W00t! I'm so glad it arrived for all of y'all. We sent 11 pucks total this round.
Tomorrow will be a big day: three test batches are scheduled. None of them will be scented at this point, but we've gathered a selection of essential oils to work on the sage/lemongrass and possibly some others. It's possible we'll do a bayberry batch, but (a) it's not an essential oil, but rather a fragrance oil, and (b) we don't know the particulars of how the scents affect the lather, so we want to test the recipes first, prior to adding scents.
BTW, during discussions with Mom and Dad tonight, I was reminded of just how dangerously smart my folks are. I mean, yikes. I have to bring my "A" game just to keep up.
Whoa. Time out. You're not getting off that subject that easily. () You can't not tell the story now.

Ant stings (e.g.) hurt because they are formic acid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formic_acid) -- so neutralizing the acid stops the hurt. Yeah, some of the acid gets below the skin, and you shouldn't inject baking soda (or lye!), but the base does help the burn. Better to use ammonia, but we didn't have any of that either!
I guess we also know now where you're not storing the eye bleach. Com'mon man, you're supposed to have some with you at all times.

Dad was doing some chemistry in his head (for the three batches of soap tomorrow) and pointed out something I hadn't thought of regarding the shaving soap; Mom was strategizing about business processes, about selling soap, and about increasing their business with a major customer. They're a great team, and we must have talked about soap for two hours (before, during, and after supper).
It's humbling. At least I can configure their computers, install their new printers, and fix their networking issues.

So after due consideration and consultation in Our Benevolence and desire to maintain peace in the Realm, the following concordat is proposed:
On the side of Gollum/Matt:
He will truthfully renounce all anti-Czarist thoughts, beliefs, plans, ideas, and speech.
He will embrace, whole-heartedly and loyally, the Czar and the Czardom.
He will agree to one month of ankle bracelet monitoring.
He further agrees to the codicil proposed by the MCP (and hereby ratified by the Czar) as posted below.
On the side of the Czar, upon acceptance of the above terms:
He will grant Gollum release from the Royal Dungeon (with the exception of the ankle bracelet).
He will intercede with the Mods for a new custom title for Gollum
He will appoint Gollum to the post of Court Jester
Any deception or violation of these terms on the part of Gollum will result in immediate re-imprisonment with the possibility of capital punishment or eternal exile attached.
To accept these terms, Gollum shall quote this post in its unmodified entirety and truthfully and sincerely post "I agree and accept all of the above."

No, I never mentioned that. And, he's doing a good enough job on his own in that regard. Sometimes, it just takes the mods a while to sort through all the good fodder and pick the best one. It's been known to happen that something from 6 mo. earlier, about which you have forgotten, suddenly comes back to haunt.

my dad is like that playing dominoes....after the first round, he puts the rest of his dominoes in the order in which he'll play them and get the most points, block the other teams moves, and almost always go out first. The only time he has to change up his plan is when someone (usually me) makes an unorthodox move

There should be something in there requiring him to recognize court jester is the lowest office in the czardom and that he is significantly lower than all other officials, especially governors and quick witted lyrical masters.
Additionally, he should promise not to learn how to spell or use grammar properly because that would take away all of his good material. I mean, let's face it, nothing he says is funny otherwise.
That's my $.02 on the matter. Additionally, I'd like to welcome him back to the fold. He's got to be good for something.:thumbup1: There's #3, buddy! Oh wait there's 4! :w00t:

Before I sign anything, I have a few questions regarding the terms. First, seeing as you have edited the contract once already at the suggestion of the MCP, is this contract going to be altered further after I have signed or are both parties bound to the contract as it stands? Second, though this would make me the lowest person on the Czarist totem pole, can I still tease other members of the court, with the exception of the Czar himself as he's the boss and is therefore untouchable? And third what happens you can not get my title changed?

a) once signed, the concordat is unalterable without bilateral agreement
b) you can tease other members of the Czardom with the exception of the Czar himself, but do so at your own risk.
c) there is no iron-clad promise of a title change. I can only intercede on your behalf. If the mods are unwilling, I have tried my best, but you are bound by their decision in that matter.

#10 and #11 are unscented; and #12 may not have scent either. It's nice to experiment with scents, but the company is still focusing on improving the lather. Clearly everyone wants a scented soap, but while we're testing, it's less important to get the scent right. The lime was a great test (and pretty close to the mark, if most of you are correct), but we're still going to mess around with the recipes some. More glycerin here, less stearic acid there, maybe a wildcard for #12...it's still in flux.
Please keep the comments coming. The emails have been so helpful in helping us figure out what works and what doesn't!

I am sure the scents are a lot more expense for experimentation.

Crap! Back to 5... Are we ignoring 7 now? What about 3.14?
I've always wondered how, if at all, the addition of EO/FO alters the shave itself. I suppose the answer would affect the testing process in the end, as well. I can tell you that 9 struck me as a much softer soap -- particularly after it was soaked -- than 5. Closer to tabac or MWF after a soak than, say, C&E or Pens in that regard. No conclusion on whether that's better or worse yet -- just different. (I figure it'd be best to withhold the bulk of my developing thoughts, lest they sway other testers at this point.)
Not that you're seeking scent suggestions, but I've always thought that an Alt Innsbruck-scented soap would be a great seller. Nothing like it exists at present -- which surprises me, as it's a single note -- Nicotinum tabacum EO.

Indeed! That's why we're going to be careful about adding scents, since they are oils and therefore get saponified, at least partially. I think it was a good move to let folks know that we know that unscented shave soap isn't an ideal product for most of us, but I think it's prudent to be cautious about the scents at present.

Actually, since Dad's field is thermodynamics and fluid dynamics (er, when he's not making soap), his favorite sub-atomic creature is Maxwell's demon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxwell%27s_demon). One weekend (I swear I am not making this up) we built a passive heat-pipe to cool a 40-watt Pentium III; since it was unpowered yet moved heat around, we figured we were cheating entropy at least a little, just like Maxwell's demon.

It's not just you. I tried changing the color on some text maybe two or three days ago on here, and just got that white box you're talking about. So your guess is as good as mine as to what is going on with that.

Same problem here. The font size and color dropdowns have been wonky for a couple of weeks now. Thanks for confirming that it's not just my machine (I run chrome, so I often think that a site problem may be due to that, as opposed to more widespread.)

Good question. How exactly does succession work in a dictatorship?
And does anyone want to take a chance on being the next one assassinated by unknown forces?
And isn't the head man usually the one taken out first in a coup?
Will Marilyn turn out to really be pregnant, or is it just a clever ploy to get Biff's money?

An excellent set of questions regarding our missing Vice Czar... I have had email, but I too am becoming concerned (no joke). Very odd that he'd be bascially incommunicado for 3 wks running.
Ian, in case you're reading, I think it's time for a home visit... anybody else near Winnipeg willing to take a road trip?
As for the line of succession, I suppose that remains to be seen. Let's not panic just yet. But, I suppose it would be either Jesse or Cory next in line. But, Cory's disqualified until he posts some more house pictures.

Thought for the day: I apparently own seven bags of sunflower seeds. Seven. I do not have a logical explanation for this, I'm afraid.

You've arrived?!
Yep. Got the key to the house today and everything. Stupid driveway is too steep for the moving van (*scraaaaaaape*) so the unmovers have their work cut out for them.
And me moving into the new house overshadows the other fantastic thing that happened today: lunch in Texarkana.
I was privileged to dine with three fellow B&Bers today: Richmondesi, Profsaffel, and Sol92258 (Paul, Doug, and Jim). Micah couldn't make it, which was unfortunate, but the four of us had a great time.
Doug gets the nod as "most fiendishly clever" because he walked in, looked at us (not having a clue whether we were the B&Bers or not), and then rubbed his face as though he had just finished shaving. Paul and I laughed, and thus he knew it was us.
I had been driving for over six hours at that point (with three and a half left to go), and the relaxed lunch hour was an outstanding break. Good food, "new" friends, and shaving jokes. Truly a mountaintop moment.

Yes, a good time was had by all. I didn't know what to expect but I was well pleased that the nice fellows that I 'knew' here on B&B were just as friendly and entertaining in person.

That was a blast. My wife can't believe I took off and met with "internet friends", but hey....I'm still here - I think?
Doug, I forgot to tell you just now, you had a great idea for the stick, and I added to it....don't know how I forgot - oh yeah, that's right, you're wife's cries of glory for getting on facebook again...

I just tested the lime formula... WOW! I got the lather to explode so nicely I wanted to post pics for the latherphiles among us. It was super slick and exactly the consistency of yogurt. It was really nice. It smelled great (nice and strong) @ first, but it mellowed out (more than I would expect for the strength of the original scent). I think I may just do a full month of Limegust after all

Glad the gathering went well yesterday, guys. Jesse, it must feel great to be in your new home (albeit full of boxes ).
Today: Packing the office. And possibly the consumption of some sunflower seeds. (And yeah, Jim, two of my packs are open, as well.).

I love sunflower seeds. I am afraid of what we would find if we packed up all of our things. Probably Navy Flight 19.

This is worrisome, indeed. I had considered the vice-czar (not to mention mod thirdeye) a fixture around here, and both are virtually non-existent of late (Ray is around, but not nearly to the extent he used to be). The whole feel of the forum is diffrerent without those two popping up everywhere I look!
On the other hand, if this goes on for another week or so, the Grand High Exalted Mystic Ruler, His Royal Cheesieness, the Czar, will likely pass RPC, and achieve the highest non-mod post-count (although I noticed that Slagle is also hot on His heels.)
