The way I look at it, anything that doesn't kill you is a great story later on.

 Definitely. Just finished replacing the glass. Bought the last three doors for the great interior door replacement I'm undertaking. 70's-era builder grade slab doors, begone! Really makes the house look less dated, which is nice since it'll be on the market soon. Wish I would've replaced the doors sooner, though.

How'd the kayak gunshot wound repair turn out?

It looks pretty good to me. Mrs. Blackfoot wants me to try and add more from the inside. It probably isn't a bad idea, but it is not going to be easy to reach up in there.

Sadly, no, though things do seem to have leveled off. Fortunately, we got in about a year before prices hit their peak, so we'll pretty well break even, which is better than many folks can say these days. Would've been better than that, were it not for the foreclosure two doors down.

Yeah... I traded my MWF to someone. It worked but didn't impress me. Ever sense then I have been wanting some back. May yet put an order in for more. However, I already have years worth of soaps that I may never get through as it is...

I just got home after going out with co-workers. Most of them were no-shows so it was just me and one other for a couple of hours. Now my wife is teasing me about being out on a date. Oh well, at least she is taking it good natured.

Did you take a course before the exam or just try to memorize some books?

I did the A+ exam about four years(?) ago, before they changed it anyway. The software exam was easy, I scored about 90%, but the hardware exam kind of sucked... I memorized the clock speed, core voltage, pin count, etc. etc., for literally every CPU since the ENIAC and they still managed to stump me on a few. One of the questions was even "what's the safest place to store your laptop when you're away from your desk?" Argh... Still, it's fun to whip the card out every now and then and I'm proud of achieving that goal.

I've got some books, actually going through a LearnKey test prep course. I feel pretty confident, but, as I said before, 10+ years of no tests has me a little anxious.
Almost everything the material has covered I'm familiar with and can do, but using the "official" terms is what will probably get me.

Just think of it as a project with a short deadline instead of a test. One thing you have going for you is that it's multiple choice.

I picked up a lot of mnemonic devices to remember things. For the seven layers of the OSI model it's Application, Presentation, Session, Transport, Network, Datalink, Physical. I can tell you what someone told me to help remember it, but it's bad enough that I'd have to PM you with it. It did stick though, five years and I still haven't forgotten.

For laser printers it's clean, charge, write, develop, transfer, fuse. Or "careful computer weenies don't trade files".

PCMCIA... people can't memorize computer industry acronyms. No, wait, that's not right.

Well, you get the idea.

Oh, I can beat that so easily.... 9/100 in Finite Mathematics.

I don't know what happened to me in that course but I could not learn the material. I did well on the first two tests (100% & 90%), but the last two got progressively worse. Anyway, there was an error on the midterm that made one of the questions impossible to answer so the teacher gave us a second drop test. Since there were only four tests in the entire term, my average test score skyrocketed to 95%. On the final test, which I did try my best to do well on but knew I hadn't, I wrote in big letters "I have failed this test".

We had a rough last week, as my little 1-year-old girl had the Flu -- as in, "likely the H1N1 flu" since her doc said there are no/few other active flu strains at present. As happens to little ones, she picked it up at daycare. Yikes. Her symptoms were thankfully mild and though she's still dealing with a cough & runny nose (and, to add insult to injury, cutting her top two incisors), she's clearly much better, and her spirit is undimmed.

I was sick, too, but mainly a sinus infection and a little low-grade bronchitis.

Neither of us are contagious anymore, for sure.

Welcome to Texas, SB!

As far as Rome goes... well  I made it ok without my lecture notes and such. I pretty much just went off the top of the ol' noggin. It came out ok, thankfully. It's a topic I have a pretty good hold on. Had it been the Gupta Mauryan Empire or such, I'd been screwed.

What am I saying? It's college. I could have just dismissed class after spending 20 minutes talking about bow making or something. I've certainly taken worst classes.

Good night,

'tis true. Gossypium barbadense and not Gossypium hirsutum?

My wife always insist I stop at a cotton field, at least once a year, so that she can get a boll of cotton to take home. And don't even get her started on how wonderful a cotton gin in operation smells (not the engine, but the smell of the cotton)!

Also, both produce long staple. Gossypium hirsutum grows pretty much everywhere. Gossypium barbadense is the good stuff; producing fibers long enough to spin Egyptian Cotton, linen, lace, and the sort. It also smells better in the field because of the giant yellow flowers.
