Maybe some are electric, I don't know. I haven't seen them myself.
Nope, just wind up.
I will set something up and see what everyone thinks.
According to our wiki (here (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Stahly_Live_Blade)) as well as what I could find on google, no electrics. All wind up.
:thumbup1:
Drats! What has become of us?
Well, as noted, it is our little corner of a shaving website. Talking shaving was bound to happen sometime.
Okay, anyone that wants to be in on this, PM me with your email.

Isn't the crystal deo's basically the same thing?
Essentially. Crystal deo may or may not be a diff. form of alum (ammonium alum as opposed to potassium alum) depending on which brand you buy. But, both forms accomplish the same effects. Crystal deo also tends to be much less expensive, can be gotten at your local drug store, and comes in a handy dandy plastic propel-repel tube.

Yeah, I recently broke mine. I bought the one I am using now in mid-December. Last month, I finally had to advance it for the first time. It was stuck and would not advance, so I used a little force. It still works, but I have to watch it or the center will fall out. :001_rolle

Ah, but did it have a hello kitty on the stock?
Nope, but she did have her name in purple calligraphy.
I forgot to mention....I also saw a gold toggle for $18. First time I had ever seen one of those, pretty neat. Everything seemed to work OK, but since I am not a collector, just a user with RAD (and ASAD) and now RBAD, I left it in the case.
I'll take it!
I'd like to try a Toggle -- I'd gladly pay you for the Toggle and your time, and shipping; as long as it's mechanically good/very good. Keep your eyes peeled!
OK, I'll be second on the list.
uh, I'll take it...
Or third...
I'll keep that in mind. I doubt I'll be back at that store anytime soon as it is a 50 minute ride north, but I will keep an eye out for any in the future. This one was in pretty good condition from what I could tell. I worked the mechanism, since I had never seen one before. It needed some clean up, but the plating looked good.
I'm gonna get my wife to take some pics of the new razors, and hopefully one of you can help me figure out my mystery razor.
I'll pay you for the gas and your time!?!? Let me know.

They really had more razors at that location than I have ever seen there. I was surprised. It was the largest variety of DEs I have come across.
You need to take pics with a mobile phone and immediately upload them for our review! :thumbup1:
You know, your Toggle find reminds me of one of my greatest regrets in this hobby. I went to have Lasik surgery a short time after joining B&B. I had it done in Indy. So, while down there, Mrs. Blackfoot and I went to some antique stores. This was the first time I had went to an antique store in search of razors and I knew virtually nothing about their values. I found one like below, in great shape, for $20. I passed it up. Many months later, I discovered how much they were worth and I gave in to the fact I had become a collector. Just a couple of months ago, my wife went down there for business and I asked her to stop by and get that one. They had sold it only a week or two before she arrived. :thumbdown

Interesting? It looks like a Nazi torture device!
:yesnod:
Correct on #1.
#2, it was probably state-of-the art at the time... cloth wrapped. But, of greater concern = wet shaving + ungrounded electric motor (and GFI were about 60 yrs in the future).
edit #3... getting the cord tangled and hacking through it with the razor plugged in. That would be shocking, to say the least.
Good info for now, but in the 1920s when these beasts came out? Fuse boxes man, and that's if they were wired correctly to begin with (or didn't have a penny stuck in them to overcome a blown fuse).
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm frequently wrong), but weren't fuseboxes to protect the equipment, not people?

A little of both. Where fuse boxes are used today, like cars, yes, they are more for the equipment. Older ones served the same purpose as modern breakers though. So, the real purpose was to prevent overloading the wiring and equipment, thus preventing fires and saving people.

Picked up a Jim's Original polish sausage and a Vienna Beef hot dog in Chicago. Couldn't stay in my "parking" space as a Chicago parking patrol was waiting for me to leave or write a ticket.
So I headed over to the DesPlaines oasis on I-90. Cub's game just got out so there are a lot of fans here. Now that I have set that stage for you, I am absoposolutley astounded at what passes for a skirt or shorts around here. Some of these young ladies are dangerously close to being illegal and others are just downright scary.
Guess I shouldn't play fashion cop, but it just makes me wonder what some of these people are thinking.

I'll be getting GMS shave soap #23 this week, as should the test committee. 22's lather was a little "sticky" and lacking in sufficient slip, especially compared to #21, so it might be pointless to send 22 out. Interesting though; the recipe was very similar between 21 and 22, and so too with 23. Fortunately, I think this means Mom and Dad are down to brass tacks with the recipe and manufacturing processes. Still, can't wait for the feedback on 21 and 23.
None of the pucks are milled yet, though. The experimentation and setup of the machinery continues.

I think I'm just going to start quoting the updates from the site except for when we personally talk or visit with them and have something else to share.
Again, I personally thank those of you who are praying or have prayed for Emily, my daughter is looking very forward to her being home!
Sorry I haven't posted but the weekends Emily doesn't have any therapy (45 min on Saturday) and she is getting to be quite a handfull but this is what happened over the weekend. Keith is working on Emily's bedroom. It will be finished before she comes home so she can have all her friends spend the night. The sphagetti dinner and auction at her school that benefited Emily was more then we could dream of. Once again we are overjoyed with the love and support and we would like to thank everyone who came to the dinner and auction but especially for those who lift Emily up in prayers daily. Emily is really starting to talk up a storm. She told her daddy "I love you" and "I miss you". She loves to go for walks and enjoys going out to see different things. Today she is schedule for an MRI - don't know what time it is yet - which is so frustrating because last time Emily got something to eat was midnight. Please pray that the MRI results will allow her c collar to be removed and the skull fracture did not put any pieces of her skull in her ear canal so she won't need surgery later. I will post when I learn the results of her MRI - which will be today they told me.
Thank you all again for praying for Emily.
We love each and everyone of you!
Love Keith, Cathy and Emily

Pardon my newbness, but what's GMS? I'm guessing your parental units are in the soapmaking scene?
Yep. Parentals being known around here as Col. & Mrs. Col. Soapbox (they are not members... yet.)
Linky (http://www.gmsoap.com/)
Their bath soaps are great (with both tallow and glycerine versions), especially during the Winter/dry skin season. Some of us are beta testers for an as-yet-to-be-finalized shave soap.

I see. It's true, none of them are particularly compelling. But let's face it: when you pick up a Crichton novel you aren't looking for deep, human characters. You just want to be entertained.

This was something that surprised me about reading Bram Stoker's Dracula. The characters were so one dimensional. In fact, Dracula was the most interesting character in that book. It makes me wonder how it became such a important classic.

The toggle is now in my possession. It works well, but needs a lot of clean up. There is plate wear, apparently the previous owner really loved this razor, but I do not see any damaged that would keep this from being a usable razor. That may take the bite out of some of your interest, I don't know. Let me know.

Depending on who gets dibs, I'm mostly interested in how they shave. Plate wear is less of a factor for just knowing how well it works, or if it's just another adjustable Gillette.

:thumbdown

Skklog looks funny in a dress.
This was something that surprised me about reading Bram Stoker's Dracula. The characters were so one dimensional. In fact, Dracula was the most interesting character in that book. It makes me wonder how it became such a important classic.
You have to consider when it was released (1897).
Of course you can't see it here, but I got quoted twice in a Slagle RocknRoll. That's a first for me!
And once again!

we had a HUGE network printer several years ago at work, I took that box and another box home and built a pseudo-two-story playhouse for the kids. I guess it basically amounted to a dormer that the oldest could stand up in (almost 4 at the time) and look out the top.
I probably wasted lovingly used 5 rolls of DT on that thing before it was deemed condemned by my lovely bride (I already knew it was a lost cause, but I couldn't throw it out, what with all the money spent on duct tape renovation and all!)

Oh, I'm sure there'll be time for that...
Here's one from Mrs. Soapbox this morning; the little guy was having "tummy time (http://www.babycenter.com/0_tummy-time-how-to-help-your-baby-get-comfortable-on-his-bell_1439985.bc)" (sometimes a source of discomfort for babies, but important for muscle building) and flat fell asleep. Except for when he's hungry, he's a pretty chill little guy, for now. Only disadvantage to this picture is you don't see his deep blue eyes. Little Soapbox's big cardboard-box playhouse is in the background.
There's a site that sells, *ahem* provocative T shirts, and a sub-site that sells baby shirts. While "They Shake Me" is among my favorites, I also greatly enjoy this one

Here's Little Soapbox with Rich's EeePC. She's playing "frozen bubble", sort of. She loves having "her 'puter," as she puts it. She does seem to like the Function keys more than the alphanumeric keys, though. Haven't hooked up a mouse yet, so the touchpad and pointer is still a mystery to her. But hey, Frozen Bubble and (perhaps unsurprisingly) OpenOffice Write are early favorites.

I'd rather he choose to wear a kilt rather than have one put upon him. Especially because Little Soapbox will be asking pointed questions like "Why is he wearing a skirt, daddy?" I'll let him get a feel for his Welsh-Scottish ancestry before forcing a kilt on him.

Now, the post-date MG update. We went for sandwiches, then wandered around Logan's relatively pathetic zoo. It was fun, though the conversation didn't seem as natural as usual. I figure attaching the stigma of a "date" may contribute to that. For some reason a legit date just feels different from hanging out. Anyway, it was good. I suspect there will be another date in the not-so-distant future. Are you all satisfied now?
