We Need No Stinking Blinds!", etc.
My wife and I are alive and well. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. More info here. (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?p=2919967#post2919967)
I saw your post on FB. Glad You're alright brother!
In other news, I moved Thursday. It was sooner than I had planned but circumstances just fell right.
Okay, first off, I am assigning code names to my friends so I don't have to post the real names online. I don't know why but seems a prudent idea. You'll note I always referred to my wife as Mrs. Blackfoot, for a reason. If they're not a member here, I will be using false names. So, my best friend is Maya. This name has long been established for her anyhow. It is what we use when telling stories involving her when we are at work. Don't want to incriminate my boss in anything. Next. my room-mate is Vesper until I can think of something I like better.
Anyhow, Thursday I moved. One of my old room-mates, we'll call him Squirrel (long story) let me use his SUV. I was able to get everything in two trips plus some last things loaded in my car when I returned Squirrel's truck. By this time, Maya was already coming over. Maya and Vesper knew each other since we all work at the hospital. However, they had never hardly even spoken since their jobs didn't cross paths very often. So, this was the first they ever got to really get to know each other. They seemed to get along really well. I was very glad because my primary room-mate before (Matthew) did not like Maya at all. Therefore, she came over a few times but it was always awkward. Of course, Vesper and Matthew don't get along either. This was one of the primary reasons I originally decided to move. My two best friends never wanted to come over. So, I am really excited they got along so well.
We had a great night. I made dinner. It was what everyone seems to consider my signature meal/dish. I have to admit, I do enjoy my lasagne. We had a couple of drinks and talked all evening. After Maya left, Vesper and I assembled a bookshelf and then watched a movie, Casino Royale. By this time, I had been up for about 38 hours and had only gotten about three hours sleep prior to that.
Yesterday, I put my desk together and unpacked. I am in desperate need of a dresser. Otherwise, I am really comfortable here. I think I'm really going to like it. I am closer to work and close to most anything I need. The only downside is I went from fifteen minutes from Maya's house to a good half hour away. But, rent is considerably cheaper, less gas for most things, better arrangements, I hope, etc. I definitely have a bigger room!
Dennis called me today, going through town. But, I must have slept through and didn't get to meet up with him. Hopefully I can see him next time.

On a happy note, while on our all day outing, I saw a tea tent. First of all, can we get a woohoo? Second, they had in there the exact teapot I was about to order, for less. So it wasn't a complete loss. :biggrin1:

I wish it were. It wasn't too bad. However, we start our lunch breaks at 0130, circumstances permitting. Tonight, at 0100 hours we responded to a patient in ER. Long story short, patient ended up in restraints. At 0130 hours, we were just finishing up. Then a call up on the floor for another combative patient. It is now 0200 hours. I sent my first officer to lunch. About a half hour later, I have sudden realization. It isn't 0230, it's 0330. Crud! Forgot about the time change and now we are behind. So, I finally got my lunch at 0600. By the time I was done, day shift officers were arriving.
Well, it went fast at least. Only felt like seven hours.
I know I am opening a can of worms here but in her defence, I think I have more than one fire I've started that I don't remember some of the particulars that led up to it. :blushing:
Well, we watched Casino Royale together. She was saying how pretty she thought Eva Green is. So, I picked Vesper.
Now that sounds like a good breakfast!
Why do you always have a story about work? And if memory serves me, and it doesn't always, but I believe it was a paper towel that caught on fire. I *think* what probably happened was that I was cooking something and setting whatever it was there, but had it too close to the stove. We have a gas stove, so that's I think what happened.
In other news, I picked up a new ironing board cover. No one should be this excited about that.

Honestly, not too much has happened interesting for a while. The patient last night was a pain, but not overly interesting. I think the most interesting one lately was the guy that attempted to commit suicide by hitting himself in the skull with a machete. For those of you interested, this is not the most foolproof of plans. Granted, he was messed up a bit. Basically, he just gave himself a stay in the hospital and a terrible headache though. Apparently he felt this was a good end to an argument of some sort.

Many people don't realize just how significant that really is. a 9 is 40% more powerful than an 8.9. Scary stuff.
They say a quake with a magnitude of 9 only happens every 300 years or so. The quake in Japan was the largest in their recorded history and 5th largest in the recorded history of the world.

Another spooky fact:
A 9.0 quake is the equivalent of 474 megatons. That is 36,498x more powerful than the "little boy" atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
77 x Hiroshima = 1 Megaton.

I got ya! Thinking of writing a book actually. Will have chapter titles such as, "Assassination of Neighbours Pets", "Water Softener Salt In The Lawn", "How To Dress To Get The Mail", "They Can't Legally Keep You From Putting That In Your Front Yard", "Strategic Placement Of Rodents", "Blinds? We Need No Stinking Blinds!", etc.
And here all this time I thought you might be mad with me, since I didn't get back to you. I sent you a PM about my missing phone. Sorry bout that.

Bad news, I lost my phone on Saturday. I was about an hour from Blake and we thought we might meet up and before I could call him back my phone went missing. I retraced my steps a hundred times, called my wife on a pay phone (yes, they still have a few in some truck stops) and had her contact Verizon and turn it off. I even offered a $50 reward, but no one coughed it up.
So consequently, without my phone I also have no internet access. I am at the oasis in DeKalb, IL right now making a few quick updates and looking for a refurbished phone on Da Bay.
Aww, that sucks.
But here's something awesome: one of the best parts of living near the coast is a fresh seafood market. Tonight we had clam chowder. From scratch. And oysters. Lots of oysters.

I mean to understand how powerful it is. Sort of like trying to comprehend just how far away solar systems and such are in space. It is just a little beyond full comprehension.
Well, we are living on a giant molten ball of rock covered in a nice thin crust drifting through the gaping void of space. Anything is possible.
I'm American and I love twirling.

I did some math. The quake was roughly the equivalent of 37,000 Hiroshima's.
I'd believe it. It takes a tremendous amount energy to shake buildings hundreds of miles miles away and send a destructive wave halfway around the world. Granted, Hawaii and the West Coast didn't get hit bad but to think the damage reached that far its a testament to the shear power the Earth can generate.
I couldn't do it and came back just before the quake. Now I don't have the time to moderate as needed :frown:. I am going to remain on the team and I'll be back when life permits.
Such is life, Rob, but welcome back to the mod squad.
Well, I suppose a nation in chaos does trump a shaving forum.

That's incredible. The pics in the news here are horrendous. The news on the nukes isn't good, either. Hope you're staying safe.

I saw I needed to update mine. Anyone else may want to update theirs too, if they haven't been doing so. Also, If anyone else wants to add to it, feel free. Coincidently, I am considering thinning my collection out a little because of my current circumstances. So, I will check the list before I do.

Tupperware-type pasta containers (or any other appropriate size) work very well and are cheap but will probably need a humi element to go with. Also google for "cigar jar." A bit more but comes with humi.
I've been using cigar jars for a few years now (checking them fairly regularly for humi dryness) and have had good results. I gave up on the standard/wooden humi a long time ago as it never seemed to keep my cigars nice.

If you get a sponge-type humi element, it probably works out about the same (a crystal element will probably cost more, but imho are better). Lately, I prefer the "crystals" type element, they seem to do a better job and not dry out as frequently. Also, refillable with plain water. The stick types are perfect for cigar jars and take up no more room than a single cigar.. Jar type crystal holders take up more room, but also work well. Either way, you don't want to pack the jar too tightly so that the humidification can get between cigars if possible.

Cool, I'll keep that in mind. It would also take up less room, which is a concern since I have little furniture for storage. Then again, I'm a sucker for gadgets and a wooden humidor is a pretty gadget.

...and me. I have a pretty nice humidor, but it still seems to not work as good as it should, even though the temp and humidity readings are 70/70 when I check them. I did start using the crystals, and it's working better now, probably because I can more easily see what the liquid level is when I check on it.

The Czardom may soon be embracing coffee shops and have a strong presence in a certain Mediterranean country - but we will have to make sure the trains run on time.
Then raise the gas tax, like they do in Europe, to keep the cost of automobile usage artificially high so government funds can then be diverted to maintaining the railroads.

Picked up a Boost Mobile phone with web browsing. What a total piece of crap. It only works on the interstate. Get a few miles off and it goes dead. As far as web browsing, it allowed me to log in to B&B, but as soon as I left the log in page to try and post anything it lost the sync and had me logged out again. Over an hour of mega frustration before I finally gave up on it.
At least now I know I don't want to abandon my Verizon plan.

You bet that's a Gouda Cheese.
I got a really Gouda deal on it.
I bet it was too Gouda to be true!

I've had salmon croquettes, but I'm not sure what potato croquettes are, but I suspect tater tots are a little different. They are made from potatos that are chopped into tiny pieces, about the size of BB's, the packed together into little barrel shapes a little bigger than a thimble, then fried. They look like this:

Hmmm..
Potato Croquettes are mashed potato in a breadcrumb coating that are fried (I think). Though my mum used to cook them in an oven.
They are about the size of a female thumb I guess? And look like this:

Well, I do believe those city-folk have some weird-fangled trapping gadgets as the firing of weapons is frowned upon in the more 'civilized' parts of the country, but around here, unloading a few rounds of whatever concealed, partially concealed, or fully exposed fire arm you have handy is relatively commonplace. So, no traps are necessary or desired.

As far as squirrel making you hurl, well, I always follow that up with "do you know what is in your chicken? Or what they go through before they get to your table? Or your chicken nugget for that matter? Eh, but I'll eat almost anything. My wife agrees with you Rich, though. She won't touch any of my wild game. TEHO
Squirrel hunting is tons of fun, and I'd hate to shoot them and then throw the bodies away. I'm not wasteful. Besides, batter and deep fry it and practically anything is deli-isouso.

It probably wouldn't work. They can't even use British badger hair, as we find out in this lovely story of Gary's.
Back in the 80s we had a guy turn up at the mill in his car and asked if we would buy a badger off him that he had just run over in his car and killed - he had loaded it into the boot(trunk) of his car and headed down to see us. We had to explain to him that we didn't use british badger hair as 1. it was protected and 2. it was too coarse to use for brushes.
We gave him a guided tour of the mill and then headed for the main door to walk him back to his car. As we all approached his car you could see the whole chassis rocking from side to side and coming from the boot was the sound of a pretty pi**ed off badger which had obviously come round from being knocked out from being hit by a car! Not much advice we could give the guy apart from trying to devise some method fo opening the boot from the safety of the roof of his car! To this day we still don't know what the outcome was...!

...Leaving behind a house that's a wreck, and a strange hot water problem in the master bathroom. I'm guessing hard-water buildup and/or debris in the fixtures, but that's only a guess at present.
I'm still going to try to learn to hone straight razors this weekend with Richmondesi, and maybe I'll finally get around to bolting down the safe.
