A Toggle is kind of Gillette DE razor, if you didn't know. I guess the 'Top' part of the title is just there to provide alliteration or something. Some of the titles are better than others.

Of course, if you go post something really stupid in public, you might end up with a custom title.

10^14 sq feet, I'm assuming?

It's just under 106 trillion square feet. What struck me as odd was that she didn't want it in square km, square miles, or anything other than square feet. Maybe it's just because I use the metric system that I found it odd. It's difficult for me to visualize square feet - I'm much more at ease with km squared.

I need new sunglasses any ideas?

Depends what you want. Polarized or non-polarized? How dark do you want the lenses?

I've owned two pairs of sunglasses all my life, both of which were Oakleys. One was stolen from me about 8 or 10 years ago. That one was quite old when that happened. The one I own now is the replacement to that one that got stolen - and it's in pretty good shape.

I just checked their website and it seems that Oakleys are pretty expensive now. My suggestion is that you go to a Sunglass Hut or something like that and take a look around at the styles. Try some glasses on, see what looks best and feels most comfortable. If you know you're not going to lose it or destroy it, spend the money on a good pair. I think I paid about $60 for my sunglasses, but I've had them for at least 8 years and they're still in great condition, so it was a bargain, in my opinion. If you're prone to losing things, then pick up something cheaper.

1. All women are nuts.

2. Klemperer it is. A great composer. Definitely one of the best of the 20th Century. Another legendary German conductor, Herbert von Karajan (born in Austria - very good conductor, but also a showman, which his later work suffered from), made a flight just to hear Klemperer perform Beethoven's 3rd symphony. After the performance, Karajan said to Klemperer that "I have come only to thank you, and say that I hope I shall live to conduct the Funeral March [the second movement of the 3rd symphony] as well as you have done".

If you've got some time and patience take a listen to this Toscanini version. The audio quality isn't too great, but it is fabulously conducted. He's got a great ear for detail. Also, how could you go wrong with a man witch such a great moustache? Also, I'm part Italian, so I've got to show my support for Toscanini. He once said "Gentlemen, be democrats in life but aristocrats in art". I believe that. Anyway... here's the link:

Not sure what the heck is going on lately. The Body Shop cream gave me the usual fantastical shave, but I had a bit of that tingling, stinging sensation again. This is the third time and third product this has happened to me. It's not painful, but it's not pleasant either. The Proraso tingle is nice, but this isn't like that. It's almost (but not quite) a burning sensation. What gets me is TBS cream has never done this to me before, and I am not a sensitive skin kind of guy. I am confused. I think Jim let a few of those gremlins through and they're messin' with me.

I am missing Fuzzy in here. I do hope he shows back up soon. Who else can I rope into being excessively silly on the boards?

The only thing that ever made me tingle actually went off to the Fuzz-Man. It was a puck of C&E Sandalwood. My skin is not sensitive at all, so it was extremely strange. Fuzzy said it was working for him and that he really liked it, so I'm glad it found a proper home.

Need to dust off my copy of Mozart's Requiem -- haven't played it in a while. Same for Beethoven's 9th. Before you ask, Dominic, the requiem is the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Herbert von Karajan. 9th (choral) -- Hungarian Philharmonic, Janos Ferencsik. Bargain bin buys, both.

To tell you the truth, this whole Chuck Norris craze that sprung out of nowhere pisses me off. I remember watching him in Walker Texas Ranger and some other things YEARS ago. All of a sudden, he springs back up, and people that have never seen him in a show or movie start making Chuck Norris jokes and claiming he's the manliest man ever. I'm thinking of making this my answering machine message:

Once upon an evening dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious TV Show of yore,
While I surfed, flipping channels, suddenly there came a ringing,
As of some bell loudly singing, singing near my kitchen door.
"Tis some solicitor," I muttered,"ringing at my kitchen door,
Only this, and nothing more."

Suddenly, the phone ceased it's ringing,
And my voice rang out, calmly singing,
"No one's home, please leave a message,
Only this and nothing more."

Then a beep, beep, beeping,
followed by a strange voice loudly pleading,
"Hello? Is anyone home? I implore!"
The machine answered for me,
All questions presented toward me,
with the simple word, "Nevermore."

Just a few minutes to check in now and maybe a bit later. I'm dog-ass tired working these morning shifts, but I'm getting weekends off which is nice. Did you ever notice though that on days off you tend to spend money? Sometimes money you don't have? That's not good.

I like your thread Jim, but I've gotta give it some thought and post something good. Actually I've just thought of one whilst I typed. You can check it over there next.

It sucks when you pull something in your groin. I tend to try and block out all the groin injuries I've had in the past ten years. I've had way, way too many of them. So much that I sometimes wonder if I'll ever be able to have kids.

Fuzzy

I've got an armchair that I constantly fall asleep in. I sit down in it and fall asleep in it quite often. It's very, very comfy.

I function quite well on little sleep. With an hour of sleep, I can go for another day without sleeping. However, when I'm tired, I'll fall asleep anywhere. A few years back, I fell asleep in a really uncomfortable stool at a kitchen island counter. I've also been known for falling asleep while typing up something or while sitting at my computer. A long time ago, I remember being at a particularly boring lecture and fell asleep. I later heard complaints by the lecturer that someone fell asleep and started snoring during his presentation. I can only assume those were from me.

Oh boy. At least be glad you can grow a beard. My lady won't come near me if I'm sporting a full beard. I used to love growing out a full beard in the winter - being able to grow a full beard in winter is one of the perks being a man brings.

It's a good thing the lady likes my goatee and doesn't mind the moustache (except for when I neglect trimming it for a while). If she didn't like the goatee I wear, she would have to go.

I wish I could get a good picture of my scuttle for you guys. It took three long hours of tedious work to get it back together, but I was successful!! I used some mega super glue gel for the actual assembly. After finishing the entire scuttle, I mixed up a big batch of two part epoxy and applied a healthy layer over the entire surface of the scuttle. That should make a big difference in the strength of the ceramic.

So what the hell is up with the video above? Guys attempting to play a metal song on cello's? Yikes!!!

I have spent all of last evening and most of this morning trying to repair my 10-yesr old son's PC. I had to uninstall the firewall and the antivirus program to be able to resize his Windows partition, which was completely full and only got to about 155 MB free after I cleaned off all the useless stuff I could identify.

Now I had reinstalled the antivirus and it is finding Trojans. I am considering letting it just continue to run Windows XP firewall instead of reinstalling ZoneAlarm.

Next I have to install XP Service Pack 3 in order to get all the latest security improvements, which is all I started out trying to do, last night. But when I found the C: drive full, everything just started snowballing from there. :001_huh:

Whew! :001_07:

Sounds kinda like building a puzzle, Rolls. Sounds like you've got that patched up.

I watched that cello metal video. The guy playing the cello and headbanging without a shirt looks absolutely ridiculous. It's not as bad as I would have thought, though.

I've been working with a marching band now for the past four years. Today was state festival, the culminating moment of all of everyone's hard work. It rained cats and dogs outside. The festival was held out on the field anyhow.

It was awful. 18 of our kids fell. Instruments were damaged. We had a twisted ankle, a broken finger and a rather severe asthma attack after the show. Cold, wet, rain being blown horizontal by the wind. Nothing about today was good except for the fact that the kids earned the rating they worked for all year long.

The thing is though, I've never been more proud. Some kids, hell, some adults would have gotten set back like that and just quit. These folks, between the ages of 14 and 17, they fought tooth and nail for seven and a half minutes and reaped the rewards. It makes me think, if they did this well and fought this hard during inclement conditions, what would they have done on a cloudless, sunny day? We'll never know the answer to that question, but it did me good today, even though I was a raindrenched mess, to see those young men and women out there on the field fight for what they got.

A few of these posts need answering.

First: headbanging, hair-headed, shirtless cellists while a novel idea don't do it for me. That was just plain goofy. How about the guy who was crowd surfing???. He'll hang his head in shame someday.

On the subject of computers, I will be wiping my wife's laptop tonight with the recovery CD's. I've done this a few times w/ different computers we've owned. While a PITA, it solves all computer problems. The real problem however is the kids. All these websites they go to are full of spyware, spam and viruses. Try and keep a kid from downloading files from the interweb though. They can't help themselves. My wife's laptop is mucked up like molasses right now. Congrats to you and your students for the shindig you put on today Shane. Overcoming adversity is truly something to be proud of.

Don't know about a Chicago dog, but here they sell Sedona dogs. One of those big, fat all beef dogs with tomato, onion and jalepenos stuffed in a potato bun. Add some catsup and spicy mustard and you've got yourself a dog!

Bought the Halloween candy today and a pumpkin for the little one to carve on. I like Halloween. It's fun watching all the kiddies and their costumes. Plus I get to eat candies to my hearts content  mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

at work, we use a program called Deep Freeze (http://www.faronics.com/html/deepfreeze.asp), what happens is when DF is active, you can do whatever you want to the computer, when you restart it, everything goes back to the original image...install whatever you want, uninstall whatever you want, delete the entire Windows directory - restart computer, back to where it was. Really good for student PCs, PITA for staff/teacher machine, since I hear this too often "I saved a file on my desktop, when I restarted my machine it was gone..." :cursing:
save...to...network...drive...!!!!
anyway, Microsoft has a similar program, SteadyState (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/sharedaccess/whatis/default.mspx#Restrict), I believe Micah has used it, I haven't, but it may be an option for you to setup for the kids' profiles...kinda like Sandbox, but is designed daily for use, not program testing

Hmm. That's interesting. I've never heard of these programs. But don't viruses go "deeper" than that. What I mean is don't they burrow themselves down in the registry or deep in the operating system where even system restore points don't get rid of them? Also even if you do bypass the bug, isn't it really still there; just cordoned off so to speak? I'm no IT guy so this is a layman talking, but I'm fairly computer savvy me thinks.

I don't know about the Microsoft one, but you cannot do anything to a computer with Deef Freeze active, they even cover it with some ridiculous promise, can't remember what it is, that it can't even be purposefully broken. I've had a couple of computers to come up with a virus, reboot, all gone. It's a powerful program for sure, so while you are correct, some virii can sneak past AV programs, DF is basically like a reformat/HD re-image on reboot, though it doesn't actually do that, that's basically what you can imagine it doing, and unless you have an external HD drive for keeping you documents, DF probably isn't the best thing for home use anyway, shoot Micah1_8 a PM about the MS one, I think he's installed it before

Baisclly deep freeze makes an image of the hd with what programs you want installed on it. Anything else gets wiped. So any viruses would be deleted. Its kinda like reformatting every time you reboot. A NAS or another dive would be needed for docs and stuff. Another option is you could split the drive into a windows drive, a program dive, and a data drive. If one bites the big one the other ones will still work. PM me or email or post here if you need more help.

It doesn't sound like DF is the thing to use on my wifes laptop. She and the kids like to save pics and stuff. Basically you're talking about partitioning right? I wouldn't mind if you showed me how to accomplish that. I could set it up after I format the laptop; it's too late for anything else now. They've got that thing all gummed up currently and there is nothing on it that can't be replaced after a format. I'll shoot you a PM w/ my email. Thanks for the info gents.

Just took a look at your new sig line bunny. I thought it stood for Cheddar Is Always Agreeable.

The wifey is reupholstering the dining room chairs tonight. She keeps calling me away from the important business at hand in TAT. She needs to be "reeducated".

I'll be interested to try this Salters cream Dom. You're the only one I hear talking about it. I've never even seen it anywhere. Where do you buy it? I would really like to pull the trigger on that MWF puck, but I just can't do it. I promised myself to pay these cards down before charging them into outer space. Plus which I've gotta buy a new dresser next weekend (termites: remember?).

We took some nice family photogs today. In all the years I've been an LEO I've never taken a nice, formal pic in uniform. Kinda odd if you think about that. At least I thought so. Anyhoo I cut quite the dashing figure if I do say so myself (and I do). First I took some solo pics and then some w/ the familia. Then we moved on to the theme family portrait. This is my wifes' big thing. We all wear the same thing and take a pic every five years or so. Today it was black long sleeve shirts and jeans. Turned out pretty good. My daughter works at a portrait studio so we get the big employee discount; woohoo . You know Shep is diggin' on that!

I'm totally into this weekend off thing. This is my second one in a row, and I'll be getting next weekend off too. This hasn't happened in I don't know how many years. It's nice to live like a human being for awhile: M - F day shift w/ weekends off. I can see what all the fuss is about now. Ok. That's enough jabbering for now. Time to hit 'submit reply'.

I bet the "reeducation" attempt goes horribly. Again, as per usual, I call first shot on your shaving den when your wife beats you up and makes you sleep outside.

The Salters... it's really great stuff. It's another English cream, not as well know as the three Ts, but it's GREAT (honestly, after hyping it up, I hope you like it as much as I do). I actually picked my mint up on the b/s/t a month or two ago after getting a sample of the Salters Rose a month before that. Salters and TOBS are two brands of creams I know I will see myself constantly replacing. I know that QED carries Salters. A quick Google search turned up Sesto Sesto and Classic Shaving as well. A bit pricier than TOBS, but the containers are larger and you do get more cream.

With regards to the MWF, have you ever tried it before? (I'm an enabler. I'm sorry, Shep.)

Nope. It gets hyped in the same category as Tabac. That's why I'm jonesing to try it.

I hear looping songs over an over in your head is your brain's way of trying to scratch an itch.

I just think of sandpaper.

Quick name that 80's comic.

Also, I had Spice Girls stuck in my head. Now I have Dance to the Music by Sly and the Family Stone playing on a loop in there. I hear looping songs over an over in your head is your brain's way of trying to scratch an itch.

Ihad the theme song from "Green Acres" stuck in my head the other day.... that sucked hard.....

Tabac > MWF

Tabac is hands down greater than MWF, at least in my opinion. If you still want to take it for a spin, let me know. I can grate some off my puck for you, send my puck to you to try out, or hook you up with a puck for $13 to your door.

EDIT:
No idea what the 80s comic is.

I saw Pride and Glory tonight and it was a real disappointment. If your interested in it you might think about waiting until it comes out in netflix because the movie house price was just not worth it IMHO.

It's 3AM and I'm not tired in the least. I have some old trazodone I can take. (I'm glad Dave brought it up a few pages ago, I forgot I had some). I think I'll take it 10 minutes before I want to zzzzzzzzzz.

I'm on your page exactly. Haven't been able to fall asleep before 4 AM for the last three nights. Asleep at 4:30 AM last night, awake at 8 AM. I should seriously be exhausted by now.

I agree with you (so far) that Tabac is greater than MWF, but I'm thinking I might like MWF better in the winter when my face gets really dry... we shall see.

I find that the lather and cushion from Tabac are so much better than MWF. As for moisturizing... Boston winters are pretty dry and windy, so seeing as I just got my MWF a month or two ago, I'll put it to the test this winter and see how moisturizing it truly is.

Steven Wright was the comic's name. He had all kinds of goofy observations like thinking of sandpaper. All delivered in a deadpan voice. Pretty funny guy.

If you wouldn't mind you could shave some off and send it to me so I could try one or two shaves. That would be great. If I like it, maybe I'll buy the puck (with the understanding that you answer to my wife. She scares me!). I'm beginning to get embarrassed here Dom. You're sending a lot of stuff my way, and I'm not reciprocating. I don't think I have anything to give that you'd want or couldn't easily get locally. How did you like the Stephan Lime or Lilac AS? I could drop ship a bottle to you as payback.

OldSaw went Benedict Arnold on us! I'd be hurt except I like his description: "...a thread about absolutely nothing..." I like that. Very Seinfeldesque. Cory HAS to appreciate that.

And it does sort of surprise me how we've taken off. Most of my threads die off with mild to no interest, but this one has legs as Shane pointed out. Vive la TAT!

I'll look into Steven Wright tomorrow (going to sleep soon). I'll shave some off and toss it in the envelope with the stuff I was going to send to you today. Guess it was a good thing I forgot your address at home. I'm not going to answer to your wife, Shep. I've already got to answer to my girlfriend (I guarantee that she's just as scary as your wife). I haven't sent you that much, Shep. We traded aftershaves, you sent me soap, I'm sending you some CDs and some soap and cream. I'd say we're pretty even if you ask me, so no need to send me a bottle of AS. I did make some posts when I tried them in this thread. Don't know if you saw them or not, but I did really enjoy the Lilac and liked the Lime, but it wasn't what I was looking for in a lime AS.

By the way, I'll be swinging by Smallflower's store while in Chicago to pick up a Speick shave stick. If anyone wants me to pick one up for them while I'm there, let me know.

This isn't a thread about nothing. It's a thread about anything. Or something. Or everything. Or whatever. Sleepy now. This is good.

Boys, stop fighting or I'll tell your mothers!

No good football on TV here today. Guess we'll go out and look at dressers. Found a place up the road that sells refurbished, supposedly good quality stuff for cheap. Shep likes cheap. We'll see.

Never eaten a fig unless you count fig newtons. One of my favorite cookies. Also when I was younger my dad used to buy a snack cracker thing that was called Figs. They were long and thin; kind of in the shape of a cigarette. Anybody remember these? They were kind of spicy and really tasty.

I think we're having enchiladas tonight. My wife makes great authentic Mexican enchiladas. Since she's an authentic Mexican herself this makes sense though . Ok. Off to look at dressers. Later boys.

Is tonight when we'll be 'dressing up' in our pancake bunny 'costumes'?

burningdarkness
10-26-2008, 02:08 PM
okay, so, Sunday October 26th, 10 ET, 9 CT, etc, etc
we need to our less tech-savvy brethren to spoliate the Linux thread, we need some of our newer, recent anything brethren to revive, 1+ year old posts, and just randomness all around
we'll make our avatar the pancake bunny (http://heresabunnywithapancakeonitshead.com/)
we'll make our sig line " I have no idea what you're talking about... so here's a bunny with a pancake on it's head"
and that will also be the only thing we post in the ones we spoliate...
let's just be respectful of new member posts, and serious questions, probably don't want to foul up the B/S/T either, unless it's one of the 'selling nothing' posts (someone who doesn't meet the minimum requirements to sell and gets their post edited by a mod, those should be okay)
Ooh, to get more traffic, we may link to our "Anything thread" in our sig, too

Bumping this up, boss.
