My favorite... well, maybe. There are so many good lines.
And I've never seen or heard of anyone using anything other than 'syllabi', whether or not other versions are correct. :001_smile
Now, as far as the convo about mollusks or whatever :confused1, I have NO idea what's going on there.

Me too -- I'll allow that "indexes" and "indices" could both be correct (though I prefer the latter -- see also "codexes and "codices"), but I've not heard "syllabuses" except in colloquial conversation.
Though, if students are turning in papers in l33tspeak and OMG TXTSPK, such minutiae are nothing but an intellectual exercise.

Sad but true (more text than l33t, and thankfully only rarely in the formal research papers -- so far). One syllabus completed yesterday. One to go.
Who watched the game last night? Good to see an SEC team win. Plus, it was generally good football -- two excellent teams.

Two nights ago, I shaved for the first time in about four days. It was awful. Can you say werewolf? I last shaved yesterday morning, so I'm due for another shave. Today was one of those days. Seems like it was for everyone. Hopefully, tomorrow is better. Today was cold and dreary in Boston. The weather never used to affect me like this. Oh well.
I think I'll wake up a little bit early and pamper myself tomorrow.
Goodnight all. Here's to a better tomorrow.

You screwballs went and exceeded my challenge by nearly 50 posts!! Good job!! I see the chocolate subject has come up again. I happen to be a borderline chocoholic, and have spent as much on a single box of chocolates as many people make in a forty hour week. I can say, with no reservations, that the famed italian chocolate maker "Amedei" has the finest chocolate in the world. Google the name and look up location near you where you can get thier fine chocolates.

We have practically every one of those trains, most of the non-trains, several playsets, duplicates and in one case triplicates of some trains, and that's just the metal ones. On a completely unrelated note (well, truthfully, I think the notes might be 3rd cousins, twice removed) Bossman told me to put linux on a couple of comps in our old-n-busted-computer lab and "see what obstacles we encounter."
Yay linux! He seemed fairly impressed with OOoo, and now were looking at affordable ways to breath a little life into some played out systems.

do expel...they handed the Ravens their tails all game, but continually shot themselves in the foot
and that blown ref call was killer
but they shoulda had a 21 point lead anyway, can only blame themselves
but that rookie QB at Baltimore was pretty impressive, though

Texas has the nation's largest, well organized, and well funded academic competition organization on the planet. I coach Current Issues and Events as well as Social Studies.
My teams rocked yesterday, taking first in both events and racking up individual places as well. It was just a practice meet, but it bodes well for the future.

Well, it started off a Saturday morning like all Saturday mornings in mid-November - getting up early, getting warm clothes on, hoppin' in the truck and walking with dad down to the ol' deerstand. Climbed up the stand and sat, and waited. Sunlight finally broke. I could start seeing shapes in the trees. Hmmm, shapes...Lindsey had a great shape...so did Karen....ahhh, Kare...what was that? A snap. A shuffle of leaves. Slowly I turned (step by step, inch by inch)...just a squirrel. Wait, another shuffle....some birds, hopping around. And yet another sound...747 flying overhead. More waiting. Temptation to break out the contraband Gameboy was mounting, afterall, it had been a full 45 minutes by now...then, a rattle, almost like the sound of...yes, it was! Two bucks, having a little my_horns_are_bigger_than_your_horns competition...alright, Jimbo, settle down, just because Dad's never gotten two in one trip doesn't mean you can't...settle down. Okay, ready to go. *Click* goes the safety...the rattles stop - did I scare them off, where are they? Ah, found them, they're looking in my general direction, but below me. They're standing about 30 yards away, I should be able to get them, but I'd feel better around 20-25 yards, but they're moving diagonally, getting slightly closer, but going behind my stand...should I wait and hope they come back? No chance I'm waiting, I'm 11 years old and by golly I'm getting one this year, I don't have forever to wait you know....pick out the one with the better rack...no, more meat...no, the rack stupid...dummy, you can't heat the antlers!....ah, screw it, which one's closer? Okay, got him, hey they're coming back this way a little...wait? No way Jose...*POW* and thus cacked the 20 guage...one deer takes off, one starts looking back my way...why is he just standing there, and where'd my deer go? Quick, reload! Reload! Stupid gloves, I can't manipulate the shell, oh well, guess I'll pick it up off the ground now when I get down there :blushing:.
Second deer is long gone by now (note to self: next time, bring the double barrel or rifle)(note to reader: 21 years later, haven't had same situation come up again)(note to self: it's probably okay to take the 20 guage again)(note to reader: know my luck, I'll see this scenario arise again, but only when I take the 20 g.)
Okay, now to find the buck...I look in the direction the deer ran...pick a few landmarks to follow, get ready to climb down...wait, there's my dad, asking me the question with his look...I raise my hands in the "touchdown" signal! Dad cheers. (I later discovered he thought I meant huge rack...no, I was thinking of Lindsey and Karen before the deer showed up)
Down I go, off the stand, and off in the general direction, didn't take long, he only made it about 20 yards, but my attention turned to the second buck at that moment or I would've noticed. Nice 7 point, good eatin', free cap at the local newspaper...good day.

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said "Fresh" and there were dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare but I thought, naw, forget it, yo holmes to Bel-Air. I pulled up to the house about seven or eight and said to the cabbie "Yo holmes smell ya later." “We could say that meditation doesn't have a reason or doesn't have a purpose. In this respect it's unlike almost all other things we do except perhaps making music and dancing. When we make music we don't do it in order to reach a certain point, such as the end of the composition. If that were the purpose of music then obviously the fastest players would be the best. Also, when we are dancing we are not aiming to arrive at a particular place on the floor as in a journey. When we dance, the journey itself is the point, as when we play music the playing itself is the point. And exactly the same thing is true in meditation. Meditation is the discovery that my mom got scared, and said, "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air." I whistled for a cab and when it came near The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought, "Nah, forget it. Yo, holmes to Bel-Air!" I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 and I yelled to the cabbie, "Yo holmes smell ya later!" Looked at my kingdom I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air.” --Gautama Siddharta

Do you find his advice faulty? I always thought the guy was a pretty decent photog, and he makes some darn nice guides to cameras.
Some of his advice is useful, if somewhat self-opinionated, and certain things he says needs to be taken with a very large pinch of salt. He does say on the site on his 'About' page that a good BS detector is needed for some of his comments. Having said that I found his guide to the Nikon D200 to be very useful.

No doubt. Of course, find a "Pro" photographer that isn't self-opinionated... Yeah, I've noticed that some of his opinions definitely go against "conventional wisdom" occasionally, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I tend to agree at least partially with some of his more controversial views (ie. colour managment is for wimps (http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/color-management/is-for-wimps.htm)). I think he does a pretty good balancing act between professional photo advice and layperson/hobbyist advice... that's got to be a hard line to walk.

I'd go for the non-anthropomorphic robot. Robots -- most of them -- don't look like humans. How about a bomb-disposal robot? Still cool, but don't look like a person. Or are bomb disposal robots that too morbid for 5 year olds?

Wow, Jim. I did this with my niece last year. Unlike many of her classmates, Emilee's robot could move. I made a body out of PVC pipe, plugged in two LCD lights for eyes, mounted it on a styrofoam board, and took the bottom half of a remote controlled truck for the wheels and power to the eyes. When you flipped the switch, it moved forward and the eyes came on. :thumbup1:

Then bam! 0 visibility for the next two blocks and can't get in my parking spot.
The snow is now over the dog. Does she care... nope. I on the other hand have frozen feet and legs from waiting for her to go to the bathroom and quit jumping through the snow.

Honestly... I have never shot myself in the foot. Now when I was a little kid I did hit my foot with an axe and on another occasion run a pitch fork into my foot. But that was just childhood fun.
I don't know how old I was... Maybe 5-6 for the axe and maybe 7-8 for the pitchfork. I was young, we lived on a farm in Wisconsin. I had a lot of unsupervised time. I tried to do things that I wasn't quite capable of at the time. And yet, I still have never officially broken a bone.

That is only partially a true statement. Bicycles have been used by military members but after a trial in the United States to possibly use the bicycle to replace the horse it was determined that the benefits of bicycles as a military vehicle were minimal on a large scale.

I did that once a couple years ago. After 15 minutes in the express line the cashier was still working on the customer that was there when I joined the line. Counting the six other people between me and that customer I decided that I didn't have another hour and a half to wait.
I was in and out of the next grocery store down the street in 15 minutes.

I ended up calling the manager, who was short with me, then the district manager. I received an appropriately apologetic phone call this morning, and am moving on (their computer modeling doesn't account for inaugurations ). As I reflected on the situation last night, I realized that the greater issue is food safety. That store definitely sells plenty of stuff that shouldn't sit in carts for 45 minutes!

I have no idea what you're talking about...
Wonder how incomprehensible this thread would get if we added a game of bingo between the cryptic chess moves?... D4...B12...
who, a BINGO game in the middle of the chess game...sounds confusing - it fits the thread!

You see, I could go two ways here: On a serious note, I think you'll find that all of the TAT regulars post in lots of threads. On a humorous note, there are other threads?
Which way will I go?...Oh look, squirrels eating pi! :w00t:

You mean there are other threads here? I thought The Barbershop was the only actual forum here. The rest were for shaving obsessed weirdos!

I think you'll also find that much of the "one-liner" posts are located here, as opposed to other threads where they'd be more distraction than benefit.
I do spend much time in here, it's bit of a stress relief, kind of a shave lounge to just kick off the shoes and let loose. This way my posts in other threads (what are those, again?) are more direct and concise, and I can bring (most) of my humor here.
I think the wise and intelligent mods realize this and like this thread for it's "catch-all" of random quips so they're not spread out all over the boards...
oh, and Linux PI!

About 30 or so miles Northwest of Houston.

I could have Houston as my location (due to sprawl) but technically I'm in Tomball. Tomball is next to Spring, Cypress, and Magnolia if that helps
