Thayer's Rose witch hazel?

I was looking at the various bottles of Thayer's at the health food store - they have aloe vera, lemon, and rose. The labels on the aloe and the lemon say astringent, which is what I need... but the rose only says toner. Being witch hazel, shouldn't this be an astringent as well? I haven't smelled the aloe vera, but if I had to choose between lemon and rose, I'd go for the rose. Lemon is just way too potent and I don't want to reek of Pledge.

The Rose is very nice. I notice no difference in the way it works comparing it with the Lavender and the Aloe.

I would go with the Rose, it's more beneficial and soothing.

Just for a side note, but did you know that "Lemon Pledge" has more lemons it in than "Minute Maid Lemonade?". True statement..

I bought rose after hearing some good reviews here. I'm not crazy about the scent. No offense to the guys who like it, but I think it smells feminine. I'm not sure how long that takes to go away.

One bottle goes a long way, so I guess it will be awhile before I need to buy any more. I really just prefer an alum block.

I have used both the Lemon and Rose Thayers Witch Hazel. I was initially considering the rose as an aftershave with my Taylor's Rose Shaving Cream and so I bought it for my wife so I could give it a try (cool move, huh?). It's scent was true rose for about the first 5 to 10 seconds after it was applied and then the scent degraded into something else rose-like but not quite the real thing - at least on me. I noted that the ingredients included propylene glycol and methylparaben. That left the lemon version. Like you, I was concerned about smelling like furniture polish.

Banish the thought. Thayers Lemon Witch Hazel is my daily aftershave because it's ingredients are all natural with no propylene glycol and methylparaben, the alcohol preservative does not dry or irritate me in the slightest, I really really like the lemon scent, the aloe moisturizes my skin nicely, and my face feels great after I use it. The lemon scent is a very pleasant, clean, and refreshing scent that does not linger but is very enjoyable as it is applied and for a short time thereafter. This witch hazel has the unusual ability to bring out the scent of the shave cream that you used prior to applying it. I use the lemon witch hazel as an aftershave with Taylor's Rose Shaving Cream (I know it sounds weird), Tom's of Maine Calendula Shave Cream, and C&E Sweet Almond Oil Shave Soap and after a brief lemon splash, I am again enjoying either a mild rose scent, fresh calendula, or sweet almonds. This product has displaced all other aftershaves for me except for one and that is the Nancy Boy Aftershave Gel which I usually use only with Nancy Boy Shave Cream. Nancy Boy Shave Cream and Aftershave Gel is a great combination and anyone using just the shave cream is missing out on a large part of the experience. I think that the Thayers Lemon Witch Hazel is also a reasonable value. It is only available locally here in LA's suburbs at Whole Foods Market.

The rose scent lasts for about 20 seconds on me then goes away. I have never found it to conflict with either the smell of a balm or cologne.

I think the reason the Aloe Vera version is labeled as an astringent and the others are not is that the Aloe Vera version is the only one to use alcohol. That said I agree with everyone else. I have used the lavender and the aloe vera versions of Thayers and both perform equally.
