I mean, no, no, when I get raptured, I want all of you to come, too. I know there are other believers here. I also thought today of the verse in Matthew that you quoted today, Garry, and knew that today would definitley NOT be the day of rapture. :thumbup1:

Good news out of Manitoba....

RPC reports that the dam breach is probably going to be closed sometime this afternoon. He hopes to be back home in about a week. So far, things look much better than expected on the damage-to-property front.

Ah fair enough. It's easy to understand how it's a much bigger deal over here than over there. The amount of money gone into both his and the Queen's visit here earlier in the week makes me sick.
Yes it's good they visited, good for relations and good for morale etc. but spending millions repaving Phoenix Park and repainting the Áras and holding lavish banquet dinners when this country is so financially near shutting down is ridiculous.

One of you American folks seem to be over here in Ireland today. Everyone's makin' a big fuss of it n everything. Seems like a really nice guy too.
He must be some kind of big shot 'cause he even got to meet our president 'n all.

Anyway he flew around in a helicopter shakin' lots of hands and big smiles. We had crazy strong winds but they managed okay and I hear he said some nice thing too about us.

Any of you guys know him? It was all over the tv all day...

"In September 2009, Congress passed and President Obama signed the Enhanced Partnership with Pakistan Act, which authorized $7.5 billion in aid to the country over a five-year period from 2010 to 2014. The 2009 appropriation tripled the rate of assistance that the U.S. had been sending."

Maybe we could divert some of this $7.5 billion away from a "partner" country that seems to have either harbored a terrorist, or was at least incredibly incompetent at discovering he was right under their noses, and then refused to be completely open and cooperative in the follow-up investigation after we slipped in and took care of him, and instead send some of that $7.5 billion to help American disaster victims, like those who've lost their homes, jobs, and family members in Joplin?

Yes but connections do not help as much as people think. Heck, my current boss was very high up in the department just a few short years ago when he retired and is still close friends with Rusty, the Police Chief. But police departments have a lot of people trying to get on. You can easily have 600 people applying for 15 job openings. Heck, Indiana State Police are nearing the end of a hiring process and the number of candidates was a lot more than that! It isn't an easy career to get started in. I had an excellent shot at the Sheriff's Department at the beginning of the year but I was not able to make one of the steps in the process. They don't have alternate dates for testing and such. They tell you be here at this date and time and you have to be there. If not, you can apply next time they are hiring.

First point:yes, you're right. Now is the perfect opportunity, before I get tied down to friends or a job or whatever.

Second, I have no question that I would do a great job at it. The last process I went through was just a fluke. Normally there is nothing that can stop me. I have went through the same hiring processes before with the fire department. So at least I know what I'm getting into.

Anotehr oportunity with police or fire may open up, if you keep a goal like that in mind and remind yourself that your current job is not where you will be forever, it may make it easier to get through the day to day.

I am starting to get feelers out for different departments that are hiring. Rumour has it that the IPFW Campus Police here in town will be hiring soon. Like I said, Indiana State Police just hired and are going to again before the end of the year but I really do not want ISP. Fort Wayne City are hiring soon but they chose to go through the last list of applicants and hire the top however many that didn't make the cut last time. So, getting things out there to watch for now.

1. RPC might be getting to go home in the next day or two or three.

2. I thought I saw the mod-formerly-known-as-Slagle-Rock today at the Vegas Summit. However, I soon realized that it was just some guy dressed up as Superman. The fraud quickly gave himself away when I realized that he was about 2 feet taller than Slagle (he was about 6 ft) and also he was Hispanic.

2a) interesting "street performer" today... Asian guy who got $1 outa me for his triple threat talent of being able to murder a guitar, Nirvana, and the English language all in one sitting. His sign, in Chinese and English, read something like: Only guitar asian street player in vegas.

My mum has got a chest infection so it's pretty bad as the chemo has given her zero immune system. :001_unsur

I went back to that barber's for a day and it was really good. Got lots of nice pointers!

Best wishes for you and your mum, I hope everything goes the best for both of you.

Spent a good bit of today convincing my mum to go to hospital and then going to hospital with her. She's gotten a chest infection which is quite serious but she's on a drip now so should be ok. I hope we caught it in time. She really should have gone last night.

Anyway what have I missed?
Oh and I have potentially good news regarding working in a barbers but I won't know until Tuesday...

Yeah, I kind of felt the same way. I really liked it still but it was just a repeat basically.

Well, I don't know but I want to believe that. I am definitely looking forward to what's ahead though. May not be all good but how much worse can it get?

Not missed much but we missed you. Sorry to hear about your mum. And good luck for Tuesday! Wasn't Tuesday the day we waited for last time?

That's what I was just thinking.

Sorry to hear about your mum.

If you can take WestJet, they are miles better. If you are heading to Toronto from elsewhere out east I have heard great things about Porter Air, free beer is one thing I've heard, that and they fly into the downtown Toronto Airport.

Hmm... not sure of my options other than CanAir... haven't heard of the others. But, some US carriers I imagine will get there somehow. Thinking NY-area to "The Peg." Looks like, no matter what, I'd have to hub in Minnesota.

What's the issue with CanAir?

They will get you from point A to point B but the customer service is hit and miss, you may get good service or horrid. Westjet witch does go from New york to the Peg is great service, my Wife has flown them 3 return flights in the past few month and had not a bad thing to say.

That makes sense. Minneapolis is a major northern hub and I can't think of too many places that fly directly to Winnipeg. Besides, could be worse, they could always route you to Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta. :thumbdown

Depends when the "travel chaps" are ready and waterproofed.

Thursday morning! Actually, I hope to go home ad go to bed for a few hours Thursday morning after work. I am planning on being at burnWood's house in Chicago in the early afternoon. After we hang out, I figure I will drive for a few hours until I get tired. Then I will pull over at a rest area and sleep. I should get into town on Friday morning. You have to get you entry permit from the ranger's station within 24 hours of your departure. Thought I may hang around town for the afternoon and sleep in my car that night. Early morning on Saturday is when I officially shove off.

I have treated my clothes with permethrin and have some DEET, although I should get more. And I did not pack anything blue.

Blake, just hope that the Forest Tent Caterpillar population is low this year. Because if it's not, you're in trouble. I remember back in 2001 they had a bumper crop of those little buggers and it translated into a huge spike in the black fly populations in the western U.P. You couldn't go anywhere without having a cloud of flies trailing you. Heck, our yellow lab looked black whenever she went outside the camper. Yep, they were that bad.

The caterpillars are a major food source for the flies. More caterpillars equal more food. More food equals more flies, a lot more flies.
