TSA rant:
I have a hard-sided razor kit; my Feather Portable is in its plastic case. My baggage went through security, and the TSA rifled through my razor kit like they always do. But this time the dumb bastard couldn't figure out how to open the case, and broke it. Stupid jerk. Now I either spend $7.50 plus shipping--an entirely reasonable sum-- for another of Pauldog's NOS razors just to get the case, or I spend time and make my own case for it. Ugh. I suppose I could just shave my head with my HD, but I like shaving my head with a Tech clone, and the first time I sliced my scalp or my ear with my HD, I might have a heart attack or stroke cursing the TSA.
Stupid jerk TSA worker. I hope he cut himself on the case.

It's small potatoes in the grand scheme of things -- losing ten bucks (and really, not that much because the razor is probably okay); it's just a needless loss. I have a job, a family, a warm and dry place to sleep, I'm well fed and just finished a beer. Life is really good, and I have little to complain about. But it still ticked me off.
I suppose I should work on "not sweating the small stuff" for my New Year's Resolutions, eh?
And a very Merry Christmas to you, too!

Nah, I had my anniversary today. I already had my present though. I got it in Chicago. She did get me a new strop, though. It is one I found at an antique shop. It is some weird contraption called an Automatic Stropper. It has a metal thing the strop goes through. There is a place to slide the straight into the side and leaves the edge exposed. Pull on the strop while holding the straight to that side, and it pulls the leather across. Then, tilt the blade the other side, and pull on the opposite end.

On the other hand, yes, we're fortunate that many of the misguided souls who think terror is the best way to achieve their political goals aren't that bright. But remember the events that occurred when the smarter ones worked together and planned carefully. :frown:

DrBob and I were arguing that. I had to spend the evening with all of my wife's family, including DrBob. I got to see the tail end of the game. I agree with you. However, DB's argument was to keep the team rested for Play-offs. If they played half the game already though...*shrug* Irritated me.

They are going to have a bye week... They aren't getting "rested", they are protecting their players and letting a chance to be recognized as the greatest football team in history pass them by without even really going for it... I hope they loose their first playoff game now... :mad3:

I was pissed. I have zero doubt ZERO that the Colts could have easily defeated the Jets this week and the Bills next. Once they got that 14th win and New Orleans lost they should have gone for it. The pulled their starters too soon and it was a stupid move.
They are going to have a bye week... They aren't getting "rested", they are protecting their players and letting a chance to be recognized as the greatest football team in history pass them by without even really going for it...:mad3:
Exactly (except for the losing the playoff game bit)! The bye week is their rest time. Besides if the Colts really wanted it they could have run the score up much higher before pulling the big dogs out. They should have been the second 16-0 team in regular season play. I just feel bad for Peyton. He is without a doubt THE BEST QB currently playing the game. But decisions like this are why he has haters and doubters. I just hope they recover and win the SB then this lost and the likely loss next week won't sting so much.

The weather in Charleston was, and still is, great. It's the weather here that sucks so bad. You get upstate and it all falls to pieces.
I was in the South Carolina Pee Dee region for Christmas, and we had some vicious storms on Christmas Day! Heavy rains, thunder, severe lightning...wow...unbelievable!
Merry Christmas to all.
Hope Santa was good to everyone.
Best wishes for a Joyous and Happy Holiday.
Merry Christmas y'all. Hope Saint Nick was good to those of you celebrating Christmas.
Merry Christmas B&B!
I hope Santa brought everyone what they wanted!
Mine was nice. Not lavish, but I got to spend it with my parents, sisters and nephew and niece...and that's what counts.
Thanks, skklog for the informative and tasteful information on beards.
Planning on growing the Federation sideburns this year?
That sucks, Jesse. :thumbdown Merry Christmas anyway:wink2:
+1
a bit late maybe to say..it's been a busy day but Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year
Ready for the New Year's ice storm?
We're heading back to Tejas tomorrow...catch you all later!
Hope you had a safe and good trip.
belated Merry Christmas, and Happy Boxing Day
Who won?
My brother-in-law (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/member.php?u=22726).
I did not know that. It's funny that you are not your bil's friend here, lol.
Although if you have seen any of his posts you would swear that he's a blood relative. :tongue_sm
 Um...what are you saying?

Well, fellas, I actually took the time to read everything I missed this go-round.....I'm a little disappointed. Looks like everyone's been busy with real life stuff lately (myself included). It happens. I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas and has fun celebrating the incoming new decade.
Since serious topics such as football, current events, and the mental status of today's criminals have been addressed as of late, I present to you, courtesy of the Czardom's Department of Jesting Services, a joke:
One day in Heaven, Jesus and Moses were hanging out when they came up with an idea.
"Hey, Moses, let's go play a round of golf", Jesus said.
"Sounds great", replied Moses, "but let's see if we can find one other person to play, too."
After asking around Heaven they came up with a third golfer to join them, and off they went.
The first hole on the course had a water hazard; a finger of the nearby lake stretched out across the fairway. Moses went first. His ball landed square in the middle of the water. Walking to the edge of the lake, Moses touched his staff into the water, and it parted. He walked on dry land to his ball and took his second shot, landing about five yards shy of the green.
Jesus went next. His shot headed for a spot hear where Moses had just played from, still in the water. Instead of sinking, though, Jesus' ball stopped right on the water's surface. Jesus walked on the water to his ball and played his second shot. He made the green from there and had a formidable put for birdee.
The other guy went last. His ball headed for the water also. However, right before going into the water, a fish jumped up and grabbed the ball in its mouth. The fish spat the ball into the air as a seagull flew by and grasped it in its claws. The gull flew the ball to the green and dropped it a couple yards from the hole. As the ball hit the grass, the whole ground started shaking. The earthquake's vibrations caused the ball to start rolling toward the hole. Just as the ball got to the lip of the cup and fell in, lightening strikes out of a clear, blue sky right onto the pin. A hole in one.
Moses looks to Jesus and says, "man, I hate playing with your dad".

Okay, I got the pictures working.
Blake, I did some digging for you about your new Toledo Firearms .22 pocket revolver:
This is a farely rare albeit inexpensive find. It doesn't appear in any of the 6 Catalogs of the worlds firearms that I own/reference regularly wich makes it either fairly obscure or fairly undesirable (although personally I think its a cool piece). What I have been able to dig up via the internet and other collectors is that Toledo Firearms Co was actually a name used by the Dickinson Firearms Co who also manufactured identical (and other) guns under the names:
Earlhood
Earthquake
Our Jake
Ranger No 2
Sterling
Tramps Terror
Toledo Arms
From what I can tell what you have is a "Suicide Special."
The name Toledo Firearms Company was a Trade name used by the
Hopkins and Allen Company on inexpensive pocket revolvers as well as a
trade name used by E.L. and J. Dickinson on inexpensive pocket
revolvers.
SUICIDE SPECIALS:
Most are of low quality, cheaply made and are unsafe to shoot with today's ammunition. These will be found in .22 - .30 - .32 - .38 and .41 caliber's.
It appears the Toledo Fire Arms Co. name is best known for Breech loading Shotguns made between 1860-1940.
Long story short it appears that several manufacturers likely made a pocket revolver exactly like yours and stamped it Toledo Firearms Co so
it would be very hard to determine exactly who made it or to find replacement parts or determine an accurate/true value (if needed).
I also can't find anything that would lead me to believe that these are worth any high dollar amount.
It appears that these are still accessible from time to time for the $100-$500 range depending on condition and working order.
Here is an example in .32 cal.
http://www.gunsamerica.com/937981444/Guns/Pistols/Antique/Premier_32_Suicide_Specia.htm
It would probably be in your best interest to clean it up/restore it as a conversation piece and never attempt to fire it. Personally I'd probably fully restore it inside/out into working order (to include the finish and new grips) and hold on to it as a 150 year old piece of Americana.
Dollar value means nothing IMHO. It's just cool where you got and the fact that its so old and its yours!

No, the Loser Bowl was November 22. You know Lions vs Browns. Or was it the September 27th games where the Lions 'played against' the Redskins?
So, how many games did the Lions win? :whistling:
Wow! Thank you very much. I must say, I am disappointed about the safety issue. It is a shame to see a gun sitting and not being fired. Oh well. Like you said, I still like the antique look of it. And it is mine!
Perchance, did you dig anything up on how to remove the cylinder? Mine has a spring-loaded button on the side of the frame, just forward of the cylinder. I assume this serves the same function as the lever on the front of the frame of the one you linked to. I thought, when I push the button, I could pull out on the center pin. This does not seem to work.

Try pressing in on the button and then pulling out on the rod that holds the cylinder in place. I've not taken one like this apart, but often the cheaper ones simply fall out once you remove the rod as opposed to being hinged like more expensive/more modern revolvers.

You know, I have a hard time believing the Lions will suck for all eternity. They got their hands on a quality quarterback, and that's a pretty good start. If they can come up with a couple of good skills position players, particularly a running back, they could be on their way to a fairly solid offense. Of course, a good offensive line can make even the worst running back look good.
Now, their management I don't know about, and they have a lot of work to do to overcome their 'loser' mindset. I'll be interested to see where they go in the draft. I'm pulling for them. I'd love to see Stafford make a solid franchise QB out of himself. They may not be true contenders for a couple of years still, but I'm really hoping to see them have at least a 6 or 7 win season next year.

Yeah, I am a big UGA fan, so I followed his college career pretty closely. I like the way he plays, and he has a good mindset for the position (not to mention arm). He doesn't get rattled very easily, which is a valuable asset when you play for a team like Detroit.
The Lions also have Calvin Johnson, who has the potential to be a dominating receiver. I feel like a big run threat could really open up their offense and give Stafford room to make some plays with his arm.
I'm not going to pretend to know the key to success for them, but that is my opinion. Like I said, I'll be quite interested to see where they go in the draft.

They've generally sucked since their last championship back in '57, not much reason to stop now. :lol1:
And there's no way the best offense in the world would make Kevin Smith look good. It doesn't take much to get him down. Heck, a good stiff wind could stop him. :001_rolle

He definitely seems like he'll develop into one heck of a quarterback. He's made more than his fair share of mistakes this season, but the he's calm under pressure, has a great arm and is tough as nails.

Well......that quick an answer just won't do. Riddles are not my forte, so here's a joke until Matt comes on duty later tonight. (Perhaps he'll have a riddle for you.)
A local United Way office realized that the organization had never received a donation from the town's most successful lawyer. The person in charge of contributions called him to persuade him to contribute.
"Our research shows that out of a yearly income of at least $500,000, you give not a penny to charity. Wouldn't you like to give back to the community in some way?"
The lawyer mulled this over for a moment and replied, "First, did your research also show that my mother is dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that are several times her annual income?"
Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbled, "Um ... no."
The lawyer interrupts, "or that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair?"
The stricken United Way rep began to stammer out an apology, but was interrupted again.
"or that my sister's husband died in a traffic accident," the lawyer's voice rising in indignation, "leaving her penniless with three children?!"
The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, said simply, "I had no idea..."
On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again, "So if I don't give any money to them, why should I give any to you?"

Busted! I assume this means no more Latin quotes, either.
I wouldn't say this means the end to quotes or common expressions in other languages. Caveat emptor, Si vis pacem parabellum, C'est la vie, Carpe diem, Tempus fugit etc. etc. These are all pretty common/known things. My point was the unnecessary use of random foreign languages. I've PM'd all involved with a better explanation. Thanks all for understanding.

What type of spring? Single, double, triple etc. helix? Leaf spring? If its a standard single coil you'll probably be able to find a substitute. If its a leaf spring you can probably fabricate one. If it is more intricate than that you may be in trouble.

Here it is with just the hammer and hammer spring removed.
81245
Cylinder and center pin removed.
81246
In this one, you can see a slot in the rear of the frame. There is supposed to be some kind of lever, I assume, that sticks through her to advance the cylinder. There is not one.
81247
The piece sticking out just in front of the trigger is the cylinder lock. You can just see the remains of the leaf spring that broke sticking into the cylinder cavity.
81248
In two shakes of a lamb's tail, I'll have a pic of the broken spring.

I will say this, though aesthetically it should be pretty easy for you to restore it appearance wise. Are all of the external parts the same type of metal? Given its age I would assume so.

I assume so, but the hammer and trigger seem to be darker.
Here is the part with the broken spring. hopefully, you can see the spring has a smal coil in it to hold it in place. Where it ends, it did bend and came back the same distance.

I wouldn't think so. A gun this age probably doesn't really have a finish on it, so you'd likely only be removing rust anyway. Do you sandblast? You may want to consider bead blasting, a bit less harsh than sand. I had another question for you as well. When it was assembled could you manually advance the cylinder? If you did did it appear to lock into the next position? Since this is clearly a Single Action Only pistol you don't have nearly as many intricate parts to deal with internally. In fact it might simply be a case of a piece being broken off of the hammer as manually cocking the hammer is what likely rotated the cylinder.

I haven't done any sand blasting in a while. Funny, I "needed" a sand-blasting cabinet really bad for a project I was working on several years ago. I couldn't afford one, so I made do. (and a mess) Klog and I went to buy one later on. I got home, and my wife had bought me a better one at a garage sale that very day. So, the new one got returned. Of course, by this time, the project was done. I have never used that cabinet. The other sanblasting projects I did were way too big for a cabinet.
I may have some bead. I can't remember off the top of my head.
When I cocked the gun, the cylinder would spin. There was nothing at all to turn it. It doesn't appear to have anything broke off, Other than a spring. In this picture, you can see a round hole at the bottom of the hammer. I wonder if the advancing mechanism was supposed to be here.

To clarify, when you cocked the hammer you could turn the cylinder manually or it did it on its own? In a SA only pistol the advance mechanism is normally tied directly to the hammer and is very basic.

I could turn it manually. The little hole in the hammer is on the same side as the slot in the frame. I thought that something may pivot on that hole. That would make it push forward and up when the hammer is cocked. It kind of made sense to me, anyhow.

Ok and yes, I believe you are correct. You are likely missing a relatively flat piece and a roll pin. The pin would hold that flat lever in place and allow it to pivot on the pin thus pushing the cylinder each time the hammer is cocked.

Eh, don't worry about it. You know you aren't likely to fire a round through it anyway. You can start with cleaning, rust removal and lube. Putting it back together should be a real treat. Pics, pics, pics. You have no idea, I'm frothing at the mouth. I love old gun restoration. Sadly I don't get to do that over here. I only work on modern firearms that belong to Uncle Sam.
I'd love to see some pics, myself.
I'll take some pictures for you. I just put it back together. Of course, a spring broke. I have no idea how to replace that! :001_rolle
All Right!!!
Here it is with just the hammer and hammer spring removed.

Cylinder and center pin removed.

In two shakes of a lamb's tail, I'll have a pic of the broken spring.
There they are. Nice. :thumbup1:
I appreciate the help. You stayed up late tonight.
Actually, I appreciate it, too. I don't normally do this, but I read y'all's whole conversation. Interesting stuff. If I end up with ANOTHER hobby complete with its own AD's, I'm coming after one of you.
So Blake, where did you find that old thing? Gun smithing is something I've always been interested in learning about. Truth be told, I'd love to get into some amateur rifle competitions, too. I'm just not sure I want pony up the dough for a serious rifle. Guns fascinate me, none the less, as does pretty much anything mechanical. The controlled chaos of firearms, though, makes them particularly interesting.

Adam! It's bad enough that you pee or fun, but do you really need to start developing other personality quirks? :tongue_sm
What!?! What are you talking about!?! Urine is one thing, poop is something all together different. I don't do skid marks. Poop makes me gag, remember?

I'll be sure to do that next time I see him.
He's still alive doing appearances, so you just might have that opportunity.
ahhh got ya!..I never really care THAT much for him. And I couldn't see him as a baby in Mork & Mindy if you remember that series...that was..strange.
I always thought he was (is) funny. The Russians are coming!
Um, I don't own a poodle or a pool... :out:
It's gonna melt your face right off of your skull, and make your iPod only play Jethro Tull. It will tell you knock-knock jokes while you're tryin' to sleep, and make you physically attracted to sheep. It will steal your identity and your credit cards, buy you a warehouse full of pink leotards, then cause a major rift in time and space and leave a bunch of Twinkie wrappers all over the place!
What the heck is wrong with you? I don't date people that eat dog biscuits! :glare:
And yet you complain about not having a date? Maybe you should stick to girls that smoke catnip.
Since we're talking about NC Div. I-AA schools with funny names, let's not forget about Furman......... You know, the Furman University Christian Knights.
Paladins. Don't forget the Wofford Terriers.
I have a friend that played softball at Furman. She always has an "FU" sticker on her car....
:lol::lol: I grew up near Francis Marion University, their stickers are FMU, which brings a few chuckles if you say it fast.
Technically Furman is in SOUTH Carolina :001_smile
:lol::lol::lol: That's right, we have 1001 UNCs! :lol::lol::lol:
Ya caught that, huh? Since I'm moving to SC soon, I was hoping to let NC claim Furman.
:lol::lol::lol:
That's what I was afraid of. :glare:
 Really?
and...as an added bonus you get Clemson and the USC Gamecocks
Hey! Leave Clemson out of this!
well your standers a higher than I thought!
:lol::lol::lol:
People that eat dog biscuits have clean teeth, strong bones and shiny hair. I think gollum should reconsider.
:tongue_sm
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
Seriously, though, those SoCon rivalries were a lot of fun. App State was our biggest competition. The best football game I've ever been to (and I've been to D-1 and NFL games) was the last time we played App State at home before I graduated. The stadium was packed beyond capacity, stupid loud, in the sweltering south GA heat, and the game was decided by a field goal. Both teams had legitimate play-off potential. Epic!
App State normally has a good football program. They have been nationally champs a few times in the last few years.
How about moving this to a sports thread, guys? Ya know, so I don't have to spend extra time trying to locate the usual nonsense. :tongue_sm
:lol::lol:
I stander at 5'7". Does he stander higher than that?
:lol::lol::lol:
I think the real answer is: what kinda dope names a horse after a day of the week. I'm jes sayin' ...
:lol::lol::lol:
:thumbup1:
yay! skidmarks!
 Leave your underwear out of this.
Did anyone see which way he went?
Thataway!

Weirdo.
