There would indeed be consequences from eating that particular plant. It's a Deiffenbachia, and if you eat enough of it, your throat closes up...

I had one in college that my mom ended up raising into something about the size of the people-eating plant in Little Shop of Horrors...

What a day. Last night I got a text asking me to come work. I had not slept all day but agreed. Then, I am told maybe not. I was geared up and had the bike out of the garage when I was told I wasn't needed. Well, now I wasn't going to sleep. So, changed back into street clothes and rode in and visited a little. Got home around 0400. It was so cold, I wasn't going to sleep again. I fell asleep for a little while but had to get up at around 0600 I think. I finally got to sleep for about two hours this afternoon.

9 hours later and I am still smooth. Which is good since I have a rapid growing, heavy beard. BTW, do all shave sticks perform this well, or is Arko the god of soaps?

Tallow sticks perform the best (as opposed to non-tallow sticks), IMHO. I get very similar results from Arko, Valobra, and old Erasmic.

Valobra *stick* is tallow. The jared stuff is not.

Erasmic oldest formula and newest formula in *stick* form are also tallow. (no erasmic formula in bowl form is tallow).

I'm sure there are others.

Arko stick, as you know, is also tallow.

I figured that was why I liked it so much. I will have to checked those. So Speick is not tallow, and none of the glycerin soaps that put there in stick are tallow?

that's very cool, I've wanted one for quite awhile now, but something else is on my immediate, must have, do want list....

What could possibly be cooler than a binary watch?

Palmolive smells like, well, Palmolive. I kinda like it, it's like a soapy, clean smelling dish soap, but it's not overpowering, to me anyway. Guess maybe my olfactory receptors are used to it, since it's the brand of dishwashing liquid and kitchen liquid soap we use

Well, I kind alike the smell of Arko, and my wife said she thought it smelled good, so I would probably like the Palmolive.

BTW The only decent Ginger Ale is Vernors and mixing Ginger Ale with Kahlua sounds like a waste of two good things to drink. :thumbdown

I wouldn't mix a good Ginger Ale, unless it was a more disguise-able liqueur. It was the new improved Canada Dry. And Kahlua is too syrupy to drink on it's own, IMO. And there are a few other ginger ales that I think top Vernors, you just have to be ready for the punch they give.

Well, wife is sick this morning. She was up half the night and never woke me. After a few heating pads, dry toast, and hot tea, she is finally able to take some pain killers. I don't have to take care of her like this very often.

Sorry to hear about that. Having is sick wife is even more miserable than being sick yourself.

Ladies and Gentlemen, gather for an announcement.

As some of you remember, Ray stumbled across a grand opportunity at a Gillette Toggle. I have not heard anyone ask, but I was fortunate enough to be the one to purchase it from him. I have used it and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thank you Ray for this! The Toggle has been my Eleanor, the one I have hoped to someday own. The capstone of my collection. I used to say I was not a collector until I had cases and a Toggle. Well, there is no denying it any longer. I am so excited! Yet, there is a bit of sadness. Where do I go from here? The other razors I do not have are all typically quite expensive. We shall see.

But, it was suggested to do a pass with this since so many would like to try one out. So, it only seems fair to oblige. I am posting this here because I know and trust you guys. I will let any of you who want to, try it out. Czarist or pirate, Mod or noob, Post dopers[ TATers or Stan the Man wingmen. This is a TAT exclusive!

For the sake of propriety, I will set a few ground rules.

I don't like anything that sounds official. After all, this is a pass along among friends. However, I've seen these things go awry also.

Rob, Jesse, and Jim all stated they would be interested when this initially came up. So, I am sending it to Rob first, since his will be the most expensive shipping. By the time he receives it, the list should be about ready and we will know who to go to next.

Gentlemen, this is a very nice nice razor, and I was very impressed with it. Toggles are hard to find, and I am glad I found it and was able to help Blake get it. Wow, Blake. I'm speechless. Incredibly generous of you.

Well, the ladies and gentlemen on of TAT are what I consider to be my friends. Several of us have been through some difficult things and we always have the care and support of the other TATers. In fact, that generosity is why I had the chance to buy this to begin with.

In other news, I am rather excited. As some of you may know, my favourite music is Chicago-Style Blues. As a result, I have always wanted to learn to play the harmonica. I had a cheap one as a kid but it was little more than a whistle to me then. I purchased a nice one years ago and lost it when our house burnt down. Somewhere along the way, I bought another decent one and recently bought a antique one while razor hunting. But never learned to play. Well, I found a free site today that has online lessons. It looks like it will be fairly simple aside from the practice.

True story. When I was a teenager and applied for my first job, the lady looking at my app asked how I knew the one guy listed, the Town Marshal of the town I grew up in. I stated my father used to work for him. She stopped dead cold and asked, "Your dad is Rambo Randy?!" I had heard that was the local trouble maker's nickname for him but I did not realize it was so prolific. I answered yes. She then said she would not tell me who she was or why she knew dad. I looked at her and said, "I'm not getting the job am I?" I think she felt sorry for me. Her and I became friends after I started working there. Turns out her brother was in prison or something because of dad and he had caught her and her boyfriend "parking".

I'll bet there's an app for that....
Edit: Yeup (http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/binary-clock-widget_gkst.html)...

and, I should add, I've forgone the awesome that it would be to acquire that phone, the first of several reasons being it will likely cost $100 more than the regular model.
Seeing as it won't have a genuine electroshock thingy, and can't fix my hyperdrive, it doesn't justify the cost.
Another reason is my previous phone was completely useless, I had thought I could make it a month, but it died.
Another would be the fact that I work in a school system, and a toy of such awesome would make it a higher target for 5 finger discount.

So, it's the regular plain old Droid 2 for me (wow, how they managed to make the Droid 2 sound mundane is inconceivable, but they did it)

But how excited is Mrs. Blackfoot? Or are you planning on practicing when she's not home? :001_tt2:

You have to tell it what to say (either typing the words in or sending it a file to read). But, under "accessability options", *i think* there's an option for it to read whatever is on the screen. Somewhere I read about an option to do "voice command" as well, but I have no idea if this is a current or proposed future option.

I would be very surprised if there weren't. The GUI might be one story, but for sure you'd have either espeak and/or festival installed for CLI.

Open up a terminal and type:

man -k speech
and see what pops up. You can always install if they aren't already on board. Also, check your GUI accessability options.

Well, wife is sick this morning. She was up half the night and never woke me. After a few heating pads, dry toast, and hot tea, she is finally able to take some pain killers. I don't have to take care of her like this very often.

Get well soon!

Anyone that wants in, PM me:Username
Name
Address
Email
Phone number

You are responsible for sanitizing it to your own requirements. But remember:
Do not boil it
Be very careful of the gold finish which is already coming off.
Just use common sense

PM me me when
You receive it
You ship it to the next person

Package it safely.
I withhold the right to deny someone a turn with this.
Use it for a week or so and pass it along. I realize that, depending on how many wish to try it, I may not see this again for a long, long time. But, I also want everyone to get adequate time with it to see if they wish to pursue one.
Enjoy!

Rob, now you can quit worrying about why I wanted your address.

Ah, I see....

You know I had a toggle and I shaved with it once or twice, and then sold it  (I needed the money for something else) and now I regret it.

I don't think he appreciated the reference I made. Said something about mailing a surprise and I said the Unibomber liked to do that too. Funny, I don't think him and I have had a PM since.

Adam really needs to make his way back over here and take the heat off Blake. Early in the year we were always giving Mr Peepee Pants the random harassment.

Yeah, I'm going to have to send some penguinators out to bring the whipping boy back.

Get well soon!

Ah, I see....

You know I had a toggle and I shaved with it once or twice, and then sold it  (I needed the money for something else) and now I regret it.

:lol: If it were coming from anyone else I'd be worried.

My own personal roll, I am so proud.

Glad to see you stick your nose in here Rob.

 ...

On that note, may I remind the six of you TATER Leaguers that our Live Draft is only 3 days away. Alert! Alert!

(and after having the date set for over a month, my wife now wants to go SHOPPING Friday evening... geeeesh).

Prepare to be smitted! Or smitten, or whatever.

Is it just me or is there a severe lack of Slaglerock & Rolls around here?

He's just saving up. Man, it's gonna be a plumbing choker when he finally posts.

Yes, we're in the middle of a severe drought, but be prepared! The Great Slagleflood of 2010 is coming!

Now Rob, is that any sort of SlagleFlood of epic proportions that we have been expecting? When I saw that you had posted I expected about 500 multiquotes about long forgotten discussions.

That said, welcome back! :thumbup1:

I too am greatly disappointed. All that mental preparation and for what? :nonod:

Well, glad you're back in any case, Rob.

That's it?! Sigh. Pitiful. Emo kitteh is even more depressed now.

Where is my other ineffectual cheerleader? Go team go.

Or not.

Whatever.

Anyway...

Good morning TATers, and good evening to our overseas superfriends.

Today is a good day. Got some pretty pretty things (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=2362472&postcount=24) in the mail yesterday.

No, that computer is my ssh gateway to the LAN but more importantly it's my scanner audio server. 3 radios with remote control so that I can keep up with the news no matter where in the world I happen to be... such as work.

No just scan bank A.

I know, bad joke that no one will get. So let me explain...

My scanners have an RS-232 port that you can send commands to via the *gasp* serial port with a terminal program (minicom via ssh for each radio to be specific). Each scanner has 10 banks but the commands don't use numbers, only letters to designate the banks. The local countywide trunked radio site is stored in bank 1 or A so the command would be...

SB A
SB A
OK

The next county site south is located in bank 2 or B so that if something really interesting is happening but not being transmitted on the closest site, I can listen to both scan banks.

SB AB
SB AB
OK

Warning! Shaving related content follows! Warning!

So I have time for two passes when I shave before work in the morning. Normally, I do two north to south passes with some blade buffing, and get a perfectly DFS. But for the last week or so I've been experimenting with one north to south pass followed by one south to north pass. I've been using my Fat Boy and whichever blade I happen to decide to use next...

So today's shave was with a Nacet Platinum blade as was the closest I've had to BBS ever! Phenomenal shave, with only a small amount of irritation and AS sting. Still, my face is smoother than it's ever been, in both directions...

We now return you to your regularly scheduled insanity...
