Yeah, some employers do frown on that sort of thing. :001_rolle
Fortunately, they will at least let us have friends.

Sounds a little chilly, Darren. It's a clear day, 56 degrees and 19% humidity in Houston right now. Golf anyone? :thumbup1:
After the cold snap we had it's nice, ok now it's 6 degrees, which is 42 F.
Proctoring a final exam right now with no heat in the building. I do have blazinglogs.com up on the projector screen, though.

Its warmer than that here in Northern Japan and we don't have any snow. How are the roads? My kids are being driven down to Indy from Michigan in about a week.

You brought it back!
Right now, the roads aren't very good. The will likely be taking 69 down, I assume. 69 isn't too bad actually. But, I haven't heard from my friend today. The last update was a text she sent me last night telling me they were stuck in Michigan, I assume Detroit. Like I said, they slid off the road on the way up but that was Sunday Morning. Roads are a lot clearer now then they were then. Obviously, a lot can happen in a week, but unless we get a lot more, I would say they should be fine. :thumbup1:

Cold and windy, and to think I walk up to the front office and back twice today. The shop isn't even connected to the terminal, so that is a pretty long walk in the cold.

Matt, congrats on the Lions win today :thumbup1:
Yeah, too bad I turned it off after the first half.
I have a good friend that has season tickets to the Lions. We tease her to death about it but she's a great sport. Her husband, two friends and her drove up today to watch the game. They slid off the road but were okay and still made it to the game. So, for once I was glad to see them win. My friend deserved to see it.
You know what you should get your friend for Christmas? A paper bag with a pair of holes cut out for the eyes. Oh and write "Lions Fan" right above the holes! :tongue_sm

Yeah, Detroit is bad. Took me two hours to get into work this morning from the northern suburbs. Two and half to get back home. Oh and was that fun, the roads are solid ice up here. Of course it doesn't stop some drivers from being complete morons. I had one genius decide that they could stop in the middle of the road to try to get over into the far lane of traffic because they were just dying to get over there on my way back. :thumbdown

I would say they are some of the biggest decisions in life...

I'd like to offer two rewordings, if I may:
Why is it the biggest decisions in our lives rarely have an easy answer?
and:
Why is it the biggest decisions in our lives rarely have the "right" answer?
I always hated in school when the standardized tests said choose the "best" answer....I'm a black and white, yes or no, left or right, don't_like_in-between type person.
Life doesn't always present such questions with those options, though. In fact, except in matters of little to no consequence, those types of questions are almost never presented.
Do you want ketchup on your burger? Yes or no is pretty easy.
Do you want to buy a house? Yes or no gets pretty complicated.
We just have to line up the pros and cons, put emotional response in the back seat when dealing with the facts, and then move forward. Emotional response is important, but cannot be the basis of major decisions. Emotions change. Can't have our reasoning be unstable because it's based mostly on emotion.

Yup you can all help. So who can tell me the symptoms and signs of pityriasis capitis?

Hmmm, let's take the tough one and break it down. Pityriasis Capitis. "Pity" is when others feel sorry for you. "Ria" sounds like the Irish pronunciation for "Ray", and "sis" is self-explanatory for sister. "Capitis", "Cap" is obviously what you wear on your head, and "itis" is a medical condition.
So, Pityriasis Capitis means poor Ray's sister always has to wear a cap on her head for medical reasons.
Why is it the biggest decisions in our lives rarely have a good answer?
Because if the answers were easy they wouldn't be Big Decisions. :a36:
Sorry, I know that's not much help. :blushing:
I think Intrigued is spot on. If it weren't a Big Decision, it wouldn't even be notable. And sometimes the choices are the lesser of two evils, which are really tough, because you don't want to choose either one, but usually in those cases not choosing is a choice that's not good, either.
you know Blake, we are more that just a bunch of shmos here in the TAT, feel free to vent or let us help, put together we may actually have half a brain between us

Wow, this was a lot more thought put into my outburst than I expected. But, I see now. The consequences or stakes are much higher. Ketchup is no big deal if it turns out to be a bad decision. Making a poor decision on a home can screw things up for decades.
Anyhow, I appreciate the concern. I think my decision has been made. It is just scary to take the next steps is all. That was the real impetus behind my post.

First of all, thanks everyone. Second, I have been too dark lately. Today is worst of all!
This is a post that is probably not meant for words of comfort. I may be just an Fing rent-a-cop, but I see crap. Crap people shouldn't have to see. I left work today in tears! One of my officers was having a hard time dealing with it. So, we wrangled up some booze and went to his place with one of my friends. As I am leaving, I am trying to be the veteran officer, giving advice. I tell him don't get too hung up on it. People don't understand what we see, but I've seen a lot more of it than I care to remember. You can't let it get to you though. He looks up at me with the most serious look on his face I have ever seen and said, "I don't want to ignore it. I don't want to become that unfeeling." I was lost for a moment. I had to admit, he was right. You can't lose what humanity we have. Then, it all hit me, and hard. Every single one of these types of incidents! I am almost in tears typing this. What the hell is wrong with people?! It makes me think things I probably shouldn't. I also realized I was feeding him crap. You never forget this stuff. It haunts you forever. You have to bury it or it will destroy you. Then, you start to wonder what you've become. I don't know what to tell him anymore. I do know we can't drink it away.
Well, I better go to bed. My thoughts are too incoherent at the moment. The sad thing is, I still know, I am meant to do this type of job. Yes, it gets to me initially. But, I can handle it. I see others have such a harder time and I feel bad for them.
I will end this on a more light hearted note. I am dying at the irony here. Two of my officers seem to enjoy running around in their boxers when drinking. They laugh at me because, no matter how intoxicated I get, I can't let go that much. Here I am, Mr No Pants on B&B and I won't join them, even under a lot of pressure to do so. I mean a room full of people yelling at me. Today, I was told I am no fun and won't get crazy. My friend that went with us today was daring me. She said if I would take off my pants and run out in the snow and make snow angels, she would too. I finally did it. That girl punked me out and wouldn't do it then! She did once but was fully clothed. Dang her!
Thanks for the vent everyone. Please ignore this and go on with your frivolity.

I will say there's no way I could do that job. I can't get that detached on a constant, consistent, daily basis. Not willingly. Situationally, sure, if need be.
It's a defense mechanism to get detached, but it can be unhealthy to be subject to it too much, and get to a completely desensitized state of mind.
But you have TAT here to vent to and get away from it all, so maybe that helps some.
And, since we're on-line and not physically there, you can run around naked all you want and make snow angels......WHOA, HOSS! Turn the webcam off first!!!

I'm sorry to hear all this (though smile that you went and made a snow angel).
I used to date a garda (Irish cop). I knew his years before he came one and thought he was nice and so sweet and cool. Then we lost touch and years later got in touch and went out. It was so wierd listening to him talk about work. His way of talking would change and his mannerisms. He'd become really "lad-ish" and more aggressive.
This was his way of dealing with things. To be one personailty on the job and one the rest of the time.
It's a tough job and I couldn't do it. It can seem thankless but you help so many people each day and so many people out there owe you their life.
Let this thought feed your heart and heal your soul.
The things you see may bring you down but let the wonderfulness and safety you bring to the world bring you up again.
You don't get to see the man who arrives home safely to his family. The loving arms he recieves and the smiles on their faces. The man who's life you saved because you caught the drunk driver who would have crashed into him.
You prevent such tragedies and make the world a better place. You are only human so let this strength get you through.

G'night Dennis. Safe travel!
Well be careful man! Nasty stuff out there!
Thanks for the well wishes. We made it safely to Richmond, VA and my brother-in-law came down, picked us up and took us back to his place. We had a very good time playing cards and visiting. He drove us back to the truck and then we delivered our load.
The next morning (today) we drove to pick up our next load and while parked at the loading dock another truck drove into ours, smashed up the grill and scared the crap out of us.
Pictures and more details can be seen on Mrs. Trucker's blog (http://mrstrucker.blogspot.com/).

Oh well, must not be that important if I can't figure it out, right?
Either way, I hope it's that a thread got nixed and not posts I've made that were individually in need of being wiped, I certainly don't try to post anything that would be in need of filtering.
I just don't want to be the cause of headaches for the "cleaning crew" working overtime right now

Not quite! I was at a friend's house all day yesterday. Came home, slept until midnight, got up and ran to town to visit a different friend. Then, got home and everyone at work was texting me. I went to sleep for an hour and couldn't sleep any more. So, I got up and ran to town for a haircut and booze. After the party, a friend and I are getting a room at the hotel so we don't have to drive home. She lives forty minutes away and I live a half hour away. There will likely be a few others there but plans are up in the air. So, the plan is for some drinking there too. Oh, this is going to kill me! Haha! Well, yes and no, actually. Mostly no. But..... Hey, I was not going to come home like that! And, as I said, that was the worst case scenario plan. One of my guys has been in the process for the Secret Service Uniformed Division for some time now. He got the call before the party. His last day with us is Friday. He is very excited and celebrated last night. He was practically carried to the room we were all going to go to. His girlfriend and the friend I was talking about were picking on him while he was passed out. Well, ever see a drunk Marine wake half-way up in a defensive mode? Yeah, we ended up getting another room. LOL He is cool and didn't hurt anyone but it was best that we left.
We had a blast last night! The Docs know how to throw a great party. Funny, even intoxicated, I am running around making sure everyone was okay. I had a barrage of texts from different people this morning thanking me for taking care of them. Heck, I don't even know what I did for some of them but hey...LOL It was a lot of fun and a lot of alcohol. But, none of my friends got in any trouble and neither did I. So, it was a great night! On top of that, I made a few guys from another shift jealous because of who I was with. That is hilarious to me because we are just friends, but, it is fun to upset insecure dorks like them. :thumbup1: If I can scan it in, I'll post a picture that was taken.

They had a photographer there. He seemed to like me and said I had attitude. Thus, he made the girls pose accordingly. So, the first two are two of the pictures I was in. They are just photos of photos though. The second two were taken with my cell phone.
This first one is the two girls I was there with. The one on the right is a friend that use to work there. Since no one was going with me and she wanted to go, I said she could come as my "date". The one on the left is my best friend and, in all actuality, is my boss. She is in charge of the entire hospital at night.
136852
Here is my friend again with the Captain from day shift. He is a bit of a creeper. Apparently, he wanted a picture with her. I found her crossing the hall and she grabbed me by the arm and asked me to save her. Thus, I had to take this picture too.
136857
Here is My "date" with one of my officers from night shift.
136854
Lastly is a picture of most of the Security officers present last night. The officer in the last picture and one other were not in this one. The one with a hat is from second shift. The one front and centre (the crazy looking one) is the former Marine that is leaving for the Secret Service in a couple of weeks. :thumbup1: I'm going to miss him! Him and the officer that is not in any of these pictures are the two I hang out with a lot. They are my boys!
136855
My friend has some more on her camera. I am looking forward to seeing them. The sad thing is, I know I was in at least one more picture with some girl I knew but I don't have a clue who it was or why I don't have it. Most people can say they forgot a lot of what happened. I don't get that intoxicated. So, I only have my bad memory as an excuse.
