiday seasons now. Nothing beats homemade of course, but Costco makes a kickass cinnamon/apple pie if you've never tried it. Mmmmmmmmm...pie .

Ah. I thought they were some sort of snack cakes. Those actually do look good. I'm a huge fan of pumpkin, so I'll take a look in the grocery for those the next time I'm there. I've actually got this huge craving for sugar right now and I have no idea why. Unfortunately, I don't keep sugary sweets in my apartment, so I'm out of luck.

Thanks, Shep. I look forward to seeing the booty shakes. I'm a huge fan of spices and cinnamon. I actually drank some warm mead tonight - mead went on the stove in a pot and mulling spices were tossed into it. Mmmm. I don't drink very often and rarely drink more than a drink or two when I do drink, but I'm actually tempted to finish off the bottle.

Ya, this is a great thread (thanks Shep). I read way more than I post (just like on the rest of this site). It's nice to be able to jump in anytime to shoot the bull or to be serious no matter who you are and not feel like an outsider (at least that's how I feel about this thread and the people here).
I was away from the site for a couple days and just read the last four pages of this thread to get caught up.
I'm sorry about the trouble you're having Ryan and hope you can work things out with your wife.

Yeah, those political threads are something else. It only takes a few days for them to go four kinds of sideways and a day or two after that the ole padlock shuts them down.
Honestly when I started the Anything thread I had no idea it would have this sticking power, but I'm glad it does. We've got a good core membership and a great cast of characters that poke their heads in every now and again. We're like Cheers; I always liked Norm so I get to be him .
My final review is up on the AS forum for those that care. I took some of your advice and posted them permanently in the Reviews section. I love the affordable aftershaves and can see no reason to pay $40 a bottle when perfectly acceptable scents can be had at a fraction of the cost. I've got nothing against the expensive versions, but just don't see the need. I'm cheap that way I guess. Though I will admit to having a hankerin' for Royall Lyme. Someday...maybe.
EDIT: Shoot, I almost forgot. For the bunny and Dom:
3185831859
and a big Hells Yeah for good measure:
31860
and two of my personal favorites just because I can:
3186131862
EDIT 2: Does anybody else using Firefox notice the gifs moving at an accelerated speed? When I use IE they look fine, but on FF they all look like they're hopped up on amphetamines. Weird.

Shep... I'm a regular user of Firefox. I just loaded up this page in IE and did notice exactly what you noticed. Thanks for the booty!
On another note, just finished shaving. I have not once put a huge gash in my strop. Tonight, for some reason, I put two large gashes in my strop. Awesome. It could be worse - I could have cut my hand open again. To be honest, though, I'm kinda pissed at myself for defacing a good strop.
For those members of the Anything Thread that are regulars, I have an offer for you. Shep is first in line, but if any of you are interested in trying a straight, I will be honing up a good shaver (not a looker, but a shaver) and will make it available for circulation within here.
Alright. I'm going to go sit in my recliner and sip... water. Yeah. There's no brandy here.
Speaking of brandy, I wonder how Rolls is doing.
Eagle
10-09-2008, 10:19 PM
We've talked about this before Dom so you know I'm interested in trying out a straight. However that said, I have no way to sharpen, hone, strop etc. the thing once I've used it so I would have to mail it back to you before the next guy in line. If that's acceptable to everyone then shoot it my way. I'd love to try it out.
And now this is as political as the Anything thread is allowed to get: Shep just completed his early ballot and will be mailing it out tomorrow. I love elections and voting. It is our number one civil right and duty as Americans IMO. I encourage all of you to exercise this privilege and vote this year. The peaceful transfer of power is one of the great things about our little Republic, and it is one of the chief reasons I am honored to serve her. Ok, speech over. Back to hilarity and hijinks.

Love the soap Dom. Used it this morning great lather. That C&E stuff is nice. I already use straights but thanks for the offer. I was thinking about doing the same thing with a Gem Junior I have. If any of you guys want to try one. It is not a looker, but shaves great. But I will warn you... once you take it around the block a few times your DE stuff will get dusty.
Well back to work..

Hey there everyone! Ole' Rolls is back, although only on a part time basis for now. The laptop crapped out on me again, so it is on the way back to HP to get fixed......... again! That leaves me having to use my Wii to get online. It is slow typing using the controller to point at the TV. :
Well, on to the next subject. The day of my last post, I was temporarily banned from the site. One of my houseguests thought it would be amusing to type in a line of profanities while I was attending to the grill. I later found out that a hold was placed on my account, which sucked, but all is well again. After I type this message I will see if my avatar has been reinstated, or if I will have to redo that too.
NEXT!! Now to the question that mosy likely in the forefront or your minds. Did Rolls fall of the wagon yet? That would be a big fat NEGATIVE!!! Ole' Rolls is riding the wagon and actually enjoying the "normal life". The DT' s were a little rough, but the weekend in Gettysburg (in the company of a beautiful, and quite flexable, woman!) made it go by almost unnoticed. I will get some pictures posted whenever my laptop is returned.
Well, this is just too damn much, trying type like this, You guys take care, have fun, and keep the site going. To the mods who banned me............ I am changing my password, so we should be cool.
Peace,
Rolls

Woooeeee. Just got done shaving w/ a superlather of Pirates Cove lime and CO Bigelow. Man o man that was some cool mixture. Not even floating the bowl in hot water was enough to warm it up. An icy shave followed by a splash of Pinaud Musk. As the little one is fond of saying: 'mells good papa! Darn tootin' it does.
I read a post by another member who said he shaves with nothing but superlather as it's the only way he can get good shaves. I'm thinking along the same lines lately. Tabac is about the only consistently good shave I get on it's own. I like using all those yummy flavored glycerin pucks, but they just require a bit more help getting it done. CO Bigelow, Body Shop and KMF make excellent S.L. creams should you decide to indulge that particular monkey.
Well Shep is on his own tonight w/ little miss Jackie so I guess it's lots of kids TV and ice cream cones. The weather is beeeyouteeful here this evening. All the windows and doors are open letting in a nice semi-cool breeze. A nice shave, a nice night and nice company. What more could a guy ask for?

just had wedding rehearsal tonight, a wedding tomorrow...
isn't irony a funny thing?
this week I've been splitting the majority of my free time counseling and encouraging a close friend (not a member here, but a convert of mine) who's dealing with a marital crisis, while at the same time preparing to conduct the wedding of a family friend...so on one end I'm about to announce a husband and wife, and the other end help a husband who is dealing with the opposite...
craziness
tomorrow...Gillette Super Adjustable, Red Pack Personna, my Ever Ready restored brush, Uncle Albert's Atreides + Proraso superlather, & probably Old Spice Sport
I'm still working on an idea, stay tuned....
as for custom brushes, we'll see if my abilities get any better, but I'd love to get to that point, I'm in need of a constructive hobby...
watching last night's This Old House...taped, of course (haven't built a FreeVo yet)

We're supposed to sit down on Sunday to discuss things. I don't think we're through. I think God has bigger plans for us. He just needs us to open our eyes.
I'm going alright, Shep. Thanks for the thoughts. Everyone, really. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I maintain in my heart and soul that we're meant to be together.
Her step dad came over tonight and we talked. I gave him a letter to give her and he read it. I think it opened his eyes to how strongly I do feel about her. I've made a lot of 'ah hah!' discoveries this past week. I realized that I'm pushing her away by not letting her have the space she wants/needs. I see all of the errors we've made. I see what we need to fix - at least a majority of it. I don't have the hows, but I know some of the whys at least. We really need counsel. That's the bottom line. I don't think either of us is really wanting to throw in the towel.
Wow... that's a lot more than I really meant to type. Sorry to drag this thread down. "I had ribs for lunch. Ribs. That's why I'm doing this." (quote added for a bit of humor)
This sums up a lot of what I'm feeling:
I don't get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here
And where was I before the day
That I first saw your lovely face?
Now I see it everyday
And I know
That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest
What if I'd been born fifty years before you
In a house on a street where you lived?
Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike
Would I know?
And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know
That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest
I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you
Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties
And one day passed away in his sleep
And his wife; she stayed for a couple of days
And passed away
I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong
That I know
That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

Glad you like the shave. It did make a nice lather, but it just didn't agree with my skin for some reason and I have stuff that I like more (and I'm trying to thin out my collection of soaps and creams, which is WAY too large).
As for the Gem, I might actually be interested in trying it.

I tried out a three puck sampler a while back and ended up trading away two of the three pucks. From what I remember, it doesn't really thrill me that much. I'm glad to hear you made a lot of 'ah hah' discoveries this week. While I'm not married, I've been in a serious long-term relationship for a while now and came to the realization only recently (in the past year) that while it may be hard sometimes, giving your significant other the space they need is extremely important.
It's good that you're becoming more aware of the problems that need fixing. Realizing that you made mistakes, admitting them, and then learning from those mistakes you've made in the past is very admirable. I'm glad neither of you want to throw in the towel. I wish you and your wife the best.

Yes, I'm an ordained minister and youth pastor. Actually performing the wedding for a family friend, it's my first one, so I'm imaginably nervous, but that's okay, it helped the bride relax knowing I was more nervous than her and the groom together. It'll serve as good warm-up as I have two more certain ones coming down the pipe in the form of former youth members who've asked me to do their wedding.
as for the crisis, I was hesitant to say much without knowing you to well, or what your spiritual belief and standing is, so now I'll go ahead and say, you're doing the right thing by meeting with your pastor and getting counseling. If you're both willing to stick it out and maintain the covenant you've agreed to, God will bless it. I'll also submit that, just like exercise breaks down muscle and in the recovery the muscle gets stronger, same can be said for the relationship. Both parties must be willing to be submissive to one another and God...your situation, to my ears (eyes?)
appears much more hopeful than the one I'm involved in where there's a "third party"....
so work with your pastor, continue to love one another, and be flexible, remembering that your spouses needs come before your own...when both parties do this, all needs get met.

I have been feeling abit bad today. We had a health fair at work yesterday and I thing for the first time the flu shot got me a touch sick. Not bad, but I can feel it. Also realized looking at my meter readings over the last Month that I am letting my diet slip. Got to get it back under control, and get back to walking. Sugar has been staying too close to 200 GRRRRRRR.
Dom let me know about the GEM, I have a great Junior that Scottydoint sent me that you will love. But again I say do not blame me if you fall in love. The good thing is that you can pick the things up for nothing on the bay in great shape.
Well off to check the mail. I got a nice very nice that is Gem in yesterday.. Maybe a G bar. I do not know exactly. it came with a blade pack that had it's own little space inthe case. You have to do all the screening and such and get the shot to get into the drawing. It is a tribal casino and the tribal folks want us to be able to work.

EDIT: I an going to edit this into this post instead of making another one.
I just got finished shaving with my newest GEM. The featherweight. It was another amazing shave from a SE. Used a Pella blade that a friend sent me, and some trumpers sandlewood cream that Dom sent a sample of. Finished up with some Pinaud special reserve. If I had some of the citrus Musk I would have used it. I got no burn, and one little old weeper that stopped before I even got finished. No irritation and almost no sting from the AS.. AWESOME.

yummy, pumpkin delights for (almost) midnight snack - great sports day: LSU, Oklahoma, and Missouri lost, setting Bama up for a snatch of #1 spot - unfortunately, they had an idle week, and since Texas was #5, beating #1 Oklahoma, they may move to the top spot....
and Jeff Burton won the Nascar race...
and now, I shall try to sleep, past two nights have been awful for ZZZ's, don't know why, probably nerves for the wedding, now that that's over, maybe I can rest.

Long day today. I finally have some down time. I just got back from seeing a friend who's visiting Boston. I was basically home for about one hour between 9ish and 12:10 or so to shower after work.
It was very nice to see my friend as I haven't seen her in quite a while, but I must say that I am very glad to be home.
This afternoon, after leaving work, I took a trip to the grocery. The main purpose of my trip was to look for those pumpkin cookies Jim keeps talking about. Unfortunately, they didn't have any. :frown: I guess this warrants a trip to another grocery in the near future. I'm quite lucky to be living where I live. There's a Stop & Shop about 7 minutes away on bike, a Trader Joe's about 2 minutes before the Stop & Shop, a Shaw's/Star Market (big grocery chain up here) 7 minutes away in another direction, and a Whole Foods 10 minutes away from my apartment in the opposite direction of the Shaw's.
On the way back from Stop & Shop, I popped into an Indian Grocery I hadn't been in for a while to see if they had any Godrej shaving cream or alum blocks. Unfortunately, they don't carry either.
So if I have this right I said "buttplug" to an ordained minister??? Hmm, there's a couple brownie points lost from the book of life. Actually my dad is an Episcopal priest, and he's heard me say worse so it's all good.

I'll take the HBS soap for a spin tomorrow morning and post my impressions here. For those curious about the scent, it's sandalwood vanilla.

Hey, the Cardiac Cards are actually holding their own against the Boys today. It's even an exciting football game; go figure. I will never foresake my beloved Broncos, but I like to support the hometown team too. A pretty tall order these last 10 years!
Another beautiful fall day in AZ. 70 deg. and a nice breeze. It will last for another couple weeks and then the cool winter weather will hit us. Mind you nothing like other parts of the country but cool enough for our purposes. I might actually wear a long sleeved shirt.

This is almost unbelievable. I think the Cards are actually going to win this game. That would be huge for this team. Huge!
EDIT: HAHAHAHAHAHA! No sooner do I hit 'submit' and they give up a huge, long TD run to Dallas. Now they're up by only 3 at the two minute warning.

No need to apologize. I'm not a die hard Cards fan. Frankly they had this game won and now through a series of typically boneheaded moves they're on the verge of losing. Boys get the ball first in OT. Here we go...23 yard line. Boys have the ball....
EDIT: How unbelievable was that finish! Blocked punt--which are nearly impossible--and two yards to the end zone. Cards win in spite of themselves. Congrats Cards.

Not a bad day for me with a Chicago loss and a Packers win...
That at least makes it a little easier for the Pack to come back from being down in the division. That loss last week really hurt. Still, it is hard to root for the Green and Gold with Favre in just... well, Green.

I'm just figuring out that with the new DVR box comes a service from Direct TV called On Demand. Basically a library of thousands of shows and movies downloaded to the box (via ethernet and wireless/wired internet) for later viewing. Oh wait, you meant actual blackeyed peas... ugh. I had a childhood friend who lived with his grand parents and they fixed BEP for every, and I mean every meal. what a great weekend...Texas beat OU, Florida beat LSU, and Missouri lost (not that that's a great thing, but it opened the door for Bama)...unfortunatly, Bama had an idle weekend, which followed a tough win from a tough and under-recognized Kentucky team, so Texas moved to #1 spot, but that's okay

Today is my last of five days off. Man they went by quick. As mentioned on to the morning shift tomorrow <boo, hiss, brack, boo>. The time off was productive though. Man I wish you guys could see my front and back yards now. Totally redone and replanted w/ fresh foilage. Groomed and clean. Neighbors have even been coming over to compliment me on the job. Now if I can just keep this damn plant life alive! Neighbor says he uses a fertilizer called Moon Dust which is specifically tailored towards our crumbly, dry AZ soil. He says it works wonders so I guess I'll have to try it out.
Nothing much else I guess. MNF tonight which is always good. What else is going on out there?

My wife got part one of a 2 part film, (chick flick), and was waiting for me to watch it with her. Finally after two weeks I told her that if she didn't send it back we would never get the next movie. She was going to ship it off without watching it, until I reminded her that the next movie on the list is part 2. So she finally watched it last night and I didn't have to sit through it. I played on B&B instead.

Cabbage. Mmmm. Blackeyed peas. Mmmm. I don't hate it, but chicken is something I'm not overly fond of. I much rather beef than chicken, though I'm not one to eat huge slabs of meat in a sitting. I've never been a huge fan of sitting down and eating a big steak. Tonight I made polenta with hot Italian sausage, mushrooms, and onion in a tomato sauce. I much prefer a mix like that (or something like peas or beans with chunks of meat in them over rice) to a slab of steak and a potato.

I haven't been in here much lately. I've been really busy lately and I'm exhausted right now.
I took a nice long walk this afternoon. I left my place just before five and got back around quarter past seven. It's beautiful out tonight. Just cold enough for most people to wear jackets, but still warm enough for me to work up a slight sweat walking uphill in a short-sleeved button down. I love the cold and I'm always considerably warmer than everyone else, for some reason. My girlfriend jokes with me that one of the main reasons she dates me is because I'm really warm.
Whenever I'm away from the computer for most of the day, there's always a bunch of lively, spirited discussion. I wonder if me being here prevents people from posting in here.
Tonight might be a night for a nice cup of green roibos and a book.
Hope everyone is doing well.

As for me I was up at 0 dark thirty for day one of Sheps month-in-hell day shift. This is a special detail at a different office where we just kind of stand by and wait for problems/questions/etc to come our way. So it can be incredibly busy or incredibly boring depending on what's going on. This am I have been like a zombie for lack of sleep last night. You can't change your sleep habits on a dime like that. Topping it off this little office they've got me in is like a freaking meat locker, and I can't feel my extremities! Bringing a coat tomorrow.

my friend, there's not really anything that can be said on an internet forum that will make you feel better or help the situation...as much as I'd love to try and help, there're too many limitations here. You need a support group, family & friends to help you through.
I don't know her, but women tend to be much more sensitive and emotional than men...not always the case, but much higher probability, so the mixed signals seem to be, based on what you've shared already, she wants to move on and has already decided that, but recognizes the cost and knows that it is wrong. perhaps struggling with anxiety, embarrassment, anger, and discontent....just shots in the dark from me. too many variables, & I don't know either of you personally, just kinda going from the situation I've been working with
you've mentioned your faith, so I don't feel reminding you of the life of Joseph is out of order, so many negative, unfair and wrong things to happen in his life, but God was using all these things to put Joseph where He wanted him...this is a bit different, but if you continue to keep perspective and priority in this, trying to do the right thing, I believe God will bless you through it ultimately, but it will quite honestly be hell going through it. I'll keep praying for you, you have all of us here to vent to when you need it.

Ha, it's okay that you don't get it. It was a roundabout way of saying I did the best I could and I'm letting this mistake go. Trust me, it would have driven me nuts before. I just don't have that kind of energy anymore. Maybe it's a sign that my energy should be better spent going forward instead of standing still.

hey shep, give yourself a booty shake or 4...two for reaching 2K (congrats), and 2 for the "anything thread" reaching 1K - and a bonus shake for both on the same day....you know, if I didn't know better, I'd think you planned it that way....
wait, wait, I see it's actually tomorrow now (in my neck of the woods, anyway), so to cover all bases, you reached both milestones within the same 24 hour period!

Hey thanks for the congrats gents. Unfortunately and as mentioned previously, I've not been using the computer that has the gifs lately. I've been slacking in the gif department the past couple weeks. Hard to keep up with all the new guy congrats posts. One of these days I'll make up for lost time.
Well the VOD service with the new Direct TV DVR has a lot to be desired. The viewing selection while fairly numerous, is very much lacking in the "I care" department. Plus which an hour show takes about that long to download. Netflix manages to stream movies real time with little to no lag errors so I don't know why DTV couldn't manage the same. I realize you can start watching before the download is complete, but it's the principle of the thing. The technology exists for them to do better.
It's my son's b-day today. Got him a gift package of CO Bigelow from B&BW. Has a small tube of the cream, a body gel and a body "elixir" whatever that is. Plus a gift card for the store; pretty nice setup. He's been using the DE for a few months now and likes it though he's not as fanatical about shaving as the old man.
All right. What's happening today?

Dear Diary Anything Thread
Today, woke up like the past few days, tired, after not sleeping all the way through the night. Oh well, I'm sure it didn't have anything to do with posting on B&B until the wee hours of the.....ooh, I need to go wee....

then today, there's a bunch to do, but at least I'll be driving by my favorite antique store in a few minutes, maybe there'll be something new! errrr, old, but new....anyway
speaking of antique stores, I need to bother the guys at B&B if they know of any good antique stores between Texarkana and Murfreesboro, AR for the weekend...probably a nada, but you won't know till you ask, right?

Thanks guys. It really does help. Regardless of where you are.
The hardest part is being here alone. I'm far from my family and no one is here in my apartment with me but the dogs.
I'm really sorry to hear the news, Ryan. As the others have said, we're here for you in whatever way we can be on an internet forum. It is difficult being alone at a time like this. Try your best to be active.
