Hey there,

I recently picked up a 55 Blue Tip, and while I know that it's a relatively unaggressive razor, I am having issues shaving with it. My shaves are coming out extremely stubble-ridden, with a lot of visible hair etc.

Often, it doesn't even feel like the razor is cutting at all.

I have it loaded with an Astra Platinum blade, but tomorrow I'm going to try a Derby and see if there's any different.

My usual shave is a Merkur HD, and I realise that it's different.. but I don't know exactly what I'm doing wrong :(

Any ideas?

It's not just you.:wink:The Blue Tip is a super mild shaver on a par with a Weishi. I found it next to useless.

Did you find that varying angles helped at all? I'm fine with it being very mellow, etc (I bought it for days my face was tender or I didnt really feel like shaving), but this seems excessive

"bum fluff",or "Peach Fuzz"as American's know it.

I think success with the blue-tip is relative to beard type and desired result. I have a medium/light beard and I don't care for BBS so the blue tip is a very compatible razor for me. In fact it is one of my favorites.

I thoroughly enjoy my blue tip, and get very nice, "socially acceptable shaves" with two passes WTG. A three pass shave, when I have the time to do it, really polishes things up...

That having been said, I would imagine that if one has a very coarse beard, the blue tip might be a bit on the mild side no matter the blade...

I feel about my Tech the way you do about the blue tip, although I really like the head thickness of the Tech...

Plus if you are having three or more days of growth you wouldn't be reaching for the blue tip in the first place. That would be like dialing an Adjustable to "1" whilst having that growth.

I have a 7 o'clock (yellow) blade in my blue tip, and while certainly less agressive than my HD, gives a good shave with 2 passes. Plan on trying one with a Feather blade to see if there is a difference.

Thanks for the suggestions guys :)

I'll grab a pack of feathers the next time I place an order somewhere and see if it gives me some better results :)

You might want to try the silver SS I believe it is medium aggresiveness. I have one and enjoy the shaves without hurting myself.

I shave most of the time with a super adjustable at settings #5 WTG, #2-3 ATG1 and at #3-4 ATG2.
With a feather blade it is a comfortable shave.

I remembered the advanced techniques of Mantic where he would shave diagonally (going sideways and down at the same time).
I tried this but it is too easy to get bitten if you go more sideways than down.
Now the last couple of days I gave a twist to this technique by putting the razor head in the half nine to half three position (think slant) and going straight down.
You cut the same as Mantic but you only have to move in one direction which makes it more difficult to get nicked.
I did this the last couple of days and it adds to the shave.

I think you will find the Red Tip is more comparable to your HD, you are used to. Both are very fine razors in my opinion.
Kind regards
