Good breakfast: Five pancakes generously smothered in butter and maple syrup, three fried eggs, two emu sausage patties (emu makes great sausage!!), four pieces of thick cut bacon, one thick sliced slab of thoroughly fried scrapple, two whole wheat bisquits, homemade corncob jelly, a large mug of double strength day old coffee, and some cranberry juice to wash it all down with.

About a year or so ago. It was very low, along with my blood pressure (which the doc was amazed by considering I was still drinking very heavily). At 74 years old, I can still hit the deck and knock out 50 straight pushups. Not back for an old fart, eh.

My grandad taught us kids that the only way to get big and strong was by eating a good breakfast. Unfornately, in my youth, that was just a dream (this old bird was born to a coal mining family in southern W.Va. We were lucky to just stay alive some winters). Then I got out of the mountains as a teenager, and I got a job. As soon as I was able to buy my own food, I started eating big breakfasts, and between the hard work and big meals, I got pretty damn strong for my size (5'10", 180 Ibs)

After living in New England for a while, you learn that the best thing to do is to slather bacon grease all over your hands. :tongue_sm

On a slightly related note, I picked up a tube of Jack Black Lip Balm while I was in Florida. It provides great protection from the elements. I put it on before I go out on my bike and I have been surprised at how little damage the wind has caused thus far.

Mornin ladies and germs. Obviously by now it is known the tone of our little game with LM has taken a darker turn. How that happened exactly I'm not sure. I thought we were all on the same page with respect to this fake rivalry. It has been totally made up and was never in any way to be taken seriously. But then again I've been woozy the past two days from a heady concoction of Dimetap, Nyquil and a little white pill my wife slipped me. So I may have pushed things over the top a bit. Anyway please no one post any more rivalry related stuff over in LM. As I mentioned to them some of their numbers come here and some of ours go there so we always have been and should continue to be friendly. We are all B&B'ers in the end. We're here for the shaving info, the rest is just window dressing.

Sorry all around if any offense was taken. That was never the intention. Gotta go get ready for work now. Still not 100%, but I'm gonna wobble into work anyway.

everyone with bleeding hands please go out and get yourself some shea butter, I suggest slaveation 16oz pure shea butter http://www.salveation.com/ . My hands use to bleed a LOT, I use philosophy (it all smells girly though) body lotion and shea butter on my hands and I haven't had any troubles since. I only use it once a day when I get out of the shower and my hands are typically soft all day. You might want to buy one large and one small shea butter so you can keep one with you.

New york, right now NYC but I'll be headed up to buffalo in January where it is typically below freezing most of the winter. Right now it is around 30 degrees out and I jogged through snow last night.

I wish I had pictures, last year around this time my hands were literally bleeding. The backs of my hands would bleed the worst. It literally felt like sandpaper if I rubbed the back of my hand against my face.

Ah. Okay. So we face similar elements. In all honesty, I can't stand pure Shea Butter because of the greasy feeling it gives me. I've got some, but don't use it often. My hand cream and lip balm both contain Shea Butter, but I'm still looking for something a bit stronger.

I've tried everything and finally just gave up. The thing about it is I work with my hands, play guitar, etc. Covered in calluses and rough in general. If they weren't they'd be bleeding when I did anything. I'm fine with it. Wives/girlfriends have never complained. I've got that 'man' thing going on.

The seller didn't specify, they have a feedback score of 100% but I noticed that last year he had a few negatives for not sending things (which I didn't look at before I bid, this was entirely my fault) he has done a few recent transactions for the same thing i ordered and they were all positive. I sent several messages just saying I like to keep in contact with sellers please send me a response and shipping information if you have it and he never responded. It wasn't anything big, I was running out of shea butter so I ordered a 16oz jar of it from him. With shipping it only ran me about $17 but it's still a pain in the ass. I noticed the other items he sent recently took about a week to get to their destinations from the day they were ordered so I'll give it 2 more days but if it hits day 11 I'll have to file a claim for it.

I had the same problem with Coconut Lime Verbena this morning. I got a little cocky and whipped it up quick and it wasn't as good as other days. When I take my time with HBS I get a lather that is 2nd to none, should have taken my time this morning.

Any of you guys using HBS noticing you have to tweak the water levels? While I received a pretty good shave w/ the Bay Rum today I noticed the lather had those little air bubbles all over and it kind of disappeared on me between passes. I may have overdone the water, but wanted to hear other opinions.

I have not yet used the HBS yet, but I can tell you that almost evey different kind of soap has its own unique soap to water ration. They are sometimes a little difficult to figure out too. From the sound of things though, you had it too wet. If that happens again, squeeze your brush into your lather bowl, reload the brush with soap, and then use the existing lather in the bowl to build a thicker lather. Sometimes clay based soaps work the best when the lather seems a little dry.

Yes -- the sandalwood. It's good, but I like the soap better.

I just used the Lilac HBS that Shep sent me. It is pretty damn good. I would have to compare it to the soaps made by Joanna at TSD. They shave very similar. While being among the top small soapers out there, they are not quite on par with Colleens soaps from TGQ. I think Colleen has shave soap perfected.

First it was bunnies, now chickens. Have you all noticed an uncomfortable affinity for small animals around here. I'll tell you how I like chicken: rolled around in bread crumbs and fried up in a pan of hot oil! Oh yeah and they give us eggs too. You know how I feel about eggs.

The HBS soap is currently my #2 favorite behind Tabac. Tabac sets the soap gold standard IMO and will be pretty tough to beat. I have yet to try the TGQ stuff and am awaiting a shipment from Rolls. He claims they are better (see above), and I'm looking forward to a comparison. I will say this about HBS: the FO's do sting me a little. You all know the issues I had w/ the Lilac. Now today the BR heated up my upper lip just a bit. I still need to try the lime and oakmoss to see how they react. The reaction I'm getting is nothing terribly painful or upsetting. It's there, I notice it, but the shaves are so nice I'm willing to overlook it. I may order an EO soap from her someday, but honestly I'm all set on soaps/creams for now. Believe it or not I may have finally satiated the monkey. I know; hard to swallow, but a guy can hope can't he?

Tracy you really need to purchase a tub of TOBS from WCS or elsewhere. It's such a thick cream that it's almost soap. Fantastic shave and scents. It's pretty much the Tabac of creams I think. Though I do get a really nice shave from the Body Shop cream too. A tie maybe...

I'm not sure that any offense was taken, but sometimes it is best just to be on the safe side. Anytime things start to escalate, even in good fun, it is very easy for one person in the group to cross the line and then the whole thing goes down the drain.

In fact I know I made an earlier post in this thread asking you guys to hold the door for us at 5000. So it's good to see everyone is willing to get along and we can stand safely away from the edge.

I did a god awful job at preparing fava beans Halloween time. I watched Hannibal for the first time and decided to have fava beans and Chianti. Well... the movie was terrible and was nowhere near as good as The Silence of the Lambs. My recommendation: avoid it.

I have yet to use the Body Shop Cream. I think I'll pick up some of the old stuff at that after Christmas sale Rolls was talking about. Does anyone have experience with their new cream?

TOBS creams are really great stuff. I have rose, almond, and samples of avocado and Mr. Taylor. I will always keep a tub of rose, a tub of almond, and some Salters on hand from now on (and a puck of Tabac, of course). TOBS, Salters, and Tabac are my top three. Locally... hmmm... when I needed to send you samples, I went into Sephora and just asked for some containers and they gave me a handful. There's a Container Store (they're a little expensive, but good in a pinch) around my parts - I don't think there are any near you, though. REI and EMS sometimes carry containers, too.

Your best bet for a few containers would probably be to ask at Sephora.

There are posts by some of the founders of B&B (Suzuki, Joel, and a few others) that say that TGQ's soaps are the best small vendor product on the market. I would have to agree. Colleens soaps are the only glycerine soap (they are actually a glycerine/goat milk/multi-clay based soap) that for me rivals some of the high end triple milled soaps performance wise.

Check them out HERE!! (http://www.thegentlemensquarter.com/shaving.htm) She does not have hundred of flavors like some other soapers, but he soaps and cream are vastly superior to the competition in regards to performance.

the whole way to work I could see my breath... IN MY CAR. Maybe I should get the heat fixed. Alphonse (the car) also developed a new weird squeak. whenever I'm breaking, stopped or starting after a stop he makes a whiny squeak, it kind of sounds like when somebody pushes a rusty wheelbarrow.

Goodmorning back at ya. Why do women always name their cars? Heat can be a real good thing, especially in winter. Find out what your car needs and then PM me, I am in the used parts business for a reason. I will give you a smokin deal.

I tend to name all my big stuff, Not entirely sure why. Yeah, he would be a good thing to have in my car this winter. You absolutely rock, I sure could have used you when I destroyed my transmission last year!

Jen, Jen, Jen I'll bet you put a new or rebuilt transmission in your car didn't you? Used is the only way to go. We are cheaper and we offer as good if not better warranties on our parts. Better for the environment, etc, etc.

Rebuilt, now my car shakes :frown: I had no idea used was even an option! My dad knows a lot about cars, him and my uncle actually removed the transmission I ruined and installed the rebuilt one themselves in my garage. I'll have to tell my dad about this. He said it might be the thermostat that is broken in my car, is that expensive/hard to fix? my dad whined at the thought of having to fix it.

I just got served. Finally.
that sucks, but at least it's moving closer to closure

oh well in that case i totally lied this whole time, my name is Susan
but I like the name Jennifer...there was a point in Jr. High when it was annoying, 4 classes + 2 Jennifer's in each class + only 1 was a repeat...mass confusion

Fighting ruins everything. I can't wait to be at Buffalo.
space is good, but without addressing the issue, it will still be there, but there are exceptions...
me and my dad are so much alike, we can't be around each other for days at a time...a day or two, or specific events, absolutely great, but living with anymore, gets two stressful with two similar personalities there...I hope that's your case, but I remember reading back that there's more to it

Actually, I prefer the fried chicken of my homeland... (Last night was Bojangles, though.)
I've never had Popeyes, either, just quoting that line from Rush Hour 2, seemed fitting...on that note, I've never tried Bojangles either, not one anywhere near me, though I'm interested in trying it, John Boy and Billy mention them alot (often times paid, I'm sure, but there have been a couple times that weren't part of an ad)

Tonight has been a big stressful mess, goodnight everybody.
hope today is better for you!

Shouldn't be too bad to replace the thermostat. More time consuming than hard. Next time you needs parts let me know. I will find someone, reputable, in your area. NY has loads of auto recyclers. I wouldn't buy a used thermostat--go new. Some parts like water pumps, thermostats, brake pads, etc should be purchased new.

Thanks a lot! he'll probably fix the thermostat, especially considering he plans to drive this car while I'm away at school. Any idea what his new squeak is about it? could it just be the cold weather?

That could be. Is there a squeek involved from the motor? Miles? Need more info.

Rebuilt transmissions can be fine. I would doubt the tranny is causing the shake. More likey some other component or something unrelated. Could be wheel balance, axle, etc.

I was just thinking about something - I'm fairly young, but I have over 15yrs experience. That seems rediculous. Even more if you consider building motors at 11 or so. That's crazy to me. I used to hear adults say 15, 20 years experience and thought they might be dead soon. Just the random musings of a tired Unit on a Thursday in November.

Dom, your package should be arriving shortly, and there is alot more than just the soap from TGQ to try............

BTW. It has come to my attention that some of you do not know about TGQ. Do a search on the forums for the name Colleen.

I'm wetting myself with excitement, Rolls. I will definitely let you know what I think of the things you sent.

I am officially hopelessly crazy. Today I spoke to a counselor about signing up for classes tomorrow. Well since tomorrow some classes might be full I have 4 different schedules made out and ranked in the order that I like them. Each one has several possible substitutions in case their first choices are full (also ranked) and then one class has a catch all substitution for it's substitution because the sub class might be full too. They all have all the reg #s written on them, checked twice and looked over one last time just to be careful. (I should also mention I've been working on this since 10AM)

there will be very little partying time in this schedule, I don't even think I have any eating time factored in. My chem class also has a 5 hour lab on top of it's 3 hour a week lecture (the chem is the catch all sub for the sub so hopefully I won't have it this semester).

Jen, always build in time for partying and eating. Your young and it doesn't last. Enjoy.

Dom, I need to use the Salters one more time. The first shave was with a slightly less than stellar blade. I would lean towards the TOBS as of this writing, but I need more tests. I'm also considering revisiting my Merkur long handle. I think the razor is beautiful, but I just never got the hang of it's goofy angle and my shaves never seemed quite as good as with the SS. Now that I have a few months under my belt, I'm thinking I need to give it another go. I've also been giving some thought to a slant. My whisker growth under the chin requires a fair amount of J-hooking. I'm told the slant replaces that need. Any thoughts on this?

Gonna go do the shopping for Turkey day this weekend. Can't wait. I love the eats on T-Giving. Also gonna buy the makings for party mix. I gotta have some.

Being a glycerine/goat milk/clay base, these are better if you can grate them instead of melting them. When you melt any clay soap, you have to stir them very well while they are setting up or the clays will not stay suspended. Grating is always better anyway.

Sheez guys, I'm gone a few days and I come back to find that you've passed Linux Mint!

If only you had shown this kind of enthusiasm for Waldo, he might still be around! You know, the spirit of this thread is actually in keeping with my original vision for "The B&B's Shortest Thread" He just got sidetracked with people's obsession for pi.

If you lot think I'm going to try to catch up on this thread, forget it...

Witht the holidays hitting us, I'll probably be in and out--- mostly out, so please, try not to trash the place while I'm away.

So, what'd I miss?

Oh, and I've finally posted my thoughts on the tabac stick... handing it off to profsaffel tonite.

I must confess that I haven't shaved in a week. It's awful.

Well, all packages are in route from my BST listing. Like I always do, everyone at the very leats got a few soap samples. Some got more, but nobody got any half eaten sandwiches.................this time.

Return PM sent Tracy.

Is there some different technique to holding the slant? Do you hold it at an angle (I don't mean blade to face angle) or is the concept the same as any other regular DE?

Same concept but you don't want to use any pressure. Let the weight of the razor do it all. I hold it at the base, like a dart (thanks Mantic). I keep it steady and light and I get the best shaves. The head looks a lot different in pics but when in your hand, up against your face it looks and feels the same as any other DE. YMMV--thats for you burnWood.

My son tells me that his wife shaves everything below the waist with a Ladies Gillette w/ Crystal blades. She even uses a badger brush and the rose cream from AOS. That just proves again that women are a bit nuttier than men. Of course, women are much steadier, more patient, more tolerant of pain, more emotionaly stable, and pretty much better at alot of things than men are. Trust me boys, I am old and have been around many women. It is hard for us to admit it, but we suck.

They have a longer handle and a narrow blade gap which makes for a veery forgiving shaver. They also came in pretty colors with little stars on the handles!!

That right there is where I completely disagree with you.

The emotional stability of women is what makes them able to be mothers. Most men fall to pieces when thier kids are hurt or severely ill. That leaves the woman to pick up the slack. Plus, they have the damn kids too. That in itself is testament enough to how tough women can be.

In that sense of emotionally stable I have to agree with you, but in situations involving other people, death, cute things, and 6 days of the month we are not nearly as stable as you guys are.

Yay, quittin' time, boys and girl!
Got a mini lathe in the trunk, waiting on a delivery...
as to emotional stability, women are more emotional, and express it more than men, both good and bad. They're better nurturers, but also more "aww, the mean, evil, deadly spider has a cold, poor thing" and cry...okay, I exagerate, and it's a general rule and certainly doesn't apply to all women...but, it just shows that God's design for relationships is right, a home needs a man and woman, fulfilling their roles, to be the complete image of God, since His Word says He created man and woman in His image
That sentence represents my beliefs and convictions, if yours differ, that's fine, I didn't post it to change your mind, just the share my belief. Take it or leave. But don't be offended by it, please.
but yes, women emote better, and on a wider range, than men, which means their lows are lower and highs are higher, but they tend to be lead by emotions more than men

At this point in your life, you're completely allowed that sentiment. I am a little on the fence too. More stable in the face of a little 5-month-old projectile vomiting because she's been swallowing mucus from her cold -- yes (this recently happened and I freaked out and my daughter wasn't even puking on me). More emotionally stable across the board...debatable. People are people. It's unfair to lump all people into one category by gender.

If I buy the wife some makeup maybe they'll just give me a few bottles sans fluids in them. If not I'll take some real samples from them and clean the vials w/ vinegar and water. We're in business. Give me through the weekend, and I'll get your sample out. You too Tracy.

For legs maybe. And softer whisker gents. I really tried to like the Conk. While I don't hate it and I do recommend people at least give it a try because it's so cheap, it just doesn't perform as well as others on me.

I'm sorry it doesn't work out for you. I really don't need too much in the way of performance from my soaps. If it makes thick yummy smelling lather that won't make my blade skip then I am content. I always seem to get a great shave with my razor except that one time I used a red pack personna I threw the whole pack out out after one shave.
