Great idea, Brian! That place is impressive! :thumbup1:

Funny story for you:

I looked out into my backyard a bit ago. My FENCED yard, with gate CLOSED. And what do I find? A rather large dog that does not belong to me. Again. That dog is like Houdini. Apparently, he jumped over the low fence in his yard, went through his broken neighbor's fence, and dug a hole under mine.:nono: Have I mentioned that I have my own dog? And my dog does not like other dogs around our kids?

That sounds like a very dangerous situation, for your kids and your dog. What are you going to do to keep him out of your yard?

Well, for one, I filled the hole in that he dug and blocked that way. I will also be having a little chat. The owners are nice people, but their dog gets out way too much. It looks like he has one of those electronic fence things on his collar, but clearly it is not working. The dog itself is friendly, but I can't guarantee that our dog would be sociable when confronted with a strange dog.

Yes, it's very possible that your dog would be protective of your children and be aggressive against the other dog, when your dog is normally not aggressive. That could lead to kids jumping in to stop a dog fight and getting hurt. I hope you are able to get it corrected in a friendly way. It's the kind of situation that you don't want to find out what will happen, it's better to just not let it get there.

You have every right to be. As you said, this isn't the first time this has happened. You've been fortunate no one has been hurt. Yet. Rather than miffed or irritated, call it what it probably mostly is, you're feeling the need to be protective of your kids, and someone else's carelessness is exposing them to danger. That protective nature is a strong, parental feeling that I suspect your nice neighbor is soon going to feel the force of, and for good reason. Good luck! :thumbup1:

Interestingly, the news reporters here do have a tendency to over dramatize weather events. It is a running joke here. The actual situation is that most Houston area schools dismissed two hours early today, and will be closed tomorrow. This is being done on the forecast of the probability of 1 to 5 inches of freezing rain and snow. This morning, that was forecasted to start as early as 3 pm today. Now they've moved that back to start anytime between now and midnight. We don't have equipment to deal with ice or snow on the streets, and there are many people here who have never driven on ice and snow. It still seems amazing to me, having lived further north where we did get much snow throughout the winter and rarely shut down businesses and schools. I know it's hard for most of you to understand the mindset here. It's still kind of hard for me to understand it, and I've been here over 20 years. But I have only seen snow here a handful of times.

Now we had snow plows brought in to Dallas / Fort Worth from Amarillo for the first time that I can remember in my 47 years of living in Texas. This was done due to the Super Bowl being in the area since I have not seen this before as a major effort. We normally spread some sand and salt on major streets, but if you live in the country, you are out of luck. We will not spend money on incidences that happen only a couple of times every two to three years. So we shut down.

On the flip side, if those up north experienced what I and others experienced in the summer of 1980 (47 days straight of the temperature peaking well above 100 with moderate humidity no rain and 65% of the fresh water supply curtailed due to pump failures) then I wonder how well they would fare. Extreme heat is brutal even if you are prepared.

I am at home for day 4. More snow. It has snowed all night. Mr. Jack Rabbit has run from under my truck leaving his prints in the thick snow.

I was taught weather by a meteorologist who was my algebra teacher in junior high many years ago. He showed us some excellent tips that the modern meteorologists ignore. He was also a farmer and noted the behavior of his animals and was very good in augmenting the modern tools with the natural tools (animals and plants). He always reminded us that if a major layer of snow (not patches) stays on the ground for three days straight, it is almost a lead pipe cinch that it will snow and stick to the existing layer. On the high plains, which North Texas is at the lowest end of, the fronts roll through generally on a three day pattern carrying additional moisture. The fact that snow has not melted shows that the additional moisture will freeze before striking the ground.

Well the idiots on the local sports stations had a field day demonstratively promising that there would be no more snow to affect the game festivities. I knew something they choose not to understand or acknowledge. I am laughing at them while fondly remembering my late algebra teacher and what he said. About five to six more inches of snow has fallen last night and still going and is only now weakening.

I am thankful to Mr. Tynes who gave me and his students a competitive edge that has been appreciated years into the future.

I love stories about great teachers. I'll share one.

When I was a high school senior, taking the minimal number of hard courses I could and still graduate, I was in "study hall", with my girlfriend, doing anything but studying. A teacher who I liked, but was considered kind of geeky/quirky (for example, he wore a blue, short-sleeved jump suit to school) told me and my girlfriend we needed to come to his class instead of study hall, and learn how to use office machines. For some reason, we agreed. Probably because I liked his quirkiness, and him. I had already pre-enlisted, and left after graduating for the Army. I went to college after the military, and my interest in business, from that brief exposure to office machines, led me to accounting, and eventually a career in marketing and business development. That was nearly four decades ago. And yes, I fortunately had the opportunity to thank Mr. Bromlow for taking an interest in an unmotivated student. Oh, and that girlfriend, now my wife, and I are working on four decades too, and yes, she's way better with computers than I am.

Did you ever figure out a way to make it to Cambridge Chemists? Good night and safe travels.

I was pondering that today as well as a stop by Coney Island to get a Nathan's hotdog, since I dropped my trailer in eastern Long Island and was bobtailing back to NJ. I figured I had a better chance at maneuvering that way, however time was working against me and neither stop was possible.

As per Czar decree, the crafting of the weekend is as follows:
A linen shirt for Mr. Crafty
A red velvet cake for my birthday
3 loaves of bread
possibley some pizza

Today's craftiness included a second felt tardis.

So, do you let your dough rest in the refrigerator for a few days to give it that real pizzeria flavor?

And don't forget to wish Crafty Happy Birthday while you are there.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how to work that in, butt, I'll still say ]Happy Birthday to Crafty. :thumbup1:

The explanation is really very interesting! Even fascinating! Butt, it's all about Crafty now, so for now I'll just say Happy Birthday! :thumbup1:

Am I the only one who started singing "...put da lime in da coconut..."? We should be singing Happy Birthday to Crafty instead.

Butt I only made a suggestion. It's not like anyone ever listens to me, anyway. Except when I asked ya'll to wish Crafty Happy Birthday! Way to go, TATers!

Nice, Dennis! Happy Birthday to Crafty with flare! :thumbup1:

Again, that's for another time. Time now for another Happy Birthday!

Maybe if we wished Springs1 Happy Birthday like we are wishing Crafty Happy Birthday, ........., boggles the mind to think about it. :001_cool:

No. The only other thing that comes to mind is to say Happy Birthday to Crafty

Hey, look who's here - SURPRISE! Happy Birthday, Crafty! :thumbup1:

On behalf of Stan The Man (and without his knowledge) I'd like to wish Crafty a Happy Birthday!

+1 more Happy Birthday on Monday!!

+1 more happy birthday!

Butt we're only singing one song, now. Happy Birthday to you....

That is cheesy. Funny, but cheesy. And Happy Birthday, Crafty!

Nice Happy Birthday!

Hi Rob. Those might make a good Happy Birthday present for Crafty!

One of you is just the right amount! And together, we can wish Crafty Happy Birthday!

Although Simon's Town is very proud of its penguins, nearby residents suffered badly as the birds invaded their gardens, destroyed the undergrowth and were generally very noisy and messy.

Again we need the "Fun penguin facts".........

Adult Adélie penguins can move up to about 3.9 kph (2.4 mph) when waddling.
Adult Emperors penguins have a maximum waddle speed of about 2.8 kph (1.7 mph)

Are penguins intelligent?
I'm afraid to say that penguins won't be solving algebra equations any time soon. They're probably not on the bright side of the classroom either. Experiments have shown that penguins are capable of basic Pavlovian training (e.g., reward given for following a simple command), but not much beyond that. They have been trained to stop on command and perform some of the simpler tasks domesticated dogs can do. That's about it. They're not very intelligent.

Howdy folks!

I see much has transpired on B&B since I last darkened the doors of this place.

Everything's fine in my world -- just very busy, and hard to justify the leisure time on B&B compared to the leisure time with the kiddos, wife, and honey-do list.

Glad to see many new faces in TAT. That's reassuring that the best behaviors and practices of B&B (or at least the Clown House) are carried on.

Happy Birthday, Crafty! I have pictures of my boy in that hat you sent, but man, he outgrew it already! Nine months old and 22 muscular pounds of Soapbox Junior. Little Soapbox, too, continues to delight and amaze, of course. She's taking swimming lessons and learning how to use the pint-sized "'puter" that Rich so graciously sent us.

I've begun shaving with straight razors almost every day, and the parents' soap business continues to expand. We've made one or two improvements in the shave soap, but as with other developmental products, it had to take a back seat during the holiday season; they had to make a bunch of soap!

I'm having a tooth extracted today, so this afternoon I'll likely be back in the Clown house (and possibly on some fun drugs). Heck, I won't be much for talking, so typing it is.

More later!

Tooth extraction went very well. Tooth didn't break up. Novocain still working, so no fun drugs yet. Kept tooth (ewwww), but for good reasons: one of Mom and Dad's friends (who re-labels and sells GMS bar and liquid soap to dentists and doctors, and who rents some space at the GMS plant), is also working on re-cycling amalgam fillings, to extract the mercury and silver from them. Well, this tooth has such a filling, and he and dad are working on a methodology to separate the amalgam from the PETE (coke bottle / polyester fibers) fabric that traps the tooth/fragments/filling. I figure they'll need a test tooth or so. (ewwwww)

Didn't realize that the Czar was approaching 20,000 posts. That's...well, pretty soon he'll have to switch to signed 16-bit integers to prevent a buffer overflow, but I suspect that VBulletin uses long (4-byte / 32-bit) integers to track post counts.

Remember: this is Soapbox *not* on drugs. Sad.

Well if it isn't Mr. Feets! Glad you took a seat Jean!:lol::lol:

At least he is happy.

Well "On Golden Pond" was the top grossing movie the weekend of Feb 7, 1982. It easily beat out a Harrison Ford flick titled, "Indiana Jones & The Raiders Of The Lost Ark".

That;s only because OGP was Henry Fonda's last movie.

HBD to all the BD peeps.

Howdy folks!

Hey, Jesse! The only place I see you at these days is FB. Glad to see you over here again.

SWMBO showed me, It's Jules Verne's birthday!

Good to see someone else besides me knew about that. I would have shared my enthusiasm at work, but those guys don't get that kind of stuff.

But isn't he *um, how to put this delicately* DEAD? :001_huh:

Not if you have a TARDIS.

Tooth extraction went very well.

Glad to hear it all went OK.

And now, for the 20K something memorable post, allow me to post something memorable here for all of you to contemplate.....

Something Memorable Here

Congrats, Wise One.

The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated!

Oh, hey Jesse. Long time, no see.

You smell like dead fish...oh wait...sorry, that's your Aqua Velva.

Now I am caught up.

Actually, I don't think I lost anything, but I'm not really sure. I don't pay too much attention since I'm not a "high poster" like some, I'm just a little curious what "adjustments" were made, not because of post count, but just wondering what happened?

Hey! Yeah, I know, I have to post kid pics on FB or else grandparents get testy, so I haven't quite given that up yet.

Glad to hear it all went OK.

Yeah, I haven't even dug into the Lortab yet; Aleve has been handling the soreness pretty well, though I had to get up at 5 AM to take another dose. I may start ingesting something besides liquids today (though, my next beer is D minus 7).

Thanks all for the congratulations. I literally could not have done it without you. A fine bunch you all are.

I seem to think the CH clean up was put on hold as being too server intensive for now. But... it's coming... :001_unsur :scared:

I'm only. I have a few more years before I conveniently "forget" to tell people about my birthday.

Looks like we do, Rich is back up over 20,000... either that or he's one busy penguin.

Not much to catch up on, Crafty had a birthday on Monday and my wife went to Victoria over the weekend and Soapbox returned.

If they did, they would be the answer to the riddle "What is black and white and red all over", instead of a newspaper. :001_cool:

And Congratulations, Richard!

You mean like forgetting to type an actual number in the sentence, "I'm only"?
