Speaking of Texas... what do you guys think about the imbecile Plano police officer that kept Ryan Moates from getting to see his mother-in-law before she died.

Moates ran a stoplight late at night, after stopping to make sure no one was coming, because his mother-in-law was literally seconds away from death. That was tragic stuff. :frown:

I just read that story. The officer is on administrative leave while his police chief decides what to do with him. That officer exhibited very poor form in my opinion.

that is sad, but at the same time, how does the officer know that for sure? People come up with all kinds of excuses when caught doing something wrong. I hate it for him, but he did break the law, the officer has the responsibility to uphold the law, etc etc....
have to consider it from both angles, I don't think anything should be done to the officer in question

Normally, I would agree with you, but I saw the video. They ran a stop light to run into a hospital. My first thought would have been that someone must need urgent medical care. However, they are clearly trying to communicate that they are trying to reach their dying relative.

THEN, another cop (with a nurse) came out to let this guy know that they were telling the truth. His response... "I'm almost done here." That is a Barney Fife cop that needed to be educated at what his real role in society is.

I normally side with the police on this stuff. Having no knowledge of the incident other than your statement, your case appears to be sound. But remember human's capacity for evil. I have had a woman screaming at me threatening to have my job because I was hindering her from getting to her dying aunt that had been rushed to the hospital. When I finally met up with her a half hour later, her aunt was just walking into the emergency room (not from an ambulance) and asked to get checked in because she had a COLD!
This is not, by any stretch, an isolated incident. I have more stories like this than I can remember. Barely a week goes by when someone isn't going to have my jb for one asinine reason or another. In our lines of work, you tend to assume everyone is lying to you and are correct 95% of the time. Living in that kind of environment, it is easy to get overly obstinate and lose grip on the more important things. Not that this justifies such behavior. But it hopefully helps you understand it a bit more. We all have to get slapped back into focus from time to time. :001_rolle

no, I haven't seen the video, or read detailed accounts, my opinion is based basically on headlines and brief synopsis; from that I side with the officer, but the evidence you mention sounds overwhelming, but not enough to threaten the employment or cause backlash against the officer

That is the really sad part. Every time I take pity on someone and buy their story, I get kicked in the jowls. When you get burned like this, repeatedly, it hardens your resolve that everyone around you are lying scumbags. You want to be human, or at least I do. You just can't.

And no, I am actually a security officer at a somewhat large hospital. It isn't what you think of when you think security, though. I get into more physical altercations than most LEO except for bigger cities. In fact, the idea has been mentioned of making us certified LEO. My father was a police officer, however. I also used to serve as a volunteer firefighter.

he started off here, but got banned...can't remember exactly what for (the first time....thereafter he was just having fun)
same username, mostly in this thread, you can get an idea for how crazy he could be.
last month he started having some dizzy spells and side pains, ended up having a blood clot and going to the hospital. From there I could tell he got some really bad news from the docs by the dramatic change in his posts.
It's never a good day to hear news like that, but at least he got a chance, for a few weeks at least, to really make quality time with his family, especially his grandkids that he wasn't allowed to see until a few months ago because of his drinking and "smoking". He quit the first several months ago, right here in this thread, but only just quit the other not long ago.

Jim, thanks for letting us know about Rolls. The comments about his last few months are so wonderfully encouraging in light of this difficult news. I'm honored to have known him, and to have joined you and so many others in encouraging him in his fight against addiction -- a fight he no doubt won thanks more to his beautifully indefatigable spirit than to any meager words we posted. For this and many lighter moments, I'll remember him quite fondly. If you get a chance, please pass along my condolences to Jason and to the folks at TSD who've had the honor of calling Rolls a friend.

Here is a legitimate question and I don't feel like posting a whole thread on it unless it is that big of a topic. Where do the emoticons/smileys come from and how do you go about getting a new one? I have an idea for one but have no idea how to go about it.

Generally, they're part of packs that can be added into the vBulletin software. I do know it's possible to add extras, however. I think you just have to find one the mods love and suggest it in the feedback section.

What has happened is we have gotten to the end of the website. Most of it has been read, answered, asked and re-asked so many times that it has become somewhat dull. That is why this thread is so popular.

So what do you think of Feathers?
Should I get a slant?
Aqua Velva does taste bad (you can trust me, I took a swig for the team)
Merkur blades-no?
How many razors do you have in rotation.
English leather rocks!

The game was more one sided than the score reflected. But you are right Grossman was garbage. Though Cutler hasn't been overly outstanding in Denver either. To be honest I'm a big fan of Brian Urlacher though, I'd like to see him nail down a Lombardi before retirement (as long as it doesn't come at the expense of Peyton Manning and the Colts).

I totally disagree with the game being more one sided than the score reflected. If not for that interception returned for a touchdown, the Bears probably would have won. They didn't have a good offensive game, but our D was very tough... Cutler passed for 4500 yrds without much talent around him and NO defense. He's 12-1 when the Denver defense kept opponents under 21 points... His professional record (win/loss) is not an accurate portrayal of his performance in the league.
