Too much guava paste and cheese.
Guava Pie
INGREDIENTS:
3 tablespoons flour
2/3 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
Pastry for a 9-inch 2-crust pie
4 cups Florida guava, peeled, seeded and sliced
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon lemon juice
3 tablespoons cold butter, cut in small pieces
PREPARATION:
Mix together the flour, sugar, and salt; set aside. Line a 9-inch pie plate with pastry; fill with sliced guava, slightly mounding in the center. Sprinkle the flour and sugar mixture evenly over the guavas.
Sprinkle with the lemon juice and dot with butter. Cover with the top pastry and flute edge. Cut several vents into top crust to let steam escape. Bake in a preheated 450° oven for 10 minutes, then reduce to 350° and bake 30 to 40 minutes longer.

In the spirit of our new title, I suppose someone should post a recipe... so here goes-- this recipe should cleanse the body wholly, even going so far as to remove all cravings, and possibly signs of life.
1 cup Gasoline
1 cup bleach
2 tbls Borax
3 tsp Starbucks coffee
1/2 cup antifreeze for colour (Adjust to your tastes)
2 green olives, pitted.
Strain above ingredients through used jock-strap into bedpan. Place pan in microwave and heat on high for 2 minutes while staring intently. Repeat all steps until you don't survive the blast.

Ok, it's obviously time to start a story-o-round. Here's the basic idea, I'll start a story, and stop in the middle of a sentence. The next guy picks up in the middle of that sentence and continues for a while, again, ending in the middle of a sentence. Let's see what happens to our protagonist:
Mercilessly, the sun splintered through the cracked mini-blinds peircing the thin eyelids of Jasper Milton as he lay waking from a half-night's slumber, if you could really call it that. He hadn't had a decent night's sleep in weeks. He slowly rolled out of the bed, and headed for the bathroom. Wincing as the light from above the mirror tried to blind him, he began his morning rituals. Having finished answering nature's call, he quickly washed his hands and brushed his teeth, remembering the voice of his dental hygenist lecturing him about proper mouth-care.
Jasper stared at the haggard face of the man in the mirror. This was a man who obviously needed a shave. He tested his hypothesis by stroking his own cheek and listening to the scratching noises made when he went against the grain. His face brightened, "Ahhh, this will be a good shave," he thought to himself as he reached for his weapons of choice. He looked at his arsenal, and decided that today he would perform his de-fleecing with the rather unorthodox method of shaving with

Jasper had only found this shiv last week from a new prisoner named Howard and was surprised at how little effort it took to get the makeshift weapon up to shaving snuff. It made Jasper stop and wonder if Howard developed such profound skill sharpening knives while he was

his 10 inch Bowie knife which he liked to hone to a razor's edge on his 8,000 grit Norton. Honing the knife was a well enjoyed outlet for his obsessive compulsive disorder which seemed to have gotten worse after his honorable discharge from 20 years of service with the Navy Seals. "Man, this is a far cry from the mountains of Afghanistan," thought Jasper as he whipped up a nice creamy lather of 1805 with his SR 3124. Even though he was now able to enjoy some of the finer things in life, Jasper missed the excitement of covert ops with the Seals. Perhaps thats why he liked shaving with the Bowie knife on occassion. It offered a little excitement over the usual DE or straight. Mid-stroke on the final AGT pass, Jasper hears a window break........

you know what's funny, I'd been saving that pic for awhile, hoping the "shortest thread" (Waldo) would show back up.
then I noticed, I'm getting awfully close to the 1600 post mark, so I decided make it memorable with this thread
after posting, I went to check my post count...ahhhh, 160....what the hey? 1694?!?!?!
so I did a search, and Waldo wondered home...we knew he was at the Olympics watching beach volleyball, so it took him awhile to get back
the whole point of this post is the fact that, originally started to make 1600, 6 posts later I'm making 1700....only on B&B can math be irrational, and illogical :biggrin1:

Anybody else noticing the topics and conversations are waning here as we start the new school and fiscal year? Man, just a few weeks ago every 10 mins. or so there was a whole round of new threads and posts to enjoy. I guess everybody is busy now and the lazy days of summer are over.
So this is the anything thread. Anything that amuses, strikes you, peeves you, inspires you, gets your motor running or not throw it out there. Anything under the sun is acceptable (keeping w/in B&B terms of course) except politics and the upcoming election. There are already like six threads on that, and I'm staying away from them all both for personal and professional reasons. Other than that please participate because I'm bored out of my skull and you's all are supposed to keep me entertained! So, to kick things off:
A rant :incazzato: I just got a call from my wife about how funny my daughters' car is driving today. Turns out she had two flats recently (a sub-rant w/in the overall rant as this car is less than one year old and already w/ the freakin' flats!). Apparently she went to a fly-by-night outfit and bought two different sized used tires to replace them. So she's driving around w/ three sized tires on the thing like some kind of funny car. I'll be lucky if the alignment is all that's hosed. AAARRRGGHHH!!!
A smile :001_smile: Every night when I get home it's a battle between the three year old and the dog who is happier to see me. Either way, I'm a winner.
Satisfaction :biggrin1:: A great shave this morning using TOBS Eton College (thanks Shawn). I've been faceturbating all day long.
Happiness :cornut:: Regular season NFL kicks off next week.
Sadness :crying:: No more HBO's Inside the NFL.
That's good for now. Next.

There are limitless combinations that I love. A grilled sharp cheddar on crusty bread dipped into some hearty chili is a favorite of mine in the fall. I'm really pissed at my boss.
I have to work 4 hours, half a shift, on Labor Day, plus I get 8 hours of Holiday Pay. I asked him if I could just take Monday off, and he said NO.
I have a really long drive to get to work. About 2.5 hours round-trip, plus it costs me around $10/day in gasoline, plus Starbucks coffee on the way, plus I need cigarettes to get me through the day, etc. On a 4-hour shift, I will probably be losing money, instead of making it ... plus I have to bust my ass working.
So I just wanted to stay home, get a 3-day weekend out of it, get my 8-hours of Holiday Pay, and draw a normal pay-check.
But, Nooooooo ... he insists that I drive 2.5 hours, just to work a 4-hour shift and fork out $10 for gas and lunch and so forth. .. he says he really needs me there. BULL!! There are around 8 of us on this crew, and if one person doesn't show up, the job still gets done.
On top of that, my favorite nightclub is throwing their biggest party of the year Sunday night, and I wanted to go out and have a good time drinking and dancing right up to closing time at 2am. BUT ... I have to leave for work at 3am. So not only am I getting screwed money-wise by having to work on Monday, it puts a damper on my whole weekend.
If that's not bad enough ... the company is sponsoring a Stress Management Class next Thursday, and I wanted to attend. The boss said NO. Nobody from our crew is allowed to go. (The company sponsors a lot of classes, and we get brownie points for attending, which count towards promotion.)
My boss is a mean, mean man. A very mean man. If I had magic powers like that creepy little kid (Billy Mumy) on Twilight Zone, I'd wish him into the cornfield right now.

Well I've been a bit of a jerk about political threads on the forum. They tend to devolve. I started that thread on good faith. If it goes too sour, I have full confidence that the mods will lock it.
One of many reasons I am abstaining from them all. I just thought the title was kind of funny. I have a picture in my head of 72 yr. old McCain well, er, you know...with his younger, better looking VP pick.

There are limitless combinations that I love. A grilled sharp cheddar on crusty bread dipped into some hearty chili is a favorite of mine in the fall. I also love a turkey and swiss with mustard and mayo served on rye with some delicious beef barley. But I am a bit of a purist and I can always go back to "ol' reliable": Grilled american on white with cream of tomato soup.

Washed down with a diet Coke. I can't help it. I love the taste of that stuff, and I don't care how bad it is for me. And the diet part has nothing to do w/ saving calories or anything else. Regular coke is a little too harsh for me. The diet tastes juuuuuuust right. Yeah baby!

Also working through Monday, but I'm digging it because my wife and I have officially started shopping for our first house. In a word, awesome. 12 hours of double time and a half on Monday will certainly help towards our cause. Oh...wait a minute...Uncle Sam will surely take his wet bite out of that overtime.
What else...I suppose I'll also touch on football season. I'm on the opposite end of this spectrum. I don't hate football, but I'm so dis-interested in it, that I wish it would just go away. Football in America is in-escapable. Period. It comes up in every conversation and when you're the antithesis of the average fan, well, it leaves many conversations lacking. It also doesn't help when your entire office freaks out because it's Football Season, BABY! To add to it, I live on the Cheddar Curtain's western perimeter and work just west of the official border in Minnesota. So now not only is every conversation in the office swirling around football, but toss in a little (read: a lot) Minnesota Vikings/Green Bay Packers rivalry. It's exhausting!
Wanna hear something strange? Last week I bought a new Nalgene bottle with a flip top and as a result of really liking the bottle, I've been consistantly drinking between 60-80oz. of water a day. The strange part is that I feel noticeably dehydrated, but my mind feels sharper here at work.

Car companies and some of the names they choose for their models makes you wonder what they were thinking.
Kia's latest SUV is the latest one. The Borrego. In Spanish
Borrego=Lamb. An SUV called The Lamb? Who would want that.
I read somewhere that pirates used to wear eyepatches to strengthen their site for better navigation at night, not because of blindness or having one eye etc.

When my ship would pull into France back during my Navy days there were several street vendors who sold what we called a smashed sandwich, both because how it was made and because we generally purchased them after a good drunk. Essentially they grilled up thin pieces of some kind of steak meat with onions, peppers and oil. At the same time they deep fried a batch of steak fries. The fries and steak were stuffed in a length of french bread with some fromage. Then the whole thing was smashed flat and cooked in a waffle iron until crispy. My God that was one good sandwich. No soup, but it's such a great memory thought I'd share.

It's upsetting. When I started that thread, it was in the hope that it wouldn't circle the drain of vulgarity, and lo and behold, it's doing just that. It's ironic, really, that the topics of politics and religion, two systems that separate men from animals tend to make animals out of men.
Lesson learned.

Not your fault friend human nature being what it is. Sometimes we just step in 'it'. It seems to have toned down since Joels tongue lashing, but I predict later tonight or tommorow it will hit the wall.
Now, in keeping w/ our food topic tonights dinner is abondigas, rice w/ vegetables and refried beans. Abondigas are Mexican meatballs with rice and egg cooked up in a red chili sauce for a touch of fire. My mother in laws recipe all the way from Mexico City. Yummmmmmy!
And if I get off work in time, we are going to take a drive over to Sprouts market to look for the Toms and KMF shave creams I'm told are sold there. I find the purchase of shave stuff to be oddly calming and happiness-inducing. Is that a problem?

This is really lousy news for the folks along the Gulf coast. I deployed to New Orleans during the aftermath of Katrina as part of an LE support effort. I have never seen that level of devastation. It looked like the set of a Hollywood disaster movie to me as my mind could barely comprehend that reality. Only when we flew over the city in the BlackHawks did I fully understand the scope of what had happened. I hope they are spared that grief this time. Good luck to you all.

If you think that's bad, you should go to "The last great president" thread. More of the usual suspects saying the usual things. It makes me wonder why they're even here. I'd like to see Joel to do that thread what he did to the McCain/Palin thread I started because it's painfully obvious that no one can talk about a delicate topic anymore without resorting to acting like a 10 year old about it.

"The Anything Thread"? Really? How Anarchistic! But OK, here it goes.
Friday, June 27th 2008. One of the greatest days in American Legal history!
"The Supreme Court struck down the District of Columbia's ban on handgun possession yesterday and decided for the first time in the nation's history that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual's right to own a gun for self-defense." Quoted from the Washington Post.
The debate is officially over. It is not a collective right to own a firearm, it is an individual's right! What was the response of the media and all political parties to this ruling? A deafening silence! It is just so sad.
