My friends, I covet your prayers and thoughts: My daughter's best friend was kicked/stepped on the head while feeding their horses yesterday evening. She was airlifted to Little Rock Children's Hospital in an induced coma. Don't know much else at this time other than skull fractures, but a large powerful horse to a 9 year old's head is not good.

Thank you

Prayers on their way.

Sent.

And, if I might offer some unsolicited advice: talk to your little girl a lot. She may need to work some stuff out verbally.

Thoughts and prayers send her way for a full and speedy recovery. I'm including a small prayer that your arm is continuing to heal nicely and is not giving you too much discomfort. :smile1:

Good mojo to her for a complete recovery.

Prayers on their way.

Healing prayers sent for the child who was hurt, and prayers of comfort sent for your daughter...

thanks ya'll.

yeah, we debated even mentioning anything to her this morning, but we decided that it would be better to be made aware by us first instead of hearing who_knows_what at school, which has proven to have been the right call. fortunately for us, my college degree is double major counseling and psychology, and my wife is started in her master's for school counselor...unfortunately, my skills anymore are, well...you know I'm a computer tech, right? :001_smile it's a lot different when dealing with friends and family, and my girl took it really hard when my mother-in-law died, so we're already seeking wisdom in that area.

as far as my arm, it's relatively pain free now that the swelling is gone, still some tenderness, it's a struggle to make myself keep it in the right position, even with the splint and sling, I know different motions can affect it's positioning. thank you for remembering!

we're probably gonna drive up there tonight for a bit, the parents are absolutely frazzled, they live 10 miles from the hospital, the dad was doing cpr all the to the emergency room just to keep her breathing, couldn't wait for ambulance. i can't fathom what they're going through. I can only imagine church tonight being an hour+ prayer session

They're called kilts when guys wear 'em...:lol::lol:

That is a little better, but they really need to be plaid to count. I know, Utilikilt or what ever.

If he hadn't squeaked because he was hungry...well, it might have been a bad night. Also, I haven't found the cute box of "baby's first blasting caps" and "baby's first cap crimpers", and I'm a little worried.

Good and educational toys for children are so hard to come by these days. I dream of owning Jarts someday.

Frivolity and some pictures of SBJr.

And might I add that he's a handsome little devil?

You're not helping with the catching up.

Sorry, it's kind of what I do.

And, I swear we didn't do this intentionally -- but it appears that SBJr already likes camouflage. He's starting with "Playskool Camo" and I assume he'll work up from there.

Okay, that's pretty funny, but hey it's best to start them young.

OK, I just got some of my new windows installed today, and they look like crap!

the windows them-selfs look ok, but their to small. All they did is take out the old window pane, the old frame is still there, so the new windows ( frame and all ) are small enough to fit inside the old frame, so the glass is 3" smaller all the way around, it looks stupid!

I don't know what I'm going to do, them broke alot of the old Windows getting them out, so I can't have them put back in. And I do not want these dump looking things.

Anybody here remember Avon Wild Country aftershave? I found a great source for NOS decanters of it, and a couple of them came in the mail yesterday. Boy, do I smell good this morning!

Avon still makes and sells Wild Country, the last remaining of their old cologne/AS lines. It sells for around $15 a bottle, sometimes they run a special for the cologne & AS. I would prefer to find a good NOS bottle, as it is a lot cheaper in the antique store,.

Looks like I didn't miss much except a bad batch of windows. Sorry about the results, Skklog. If the new windows look stupid -- at least they have a much better insulation value than the old ones. Give it a few days. Don't put the old windows back in; that's throwing money away in two dimensions, or maybe three. Take pictures and post 'em here. We'd like to see (and not to poke fun -- I know, as a homeowner, the precipice upon which we all stand.

Any way, I talked to the window boss guy today. here's the deal, I signed a contract when I agreed to buy windows. so they won't take them back, won't exchange them. what they will do is finish installing them or let me keep them and put my old Windows back in.

keep in mind that if they do reinstall the old ones they will no longer work because the weights were cut and let to fall down into the wall, so they would have to be screwed in place so they won't fall open, and the old tracks are gone. and some of my storm windows got broke.

So I see it as I have two choices, I can just have them installed and live with it or get a lawyer and try to get out of the contract.

The guy wants to come to my house and see what he can do to make things right, but I know he can't /won't order new windows or exchange for bigger ones, so I don't know what he thinks he's going to do to make it right, he may try to give me a discount or something but that doesn't fix the problem. I'll get some pics up tomorrow so you can see if I'm just being petty.

my mom says that they look fine, just a little smaller but to me the room just doesn't look as grand as it did :a36:

The guy told me that all replacement windows (not just theirs) are made to fit in the old frame, keep in mind my house is solid brick, no wood at all so I think that you have to use replacement style windows, so they could have removed the old frame and just used bigger windows, but I may be wrong.

when I was asking him about terms of our contract he said I agreed to this size of window, which is true, the salesmen told me "you need this size", I said OK! but how was I to know that the experts wouldn't know what they were doing.

well, I guess we'll see.

O' and Sol92258, prayers sent.

+1 It totally sucks when a contractor doesn't do the job right the first time, or at least not to your satisfaction. We once had emergency plumbing issues, and when I called the plumber, they said they would come, and right before closing they said they wouldn't come because it was raining. They thought they would have to get up on the roof, so rain is a no-go. The next day he came, but the issue had spontaneously resolved. He looked at me and said, "I don't know what happened. If I had been here while it was happening, I'd know." :glare:

And then I found $5. The end.

I also wanted update ya'll for those interested:
my wife and I got to visit with the parents alone wednesday night after everyone else left. was a good visit, and they got to kinda relax (as much as one could be expected given the circumstances) and talk, not in a medical way, or a "how are you?" way, but in a cathartic, just-let-it-out way. when I told them that there are many not just from our home area, but all over the country who don't even know them, who are praying for them, you can see it in their eyes how much it meant to them.
thank you, everyone.
I will try to keep updates for those interested, as I'm sure this will be a front-burner thing for us for some considerable time.

but, if you're interested, there is a website that is available, the mom is going to keep up to date info on, and has a place for sending messages of encouragement. PM me if you're interested and I'll share the link

things have been day-to-day for them, but so far everything has been positive signs - her eyes are good, swelling is gone, vitals are good. it's still a long road, but every encouragement they receive helps them along.

Thank you all!

I had a great day today. After work, I got the motorcycle out. Our HOA is having a garage sale tomorrow. When they do, the whole town joins in. Many were open today. I walked away with a set of golf clubs - a 9 Iron and a partial set for Mrs. Blackfoot. I have a really nice bag for mine too. I also got an awesome cooler that has a place for hot items in top, wheels, and straps to make it a backpack. I was also able to find a high quality flattening iron for my wife, which I know she has been wanting for some time. I then got drenched in a severe thunderstorm that I had to ride fifteen minutes through.

Well, I went nearly month without mowing and never got a complaint. I was leaving my bike out occasionally too, during the day. However, I am much more careful to not do this since I had stuff stolen out of it. That reminds me, I got into the truck today. It has a problem and I haven't drove it in some time. When I got in it, the console, ash tray, and glove box were all open with things rifled through. This pi$$ed me off! Interestingly, the only things of value in my truck were in the unlocked tool box. This was untouched. It is now locked also. I never locked my vehicles before. Whoever this fish turd is that did this took something from me much more valuable than the $60 or so in gloves and sunglasses. :thumbdown

Boxee (http://www.boxee.tv/) and Miro (http://www.getmiro.com/) are neat! I'm having some issues with Flash video (fancy that), but only in Miro.

I watched an episode of the Simpsons, an SNL sketch, South Park, and I started a Pixar movie from my home collection. Currently installing DVD support and looking into Netflix streaming. I'm using a Bluetooth keyboard/trackball combo and an old standard-def (640x480, approximately) TV. And I like it.

(yeah, I should post this in the Linux forum, but a home media center that doesn't involve a cable box is pretty neat).

Have you looked into a Roku?

I like the idea of the Roku, but I also like being able to "look under the hood" while I'm getting things going. The Roku is inexpensive and small -- both big winners -- but I've got a fairly extensive audio and video library that I've ripped from my CDs and DVDs, and a tower PC supports enough hard drives to contain all that content. Plus, while $130 isn't much money, I already had this PC ready to go, save for a $10 video card from eBay.

Boxee and Miro support a lot of the same content as the Roku, so there's some overlap. If I didn't already use our Wii for NetFlix streaming downstairs, I'd consider a Roku just for that purpose.

Do you own/use a Roku? I've never seen one in person.

Okay, now to report on the day's frivolities (a little nod to a James Bond movie). The association had a garage sale today, as did we. I think we made more than we spent even! :w00t: I bought a lot of golf clubs, a lot. I have a set with 1,2, & 3 woods, and 1 through 9 irons, a chipper, putter, pitching wedge and a 5 hybrid. I may need to pare that down some. I have a nice bag as well. I have a 1 & 3 wood, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 iron, pitching wedge and putter for Mrs. Blackfoot. I do not have a bag for her yet. Now, I have 3 #1 woods, 1 #3 wood, 2 #3 irons, a pitching wedge and a putter that are all extra. Most of these are older clubs, nothing special. Most of mine are higher end ones. Klog said that the were pretty expensive new. Several were from this retired man that obviously golfed a lot! Even at garage sale prices, it would have been nearly $50 bucks for what I bought. However, he offered them for less because it was the end of the day and my wife got him down even further, $15. :w00t: So, my sets were put together from almost five different sales.

That was extremely boring to any of you who don't play golf and equally so for those of you that do. However, after the sales, Klog, Minxie, DrBob, his LOTH, and I went to play golf. It rained like a typhoon the day before and lightly off and on today. Therefore, the golf course was a mess! They were also closed. They had a sign up saying it was free to golf today and we were welcome to use the pull carts. We collected some balls on the driving range and played with that for a while. Then, we took to the course. I think we played about four holes. It was hot and muggy and the sun was now out. Our feet were soaked along with our clothes. This is when Mrs. Blackfoot arrived. She brought water and shorts and sandals for me. This was a huge improvement. Of course, everyone laughed about telling you guys about me getting fed up and taking my pants off at the golf course.

Funny, I sucked really bad. Then, DrBob gave me a few pointers. The most important was not to try to muscle the ball. I discovered when I didn't use a lot of force, I hit the ball a lot further! I do have a nice slice however. So, on the last hole, I was getting a lot better.

Everyone was done, so they left. Mrs. Blackfoot and I set out and played another four holes. I started to get worse again. Then, I remember to be more gentle and started doing really good. On the last hole, I was only 3 over par. That may be pathetic for a par 4, but I was happy!

Now, I hurt like heck! My shoulders, back, and feet ache, I have a blister on my left palm, my right forearm muscles are pulled a bit (Before I got my advice, my swing was hurting my arm more and more as I went.) and I am sun burnt. I am hoping to go again tomorrow! :w00t: :lol::lol:

That's hilarious!!!

Oh yeah, you're hooked! Great scores on the clubs. You have learned the greatest secret in golf... the harder you swing, the less distance your ball will travel.

Funny thing about golf... you can spend the entire day stinking up the course with triple and quadruple bogies, OB drives off the tee, fat iron shots, thinned wedges and be 25 over after 15 holes. Then on your second shot from the 16th fairway you pure your 6 iron from 175 yards out and land the ball 4 feet from the pin. That shot will have made you forget everything that came before it and you won't be able to wait to go and play again tomorrow.

Have fun today. :biggrin1:

I think I was holding the end of the club. The blister is almost straight down from my pinky finger. I felt it at the end of my swing. I think the end of the club was pivoting against that spot. I noticed it when I tried to swing hard. By the time I learned to lighten up, it was too late.

Since we didn't have Wii or PS3, Roku was the best was for us. We really like it. We get Netflix, Pandora and a few other web based free channels, and they are added pay channels as well, mainly sports. It's small and doesn't take up much space.

We will be there from June 11nth to the 14th. We haven't arranged the specifics with Adam as of yet. I suppose it is about time to.

Yes. It is pretty small, maybe 4x4x1"-ish. I like it.

OK TATers, Mr. Crafty and I were doing some yard work today and decided the yard needs some work. We are trying to decide whether to reseed all or part of the yard. If we only did part (about 2/3 of it) we would want to use the remaining part as a garden, but we're a little skittish about that big of a space being used for a garden. Seems like a lot of ongoing work. Currently, we have what you might call a border garden running along the back of the house. Essentially one row of plants. This would be 6-12 much longer rows. Also, it would be full sun with sandy soil. So...grass or garden. Thoughts? Suggestions?

A garden can be a lot of work. But, I really wish I could have one. It has to help with groceries. Plus, fresh homegrown produce always tastes better than the mass produced stuff at the grocery. The real question is, do you have the time to invest I guess.

If you plant a garden -- and I wish I had the time to do something like that -- I'd say plant low-maintenance plants like tomatoes, broccoli, and okra. You can give away or can the tomatoes, and it would be a good idea to plant seeds or seedlings every 7 days so you get ripe produce consistently for a month, instead of a HUGE OMG BUSHELS AND BUSHELS at once, and then you're overwhelmed, and most of the food spoils.

Also, aim low the first year -- it'll take time to get your soil the way you want, and 12 rows of composting and weeding will be a big burden the first year. But then the next year it won't be so bad; so maybe compost and cultivate the soil but only plant 3 or 5 rows?

My advice, as usual, is worth the paper it's printed on. But it's at least something to think about.

Currently, we are growing 3 varieties of peppers, plus various herbs in our little mini-garden. That in itself takes a fair amount of care with the weeding and watering.

After doing some window shopping today, we are leaning towards just grass, and maybe a much smaller area of garden area. We've picked out the type of grass we are getting and now just have to take measurements and all that jazz.

Since my buddy Rich likes injectors so much, and despite my weak experiences with injectors in the past, I gave my butterscotch handle Schick one more try this morning with a Ted Pella injector blade. It did a great job. A touch more maneuverable in some tight spots, too. It may have earned a spot in the rotation.

In other news, I started cataloging many of my razors for sale, including a PIF set to celebrate the birth of SBJr. That's actually how the Injector made it into this morning's shave. I've sort of given up on SE razors, despite Blake's enjoyment of them, but the two Gem Micromatics I have just don't do it for me. Maybe I'll give them one more shot, too. I don't have the time, space, or wherewithal to become a true razor collector, and I've found the five or ten razors that I will keep (including a few for SBJr to use in about fourteen years). I've also got a mammoth collection of varied razor blades I will probably start liquidating as well, since I've found my preferred razor blades too--and since I want to buy another straight razor. :001_smile

Anyone looking for a particular DE? I've got a few that are collection-worthy, but most are fair to very good.

Jesse... just some suggestions if you give the ol' SE a go again... I find that prep is essential x 2. It must be good and cannot be rushed for a good SE shave. Also, skin stretching (more than with a de, but less than with a str8) is also important. YMMV, and all that.

I've found my dream blades as well (astra PT), but I might be interested in trying an exotic or two just for fun.

While you're getting the PIF together to celebrate Jr., don't forget to pack up a little starter kit for him. It might be very cool for him to know that you've been saving it for "the day" (he has his first shave).

It is funny, I am not really a fan of SE's. I started learning and collecting them because it was easier to put together information for the Wiki. Gillettes have so many variables. This year they did this, for three it was called this, etc. I love to collect all razors but am particularly interested in injectors because I have a chance to complete that collection.

As far as looking for some, I am always looking for new additions to my collection. I have dreams of a toggle, but otherwise nothing specific. I will be interested in seeing what you have to put up. :thumbup1:

Here is the thing - you have to use even less pressure than with a DE, and yes you do have to stretch the skin some, but the shaves are well worth it.

Whatcha got? Whatcha got? Whatcha got? Whatcha got? Whatcha got?! :w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t:

Mostly Gillettes plus a few Micromatics and one or two others. Most, as I said, are in fair to very good shape. No Toggles, Bottom Dial 195s, Executives, Senators, Presidents, Bulldogs, Bostonians, or anything from across the pond.

Recall I asked if you were interested in anything specific. I'm getting started on the catalog, and it's only a couple dozen razors. Not that big of a deal. I want to keep a few for myself and my son, but I find that I get great shaves from Merkur razors, and I'm just not using most of my Gillettes anymore (except for the NEW, which is too good to let sit on the shelf). I don't even use my Fatboy, Long-handle Adjustable, or Aristocrat anymore -- and I absolutely love the Aristocrat shaves.

SBJr will need a Blue Tip, a Red Tip, a Fat Boy, and maybe the 1914 Silver-plated Old Type (with nearly no crack at all). But I've got spares of all except the 1914 Old Type.

So: what are you looking for? If I have it, I'll make you aware of the BST sale thread for that razor early.

I was thinking chicken -- I'll have to give that some more serious thought. That, and I've been having this inexplicable desire to stuff a beer can up something.

Ha!

I let out a bark of laughter that made my cat jump.:lol::lol::lol:

My mother has a ceramic self-basting chicken pan (http://www.cnet.com/8301-13553_1-10015784-32.html) that does exactly the same thing as a beer can. She calls it "the chicken violator."

Day two of the Ted Pella / Butterscotch injector went quite well. Rich speaks the truth about the need for skin stretching; the safety bar on my DEs does some gentle skin stretching that isn't there with the injector.

I also re-discovered the faint rush associated with shaving that I currently only associate with straights. The "new experience" feeling. That's kind of nice too.

But once this blade dulls, I'm back to DEs for a blade or two: I just got a pre-2009 Mühle-Pinsel R89 (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=149464) and I can't wait to see if it's really more aggressive than my Slant. If it's really a Fatip-manufactured head, it should really be a [potential] bloodbath. I can't wait!

And it's always ALWAYS the same idiocy... the law doesn't apply to me b/c I've successfully broken it. <face palm> I think we should put a big sign at the "thorough search and detainment station" of every airport which says, "You shoulda listened to the wiki. Signed, B&B.com"

Yeah, the "I can quote the rulebook, put some spin on it, and flummox some TSA employee so he lets me take my blades" logic is full of FAIL.

(P.S. The signs would be fun.)

That attitude always confuses me. I'd ALWAYS get caught if I broke one of those rules. I just flew home to Bama this past weekend. I mailed a DE and blades. There's no way I want to chance MORE hastle than already exists in air travel.

I flew with my 3 yr old daughter (who LOVES to fly). She's very well-behaved, but trying to keep track of everything AND take off and put on one's shoes while making sure the 3 yr old does the same is NOT easy.

In the end, Jesse (from Toy Story 2) sent us straight to greater security scrutiny. For the rest of the trip, my daughter asked, "Why were they rubbing that towel on Jesse?"

"Because they had to make sure that it was really Jesse."

Wait, but aren't Jesse dolls pretty tiny? Or was this a bigger one? They once checked my son's bear by hand just by giving him a squeeze to make sure there was nothing inside. He had refused to let it go for an x-ray.

Also, I happened to see on the Wiki (that's right. I do more than TAT) that a good idea is to either mail blades ahead of time or buy them at the destination. Out of curiosity, where would one purchase blades? Could they be found at a drugstore or would you have to go to a speciality store?

It is the change in signature allowances. I think they announced (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/announcement.php?f=101&a=23) it twice. I don't remember anything about codes being eliminated.

So I went to the MD today for what I thought was a hernia and turned out to be a strained ab muscle. Yeah for me. But, I'm ready to figuratively choke someone as the MD kept me waiting an hour and 20 minutes past my appointment time, saw me for all of 3 minutes, and told me to just put ice on it. AND, the nurse shoves the digital thermometer so far into my ear that I could swear it was touching my tonsils... my ear is still throbbing.

I only got to see the doc after starting to walk out.... he apologized profusely as there was an emergency. I might have believed him had he not been wiping lunch off his face as he was telling me this. Is it too much to ask that some receptionist call me and tell me that the doc is behind and do I have the time to wait or would I like to reschedule????

argh!!!!!!!!!

I have become very intolerant of doctors since working at the hospital. I watched one park in a spot clearly marked Do Not Park and got parked in. He was bouncing his Mercedes off the front of a patient transport minivan trying to move it out of his way. When I stopped him, he claimed he didn't do it. He finally said if he did hit it, it was barely a tap. I yelled at him, "Are you kidding me? Sir, I saw the van racking back and forth!" Another doctor and his doctor wife drove the exact same car. He hit a vehicle and went inside. By the time we got there, his wife had traded vehicles so we couldn't prove anything. They ignore all rules and we are not allowed to do anything to them. I have more stories like those too. They are not isolated incidents at all! :thumbdown
