Yes. It was icky.

Speaking of seafood, it was halibut that I needed, dear.

Save this one, Jim: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/301248

It ain't over yet -- you still have several players yet to play tonight. The Jim vs. Blake battle may come down to the wire!
yeah, I had a slap-the-head moment when I recalled that it was a Yahoo fantasy game, so I found it pretty easy after that....man, hind-teet is all mine! No one can challenge me there!!!!

I have a question. It says I have an empty position a and I seem to have one less player than Jim. I don't know how this happened. I thought my roster was full. Is there anything I can do about it?
hmmm, the layout is still all so confusing to me right now, I wouldn't have been able to tell

Maybe Jim got to one of your players? I'd start searching for a body if I were you.
...hmmmm :shifty:

Is that how this game is played? Well, we'll see about this!

actually, for a while there, it was nearly impossible for us to get bigger schools to play us in pre-district games, they didn't want their records to look bad.

it was funny my senior year, there were so many schools we played in the playoffs that were tigers or lions or such, we adopted the phrase "Here kitty kitty" before the games

yeah, most folks outside this area thinks a rabbit mascot is pretty odd, but it works :biggrin1:

The Red Badge of Stoopid (http://stephanpastis.wordpress.com/2010/08/27/the-red-badge-of-stoopid/)

August 27, 2010 Not long ago, the deli in my grocery store put mayonnaise on the sandwich that I asked for with no mayonnaise.
Admittedly, the instructions I gave were vague. I said, “Please, whatever you do, don’t give me mayonnaise.”
The next week they left the turkey off a turkey sandwich. That’s an item most turkey sandwiches include.
Yesterday, they topped even themselves.
They failed to make the sandwich entirely.
That’s a weird thing about a sandwich order. You need to remember the sandwich.
I now see that with each mistake, I’m going to get less and less.
Which means the next thing they will do is come to my house and remove the food from my refrigerator.
The reason this keeps happening is that they keep getting new employees and I don’t know them. So I don’t know which ones will screw up my sandwich. Worse, I can’t remember who screwed up the last time.
Thus, I’ve decided to steal an idea from the Boy Scouts.
They award merit badges to people who accomplish things.
I will do the opposite. I will award badges to people who fail to accomplish things.
It is called the Badge of Stoopid. And it looks like this:

http://stephanpastis.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/stoopid-badge2.jpg?w=300&h=284 (http://stephanpastis.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/stoopid-badge2.jpg)
Think of it as a merit badge in reverse.
I’m going to have thousands of them made into stickers. And when someone around me does something not just stupid, but stoopid, I will peel off one of these stickers and affix it to their shirt.
The stoopidest among us will have more Stoopid Badges than a TGI Friday’s employee has chotchkies. This will allow us to instantly recognize those among us who are dangerously inept.
And there will be gradations of how much stoopid you can tolerate. While three on your gardener is probably okay, three on your barber is not. Nor is two on your airplane pilot. Nor one on your brain surgeon.
On the flip side, all human beings will have a maximum tolerance of twelve. A Twelver, as they will be called, should not be allowed to brush lint from your shoulder. They could take out an eye.
So feel free to put one of these on that special someone in your life.
Just don’t put any on me. I invented the damn things. Plus, my mistakes have a reason.
I can’t think straight.
Because I’m hungry.
Because my sandwich came without a sandwich.

Ah, Michael Bush. Lots of people had that problem this week. Long story short -- he was injured and didn't play, but since he was on your roster when his team kicked off he counts as one of your players. To avoid the issue, you would've had to pay attention to injury reports on Sunday morning to discover the announcement that he wouldn't be playing, then swap him for someone else. Usually these decisions come a few days before the game, not the morning of, but not so much with him this week. (Later in the season you have to watch more carefully -- teams in playoff contention will often be purposely vague about who's playing and who's not in order to throw off the preparation of their opponents). The moral of the story: do a quick check-in sometime before kickoff on Sundays.

Thanks, Blake, for your kindness in not mentioning that that my avatar is an old pic, and I'm afraid I've let myself go. The neatly trimmed whiskers are pretty scraggly now. I probably should go ahead and shave them off completely, instead of only that 1/4 inch strip above the collar.

And Blake is way too gentlemanly to reveal that his avatar is also his actual picture, too. Except I must say he is even better looking in person than can be seen in his avatar pic. The attention he drew from the ladies in the restaurant was pretty distracting, although Blake seemed to not notice. I'm sure he's used to it, but it was so bad, the waitress brought his food, and kept bringing complementary dishes to him, and I had to use my cell phone to call my order in!

This is getting pretty deep and I don't know that my watch is :censored:proof.

I... know nothing about this sort of thing, but I will congratulate you anyway, as that looks hard! Now, if you would like to discuss symbolism in classic literature...

I always found loads of aptly-used and didactic symbolism in Vonnegut, but he was pretty heavy-handed about it.

Busy lately, as always. The Big Viz Wall continues to perform pretty well, so much so that they're already talking about graphics processor upgrades(to the tune of about $15-20K!!) to make The Rainmaker happier than he already is. Guh.

The days are already sprints from beginning to end, so last night I took a few hours for myself after everyone went to be (that is, from 9 to 10:30 PM) and built a ham radio tool (http://www.mtechnologies.com/ohr/rfl100.htm) from a kit. It wasn't really a challenge, but was meditative and enjoyable. I figure only Jamie won't make silly jokes about a "dummy load", and I certainly don't need any more nerdliness flair, but it's nice to do a simple project in one evening.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. :wink2:

Mrs. Soapbox already looks askance when I bring a butane soldering iron into the house, and has relegated my radios to a drawer in the bedroom and a shelf in the garage for the foreseeable future. I think if I brought a can of oil and a couple of large resistors into the kitchen and started poking holes in the can and running wires into it I'd end up at Guantanamo Bay as a semi-permanent "guest."

This dummy load is air-cooled and fits in a small, attractive, professional case, so as to not set off the Low Wife Approval Factor alarms. It's unlikely I'll be pushing more than 100 Watts out from a ham radio for a looooong time anyway...

Jesse, you may want to look into getting a better/nicer soldering iron if you plan on future projects. I currently abuse a RadioShack model that I've had for eons but for my next model I am eyeing this (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9672) model from Sparkfun (http://www.sparkfun.com). $40 for a variable soldering station and exchangeable tips can't be beat.
