Even Santa has a vice. Normally it's chicks, but on Christmas Day, it's Luck Strikes.

Warning! Shaving related content follows! Warning!

So I have time for two passes when I shave before work in the morning. Normally, I do two north to south passes with some blade buffing, and get a perfectly DFS. But for the last week or so I've been experimenting with one north to south pass followed by one south to north pass. I've been using my Fat Boy and whichever blade I happen to decide to use next...

So today's shave was with a Nacet Platinum blade as was the closest I've had to BBS ever! Phenomenal shave, with only a small amount of irritation and AS sting. Still, my face is smoother than it's ever been, in both directions...

We now return you to your regularly scheduled insanity...

Cool!

Good evening TATers!

Torture... torture... torture...

Got everything out of the apartment and cleaned it up. It looks "move in ready." So I'm feeling pretty good about that. We still have a lot of settling in to do at the cottage. I'll leave most of that up to my wife, as I am just starting my new job. Hopefully she will get it together before I swing by to pick her up and we hit the road.

Vacation? Where to? :w00t:

Going to Central Wisconsin so my wife can work for five days. I have no idea what I am going to do during that. Sounds like the town's big tourist attraction is the church and a antique store. So, that may be boring. I want to rent a motorcycle and ride it around the countryside. But, I doubt we can afford that. I will bring my fishing gear. That should occupy some of my time. Then, we are heading to another small town near the Mississippi and renting a houseboat for a few days. Apparently a nearby town actually has docks for tourist to park at for free to shop and stuff. That is the fun part of the trip.

The BlakeChannel: All Blakeshido, all the time.

***Warning Shaving related post***

I have been revisiting my adjustables since coming off the 2 week GEM run. Monday Night I used the Super, which is my current favorite among adjustables, and last night I used the Slim. I'm not sure if it was the SEs that have helped, but my technique has drastically improved since I last used an adjustable. I have received two very good shaves - not SE quality, mind you - with razors I was about to write off. I will still probably give up the Slim in the future, though, but will keep the Super. Tonight, I think I'm going to use the Fatboy.:thumbup1:

I just down from the Isle of Skye
I'm no very big but I'm awful shy
All the lassies shout as I walk by,
"Donald, Where's Your Trousers?"

Let the wind blow high and the wind blow low
Through the streets in my kilt I go
All the lassies cry, "Hello!
Donald, where's your trousers?"

Skye is one of the most scenic places on God's Green Earth. There is a beauty in the stark landscape that is beyond words to describe.

Have I seriously never told this story here before?

Not that I can remember.

blackfoot

Not that I can remember.

Okay, This is a long one so I will tell it in installments.

I have a 15 1/2 foot Tri-haul speed boat. I went on a weekend camping trip with my Aunt and Uncle. I drove the car and boat to work. I parked in the farthest lot out because there isn't much activity there and I could maneuver easily. After work, Mrs. Blackfoot drove up and met me. I changed clothes there. Back then, when at the hospital in street clothes, I wore a badge on my belt. (That is important later on in the story.)

So, we left my wife's Saturn there in the back of the far parking lot. Also of note, we were supposed to have a sticker on the back of our review mirror to help us ID a person's car if there was a problem. Only about half the employees had this though.

I drove a 2000 Grand Am. God, I loved that car! I would still have it if it weren't for the most spectacular accident I've ever witnessed. However, unbeknown to me, there was a recall. Halfway there, my car was having a terrible time just getting to the speed limit. I was so frustrated. By the time we arrived, it would no monger do highway speeds. We assumed it was because of the boat and it would be fine without the load.

Part 2

So, the camping trip sucked. This great campground they took us to was a field on along Lake Erie, essentially. It was great if you were just there for boating because you could beach right there. But, blazing hot, no shade trees, and not much to do. Mrs. Blackfoot got roasted to the colour of a lobster in no time flat! We also discovered that the problem with the car had nothing to do with pulling the boat. My wife's best friend was borrowing my truck at the time. So, we called her and asked her to come up for the last day and bring my truck so we could get the boat home. We still hoped to drive the car unladen home.

It should be noted, my wife's friend is HOT!! (Again, that comes into play later.) We promised to take her out in the boat if she brought the truck. So, she did. She got there a little late and my Aunt and Uncle had left. My wife was so burnt, she no longer wanted to go out. So, (I will just call her K.) and I took the boat out by ourselves.

We were out for quite a while. My cell phone rang and it was my Aunt warning me we would be driving through a storm on the way home. Whatever! My family freaks out about storms like crazy. That includes Klog. Pansy! We have nothing but clear skies!

Part 3

My boat is an older one and often times, when I fired it up, it would die. Fire again and no problems. Well, we are a mile or so off shore. There were these two huge smoke stacks of some sort that I was using to keep my bearings. Just this side of them was a channel that was an idle zone and went a long ways to the boat ramp. I noticed a small cloud. Well, it is getting late and rain is heading this way. Probably ought to head in. Fired the boat up and it died. Normal. That is when my cell phone rang again. Mrs. Blackfoot was checking on us. She was trying to get spark plugs for my car. I told her I had to go because the boat died. This was our last contact with civilization for several hours. I started the boat and we started heading in. To this day, it amazes and frightens me to think of how fast that little cloud became a storm. The storm was heading toward us with the channel in between. Now, a tri-haul is not as smooth of a ride as a v-bottom. It cups the water more which is part of why they are so extremely stable.

K is a bit of a princess too. So, I was trying to be gentle. But as we raced the storm, I got nervous. I looked back at K and she knew what I was thinking. When I looked back at her, she yelled up to me, "Don't worry, just go!" I yelled back at her to put on a life preserver. Once she had it on, I opened the throttle full speed. By this time, I wasn't able to see over a lot of the waves. We were ramping off waves and when that thing landed it was a brutal jolt. I was trying to stand just to see.

Part 4

For those of you with pitchforks and torches, Rich was the one that admitted to never hearing this.

For the first time in my life, I was legitimately scared. I realized the reason was not fear of dying. I knew I would make it. I am near invincible and I always make it. But this time, I was responsible for someone else's life. That was heavy. The waves were getting worse and it was obvious I wasn't going to make it to the channel. I turned around and started to run from the storm instead of into it. My mind was going through all kinds of scenarios as to what to do. The entire coast was a sea wall with no beach. I had made up my mind to stop at a ladder long enough to get K out and then see if I could push the girl a little farther down shore to find a safe place for her. I didn't really think I would but I sure as hell was going to try. When I was finally beat, I could abandon her and swim for the wall.

But, K pointed out a ladder that had a couple of feet of sand. So, I ran her aground fairly hard. I helped K out and pulled a rope out and tied the boat off just in the off chance it survived the storm. There was a man at the top of the ladder and helped us across the wall. As we came over the wall, we could hear tornado sirens going off all over. This guy was running for home when he found us. He had us follow him and let us hide out at his house down the street.

Part 5

Well, this savior of ours was quite interesting. He had left a lot of his brains in a crack pipe in the 60's. It should be noted that I was dressed to go home. Therefore, I threw on the exact same shorts I wore on the way up. I had never taken the belt off or wallet out or anything. So, the badge I mentioned was still on there as well. So, after a few beers, this hippie points out my badge and asks where I'm a cop. I assure him I am no police officer. He asks a little about my job and other nonsense small talk. He then admits the reason he saw us was he had looked over the wall and a joint he had stuck under the edge of his ball cap had blown out. I discover he is convinced I am a cop. Yet he still offers me a joint. I refuse....many, many times. I also keep telling him I'm not a cop but that never gets through either.

He finally asks me if K is my wife or girlfriend or something. I tell him she is my wife's best friend. He gave me the most hilarious grin. I busted up laughing when I realize what he thought. It tried to explain but this too was no good. By this time, I gave up. I am a cop and I am messing around with my wife's best friend. Sigh! She was cracking up!

The tornado sirens had stopped but it was still raining and occasional thundering. However, this guy was starting to hit on K pretty bad. My protective side took over again and we took our leave after thanking him very much. He wanted to smoke one more joint with me but I refused. Didn't bother to point out I had smoked any with him. Although I had a fairly good contact high by this time.

K and I made our way back to the shore to look for my boat.

Part 6

Man, even I feel bad but this story is best told all the way through. :blushing:

We found my boat and it was safely where I had left it. This surprised me. I learned something this night about storms. Apparently, the water level is higher ahead of a storm, as if the water is being pushed ahead of it. So, where my boat had been barely on sand, it was now high and dry, almost. The transom was still in the water a little. Also, the boat was full of water and I mean full. Clear up to the gunwale. Hear, I did find my cell phone floating in the boat though. K's cell did not get reception there. So, we still had no way to contact anyone.

As I was assessing the situation, some high school kid sees us. He said the authorities were searching for some survivors from boats that went down and he was helping look along the wall. When he saw the predicament I was in, he said, wait, I'll help. He got on his cell phone and called somebody. Before I knew what had happened, this kids entire football team was there helping bail out my boat. They then helped drag it back into the water and made sure we were under way. They refused to take what little, soggy money I had. I really wish I could find them again and thank them.

Part 7

Finally, the part that brought this whole thing up!

It was well past sunset by this time. So we had to travel at idle speed all the way back to the channel. This was at least five or six miles. It seemed to take forever.

While we were puttering along, a helicopter flew over us and lit us up with a spotlight. They used a speaker and asked if we were okay. I signaled that we were and they continued on. It was obvious they were on a search pattern though. A little bit later, a coast guard boat came up and spotlighted us. They didn't bother asking and moved on. Seems like another search boat came by but not coast guard. I can't remember for sure now.

We finally made it to the channel. This seemed like it was almost a mile long itself. I was going a tad fast on the lake, which was crystal smooth now. But not in the channel.

When we arrived at the ramp, there was a Sheriff's Department boat at the dock and they were about to pull it out. They looked at us like we were ghosts or something. They were asking all kinds of questions. Turns out, the fire department search boat had just left and and they were leaving because all boats were accounted for. For some reason, they had not accounted for us though. I could see why. After all, there was my Chevy with an empty boat trailer right next their truck and trailer! WTH!

They filled us in on some interesting happenings though. The Coast Guard was searching for a boat that probably went down. The passengers had already been pulled out of the water. There was one more boat being towed in. It was capsized and the survivors were found clinging to the overturned boat. A couple others had sunk. Of all the small craft that did not make it in before the storm, I was the only one that brought my girl in under her own power. They were particularly amused since mine was the smallest of the boats in question. They obviously thought I was crazy to have tried to fight the storm in my little girl. But, what was I supposed to do?

But, this story isn't over yet.

Part 8

Well, I've gotten the boat loaded. Finally, K is able to contact Mrs. Blackfoot. She was a little freaked out by this time. The last she had heard from us I had to go because my boat died. As she was entering a Walmart a little while later, the tornado sirens started going off and all customers were rushed to the stock room. Four hours later and she still hadn't heard from us but rumor of boats going down had spread across town.

We met with her about 2300 hours. I tried to change the spark plugs and a few other things. Then, I broke off a spark plug. It was dark and I had no light except for a street light in the parking lot. I was dangerously close to snapping at this point. I, with great effort, calmly laid the wrench down and informed my wife this was not going to happen. We got some food and a hotel room for the three of us.

I got just a few hours sleep and had to get back up. I got into my uniform and drove the truck and boat back to Fort Wayne and went to work. Mrs. Blackfoot and K stayed with the car and got it fixed the next day. Turned out, as I said, there was a recall on the catalytic converters. So, those had to be replaced, on GM's dime, plus some other minor things that were a result.

Here is my favourite part of the story. I was exhausted! I had so looked forward to this weekend only to watch it turn to Hades in a hand basket. I was glad it was over even if I were returning to work. I pulled into the parking lot and down to my wife's car. As I drove up, I could see the windshield smashed in and a stone the size of a human head still lodged in it. I just busted up laughing! I was concerned I had snapped for a moment but I could not stop laughing. I mean, what else could possible happen and what difference did this make at this point?

The irritating thing was the Incident Report. The shift that found it somehow figured out it was my car. They did not mention this in the report but made sure that it was noted that there was no sticker on the mirror. The :censored: were trying to get me in trouble for it. They would always do things like that to make the best officers look bad to make up for how useless they were. :thumbdown I pointed out that I had requested a sticker and had not been given one and it was my wife's car. So, it backfired on them but ticked me off anyhow.

So, thus ends the great tale of the most interesting and horrible weekend of my life!

The following year, my Aunt invited us to go back.

Yes, yes you can. In face, *cough cough*, I've been known to get some from the other side of the Great Canadian Divide, er, border (you know, NORTH, North America, for those of you educated in the United States:blink:).

Unless he's a depressed drunk, in which case, well, he'll be fun only after sobering up.

Speaking of school, this is a pop quiz.......

Lets suppose somebody took a slightly embarrasing derivation of a shaving term as his username... Can it be changed?

Bob, let me know what new username you'd prefer and I'll take care of it for you.

Your new name is DamnFineBob.

I'm going on vacation in a week and I have no idea what I'm doing. This is great! On the plus side, I get to take the houseboat as far up or down river as time permits.

A few hours ago, I had something witty to say. Now I can't remember. It was probably rather silly.

Not unless you know something that I don't.

No, no news... or at least no news involving me. I just found the site and the vids were funny.

Who is she?

The following year, my Aunt invited us to go back.

Most entertaining, most entertaining.

And now, TATers, you've heard of Rob's Super Cape, you've seen Tux's costumes, and you've heard of Blake's linen pants (or lack there of). And now, I present to you...
