Honestly, Vosges is a good brand of chocolate, but it is sold at an outrageous price. It's nice to try once, but there are other things you can pick up that are cheaper and just as good or better.
I do admit that they make some very interesting combinations, though.
What are some of the better ones?

My God. You guys sure got us to and past 2k in the most meaningless route possible didn't you? It's a festivus miracle! And I got Felix the Cat'ed in my avatar. See what a little harmless fun with a small mammal and a breakfast delight will get you?
Anyway sorry I couldn't be around for the festivities. Supper fell to me tonight and then there was a football game to watch. Glad I'm not an Indie fan. No, I'm much better off being a Bronco fan :bored:. So we ate spaghetti and watched the Titans go undefeated. Next weeks game will be kind of cool. Shanes' Skins play on election eve. That's kind of cool I think.
Enjoy Chicago Dom. It's a nice city what I've seen of it. As to the chocolate debate I'm no snob. I'll eat any and all chocolates that come my way. I've already been raiding the Halloween bucket. Those little kiddies better get here soon or there won't be any left.

Thanks for the well wishes. Getting up at 4 AM isn't fun (bet you know that already, Shep). Anyway... the boards probably won't be seeing too much of me save for the occasional check in. Take care everyone.
The mods actually cycled you and Duckster through a number of different pictures/sig lines last night. No one else seems to have gotten attacked (Jim turned his own bunny upside down). The mods might lead an all out offensive on Halloween, though, so we should keep and eye out.
Have a great week, everyone.

You screwballs went and exceeded my challenge by nearly 50 posts!! Good job!! I see the chocolate subject has come up again. I happen to be a borderline chocoholic, and have spent as much on a single box of chocolates as many people make in a forty hour week. I can say, with no reservations, that the famed italian chocolate maker "Amedei" has the finest chocolate in the world. Google the name and look up location near you where you can get thier fine chocolates.

I am also glad.
In other news I have a cold. I took Nyquil last night and I'm not the type to measure. I now feel that 1/3-1/2 of a bottle is likely too large a dose as I feel groggy still after 6hrs of sleep. I also have cotton mouth. Interesting and mostly why I never take medecines.

It's all a matter of intelligence. Because Goofy can speak in complete sentences and stand upright and Pluto can only bark and uses all four legs, Disney societal stratification requires that Pluto be subjugated to the role of 'pet' whereas Goofy fulfills a role as a contributing member of the Mickey elite. Pluto is allowed into the inner circle only as long as he fulfills his role as a mere pet. If Pluto were to try to surpass his stratification by attempting English or using only hind legs and wearing clothes, he would most likely find himself in some sort of 'camp' or worse. Disney legality also dictates that Goofy cannot pretend to associate with other dogs on a level more in keeping with the pet role for fear that said associate would bring up red flags and bring in to question the established caste system.
Ah, and yet, that doesn't explain why/how in the Aitch-Eee--Ell--Ell Donald gets away with running around pantsless. At least with Unc'a Scrooge, you can explain it as he's an eccentric Gazillionaire-- heck, if I had that kind of money, I wouldn't wear pants either, society be damned! But Donald is a low-wage flunky. And I'm pretty sure he's in the Navy. Is it really wise to run around sans britches on a boat full of males? Especially consider that they probably spend months at sea... Paints ol' croaky in a different light, dunnit?

Tis a sad day, my friends of the Anything Thread, just read a post, that has since mysteriously disappeared, of Dr. Mike leaving the B&B...as a result of others getting banned...I understand the impetus of of the bans and resignations, it is still sad. Most of the ones gone were ones I learned a lot from. We've all received the adequate warnings, the mods have been awesome in their hands-off let-the-men-be-men style of moderating, but things must've really gone awry for such actions to be going on.
Those men who have contributed so much to the sight, and who I have learned much from, even in the political discussions, ones whom I both agreed and polarly disagreed with, I learned much and respected them.
Tis a sad day for B&B, but the saddle of blame rests squarely on the asses* who carried them, not the mods.

Holy Hell...sinki. This place got turned on it's ear over the past 12 hours huh? Threads locked down. Bannings/timeouts. Angst. Anger. It's only another week to the election fellas. After that it's done and over with, and we can get on with the business of fun and mayhem (oh yeah, and shaving). And kudos to Rolls for standing up for TAT in one of the locked threads. Calling us silly and pointless?!? We resemble that remark. Don't we? I still don't know why 1969Fatboy (Shawn) got banned/timeout'ed, but then I haven't had time to puruse the entire site. He's always been real decent with me. Hope he makes his way back someday.
Well, this is exactly why I included the tagline in my OP: politics is out. America and Americans are just too divided over political ideology this past decade. I know my hackles can get raised rather quickly so I make a conscious decision to stay out of those threads. The few times I've been tempted to post, I took some deep breaths, reconsidered and then moved on. Always glad I did too. I believe we can disagree and still get along, but it's a tough sell via internet postings. Keeping it light and easy is the answer IMO. To my knowledge no war was ever started and no member ever banned over pancakes and bunnys!

WAIT, wait, wait. I called TAT silly and pointless, but not because I was putting this thread down. That got TOTALLY misinterpreted. I meant that remark to mean this was a GOOD thing that did not necessarily have anything to do with shaving, just as the political threads had become BAD things that didn't deal with shaving. I apologize if someone took offense to that comment and was never intended to do anything but say that "look fellows, you can have a silly pointless thread and the mods STILL won't ban you." What's the best vacation you ever had? The one that stands out in your mind as the be all, end all of trips?
My best trip was with my dad senior year of high school (1986). I had just finished playing in a football game and he came up to me and was talking about f-ball. We are and were huge Bronco fans so I was all pumped about the next weeks game against San Diego. He nonchalantly slipped it into our conversation that we would be there for it. I didn't catch it right away and did one of those double takes a few minutes later.
Sure enough he had won two tickets to see the Broncos play in Mile High. This is back in the Elway haydays when he pretty much carried the offense on his shoulders. Outrunning defensive players, heaving hail Marys' and flea flickers down the field. It was nerve wracking but he was a joy to watch. So we fly into Denver on a Friday night and check out the town. Saturday we manage to score tickets to a Nuggets game just for fun. Then Sunday the big game. We got to see two big league sporting events in one weekend. This is a big deal for a country boy from the sticks of S. Dakota. I won't go into all the details but suffice to say it was an exciting game that came down to the wire. This game had the most unlikely and unbelievable of endings. S. Diego was kicking a field goal to win and it was blocked and run back for a TD. Denver wins! But no. Some penalty brought it back and SD gets another try. Well, do you know what happened? They blocked the darn thing AGAIN. Picked it up AGAIN. And ran it back for a TD, AGAIN! It's unheard of. The whole stadium was jumping and back slapping and hugging and just going crazy.
I've seen and done and been a lot of places in my 40 years. I have a lot of nice memories of vacations with my own family, but that quick three day trip with my dad is the best trip I've ever taken. Whatcha got?

Anybody want to do a trade for HBS Lilac? I truly love this soap. All the reviews of HBS are spot on IMO. Great lather, slick, moisturizing, great shave. Unfortunately the Lilac FO is giving me a mild reaction. Nothing real nasty, but a mild heat sensation around the mouth and cheek area. Too bad, because the scent is heavenly.
Anyway the tub has two shaves out of it so it's basically brand new. I'd preferably like another HBS product just to test the waters, and because I really do love the results. However if no one has an HBS up for trade I'll consider other ideas--we're talking about a roughly $10 or $12 value here if memory serves. I actually have a PM in w/ Sue about this issue, but her computers have crashed and she's offline for another week or so. I'll let this ride for a few days and then move over to the BST if no interest exists here. Thanks gents.
EDIT: btw this is the soap in a white tub, not a loose puck.

Well, no pain in the ole' sack so far this morning. However, if it does happen again today I will have to take a trip into town. On the subject of Colleens products................ I have them all, literaly!! I ordered one of every cream and soap she has. The creams are actually tallow based, and are up there performance wise with some of the english creams. The soaps, while not tallow based, have a very unique mixture of milks, butters, aloe, and clays which provide the best shaving small vendor soap that I have ever used. As for the scents, I frickin' love her Autumn Spice, Sandalwood Vanilla, Lime Margarita, Leatherneck, and Provence Lavender. The Orange Patchouli gets an honorable mention too. Since I do not indulge in tobacco products, the Cavendish Black is not very appealling to me, but many others love it. You know, my son actually met Colleen over the summer down W.Va.........................

One fishing trip up north stands out in my mind. Just my son and I went up to the cabin that year, and he caught his first big smallmouth (he was six or seven at the time, now he is thirty). It was years before the lottery thing happened, so basically we were still normal people. Below are a couple pics from that trip, one of me, one of the boy. It seems so long ago. Sweet fishin' pics Rolls. I used to be a big fisherman but haven't done it for many years now. Thanks for the info on the TGQ. Tallow based creams sound interesting. I'm sort of on a shave-shopping hiatus right now, but I'll keep this vendor in mind down the road. No responses yet to my HBS trade offer up above. If anybody is interested let me know. I hate to have this great product sit on my shelf unused.
So I hit the sack early last night in hopes of being bright eyed this morning. Should have known better. We live in a smallish house which was ok for four of us but now my grand daughter and her mom live w/ us so things are a bit cramped...and noisy. Banging this and crashing that. My wife screaming, the baby going nuts and so on. I think I got all of four hours sleep. Grrrrr....the Shep hates being tired all day.
On the up side some of you may remember a thread I posted back in the summer about trying for a transfer to Denver. Well yesterday they posted an opening there that I applied for. I'll be in competition w/ anyone who is interested and meets the qualifications so it's no lock, but it is a possibility. Keeping the fingers crossed. I'm ready to move on from AZ. Been here 12 years now and that's enough. Selling the house could be a losing proposition in this market climate however......

Actually, 'bated breath' is correct. Not abated. Bated means '“reduced, lessened, lowered in force”. So bated breath refers to a state in which you almost stop breathing as a result of some strong emotion, such as terror or awe.'

Today, while perusing a reader-feedback forum on the Internet I encountered the phrase "with baited breath." The writer probably intended to use the expression "with bated breath." I am curious about the origin of this phrase and the frequency of the above variant.
The often misunderstood and misspelled expression bated breath is actually very straightforward.
The word bate means 'to moderate; restrain' or 'to lessen; diminish'. It is an aphetic shortening of abate--aphesis is the loss of an unstressed initial syllable, as in lone, from alone, or cute, from acute. So with bated breath means 'with the breath restrained or made gentle, as from excitement', and hence 'in a state of suspense'. Remember "to abate one's breath" and it'll make more sense.
The word bate itself, first found around 1300, was once rather common--it appears a number of times in Shakespeare, for example--but is now very rare except in this one set expression. As a result, many people don't know what bated means, and change it to baited by the process of folk etymology (http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19970415)--the unclear bate is altered to associate it with the common bait. The version baited breath is not very rare, and the process that gives rise to it is common and has many parallels, but it's almost always regarded as an error. You should avoid it, lest people wonder what you've baited your breath with, and what you're trying to catch.

So I show up in Chicago. Now I'm sick. I love when things line up like this. I spent some time walking around yesterday and managed to visit the Merz Apothecary to pick up a couple Speick shave sticks and the Truefitt & Hill store. After hearing so much about a number of colognes/scents these companies make, I was extremely glad to be able to smell them and finally be able to relate to what people are talking about.
I even managed to walk out of both Merz and T&H without buying anything other than two shave sticks. I underspent a little. I was supposed to buy DE blades at one of those two locations. Having a woozy head has impaired my function a bit. I think I'll be heading off to the pharmacy now to pick up something.

If anything the ex is more upset about me moving in with two women. Not that she has a leg to stand on as she's having an affair.
+1 Based on the excrement she's putting you through, I think going to dinner with another woman as friends is about as dangerous as a water balloon fight.

In a moment of weakness I asked my friend's sister to dinner. Yeah, way to go!
I was expecting something along the lines of a drunken call to the ex that led to wild pre-divorce whoopie. I see no problem having dinner w/ a friends sister. Then again she's not my sister; who is nuts by the way so you wouldn't want to have dinner with her anyway but that's a story for another day.
Hmm.... that can't be too bad. It's definitely not as bad as I expected.
So I show up in Chicago. Now I'm sick. I love when things line up like this. I spent some time walking around yesterday and managed to visit the Merz Apothecary to pick up a couple Speick shave sticks and the Truefitt & Hill store. I know that some of you aren't huge into colognes (Shep), but their cologne selection was exceptional. It seemed like they had the entire range of Penhaligons and Floris.
Have a great day, everyone.
Hey cool about hitting those stores Dom. I would too if I were there even though I'm not a huge T&H fan. I hear they have some decent AS's. I'd have to try one before passing judgement. Sorry to hear about the cold. That's a bummer. So are you in Chi-town on business or pleasure? The whole country seems to be under a freeze warning except us. It's still 90+ degrees every freakin' day. I'm still having to turn on the air once or twice a week, and I'm sick of it! Bring on the cool weatherman!

I was just re-reviewing the recently bumped Pasteurs Pharmacy thread over on the shopping forum. Man those NY'ers are a lucky bunch of sods. Those pics have really got me drooling. If I walked into a store that had that kind of selection I'd ask if the owner has a daughter that needs marrying! I guess that stuff must really sell too because those shelves are overflowing w/ product. Leads me to believe if more B&M's would just take a chance and offer our products they might turn a tidy profit. You just know if these "new" products were to show up on the shelves at Target, Wal Greens, Wal Mart or the corner pharmacy lots of guys would purchase them just out of curiosity. My bet is many of them would get hooked. To my knowledge any of these creams can be used brushless so the customer base doesn't have to be wet shavers exclusively.

Chicago is one of those western cities like Minneapolis, Denver, Phoenix, KC, LA and so on. All spread out and takes an hour and a 1/2 in traffic to get anywhere. Though you do have decent train service which helps. Point is I rarely go into the city either. Too much of a pain.
The East coast guys tend to have tighter boundried cities serviced by excellent public transportation. Much easier to get around. Heck I don't even think Dom has a car. That's bordering on communism though so I won't tout that!
Phoenix is actually pretty compact... It's just Mesa, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Tempe, Chandler, Ahwatukee, Queen Creek, Apache Junction and Deer Valley that are spread out.

Not a problem, Ray. I actually started taking NyQuil this morning for a cold. (Yes, NyQuil, not DayQuil). Result: Grogginess all day. I wouldn't have been great company.

Chicago's public transport pretty much blows Boston's out of the water. Boston is a lot smaller and much more walker friendly, though. Pedestrians can step into the street and walk in front of cars when the cars have a green light in Boston. And no one honks their horn at the pedestrians for the most part (except for people that were from outside Boston).
And you're right. Dom has no car. Decided against it as the public transport system is decent and much, much cheaper. Also, I've got a bike, which is a huge help. I can usually beat the train into the heart of the city from my apartment by a couple of minutes. Downtown Boston is about 20 minutes away from my apartment on bike.
Just getting to work takes me 45 minutes for 11 miles.

When I bought my Speick shave sticks, I took a look at the tax on the receipt. 10.25%, I believe. I was shocked. I'm glad I'm not a big shopper and didn't buy anything other than food, some razor blades, and the shave sticks while I was here.

Yes, yes. I completely agree.
Anyway Rolls - I remember you asking which Penhaligon's Fragrances I liked. To tell you the truth, I really like a lot of them. I've sniffed a few of them before, but this was the first time I got to smell Hammam, English Fern, Duoro, and a number of others. I did like the smell of Hammam. English Fern and Duoro were nice. I don't think English Fern would work with my body chemistry, though. I would now like to get my hands on a little sample of the Hammam to tell you the truth.
I requested a few samples from Penhaligon's a while back. Blenheim Bouquet doesn't smell that great to me out of the vial, but dries down really nicely on me. I believe Opus 1870 is another that I like. The Penhaligon's fragrances all seem quite nice to me, but they're a bit pricey. Don't know if I'd ever shell the money out for a full bottle of the stuff.

At the risk of ticking off Ryan I have to give a shout out to Dom and his sampler of Salters Mint which I just finished shaving with. Man that stuff whips up a voluminous lather! *Additional taxes, charges, surcharges, and surtaxes may apply. These include local, state and federal excises, as well as a 6% levy imposed by NATO. Plus, your landlord wants a piece of the action, so we’re throwing him half a point. Also, to cover the significant cost of building our distribution infrastructure, extra charges for play activity will be assessed according to the following schedule: $.10 per bounce, $.15 per throw, and $.25 cents per toss and catch combination. Since we cannot justify the expense of providing hot coffee throughout the workday at our corporate headquarters, we also add a Perk-Me-Up Surcharge to each customer’s bill. The exact amount is determined by the associate handling your account, who adjusts the figure based on how mind-numbingly bored he becomes while preparing your statement. The Accounts Receivable Sluggers are looking sharp in new uniforms purchased with funds generated by the Softball Surcharge. Ginny and the whole team from the third floor (current record 2-0!) thank you for your support. In consideration of Jesus’ advice, “A rich man can no sooner enter heaven than a camel fit through the eye of a needle,” we’ve taken it upon ourselves to improve your spiritual life with a monthly Immortal Soul Purification Surcharge, which fluctuates according to the balance in your checking account. In fact, it’s usually equal to the balance of your checking account. How do we get that information? Through a special arrangement with your financial institution, paid for by a Convenience Fee added to your monthly bill. You might question the efficacy of charging you a fee in order to collect a surcharge—but you’d have to read this fine print first. And we don’t think you will. It’s just a gray block of six-point text hidden on the back of a brochure. You’d have to really want to track down what that asterisk on the front leads to—and that’s if you even know what an asterisk means. Which most people don’t. They just think it’s there for show, like a flower on a lady’s hat. So here we are, telling you all the sundry ways we’re going to screw you to the wall as soon as you sign your contract, and we might as well be shouting down a hole. You know what? Yo mamma so ugly, Sasquatch took a picture of HER! See? You’ll never know we said that. At least not until you get your first statement and see the Yo Ugly Mamma Surcharge.

My SNL days consisted of the Not Ready For Primetime Players. Of the many skits I loved one was where the housewives add some kind of chemical to the gas tank and then get down on hands and knees, noses to the tailpipe to sniff the exhaust. Those big, stupid fake commercial grins were a hoot.

now don't get me wrong, I've never been a particular fan of SNL, I simply remember seeing some kind of "best of commercials" or something as a young'un, and that one stuck with me...as well as the "land shark" skit (though I don't know why:001_rolle)

By any chance it wouldn't be that pentecostal church in Cedar Hills that every year has the "hell house" and every year is on the news?

That was in reference to your "too much shaving talk" comment somewhere back a few pages. Had to give my shout outs to Dom though about the Salters.
Now for a morning rant. Regulars to TAT know I've been on the morning shift this month which means I've been fighting morning traffic. Which hasn't turned out to be that bad thankfully. I think maybe I'm hitting the road before the worst of it. Anyway there has been lots of news lately about new speed cameras both permanent and mobil being set up on Valley freeways. No prob. I'm thinking. I rarely go 10 over the limit so I'm cool. So I'm driving this a.m. in moderate traffic; we are all in a line doing between 65 & 70, cars in front and cars behind me. We hit one stretch of road where I end up kind of on my own: maybe 30 yards in front of and behind me of open space. I'm doing the aforementioned 65 or 70. When all of a sudden <flash front>, <flash rear>. A quick check in my rearview and sure enough I see a mobil speed van tucked away.
Another quick look in front of me and the pickup that's ahead of me was definitely pulling away from me so he's obviously going faster than me. I have no idea if those flashes were me or him or somebody else. How the hell can they set up those devices during rush hour is my #1 question? Plus which it's been widely reported they will only give tickets to those going 10 over. Will those things flash first and check speeds later or do they only flash if you're over the 10 mph threshold? Because I'm positive I was under the threshold. Unless of course the limit readjusted to 55 in that spot. Not sure about that because I rarely drive that stretch of road and it was still dark so I didn't see the posted limit sign. And anyway the whole line of us would have been getting flashed as we were all doing the same speed roughly. Anyway I'm ignorant to these matters as I've never been flashed before; though my wife has gotten busted a couple times over the years. Anyone know how this all works.
This sucks. Now I've got to sweat it out a couple weeks and see if I get something in the mail. AZ has a deal where you go to an 8 hr. traffic course for like $125 bucks and it goes away but that's a bummer too. Oh well. Nothing I can do I suppose. Shep might be in traffic school next month. !@#$%.

Unless you have high-speed internet, I don't recommend taking the Defensive Driving course online. Go ahead and waste a Saturday. Around here, you get lunch with the class...
Dial-up is abismall though, you have to wait forever for the stupid videos to load. It took me nearly 3 days of spare time trying to complete that course. The worst part is, I still contend that I wasn't speeding! My wife's car couldn't get up to the speed he said he clocked me at in the short distance he said happened in. I think it was a case of mistaken identity. Still, it was cheaper/easier to take DD and move on. At least my insurance rates dropped a little because of the class.

Got up this morning at 6:30 to observe a teacher.
She's 35 miles from me.
Rush hour traffic keeps me on the road from 7-9:30.
I get there to find out she's out for the day.

I believe in AZ you can deny the ticket in the mail and they have to actually serve you. Don't quote me on it, but my dad was saying something about that.

Yeah, I'm seeing some comments about this as well. I don't know about your locales but the local online paper here allows reader comments. You know the photo radar is drawing thousands of them! Anyway a lot of folks are making the comment that what you get in the mail is just a notice. You can choose to acknowledge that notice by either paying or going to the school. If you just ignore it the agency then has a period of time in which you must be served in person. Of course this is all just heresay on the internet and I know better than to believe that. I'll just wait to see if I get something and then go from there.
A friend of mine was telling me she saw on the news where they are just in a warning phase right now getting everyone used to the new system. So if I did get the flash-a-roo this a.m. maybe I'll just get a warning in the mail. That would be good. Just have to wait it out and see.
Don't know where I come down on this whole photo radar thing. On the one hand I can see where they might help keep speeds and possibly accidents down. On the other how does one fight this technology? You tell the judge. "I know I wasn't speeding on that stretch of road two months ago." He says, "How do you know how fast you were going two months ago? Here's a photo radar ticket telling us you were going xxx miles over the limit. Guilty. Case closed. Next!"

Ok, your honor, here's a picture of $200.
I never have understood how a still photo is supposed to back up a report of speeding. Video, maybe, but a still photo does not in anyway support evidence of motion. It's like offering a recording of 1 milisecond of audio as proof that you said something.
Meh... As far as I'm concerned, simply considering the chances of malfunction is enough to make a case against this photo radar crap (Aside from privacy issues... and anyway, it's hard to face one's accuser if it's a machine). If we must have police, they'd do better to go after people who are actually driving recklessly and causing accidents, instead of automatically sending tickets to anyone who happens to be going 10 mph over the speed limit.
Especially where they're putting the new ones; NO ONE goes 65... That would be dangerous!
