you've mentioned that before, but I just can't bring myself to do it...
and speaking of grilled cheese, here's my method:
large cast iron skillet, on high for about 1 minute, then large dollop of butter (sometimes olive oil if I feel like healthier)
once it's good and melted, I take a piece of bread, butter it real good on both sides, drop in the skillet, slide it around skillet to evenly spread out the butter and sop up and extra butter, flip, do same, remove bread, make sandwhiches as usual....oh, and eat first piece of bread - that, my friend, is divine! no toast can hold a candle that baby!
anyone ever tried using mayonnaise instead of butter for a grilled cheese? I read about it somewhere, thought that's crazy, but tried it...not bad at all, I think I A) skimped too much on the mayo, and B) heated it too long, but it was not bad, prefer butter, but it's an alternative
In all honesty, things soaked in butter make me feel sick. I rarely ever cook with butter and up until recently, hadn't purchased butter in the grocery for well over a year (I use olive oil for most things).
:lol::lol::lol::lol:
and yay! Ian's avatar is back!!!

I try to use olive oil as much as possible, even occasionally on GCS, but some things, being the Southern boy I am, just HAVE to have butter...I remember reading somewhere on this site about a culture that uses butter as creamer for their coffee...I'm almost tempted to try it, but not sure what kind they use

That's the only way my wife will eat them. Put mayo (we prefer Hellman's)on bread, like you would for lunchmeat, but put it on both sides of the bread. Assemble and cook sandwich as usual.
I've taken to making mine the same way when I make hers, only because it's easier than getting out both the butter and the mayo. I don't think it tastes much different, although the mayo adds a slight tanginess (sp?) to the sandwich.

G'mornin'.
Oops. Completely forgot about that. That's me and my awful short term memory for you.
Now that I got a haircut my ears and neck are cold. Haha.
Got a trim today. Just to neaten up. I usually get a haircut once or twice a year at most (I've got longer hair, for those who don't remember me talking about it before - not shoulder length or hippie long, though).
I usually get a haircut whenever I visit Florida. The only guy I trust to cut my hair is in Florida. About $20 and he does an amazing job. Everywhere in Boston charges more than that (except for Supercuts, which is awful) and does a mediocre job. So for all the hatred I have for Florida, I do like the fact that I can get a good haircut for a reasonable price here.
As for the cold thing... I'll be back in the lovely cold tonight. It was blazing hot here today. Well... not blazing, but uncomfortably hot, at least. I used to wear beards in the winter until a couple years ago when I started seeing my girlfriend. She's fine with my goatee - she actually likes it, to be honest - but I can't get away with a full beard around her. My face is now perpetually cold in the winter. Oh well.
But the puppy is happy.
It's raining. Wet leaves aren't fun to rake.
Awww. Puppy.
Wet leaves are definitely fun to jump in.
..and I'm all out of pumpkin delights
:frown:
I only bought one box of the stuff. I loved them.
One of my seasonal favorites is the Cadbury's Cream Egg you get around Easter time. It's a hollow chocolate egg filled with fondant. The US made ones have been suffering in quality for the last two or three years (they made them smaller with less filling and a thicker chocolate shell), but the ones made in England are still delicious.

So I just got through security in the airport a little while ago at Ft. Lauderdale airport in Florida. In the past two weeks, I have flown out of Boston Logan and Chicago O'Hare.
Out of the three airports, I have only been stopped in Ft. Lauderdale for my DE (without blades). The lady even disassembled the razor and asked me if I had any blades. I told her that I didn't and she assembled it back and put it back into my back.
Commendable work, Ft. Lauderdale airport. For the smallest airport I'm familiar with in the US, they do a bang up job at security. Nothing goes by them. I can't tell you how many times I (or my brother in the few times we've traveled together) get by security in Boston or some other larger airport (Miami, O'Hare, Washinton/Dulles, etc.) with no questioning when we accidentally forget to leave our pocketknife or something else like that at home.
