So I spent the last six days driving to Las Vegas, house hunting for my son who's going to move there to go to school, and driving back. I think I drove something like 1600 miles, 175 of which were inside the Las Vegas/Henderson city limits, looking at different neighborhoods...

But we did find a house and made an offer on it, now it's up to the owner. Actually we found three that he liked, and I think the realtor was going to put in offers on our top two...

I hope to get to Vegas in June.

I would like to ride my motorcycle through. Otherwise, Vegas doesn't interest me too much.

Okay, I have had one heck of a weekend! Friday night, I went to work. Three nights a week, we have six officers and five officers the rest of the week. Friday, we had three. We had a probie, who isn't allowed to have do a lot yet, until he gets his one cert. He isn't trained to do a lot either, since this was his first week. Therefore, he was relegated (See that, Rob?) to the Lobby post. The Captain was in Station 1. That left me. I had a former Marine sniper and reserve police officer that had been taken off his meds by the VA. This left him all kinds of messed up. We were convinced he was going to go off. I took everything off that I could in expectation of it, like pen, keys, cell phone, whistle chain, etc. I spent eight hours trying to keep this guy under control. At one point, a city officer stopped in. He saw the guy and was starting to gear up for a fight when I backed the guy back down. He asked, "You have been doing this all night? Why the hell don't they arm you guys?" He was pissed and wanted to stay to help, but had to leave. He sent officers back to check on me at shift change.

With my mind and body on that level of tension al night, I was literally sick when it was time to go home. I just wanted to go to bed so bad. However, my friend bought a new motorcycle and was bringing it home Saturday and I promised to ride with him. He has never rode for more than a few blocks and this was an hour ride. You can't let a newbie ride that alone. So, no bed.

When I broke the clutch cable, I had forgot to shut off the ignition once I was home. So, the battery was dead. After some time of readjusting the clutch, I jump started it off the car. Well, I will just ride up there and the battery will recharge. I got to the entrance to the housing addition, and it died. I tried everything to get it restarted but to no avail. It is a 1/4 mile back to my house, all up hill. I never want to push my bike like that again. My legs still feel it.

I made it to Auburn and we rode back. I finally got to bed at 1400 Saturday. Back to work with four officers this time. The worst thing was a stabbing and we were on lockdown for half the night. Otherwise, it wasn't bad. ER was hit hard and I was doing the Unit Clerk's job for her. It was crazy and I didn't exactly no what I was doing. When the chick finally made it back from the activate, she still needed help to get caught up. It was interesting at least. Of course, the other officers just accused me of chasing tail all night. In reality, I was working pretty hard.

After work on Sunday mornings, I change into a suit there and drive to church. I have about an hour before people start getting there. I fell asleep fast. I woke up once people started to arrive. After church, we went to lunch with a big group, including the speaker. We had a very good time. I went toe bed for about three hours while my wife went shopping, mostly for groceries.

When she got home, she agreed to go for a short ride with me. We left around 1900. We just got home. It was a pleasant ride. However, I decided to swing by my friend's house to show off his new bike. He had company and was playing some game and taught us to play so next time we could come over. We left his place at 2230 and had not had dinner yet. We stopped by a pub and ate. We left at 2345. It was very cold by this point. My wife is a trooper though. I gave her my Nomex hood, which helped. But it was still very cold at 44 degrees.

I do love weekends. I am now going to bed very soon.

You guys didn't post a lot this weekend. I miss two days and come back to only a page and a half. Tsk, tsk.

I've spent a pretty good part of my day downloading audio books to my iPod. I just finished Treasure Island and decided I like listening to books sometimes when I am driving. This iPod sure beats the heck out of CD's, cassettes, 8-tracks, reel-to-reels and 33 1/3, 45 & 78 RPM records. I'm thankful I'm too young to remember wax cylinders, they'd be a real pain to change while driving.

Um, no, but I do have a degree in Theology (yes, really). and even in Latin, "santissimo/a" means "most holy" however, in terms of Mary, one must understand this as "most holy among men/humans" not most holy as in holier than (or even equal to) God. For this reason, it's often translated as most blessed, which in latin (and with spanish analog) would be benedictissima. :001_cool:

I never took Latin formally, but I'd give it as "in the same (way) adored" (in other words, the Holy Spirit is to be adored to the same degree as the rest of the Trinity and is not in any way less than the Father or the Son).

Believe me when I say that the current (ie: Post Vatican 2) English translations (of the Mass texts, etc.) from the Latin are, in many cases, truly horrible and inaccurate. Paraphrases at best in many instances, outright wrong in others. A first year Latin student could have done a better job with many of them. The doubly sad part is that many other countries base their translations off the English instead of going back to the Latin.

I believe you. I have been pushing for and supporting a change in the translation for some time now. We are finally going to get it.

The running joke was that half of ICEL (International Committee on English in the Liturgy) didn't know English and the other half didn't know Latin.

The new translation returns some of the previous language used in the 1962 Missal. For example, we will will return to saying "And with your Spirit" instead of the mundane "And also with you".

All in all it is a much needed step in the right direction.

Agreed on all points. The main problem with ICEL (aside from lack of scholarship) is that their agenda has, in large part, been "agenda" and not accuracy. I look forward to the changes. Now if we could just get a better Lectionary (many errors and some outright goofy stupidity there too, tho some things have been fixed).

Hey, who speaks Spanish here? Besides, if they can translate "simul adoratur" into English as "and with the Holy Spirit receives adoration" and not as correctly translated into Spanish as "The Holy Spirt, who receives the same adoration", I can say with the Fathers of the Church that truly full of the grace of God, she was "most blessed"

It's not how I'm bugged, but how frequently!

And there should have been a smiley at the last line.

We play with keys (he plays and electric piano sound and an organ sound sticks on one sound per tune), 2 guitars (one Gibson, one Fender), Fender Bass and Drums. With the right personnel, that can be a simple lineup. It's pretty much the Stax instrumentation minus the piano and horns.

True, but this is worse than normal. It seems that they are literally doing every project that has been on the back burner since they just now have the funding. Don't get me wrong, The work needs to be done, but they have construction on almost every major road: US-24, I-275, etc.

And don't get me started on I-75. That shouldn't even be under construction, but it is. Apparently the clearance on the overpass at Nine Mile doesn't met federal standards so they're lowering I-75 two inches each way under the bridge. Why the heck couldn't they have done this after they reconstructed the damn bridge last year after that idiotic Wayne State grad student careened into a tanker and destroyed the bridge last year? Yes, in fact we have to wear double (custom in the ear canal) and electronic noise canceling ear muffs. But 30,000 gun shots a day on an indoor range creates quite the concussion. It isn't so much the loud noise as the pounding effect of machine gun fire that leads to the headache.

I make it a habit not to drive something that's in such bad shape that it's held together with duct tape and bailing wire. :tongue_sm

Do not underestimate the versatility of binding wire. I got a car home from upstate New York because of that stuff. We also used it to put the front end of my car back on after a rather harrowing close call where I was forced to slam my car into the side of my friend's truck to keep from killing myself.

I mean come on! :mad3:

Feel better now?

If you drop the coin on a top quality pair like Peltor they are very nice. They are exceptional for shooting outdoors as they do their job in dampening the dB while allowing normal conversation to flow through crystal clear. However, if you are on an indoor range the noise canceling headset plus the cheap foamies is an adequate combination. We are only getting the custom fit plugs because of heavy machine gun fire. Any normal small caliber .308 or smaller and the custom fit wouldn't be necessary.

You should really try out at least one injector and one GEM at some point. I don't care for injectors myself, but they're an easy switch from the multi-blade world due to similar shave angle. Plus, GEMs are just frighteningly, uh, frightening, but can be worth it. Tho not on a day that you have to rush (which, I'm convinced, is part of the reason I don't get great shaves with them).

Considering that a new DE will set you back $30 + or -, $15 isn't bad if it's something you want. $15 for most GEMs, tho, would be top of the budget for me. Injectors... well, it'd depend on how old and how nice.

We went to a large antiques festival in Liberty, NC, today. Some 400+ vendors. I saw more varieties of razors than I had before, but they wanted more than I was willing to pay. IS $15 too much for a razor? To me it is. What can I say? I'm a Penny-Pincher. I did find excellent prices on Schick injectors & GEM razors. I have no interest in using them, but they are a part of my trade collection.

As a fellow cheapskate Penny-Pincher, $15 for a Gillette Superspeed probably isn't too high. I prefer to pay less than $5 and the two that I got for less than a dollar are my favorites.

I may give them a whirl before sending them on their way. I saw a ShiftSchick, an injector with a shift knob on the end..kinda weird. I'm just having trouble figuring out how to open the injector so I can clean it and potentially load it. :001_huh:

The most I have paid for a DE so far is $8, and I am trying to stick with that. Although, I really wanted that Black Super Adjustable, but they wouldn't drop their prices. Oh well. The injector & the GEM were both under the $8 mark.

I'm convinced that if I wait, and keep looking in the stores in the general area, I'll eventually find what I want, for the price I want. That philosophy has worked several time for me already, and kept me from spending too much on shaving gear.

The shift knob injectors, iirc are fairly rare. Make sure you take that into account if you sell it. As for opening and cleaning any injector, unless you're particularly clever and careful with a screwdriver, you're basically out of luck and will probably injure yourself. They really only open with the key (on the blade pack) in place and at that, only enough to kick out the old blade and install the new one. Maybe someone else has an idea or two, though.

A bamboo skewer works pretty good at opening it enough to get an old blade out and toothbrush bristles in.
I tried the trick with toothpicks, but they splinter too easily.
Happened to have some bamboo skewers in the kitchen drawer and they work perfectly due to the longer grain of the fiber = less splintering.
I've seen these at various grocery stores from time to time.

Well, passed on the Shift injector, and just got a regulator injector - ivory colored hadnle with gold finish on the metal parts.

That hard to open, huh? This ought to be loads of fun.

There was one of these Shift Schicks up on the BST a while back. I drooled over that and almost broke down to buy it. That is one of the few Schicks I don't have. The one made with a tennis racket handle is neat too, but doesn't fascinate me quite as much.

What kind of injector are you trying to open?

It's the black handle w/stainless steel (I think). I had thought I had one of the others, but I saw so many at this one dealer, that I forgot which one i had.

To me, the Shift Schick looked cheap and poorly made. The metal look more like used aluminum siding, and the knob was held by too much glue. Maybe that one had been abused, but I didn't think it had the quality of the other injectors. It was offered to me at $10, but I turned it down.

As far as the Stick Schick, that was a good price. The last one on the BST was for $23. Of course, if you are not collecting, then it isn't. As far as your description, that seems to be how they look.

Yours sounds like a Type L (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Type_L). Interestingly, this uses the exact same head as the Stick Schick. This uses the flat spring, so the bamboo idea is your best bet.
