Oh, I suppose it doesn't matter, but I use 1 to 1.5 shots tequila and the rest soda w/ ice cubes in an (I think) 6 oz glass. Crushed ice would no doubt work too.

You've had a very unusual problem, as far as I can tell from here. Partitioning is usually straight forward and error-free. If you really want to dual boot you can also go the system commander route (if they still make that), but it's a bit redundant. GRUB can easily handle dual booting, it's just that MS doesn't always play nice if you don't do it correctly.

And it's not so bad really, since I still technically have all my files. I just can't open Windows. I suppose if it comes down to it I can just put all the important files on an external HD and reformat my hard drive, then start from scratch. The prospect is kind of refreshing.

Okay, MG update time. She texted me, and apparently she wasn't really in a place where she could talk when I called. Now we're just texting back and forth. I think I'll have to wait until tomorrow to ask.

You can't say much for brake pads. That is a basic that needs replaced now and then and God knows when dad replaced them last.

Here (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=151881) is another interesting thread some of you may be interested in. Julie, who makes Dirty Bird Scuttles (and other pottery items) donated a scuttle for us to pass around and try out. Several have bought one and then not found it worthwhile and others won't go without. So, this gives us an opportunity to try it out before shelling out the cash for one. If any of you want in, you have to PM by the 30th.

and a severe_storm_and_tornado_de-generator, apparently

Hey, that reminds me. That storm we had the other night, I was right about it. There were six confirmed tornadoes that touched down that night. There were several injuries, including one firefighter, but no deaths. Of course, there was a lot of property damage, homes, barns, businesses, the usual. There was also a historic town hall hit. I am rather proud to say the tornadoes were mostly right where I had predicted they would be too.

Then strike man, strike! Do not let the enemy escape! Move your brigade in a flanking movement to her right and cut her off from retreat! The battle can be won, the victory is yours!

well, now my car is running again, coupling for a heater hose broke (happened to the other hose last summer...hmmm, hope it's not a trend), replaced it and it actually works - I think I tricked it into believing it wasn't me doing the repairs :001_unsur :thumbup1:

then before turning the car off and closing the hood, I noticed a crack in the windshield....I know it's a new crack, and wasn't there before, because it goes right through the driver's side field of vision - I definitely would have noticed it (as if I'd've missed that big of a crack anywhere else)(yeup, left the low fruit there for somebody to grab...)

Well, dang if that don't just suck

Question is, will this affect the SE & DE markets? And if so, how much?

SE much more than DE. I do think that the ASR divisions that produce SE, medical Personnas, and (perhaps) the DEs won't be affected, or will be sold off separately. Bankruptcy may or may not be the end of ASR; it might be a move to restructure debt and reorganize following Wal-Mart's canceling of their contract. I suppose anything not already made in China isn't worth selling, in their eyes.

As Rich noted, there are plenty of DE manufacturers. I'm curious to find out if the "Red Personnas" (Red Pack Israelis, "Israeli Personnas") will be affected, since ASR claims no knowledge of this division.

None of the SE and Injector users will be happy about this.

Yeah, they do shave differnetly (so I hear). I may have mentioned this before or to someone else, but have the head almost flat against your face with just a slight lift of the back (thus angling the blade a hair bit closer to your face than the back of the head) and you should be good to go.

Great. Just when I start getting into SE shaving the Shavepocalypse happens.

I think this has the potential to be an interesting dry run for the shavepocalypse.

I hear Feather makes injector blades. Is this true?

As noted, you have to cut them to size, but the Feather blades will work.

I hear these (http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Feather-AC-Professional-Blade-20-Pack_p_41.html#) are great. I also heard they may need cut down to the correct length, which isn't too big of a deal.

:thumbup1:

What about the Schick blades? Are those Personna made too?

Nope, they're made by Energizer in China.

That is my understanding.

Because Ted Pella makes money selling injectors and SEs to laboratories and researchers, I expect the medical division of ASR will find a buyer if the bankruptcy and inevitable attempts at restructuring fail.

I think one unfortunate outcome would be a run on ASR blades, followed by a corporate buyer thinking there's a real market out there, followed by a complete crash in demand and SE and Injector market dissolution.

You told me that, and that has helped make my SE experience relatively bloodless. The design and shape of the 1912 is just a little different than the push button, so there is just a slight learning curve involved. I need to get some more SE blades.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the market. As with many products, if there's a boutique (niche) market for some product, you might see a new producer enter the market to accommodate them. SEs might not die off -- someone might buy the equipment, get it set up right, and start selling the high quality blades (costing more, but providing a supply of blades for those who want them).

So, there should continue to be a ready supply of these.

The injectors were very popular in Japan. I think there's enough of a residual market there and in the US to provide Energizer with a reason to keep producing them (and charging a buck a blade...jerks).

Frankly, the Ted Pella 4.60 per 20 injectors is a killer deal, compared to the "Schicks" by Energizer.

After church this morning, the wife and I headed over to dinner and then to one of our favorite antique malls. I could have easily spent over $100 in razors today. They had about 20 different razors, most were in good condition. Here's what I found:

2 brass headed, cream plastic handled Schick injectors
a cheap plastic handle Gem
a 1912 Gem missing the cover portion of the head
a black handle super adjustable
2 blue Ladies Gillettes
a gold ball tech
a Frankenrazor
an apparently broken open comb Micromatic
2 black handle super speeds
3 flare tips
an unidentified open comb 3 piece DE
a Schick Krona
a couple others that I don't remember now.

I bought the unidentified 3 piece, the brass head injector & the Super adjustable. I came close to buy some of the others, but decided to stick with those. $30 all together, so not to bad of a deal with the hard to find Super. The funny thing is, the last time I visited that store, they had several injectors and Gems. This was before I discovered how great the Gems and injectors are. This time, it was mostly DEs with most of the SEs gone. My wife is amazed at my (lack of) luck.

first, fixed my car, which I already mentioned; then, mow the yard. Felt kinda good to be able to do yard work again, and the arm never hurt, although it did fatigue faster, which is to be expected for awhile.

came in out of the 1,462 degree heat (relatively speaking, that's what it felt like to me anyway http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif), and dragged myself to the shower.
First up, the tea tree and menthol shampoo...ahh, such a wonderful tingling, cooling feeling on the ol' scalp.
Next, Bath and Body Works Mentha body wash....BRRRRR! (note to self: almost out, need to get more)
Then onto the shave: TSD Iced Sub Zero shave cream followed by hearty splash of Aqua Velva.

Yeah, I was avoiding the ceiling fans for about an hour afterward - 100 degrees outside, and I'm literally "chillin'"

That sounds similar to what you see around here. What's even worse, is most of it is worn on girls who should be too young to wear certain clothes. Some people need to go see the great and mighty Oz.

I'll keep that in mind. I doubt I'll be back at that store anytime soon as it is a 50 minute ride north, but I will keep an eye out for any in the future. This one was in pretty good condition from what I could tell. I worked the mechanism, since I had never seen one before. It needed some clean up, but the plating looked good.

I'm gonna get my wife to take some pics of the new razors, and hopefully one of you can help me figure out my mystery razor.

Picked up a Jim's Original polish sausage and a Vienna Beef hot dog in Chicago. Couldn't stay in my "parking" space as a Chicago parking patrol was waiting for me to leave or write a ticket.

So I headed over to the DesPlaines oasis on I-90. Cub's game just got out so there are a lot of fans here. Now that I have set that stage for you, I am absoposolutley astounded at what passes for a skirt or shorts around here. Some of these young ladies are dangerously close to being illegal and others are just downright scary.

Guess I shouldn't play fashion cop, but it just makes me wonder what some of these people are thinking.

I have a friend at work that went to that game. She was probably a little more on the legal side of skirt length, but not by a lot, if I were to guess. If you are going to go with that look, the least you can do is look like her. What really horrifies me are the ones wearing the exact same size skirt that would fit in a small moo moo dress! I mean really, do these women not realize they literally have rolls (notice the plural) flowing out between top and bottom? :thumbdown

So, while down there, Mrs. Blackfoot and I went to some antique stores. This was the first time I had went to an antique store in search of razors and I knew virtually nothing about their values. I found one like below, in great shape, for $20. I passed it up. Many months later, I discovered how much they were worth and I gave in to the fact I had become a collector. Just a couple of months ago, my wife went down there for business and I asked her to stop by and get that one. They had sold it only a week or two before she arrived. :thumbdown

It sort of looks like a Gillette new, but there is no stamp or any code markings or anything on it. I'm gonna get my wife to take a pic of the new razors, and some detailed ones of the 3 piece. It is open combed, and looks like it was never used.

Here is the list again, minus the Toggle.

2 brass headed, cream plastic handled Schick injectors
a cheap plastic handle Gem
a 1912 Gem missing the cover portion of the head
a black handle super adjustable
2 blue Ladies Gillettes

Correct on #1.

#2, it was probably state-of-the art at the time... cloth wrapped. But, of greater concern = wet shaving + ungrounded electric motor (and GFI were about 60 yrs in the future).

edit #3... getting the cord tangled and hacking through it with the razor plugged in. That would be shocking, to say the least.

You beat me to the "state-of-the-art" thing. However, as a former electrician, let me assure you, that ground wire is highly overrated. There are three wires in a cord, a hot, neutral, and ground. There is a bar on the load center (breaker box) that all the ground wires go to. There is another one for the neutral wires. IIRC, in residential wiring, (I did commercial and industrial, for the record) the neutral bar is grounded to the load center just like the ground bar. Therefore, they are a redundant system.

Here is the real rub, in hospital grade wiring, you have to use hospital grade MC cable. MC cable is flexible metal conduit with your same three wires in it. The metal sheathing acts as another ground. In hospital grade MC cable, there is another very thin aluminum ground wire. Essentially, you have four grounds there. :001_rolle

Good info for now, but in the 1920s when these beasts came out? Fuse boxes man, and that's if they were wired correctly to begin with (or didn't have a penny stuck in them to overcome a blown fuse).

Have I mentioned yet that alum block is just wonderful stuff? In my latest application, it's proving useful against adult acne and oily forehead.

On my forehead, I'd go through one block a day!

I use it that way too, but I tend to use it that way more in cool weather when I won't be sweating as much.

lol. Give it a try... I just rub it on after my witch hazel full-face post-shave splash (do not wash it off, but if you do get some white haze, then damp cloth it). The oil-free effects last me all day.
