My husband and I both have birthdays this month, so to celebrate we went razor crazy........... a "TOGGLE" for him
....... and for me a beautiful, gorgeous, near perfect, did I say beautiful? "DARWIN" DE with leather case. :w00t:
I feel like gollum with his precious... I luvs my "DARWIN" :001_wub: or I will when it gets here from England.
As proof that we really went razor crazy we also got his and hers "Feather" all stainless razors (one Japanese version with stand and one American version with box). We luv them too. :001_wub:
WOW The Darwins are GORGEOUS razors! Lucky find! Just be careful, IIRC they are rated as quite aggressive.

Jumpin' Jesus, where'd you get that kind of coin?! :w00t:
 I worked 28 yrs. at a well paying job before being down sized in 2004, my husband took a buy out from the same company 9 mos. later. I saw the writing on the wall and payed down our mortgage as fast as I could. Now have no mortgage or car payment and work a fairly crappy job for cheap health insur. and the ability to indulge once in a while. :001_smile

This Darwin looks to be the best of the pictures I seen. Yeah I read that their aggressive too. Of course we'll both have to try it out but mainly the Darwin is going to be my crown jewel and at least right now we don't plan on collecting razors in a big way. The Toggle and the Darwin are the ALL STARS to us. :001_smile

California, I think. Does that count?
Whoa! They still have those?
I was impressed as well. Even any tech support at all is amazing these days, AND a real human was on the phone in about 3 minutes. This alone justified the extra $ for the Mac, and this is coming from an anti-Mac/Apple guy.
In just a couple of days, I am so spoiled already. I think my next desk unit will be a Mac as well. They have huge screen displays and the prices are much less than what I paid for my last desk unit and about half of what I paid for my first brand new computer.
BTW, I am posting this from the Macbook Pro, in the truck, through the Palm Pre. (Obviously I am not driving at the moment.) This is so cool. It's nice when things just work.

Picked up a Rolls for the cheapest price I have ever seen. For the price, I couldn't walk away, just because they are so weird looking. Speaking of weird looking razors, I saw a single edge razor that had sort of a Contour-like handle, but it used some very short single edge blades. Had some nice scroll work going down the side. I also saw another single edge that came with some weird parts. Some kind of head attachment that looked like a reel-blade lawnmower.
And Jesse, I saw another Stahly. It was nice and shiny, worked perfectly as far as the mechanism goes. Drawbacks: not in the case, and $35.

What's the differences between the Ever-Ready, Star and Gem SE razors? I saw all three today (a Gem, which looked like a 1912, but didn't have that tell-tale marking on it, was still in it's box with the instructions. I passed on it since it was $20), as well as an 1912-looking Gem Junior.

So, they just marketed different models under different names? OK. Didn't know if there were differences in shaving, etc.
I forgot to mention earlier that besides the weird razors, I also saw an Austrian made Gillette travel razor. It was so shiny, there's no way it was ever used, and it came in it's handy dandy leather zip case. Very small.

(Side point #1: That takes skill ) (Side point #2: You will quickly learn, no one that wants to take their clothes off in an ER is someone you want to see naked) So, we have to go put her in four-point restraints. We grab her legs to begin.
Finally, the quote: "I have genital herpes! Ha Ha Ha!"
Yeah, that is just a glimpse of how my night went. It was crazy all night. But, we did have fun tonight despite it all. The Probie was there and we spent much of the night mocking him.
I thought you were setting up a joke. And then I realized it wasn't a joke. That's even funnier. Mr. Crafty wanted to know what I was laughing at.
We have awesome women in this thread. Wow.

Yeah! From what I've read their made out of solid cobalt steel so they are heavy. Their said to shave good but aggressive. It was some serious coin.

Well, now you have a peak at the adventure that is my life. You can see why I am full of stories. Note, this story would not have been interesting enough to post had she not made the genital herpes comment. The whole incident was amusing, but that part needed to be shared. :001_rolle
Probie didn't know what to do. I am fairly certain it was the first he saw a naked woman off of his computer. As mean as I am to him, I regret that was the one he had to see.
Speaking of, here is what I did to him tonight. There is a cute Dominican chick that works in the Lab. She has actually been flirting with Probie. As she was leaving, she saw him in the Lobby and stopped to talk to him. The Captain pointed it out to me on camera and I told him I had to hang up. He knew I was up to something and let me go. I called probie up on the radio. Mind you, I am the only one with a ear piece, so everyone can hear our traffic when they are nearby. When he answered, I told him his wife was on the phone and wanted to talk to him. Obviously, he isn't married. Even on camera, I could see him turn beet red and she walked away. The others said they couldn't believe I did that. They, of course, thought it was awesome.

Very small.
I have one of those in the zip case. It's a great little shaver.
Me too. I think I paid $10 plus shipping.

I went for a great ride today. There is a beautiful and large reservoir south of here, maybe a half hour away. We rode down there and over the dam, and through the reservoir rodes. I got to show my friend some areas I used to hang out at, some death-defying curves, and some of the still visible portions of the old Erie Canal including an old lock. It was a beautiful day for it. I also took him through my snow drift. He survived. I was impressed though, I was taking the curves a whole lot faster than he was. He is the stupid, fearless one. However, I did come face to face with my worst fear. The sun was going down and I was on the snow drift, which runs a few yards from the river. As I was banking out of one curve and into the next, right there in the road was a deer. The deer jump out of my way and ran into the river. My friend was a little behind me and didn't see any of it. He also did not notice the huge brown smear down the road from me crapping my pants. I didn't tell him about it until we got to my house because I didn't want to freak him out. It was a great ride though. :thumbup1:

It just occurred to me, there are some newer ones who probably didn't understand the snow bank reference. After I got my motorcycle and got a little time in on it on regular roads, Dad took me on my first joy ride. You know, one that is just for the shear fun of winding roads on a motorcycle. We pulled off onto a road that follows the river. He stopped and told me, legend has it that Vikings would take their newborn son and throw them into a snow bank to see if they were strong enough to survive. He then said, "Son, this is your snow bank."
It is a great road with several 30 mph curves that I take nearly twice that. Of course, my dad takes them a lot faster. Some friends were telling just the other day, they had never seen a old man that rode as hard as my dad. He routinely drags his pegs. I am not anywhere near so adventurous. I like to push it a little. however, for me, it is more about the ride. I like to cruise and enjoy the scenery. That is why I decided not to start riding until I was 30. Had I started younger, I would have surely killed myself.

I mainly stick with the antique malls around here. They tend to have more razors and such than other antique stores. Most of the places that are just an antique store tend to be uber high class and mainly deal in china, silver, doors, knobs, hinges, furniture and things like that. Those cater to upper classes and look at my funny when I walk in. The antique normally have everything you could think of, or wouldn't think of, and they cater to everyone. They normally have the best prices, too.
There is one antique mall that is becoming my main place, just because they are always getting in razors and such. I have about 3 other guys, whom I have never met - online or in person - that are my main competitors at that store, and they are mainly interested in TTOs. Since they have several razor hunters now, they are picking up any and all they can find. :biggrin1:

Seriously. Blake + bike= (usually) tornado.
Well, today I spent another great day on the bike. I rode into town and had lunch with Mrs. Blackfoot, Skklog, Minxy, Mum and Dad. Afterwards, I rode across town for a hair cut. Then back across town and rode south of the nearby town Mum and Dad live in. I ordered brake pads for my bike at this little bike shop tucked away out in the country. Left there and stopped at my parents house. Then, rode across the county and took the same ride I was on yesterday with my friend. I didn't make any stops and was able to do it pretty quickly. It is beautiful country out that way. So, I am home now and have a nice sun tan/burn.
Really. I'm not his mom (I don't believe that's possible) and I want to take his keys away.

Yikes Ray. That's a lot on your plate. I'm glad you got some sleep.
I haven't tried them yet, probably tomorrow, but #21 is the first scent my wife approved of.
Really, the first one? True, #23 smells like toothpaste, but she didn't like the Lime Vetiver or the Lavender? By the way, Mom has given up on a mint scent for now -- it appears the initial release scents for GMS shave soap will be unscented, Lime Vetiver, Lemon/Bay Rum, Lavender, and "Cheaha", which was Paul's suggested name for the "Autumn"/#14/#20 scent. She will re-visit the peppermint, sandalwood, sage, and bayberry scents (and possibly rose) after they recoup some capital costs. And while Mom continues to keep the books and experiment with scents, Dad continues to have entirely too much fun with the plodder/extruder, replacing the drive motor and throwing around phrases like "Full Load Amps." He hasn't even turned the machine on yet. He's already designing control circuits for this thing, and... oh well, nevermind, you get the idea. :001_smile
Anyway, so we're switching from Charter to Verizon FiOS for our cable and internet, and Charter shut off our cable & internet a week early, yesterday. Ooooo, Mrs. Soapbox was beside herself. So we were offline last night, due to be restored today, and then I'll have to have to re-schedule the service shut-off. Ugh.
Fortunately I have a large set of movies on the old 5G (video) iPod and the home media (Ubuntu) server, so Little Soapbox got to watch The Fox and the Hound before bed, which suited her fine.
Woke up this morning, got a world-class shave, and I'm back at work -- time to hustle.

World War II is full of plot holes, and the writers should all be fired (http://io9.com/5585549/the-greatest-rant-youll-see-this-week-world-war-ii-is-full-of-plot-holes-and-the-writers-should-all-be-fired)
I think the worst offender here is the History Channel and all their programs on the so-called "World War II".
Let's start with the bad guys. Battalions of stormtroopers dressed in all black, check. Secret police, check. Determination to brutally kill everyone who doesn't look like them, check. Leader with a tiny villain mustache (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BeardOfEvil) and a tendency to go into apopleptic rage when he doesn't get his way, check. All this from a country that was ordinary, believable, and dare I say it sometimes even sympathetic in previous seasons.
I wouldn't even mind the lack of originality if they weren't so heavy-handed about it. Apparently we're supposed to believe that in the middle of the war the Germans attacked their allies the Russians, starting an unwinnable conflict on two fronts, just to show how sneaky and untrustworthy they could be? And that they diverted all their resources to use in making ever bigger and scarier death camps, even in the middle of a huge war? Real people just aren't that evil. And that's not even counting the part where as soon as the plot requires it, they instantly forget about all the racism nonsense and become best buddies with the definitely non-Aryan Japanese.
Not that the good guys are much better. Their leader, Churchill, appeared in a grand total of one episode before, where he was a bumbling general who suffered an embarrassing defeat to the Ottomans of all people in the Battle of Gallipoli. Now, all of a sudden, he's not only Prime Minister, he's not only a brilliant military commander, he's not only the greatest orator of the twentieth century who can convince the British to keep going against all odds, he's also a natural wit who is able to pull out hilarious one-liners practically on demand. I know he's supposed to be the hero, but it's not realistic unless you keep the guy at least vaguely human.
So it's pretty standard "shining amazing good guys who can do no wrong" versus "evil legions of darkness bent on torture and genocide" stuff, totally ignoring the nuances and realities of politics. The actual strategy of the war is barely any better. Just to give one example, in the Battle of the Bulge, a vastly larger force of Germans surround a small Allied battalion and demand they surrender or be killed. The Allied general sends back a single-word reply: "Nuts!" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_McAuliffe#Battle_of_the_Bulge). The Germans attack, and, miraculously, the tiny Allied force holds them off long enough for reinforcements to arrive and turn the tide of battle. Whoever wrote this episode obviously had never been within a thousand miles of an actual military.
Probably the worst part was the ending. The British/German story arc gets boring, so they tie it up quickly, have the villain kill himself (on Walpurgisnacht of all days, not exactly subtle) and then totally switch gears to a battle between the Americans and the Japanese in the Pacific. Pretty much the same dichotomy - the Japanese kill, torture, perform medical experiments on prisoners, and frickin' play football with the heads of murdered children (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_of_Nanking), and the Americans are led by a kindly old man in a wheelchair.
Anyway, they spend the whole season building up how the Japanese home islands are a fortress, and the Japanese will never surrender, and there's no way to take the Japanese home islands because they're invincible...and then they realize they totally can't have the Americans take the Japanese home islands so they have no way to wrap up the season.
So they invent a completely implausible superweapon that they've never mentioned until now. Apparently the Americans got some scientists together to invent it, only we never heard anything about it because it was "classified". In two years, the scientists manage to invent a weapon a thousand times more powerful than anything anyone's ever seen before - drawing from, of course, ancient mystical texts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Oppenheimer#Trinity). Then they use the superweapon, blow up several Japanese cities easily, and the Japanese surrender. Convenient, isn't it?
...and then, in the entire rest of the show, over five or six different big wars, they never use the superweapon again. Seriously. They have this whole thing about a war in Vietnam that lasts decades and kills tens of thousands of people, and they never wonder if maybe they should consider using the frickin' unstoppable mystical superweapon that they won the last war with. At this point, you're starting to wonder if any of the show's writers have even watched the episodes the other writers made.
I'm not even going to get into the whole subplot about breaking a secret code (cleverly named "Enigma", because the writers couldn't spend more than two seconds thinking up a name for an enigmatic code), the giant superintelligent computer called Colossus (despite this being years before the transistor was even invented), the Soviet strongman whose name means "Man of Steel" in Russian (seriously, between calling the strongman "Man of Steel" and the Frenchman "de Gaulle", whoever came up with the names for this thing ought to be shot).
So yeah. Stay away from the History Channel. Unlike most of the other networks, they don't even try to make their stuff believable.

Ray, my prayers for swift healing for your family.

Yikes Ray. That's a lot on your plate. I'm glad you got some sleep.
Thanks, gentlemen. Mom is doing a lot better, and should be home now. It looks like the wife is going to have to wait a week before seeing the doc she needs to. *sigh*
She says the Lime Vetiver is nice, but she really likes the BRCitrus. The others she didn't think smelled manly enough. Yet, she loves my SCS Rose AS.
[QUOTE=soapbox;2233683By the way, Mom has given up on a mint scent for now -- it appears the initial release scents for GMS shave soap will be unscented, Lime Vetiver, Lemon/Bay Rum, Lavender, and "Cheaha", which was Paul's suggested name for the "Autumn"/#14/#20 scent.
I must disagree. When I first smelled the two most recent soaps, #23 instantly hit me and my wife as the one to try first. After whipping up a nice lather we both agreed that it had the scent of Andes mint candy, not the chocolate mints but the other ones that are green colored.
