July will be one year give or take without the little fur ball. He dropped out just before (or maybe just after) our Vegas meet up last July.

Had a pretty creepy restaurant experience just now. Place was an absolute dump. We just wanted some ice cream. Mine was all ice crystally and the ice tea was the worst I have ever had. I could tell (from my brewing days) that it had developed a rope bacteria from refilling the dispenser without cleaning it first. My stomach is still a little queezy.
To top it off, my wife and I both kept having Texas Chainsaw Massacre flashbacks. There was no one else in sight, stuffing was poking out of seats, our table was dirty and the floor hadn't been mopped since WWII.
The name of the place was Heads Cafe. We couldn't help wondering if they wanted to add our heads to their collection. :yikes:

Court ordered actually. That ended when my therapist got committed shortly after taking me on as a patient.
I didn't expect mine so soon. It has been so long, I almost didn't think it would ever really get here. It's nobody's fault, just a long process.
Oh, don't take it as me being impatient with them. More like "Is it here yet? Is it here yet?" kind of impatient. I know this took a lot of work to get together and the guys have day jobs to boot.

Okay, I forgot to tell my story. Sam 1 (What we call our helicopter, Samaritan I and Samaritan II) had a neonate flight last night. They had to stop and our north hospital, which is where we are currently building the Regional Medical Center, a huge facility. Our NICU has already moved out there. Sam had to stop and get the equipment and a NICU nurse and make a ten minute flight to the hospital the patient was at. Okay, there is set up.
Sam got to North but was unable to land. Because of construction, they have a temporary landing pad that is nearly a half mile from the building. FAA regulations demand a strobe of flare at all four corners of the LZ (landing zone). They could not find any. Sam was circling in the air for nearly twenty minutes. We were watching with our cameras at the main unit. Apparently, the security officer out there got for flashlights and set them on strobe to get them down. As they took off, we were called and told to get them some strobes.
I was about to go to lunch and the cafeteria was only open for ten more minutes. That is when I got a call. I was specifically requested for an assignment. I was to get to the Ground Shop and find flares. Whether I found them or not, I had to get to North with the strobes. We had about a half hour. It was ten minutes before I could get the van because it was being used for a transport. I already had guys looking for flares and spent ten minutes or so looking for them myself. We couldn't find any. I now had less than ten minutes to get out there and it takes more than twenty.
I called the Captain and said I was leaving without the flares. I was given magical orders at this point. Blake, this is why you are doing this. Get out there as fast as you can without getting a ticket. Knowing I can't hardly get a ticket on third shift because I am friends with most of the police officers in the area, I knew what he meant. I said, "I noticed you didn't say not to break any traffic laws." The only response, "No, I didn't. Get out there." And that I did! I have never drove like that through a city before in my life!
In the past, when I drove fast, I had the sound of sirens blaring. I thought about that and remembered how much I loved being on the fire department. So, I flipped on the radio. What more could I ask for? Flirting with disaster by Molly Hatchet! I almost called dispatch myself to tell them. There was a particular sergeant working that I knew would help me, but I decided I better not get him into trouble.
Even after getting there, it was fun. The officer out there really didn't know how to properly set up an LZ so I showed him. Not much to it but hey. The medic with the ambulance was a friend that worked for Huntington County when I was on the fire department. We had fun. Apparently, know one out there really knew how to use the equipment beside him and I. So, things worked out pretty well.
There was the usual craziness throughout the night. But, that was the interesting one. The one part that sucked was, the cafeteria had had wings, the very best thing they make! They only make them once every month or two and I missed them! That actually made me a little mad. But, it was a fun night.

Well, today has been interesting. I woke my wife up this morning to see if she wanted to get breakfast. So, we got dressed and rode the bike into Fort Wayne and had a delicious breakfast.
After that, we had no plans so I decided to cruise around town. The plan was to slowly make our way home. However, we decided to stop by my friend's house. He was at work, so we rode over there. He decided to close u the store and we went back to his place. We had been wanting to get together so I could teach him to pass the road test to get his motorcycle endorsement. Another friend decided to meet us to practice also.
I think they both did a great job. The one only drives a scooter at this point. So, he laid my friend's bike down once. Otherwise, they both did great. If I could work with them a little more, I am sure they would pass. That isn't going to happen, but they still have a good chance.
Suddenly, it got dark. I got my wife and we geared up and took off. Too late! Riding a motorcycle = Fun. Riding a motorcycle in hail = Not Fun. Since I have a windshield, I gave my wife the full face helmet. Perhaps that was not my wisest decision. I now have a bruise over my left eye from a hail stone. :thumbdown The important thing is, I looked the bike over and it is fine. :thumbup1:

My wife & I went to Hanging Rock today. On the way we stopped in a antique store in Walnut Cove, NC. I found a solid marble soap dish with razor/brush stand attached to it. The price was $24.95 and they had it marked 20% off, Bit bad as I have seen these sell for far higher. It came with a marble handled badger brush that matches it. I still probably would have let it stay there, but being sold as a set, it came with a 1912 GEM. So I bought it. :blushing:

Potassium permanganate and glycerine should fit the bill. Or heck, magnesium ribbon and a match. Really, Blake, do Jesse and I have to do all the thinking for you? :tongue_sm

Just back from a wedding weekend in DC with friends. Hugely fun time, saw a bunch of old friends, including Mysterion who graciously brought me a Feather blade since I was traveling carry-on-only. I also packed my Injector in case he wasn't available and I had to resort to CVS.
There was a little mixup and I got put in the Lucite holding pen at the security checkpoint with some random girl while they sorted out what was happening, all the while some TSA employee was saying (pointing at me and the girl) that "no, THEY are green! Not code blue!" which is apparently code for "stop the X-ray line and everyone run around like a chicken with your head cut off for thirty seconds". They opened the pen, patted me down, and I went on my way, with hardly any delay, but it was a tad surreal at DCA today.
Got to enjoy several excellent beers at the Brickskeller too. Hadn't had the Belhaven IPA, and an excellent sour Belgian beer. The wedding celebration had Sam Adams of many varieties, including the Latitude 48, which I hadn't had but is very obviously a response (a very tasty response) to the "60 minute IPA" from Dogfish Head.
But all the while I missed my family -- no way were we hauling the entire clan across the country for two nights in DC. That wouldn't have been as much fun for any of us. And man, the reception I got from my little girl when I got home was just amazing. :crying:
I see not much has changed here. Except Dennis now has brushes with death and Blake is clearly unable to improvise flares and tries to make up for it by driving like a maniac. Hrm.

Okay, story:
We have a new guy and things have been a little slow lately. So, three of us decided to check out some little known areas. This has led to us climbing down through plenum walls, and elevator shaft, scouring the sub-basement, etc. We have gotten to do this on three or four nights in the last week and a half. I decided to play a game, to give each other missions to accomplish without being caught on camera. There is a practical side to that as it helps us think like the "bad guys".
Well, in these adventures, we found a six foot plus Ronald McDonald. It wasn't long and we had plans of sneaking him around the hospital and taking a picture of him in different locations. This is a terminable offense, BTW. :001_rolle
We decided on our first target. The Safety Coordinator for the hospital started in Security. He has only been in his current position a few months. We have been threatening to do something to his office all along. So, we stole Ronald and smuggled him up the the second floor office. There, one officer took his shirt and put on him and we snapped a few photos. This was sent out in an Email to a select few as a Suspicious Person Alert. Doug played right along and responded back to it. It was great!
You have no idea how difficult it is to sneak around with a six and a half foot Ronald McDonald.
We showed this to the ER Charge Nurse who thought it was great. We explained how he was going to be a recurring character for a while. I said he may even appear in the ER. She loved this and came up with a brilliant plan. We are going to put him on a ER bed in an out-of-the-way room. We are going to put him in restraints, cover him with blankets, and put a spit hood on him so he will be almost all covered. We are then going to send one of the Behavioral Health Assessment Team members in to see him. The victim chosen will get a real kick out of it.
It didn't work out tonight because things were crazy! We had four flights with five patients, all within an hour. One helicopter had to standby while we got one of the others off the pad. In addition to that, we had a huge fight on the floor involving a man with too many girlfriends present at the same time. Police were called and our House Supervisor over-reacted and got into it with one of our officers. It was a mess!
So, plans are postponed until tonight.

haven't given an update in awhile, not since I put the link in my sig line, but I have to share this one:
2 weeks since the accident, Emily is out of ICU, off the ventilator and meds, in the rehab floor, just praises all around.
there's still concern for her vision, though she is responding to visual and audible stimuli. The doctors have also stated that hers is one of the worst skull fractures they've ever seen, which makes the recovery thus far all the more miraculous. There is still a long road still, but that road looks much brighter and more encouraging than it did 2 weeks ago.
The entire family still needs our prayers, for recovery and endurance, and specifically now for her vision and jaw.
Again, I want to personally thank each of you keeping this young lady and her family in your prayers and thoughts, and encourage you, if you feel so inclined, to send them an encouraging message.
Thank you

OK, here we go:
:thumbup1:
Ow. At least the bike is fine. :001_huh:
As usual, both funny and disturbing. Nicely done.
haven't given an update in awhile, not since I put the link in my sig line, but I have to share this one:
Thank you
I'm so glad she continues to be on the mend.
In other news, we seeded 1/2 the back yard about a week ago, and we already have areas that have sprouted.:w00t: This makes us very, very happy. But it also means we can't leave the house for more than an hour or two at a time because it will dry out and die. :glare: But it will be worth it.
I see Mr. Crafty has yet to check in.

Okay, now the story of three little brushes. When I saw the B&B 2009LE I fell in love. :001_wub: I showed the pictures of them to my husband and told him I was ordering an ebony and he said lets order two of them, so we did. :001_smile But I kept looking at the butterscotch and thinking that sure was a pretty brush. So I ordered one of those too. :blushing: I told my oldest son (who got me started on this whole DE thing in the first place) that he could have one of the ebony ones for his birthday.
Fast forward and the butterscotch was delivered on Sat. What a beauty! :w00t: My husband tried it out this weekend and really liked it. :001_smile Today the two ebony were scheduled for delivery and when I got home from work there sat the box on the counter. :w00t: I opened it and there was an ebony brush :w00t:......... but only one ebony brush.
Where oh where is my other ebony brush. :confused1
I can't use the ebony that came or ship it to my son until I get this straightened out with Nick (which I'm sure I will). But I know how terribly busy he is right now:sad:..........so for now all I can do is look at my little ebony brush and sigh....:001_wub: :crying:
PS I sent a reply on the order complete email I got from B&B explaining the problem. But does any one know if this is a good way to contact them. I know Nick is getting overwhelmed with all the email he's getting. On the one hand I don't want to be a pest but on the other I want to make sure he is aware there's a problem.

Jameson's is a fine Irish Whisky, but not a Scots whisky. Sweeter than scotch, and no smoke.

Though I like Tanqueray also & Tanqueray 10 is my favorite. :w00t:
Tanqueray 10 is pretty nice stuff. When it's hot down South in the Summer, I don't favor scotch -- G&T or beer, or maybe a julep. Juleps are delightfully refreshing (before and a little after you get clobbered by the alcohol content). I make a good julep, but they're a little labor intensive if done right. Fortunately I have my dear departed grandmother's art deco chrome one quart cocktail shaker. It's a pain to clean, but you can make a LOT of julep at once. :biggrin1:

Jameson's is a fine Irish Whisky, but not a Scots whisky. Sweeter than scotch, and no smoke.

We have a guest room and -- with the Gulf of Mexico looking like an unkempt gas station right now -- we're not going on our summer vacation either. Weekend lodging is available almost any weekend you want, a little later into the summer. Dallas is an American Airlines hub. Drinks are on me.
P.S. the ten year old homebrew is really good (even if I do say so myself). I'd buy this stuff for $10 a six pack.

Colonel soapbox likens scotch to kerosene, and won't drink it. He prefers sour mash or bourbon. Mom and I, on the other hand, like scotch just fine. But in the heat, neat scotch just isn't as pleasant as in the winter (even if I sneak in a little with a heretical cube of ice here and there).

First off, homebrew is, in fact, pretty awesome. Mr. Crafty's hobby has ruined other beers for me, but I was never really a drinker anyway. Never liked it. But, I think I might go dip into the stash. Somewhere in there is a nightcap cherry stout.
Second...yeah...alcohol kills germs. Preventative measure, anyone?
And third, 3 razors were added to our shaving den today. One Gillette Super Speed Fliar from '54, one Gillette adjustable from the '70s, and one semi-anonymous Schick, all purchased by Mr. Crafty when he was 15, then stored and forgotten about. Maybe I can look at how to do pictures tomorrow.

The shipping costs were a touch high from Ted Pella, so buying in bulk and redistributing made sense, plus not everyone wanted to buy huge quantities of blades just to try 'em out. I've still got some Ted Pella SEs if you want to try a couple.

I saw the $16 on amazon, but Bull Goose looks even better. I've dealt with them only once (for some SS, what else) and they were great.
It's not a big deal, Blake. They just want to make sure that it's an adult who is ordering and who will be receiving the blades. You (or some other responsible adult*) will have to be home when they deliver to sign for them.
*note my stunning lack of sarcasm here.
That makes some sense, I guess. And lack of sarcasm noted.

I am always up for trying something new.
It is amusing. A similar conversation is going on in another thread right now. They are recommending these (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=27404&catid=89896&trx=PLST-0-CAT&trxp1=89896&trxp2=27404&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-CAT).

I bought some of those recently to compare with the Ted Pella injectors. We'll see what happens.

Apparently Luvmysuper had trouble with the plastic case. I have had trouble with the ones from CVS too.

Mom and Dad just took the wraps off of GMS shave soap #21. I'll get a sample early next week for testing, then if it passes muster, it's off to the Usual Gang of Idiots. Mom's been playing with citrus and bay-rum-type essential oils lately, so we'll see what the stuff smells like. Interestingly, she said the soap lather smells better than the soap puck: that's sort of funny.
Also, GMS ordered a new piece of equipment: a soap plodder, to probably be paired with a mill later. I remain awed and a little nervous at how seriously they're taking this whole shave soap thing. They're spending real money all because I got interested in wet shaving, and they expect to make a profit from it (uh, that's a lot of soap they need to sell, folks).
Also, now I have to learn how to use Pro/Engineer (http://www.ptc.com/products/proengineer/) to design the soap stamp. Gah! I'm being put to work! (Well, they did start college funds for Little Soapbox and SBJr, so I'll shut up now.)

Well, Jesse, I'll say this. I am not a big spender and still have lots of stuff to try. But GMS is still my favourite. With the proper scents, you have a long-term customer here. I am sure that doesn't make you feel any better, but I tried. :001_rolle

 Ooops, sorry. It's sort of an extruder (no relation to Chad) machine, that takes soap and squeezes it really hard into a "billet" or "blank" shape. Here's (http://www.sigmaus.com/plodders/simulation.html) a good tutorial. They'll use it for, among other things, making shave sticks from larger blocks of soap; and, ultimately, it'll be paired with a mill,* so they can manufacture unscented soap and add the essential oils after the soap has reacted and cured -- that way none of the essential oils are affected during the saponification or curing. Plus, it makes manufacturing much easier.

I'm glad the soap is treating you so well! They're trying to make the best shave soap possible. And if that's close to true, the customers will come for the soap. Heh, that said -- every customer counts. I don't think the B&B legions will be able to amortize the costs of development and new equipment right away, but that's okay -- the B&B customer base counts for a lot. They've got their sights on several retail outlets too, of course.

*The eagle-eyed among you will note that this means GMSC will be making "milled soap" at some point in the future.

I have been sitting here bored all day. Yesterday, I went to bed at around 2 because I was bored, no because I was sleepy. I thought, oh good, today is Friday. Mrs. Blackfoot should be getting home a little earlier than normal. Maybe we can watch a movie or something. I don't do that very often.
Well, she just called. Yes, she will be getting home a little early. However, she is only going to be stopping by for a few minutes. Tonight is the Bi-monthly gathering of sisters from our congregation to play games. Some times some of the 'widowed' husbands get together while their wives play. Even if they are planning to, I am sick and can't go out. This blows!
