Here's a story for you. So I'm at work yesterday, and one of the girls I work with wasn't feeling well, so she was getting ready to go home. As she's about to leave, our manager says to me "Hey Andrew, isn't it your birthday today?" I say "yeah," and this girl says "It's your birthday? I'll get you a present!" and she disappears. In about a minute she comes back with an Andes mint with "Happy B-Day" written on it. I thank her, think to myself "that's awfully nice", and I put the mint in my pocket. Then, right as she's walking out the door, she says "don't forget to check out the back of the mint," and she leaves. So I pull the mint from my pocket, and discover that she had written her number on the back! Then came the moment of simultaneous excitement and dread. I'm stoked she gave me her number, but now I'm kind of nervous to actually do anything about it.

It would be a study of schizophrenia to try to read this thread from the beginning -- totally random/ridiculous thoughts from multiple personalities.

Um, I know you're new here, so I'll be gentle, but
are you dense?!
It's pretty clear she's interested in you, and if you're the least bit interested in her, you should wait until she's feeling better and make plans for the soonest weekend night she's available -- and I'm betting whichever night you select, she'll be available.
She took a big chance offering you her number. If you like her, don't hesitate. Do something simple: dinner/movie, day at the zoo (unless you're terrified of running out of things to talk about), a day hike up some local hill (I've been up at least one just outside Logan that was really spectacular)...depending on what you think she's able/interested in doing.

I'm gonna call her for sure, I just feel like I need to have some sort of plan beforehand. I'm more into starting out in group settings than one on one, but maybe that's not the best strategy. This is probably another one of those cases where I'm just thinking too hard. Generally if I just call without really thinking about it, things go fine.

I'm guessing the correct answer is: just call her and see how it goes. Fine, you talked me into it. I'll call her up when I'm done with work (my other job, not the one I work with her at), and I'll let you know what happens.

+1 Especially about the part of her taking a big chance. Girls are seldom that obvious. There is a horrible amount off mind reading necessary, and you are sure to get that wrong in most cases. You just have to jump. :thumbup1:

Indeed. However, it was Cory (lynchmeister) who came in looking for advice and he lost his small fictional principality. Under our glorious reign, we've added several regions and the peasants are now happy. Good cheddar to all!
I should mention also that since being deposed, Cory has resumed his career as a model for "tasteful" "boudoir pictures" and couch posings.

Well, I figured if I was going to lose out to another guy, he was a worthy one to lose to. He was so cute, I couldn't blame her.
:lol::lol: I wish I had a camcorder for that, it was definitely one of the funniest moments of the weekend.
Well, today was an epic moment in history. That's right folks, I went through airport security without any snags! :thumbup1: We sent my carry-on bag with my parents, so all the stuff, like my tripod, was with them this time. I just had my camera backpack. How that ever gets through I will never know, considering all of the camera gear in it. I was wearing linen pants and shirt and sandals. All I had in my pockets was a wallet like thing I carry on vacation that holds ID, two cards, and incorporates a money clip. I also had a watch. I also had Skklog's kite. He likes to fly stunt kites and busted his on the beach yesterday. So, in our last time in Myrtle Beach, we went to some huge mall called Broadway On The Beach, IIRC. He replaced/upgraded to a new stunt kite. It didn't fit in his bag and since I only had one bag, I had to carry it. One of the TSA officers asked me what it was, but it was out of curiosity, not security. Of course, it took everything I had not to say, "My collapsible sniper rifle." That would have given you all the story you were waiting for for sure. The really funny thing is, I was a little disappointed at getting through so easily.
:blink::lol:
Our return flight was much better! We were in row seven, which is actually the third row. I don't get that. :001_huh: But, the view was great and it amazingly quieter.
No gremlins? (Skklog doesn't count.)
A year and a half ago, just before I joined here, my wife worked in Grand Rapids for about seven months. It sucked! But, she came home on the weekends and I went up there on my days off, which were never weekends back then. I love that area and really want to move there. So, we got to show my brother where she worked and her apartment and took them to our favourite restaurant.
Here is a funny story: Mrs. Blackfoot and Skklog went with my dad to go get a rental car. They took longer than expected, so Minxie and I were left to get our stuff packed and our room empty. We had ten minutes to check out. From what we were told, if you are late, they charge you a whole other night. So, we hurried. As we were leaving, she pointed out some change that she said was mine. Oh, I didn't realize. So, I started to put it in Mrs. Blackfoot's bag. I suddenly got a selfish streak and thought, if I did, she would keep it. I don't use or carry change. I put it in a sorter and collect it. This is how I have purchased most of my guns and several of my swords. So, I zipped the pocket back up and opened the smallest pocket on my carry-on bag. Right there staring back at me was my car and house keys! As I said, this bag was going with my parents. Had I not found that, we would have landed in Grand Rapids, Michigan with no way to get home or way into our house if we did! Man oh man, did we luck out on that one!
Another Blake misadventure miraculously avoided.
That was one of the highlights of our trip. The hotel had a free continental breakfast. My grandma brought a bunch of precooked bacon. Every morning, we would go downstairs and get stuff from the breakfast and head to grandma's room and microwave bacon!
Why am I not surprised?
Oh, let's give Blake a break today. After all, he deserves it after spending all vacation with his pants on.
So he says.
Let me get this straight... Blake wears long pants in Myrtle Beach and no pants in Indiana?
 :out:
Really weird, isn't it?
You guys, with the discussion of linen pants, you scare me.

Okay, update time. I called the mint girl this afternoon, and we chatted for about half an hour. Conversation was good. She's feeling better, by the way. Anyway, she had to take off kind of abruptly and said she'd call me back. Still haven't heard back from her, which makes sense since she's working tonight. Still, so far so good.

Excellent Edit, though it is still lacking a bit. You should search back and find some of the celebratory posts that Skklog posted.
*ahem* you need to post more flair for such a momentous post, mmmkay?
Definitely is, except it's sort of like a rope -- many threads have been folded in to The "New" Anything Thread, adding size and strength...and unreadability.
Precisely. I'm sure it will continue to grow until it envelops the whole of the universe.
Call, Call, Call!!!!
It would be a study of schizophrenia to try to read this thread from the beginning -- totally random/ridiculous thoughts from multiple personalities.
:lol: Yet it makes sense to most here.
:lol: Seriously don't be a wuss, just call her.
I'm guessing the correct answer is: just call her and see how it goes. Fine, you talked me into it. I'll call her up when I'm done with work (my other job, not the one I work with her at), and I'll let you know what happens.
Yup!

It's:
free
not a microsoft product
bug fixes and updates are released much much faster
no linux viruses or trojans in the wild
security is much much better
it's open source
no blue screen of death
no need to reboot every time you update something
no spontaneous OS crashes
It can run a 20-core/12 display set up without breaking a sweat (ask soapbox).

I wouldn't call Linux a hobby. It's more of a deliberate choice, one with costs and benefits.
I'm an old-line Mac guy -- user since 1986, Apple user since 1981. I really like Mac OS X, and Macs comprise the bulk of my computers, but I use, like, and prefer Linux for several applications. Not to mention, as Rich said, I use it at work to do really neat stuff.
Linux users have reputations -- deserved, mostly -- of being geeky, counter-cultural, a bit snobbish, rabidly anti-Microsoft, just plain rabid, and possessed of odd sense of humor. So, hey, I fit right in, except I'm less counter-cultural than many, and I use several OSes.
BUT, Linux is ready for prime time. It's a fine Desktop OS, which was not the case a few years ago. There are fewer and fewer things you can't do with Linux, and most of them are no longer of consequence for the average user. You want .NET? There's Mono. Flash? no problem. Java? at least three implementations exist for Linux. Office? Pfft, OpenOffice is better than MS Office for most tasks, and it completely supports MS Office file formats. Photoshop? Use the GIMP. And the list goes on.
Best of all, you can try Linux (Ubuntu, for instance) while making no changes to your computer, via a LiveCD. All of the OS can run from the CD/DVD so you can try it out. Free.
Linux is worth a look for everyday users now. I'm glad to see it.
Most Linux discussions and tech support take place in the nearly-as-epic-as-The-Anything-Thread Linux Mint thread (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=33972).

We bought her two pairs of shoes, a picture puzzle (she loves these) and a sand/water play table (http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_id=1304) for her birthday. Wish we could have bought her a swingset, but it's not in the finances this year.

True, but an outcast just the same.
Seriously, let me give you my endorsement. As Jesse and Rich can testify, I know very little about anything technical when it comes to computers. It saddens me at work when I look like I am the expert. If I know more than most of them, that is sad. So, a lot of the greatness that is Linux is lost on me. Me using Linux is like buying the very best D-SLR (professional camera) and leaving it in Auto Mode all the time or an I-phone and only using it to make phone calls. That being said, I love Linux. I don't have any problems like I used to with Windows. As a photographer, Photoshop just confused me and I couldn't do much of anything. Gimp, however, is pretty easy to use. I like the Office programs, I don't get any viruses, it updates easy as pie, and the list goes on. When there are problems, I always get great advice over in the Linux Mint thread. I have been able to fix problems, with their help, that would have just meant hardware replacement if I was running Windows. And, as Jesse said, I think Microsoft is the axis of evil and love the fact I am not contributing to their empire. Maybe the most important thing is, it's free!
My only real complaints with Linux are 1) I can open Word Documents in OpenOffice but not vice-versa. 2) I had a couple of things that took an extra step or two to get going. I wouldn't have been able to do it, but the guys here walked me through without any problems. :thumbup1:
Okay, on to my latest complaint. I got woke up by the phone four times between the hours of 1500 and 1700. Since I was not expecting to go to work last night, I hadn't slept like I should have. So, I needed the sleep. Fortunately, I fell right back to sleep each time. In fact, I don't remember even setting the phone down a few of the times.
I am having a slight problem. Long story short, I switched cell phone companies and my wife just didn't get a phone since she has one for work. So, some companies are not getting through on her old number and are calling mine. I don't know what is going on! My wife handles the business stuff. We tried to do it together when we were first married but we decided it was best for our marriage if she just handled it. She is more educated in that stuff and knows how to get things done. I am much more organized and couldn't figure out her system...because there was no system. :cursing: Now they want answers and decisions from me and I have no clue.
Okay, ranting over. It is a beautiful day out. Hopefully I can ride the bike to work tonight!

@Blake.... I'm sure you realise this, so 'scuse me for stating the obvious, but the issue with opening open office documents in Word is, of course, Microsofts fault for not adhering to defined and accepted standards for open documents format (MS has continually tried to redefine that standard so that only Word would work). However, there is a work around if you need intercompatability: in open office save the document either as MS (doc or docx) format or save it as "rich text" (*.rtf).

This is so confusing. On the schedule, I was supposed to work last night. On my PTO request, I did not have the night off. On the same slip, my return date says I was not to work last night. I accidentally wrote the wrong date and my boss corrected it. I thought it was my fault, but I now see I clearly stated I was not coming back until tonight. He is the one that messed up. To make matters worse, I stepped into a hot skillet! Work was crazy last night. Psych patients kept coming in, one after another. I thought there would be no end to it. But, I survived and am home. *sigh* I need to find a new job.

"Rich Text Format" -- a fairly solid subset of the original MS Word document format. It's a very good format unless you're doing really complex documents (multiple chapters, etc.). But .DOC is probably the best choice.

Very long, very frustrating couple of days, so lets get started here before there are any more pages.
Linen pant, man purses...what has this website come to. I thought B&B was about manliness! Now, wait just a minute...oh, yeah, well...I guess you're right.
:thumbup1:
Oh dear, here we go again. I just got out of a class where we studied problems of identity (who am I?) and phenomenality (is this real?) in literature, and wouldn't you know it, we studied Alice in Wonderland. Now it's all turning back on me. I don't know who I am anymore! Am I a caterpillar? Maybe I'm a feudal peasant. Am I still in Badger and Blade, or some strange sort of wonderthread? Maybe I'm imagining all of this! Oh look, a white rabbit wearing an Omega Seamaster!:confused::confused:
And then wait until you study psychoanalysm, escapism and marxism as it applies to literature. Think of the term papers!
Here's my latest update on the Mint Girl, henceforth to be known as MG. MG called me up last night, true to her word, and we talked for a while. She mentioned that she was free today and would be game to get together and do something. I already had plans to hang out with my brother today, who was coming up to visit. I mentioned this to MG and told her I'd give her a call if we were doing anything fun. So my bro and I are hanging out today, and we decide we'll get Jamba juice (which was only a dollar today:thumbup1:) and watch a movie. So I call up MG and let her know that's what we're doing, and ask if she wants to join us. She was interested, so we picked her up and proceeded with the evening. It was really fun. We all had a great time, and there was even some CTTI (casual touch that isn't) from MG. You know you've got a keeper when you find a girl who will happily sit through Terminator 2!

Man, work has been crazy (Amusing since my primary job is to deal with Psych patients.). Even the police have been busy. Everyone keeps pointing out that we haven't been in any of the usual prerequisites for this kind of activity. It isn't a full moon, it has been warm but not hot, it has been raining off and on, it's not a weekend. It has been the exact opposite of the normal factors that seem to create busy nights.
I forgot to tell a story from last night. I man asked me a question and I told the police officer standing nearby that I knew I recognized the man. It suddenly hit me. He was a kid I went to school with.
I was a very quiet, nerdy kid in school. I was also one of the shortest kids. For whatever reason, I got picked on a lot. I was in fights almost weekly. That is part of what led my parents to home school me my last three years. Anyhow, I was not confident and thought I was a wimp. Looking back, I don't know why. In all the fights I was in, I never lost a single one. I got bailed out of a few, but the only times I needed that were usually five to one odds.
This kid was a bit of a stoner. He was tough and no one messed with him. But, he was one of the good guys. He was one of two people that would bail me out. I one time had six kids trying to throw me in the pool. I held my own for what seemed like an eternity. Finally, I was losing ground and got taken down. I was still putting up a fight, but it was basically over for me. I couldn't see, but I heard a very loud crack/thump sound. When I looked up, this kid was using a hairbrush and beating the hell out of those kids. I mean, he really gave it to them. He threw one kid who almost went in the pool himself. Once the kids finally got away from him, he walked over and held out his hand to help me up and asked if I was alright. He wasn't a friend. We didn't have mutual friends. He was simply sticking up for the little guy. He did that a couple of times for me. I will never forget that and am eternally grateful. I never had the guts to tell him this. Here he was in front of me and I didn't know what to say. It makes me feel bad. I just gave the usual chit chat about how have you been, what are you up to, etc.
It was funny, he hadn't changed a bit and still looked like a stoner. He couldn't get over how different I was. I am not even close to the same person I was back then. And thank God for that!

Where I'd never been before,
Wrapped in satin sheets and lying on a marble floor.
I asked a man on a unicorn
Who appeared from beneath the bed
If he knew what was going on,
and this is what he said:
Someone somewhere went to sleep
And dreamed us both alive.
But dreams get pushed around a lot,
And I doubt if we'll survive.
We won't get to wake up,
Dreams were born to disappear;
And I'm sure that neither one of us is here..."

Plus, hey, I post pictures of my kids in here, so I'll be saying nothing negative about posting puppy pictures!

Are these words we need to use when speaking to Intrigued?
Is Blake a member there, too? :001_huh::blink:
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
All we wanna do is eat your brains.
We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes
All we wanna do is eat your brains.
We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We'll all come inside and eat your brains.
Arming myself right now.
Wif yo pants on da groun
Cool nerd song, IMHO.
:lol::lol::lol:
My wife says that the only one of you people that she knows exists is Blake. She is not really sure if the rest of you exist. Apparently, Between Blake, Skklog and myself, there is a major multiple personality disorder.
That's certainly a possibility. OTOH, having more than one username is a B&B TOU violation.
Unless the mods and admin are also part of our disorders.
That would make a lot of sense.
Oh, excellent point by personality #34!
Ah, touche'!
They are just further evidence of the depth of the neurosis there, Sally (Field).
It is always telling when one of the personalities denies the fact that he/she is indeed just a figment of someone's imagination.
Especially when one pretends of be a mod shrink.
Or imagines....
Just remember: You don't need to outrun the zombies. You just need to outrun the slowest person.
I know I exist. Or do I?...
The car died today. :glare: Our only car. :mad3: But, our neighbors sprung into action to get it home, helped diagnose the problem (fuel pump), and are helping to fix it. Neighbors that are kind + have tinkering as a hobby= awesomeness.
But eventually you could run out of people who are slower than you, then what?
Are you sure? If you ever get a chance to listen to a Jim Stafford song called "None of Us Are Here", listen carefully to the words...
"I woke up in a mansion
Where I'd never been before,
Wrapped in satin sheets and lying on a marble floor.
I asked a man on a unicorn
Who appeared from beneath the bed
If he knew what was going on,
and this is what he said:
Someone somewhere went to sleep
And dreamed us both alive.
But dreams get pushed around a lot,
And I doubt if we'll survive.
We won't get to wake up,
Dreams were born to disappear;
And I'm sure that neither one of us is here..."
Obviously you picked your neighborhood carefully...
Exactly, shoot the guy next to you in the leg and your odds improve greatly!
Hopefully they get it fixed soon.
Oooh, devious.
I refuse to think deep thoughts until tomorrow.
And our neighborhood is generally fantastic.
+1 on all accounts.
It looks like it will *probably* get fixed in the morning. All the parts that needed to come off are off, replacement parts in place, now it just has to get put back together.
Very. Devious and cunning. Like Baldrick, Blake always has a cunning plan.
A devious, cunning plan is the prime directive of blakeshido.:001_cool:
 :sneaky2:
Well, I am off to work. It is my Friday!
Hmm.... that sounds neither devious nor cunning. :sosp:

Not even a little. Blakeshido should have a cunning plan to avoid such nonsense. Unless, of course, there will be tomfoolery.
or shennanigans.
You need to keep everyone confused. Predictably equals vulnerability.

The sad thing is, I am no expert either. I make plenty of mistakes and have several questions. I know more than most apparently. For example, I know to start a sentence with a capital letter, to put a space after punctuation, the difference between a plural and a possessive, to use the correct tense, That is it is "So&so and I", not "me and So&so", etc. I just get confused about some of the proper uses of a comma and semicolon. Things like that. The list a made above is completely foreign to the officers I work with, and most of them went to college. And how many times do I have to tell them we are not allowed to use abbreviations in report? :cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing:

Well, I am quite proud of myself. It took me several hours, but I completed a chart (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Safety_Razor_Database#Organized_by_Year_of_Product ion) that organizes Injectors by the year of production. This was, by far, the most complicated thing I have done in the Wiki. It amazes me how much work went into something that looks so simple.

Wildwood flower grew wild on the farm
And we never knowed what it was called
Some said it was a flower and some said it was a weed
I didn't give it much thought
One day I was out there talkin' to my brother
And I reached down for a weed to chew on
Things got fuzzy and things got blurry
And then ev'rything was gone
Didn't know what happened but I knew it beat the hell
Out of sniffing burlap
