Randy, you will truly enjoy those shave creams.
The scents were intoxicating! ALL of them! Now, which one for tomorrow???
Randy
I've won two other auctions on ebay, these are the treasures:
Bismarck, Wade&Butcher and the DORKO
Now I'm really curious how they are and how they shave.
But I think I have to hone the razors, not by myself, a friend of mine is perfect in honing straights...

Two genuine ivory, boar bristle, militairy oval hair brushes; got to clean the bristles though, but they are really in superbe condition; don't know wether i'm going to use these, but they are really beautiful to display combined with other genuine ivory items such as shaving brush, tootbrush etcetera....

I got the Noxzema Lather Shave Cream yesterday - new and unused. I know it's no longer made so I was curious.

[Edit] also got one of these flash units a few weeks back:

I finally found the local organic food store and picked up a bottle of KMF Peaceful Patchouli Shave Cream.
They also had the Weleda and Earthscience products. After reading TraderJoes glowing reviews, I may need to pick up some Weleda ASB.
Finally, they had a cream by the name of Annemarie Borlind that I was tempted to try? Any ideas?

Enjoy the KMF!
The Weleda is a superb ASB, a little goes a long way, and it does wonders for healing your skin. Just be sure the scent agrees with you (although its rather fleeting), its a very "earthy" smell.
I picked up a nice assortment of Arko products (a tube of Commando, a tube of Citrus, and five Barber's Shaving Cream sticks). As a major bonus, the pipe I ordered form Italy arrived! It's a breathtaking piece made by Gabriele Dal Fiume, a relative newcomer to the scene -- but a carver with amazing talent. The grade is SB (sandblast), and the pipe is stamped with DG's butterfly, indicating a superb example of the grade and an intricate design. The cumberland stem is a nice touch. The stain is a great mixture of rich browns, mostly medium and dark. The variations were hard to catch, but I think I showed them well in the last photo.

Beautiful Pipe Ben.
I agree (I can't really say thanks because I didn't make the pipe). I look forward to smoking it. In fact, I may take the long weekend to start breaking it in. My pipe collection is centered around Italian pipes, and this one really is a lovely combination of Italian and Danish influences.
The Arko is on tap for tonight's shave.
How do you break in your pipes?
I always used white burley- but its been about 18 years since I got a new pipe!
Jim,
I usually smoke whatever I'm gonna smoke in the pipe. Some pipes are just quicker to mellow than others, and when I find one that will benefit from a fast cake build-up I usually reach for fine-cut and shag-cut tobaccos. Gawith Hoggarth & Co. makes several nice ones. Of that house's offerings, I prefer Kendal Mixed. Esoterica Margate is a real winner for those who like English blends on the more stout side. Finally, I keep a stash of Three Castles, which is really stringy shag. It's been out of production for a long time, and I have a couple 3.5-oz tins of it. This lemon Virginia is pure and so naturally sweet that I have to really restrain myself. I figure my tins are at least 10 years old. Three Castles was sold as RYO tobacco for cigarette smokers.
SCS Lavender Shave Creme - for me
SCS Savor Rose Aftershave Milk and EDT - for my dad's birthday

I didn't get anything today, but Kyle's here! Yeah! Great to see buddy!

Ironic that you should say that Ben, since my first thought was that it looked awfully Japanese for an Italian pipe. Truly beautiful, however. That stain is remarkable.

Thanks! It is very good to be back.
Anticipating Kyle's return, I planned some celebratory Truefitt & Hill and Mama Bear Acquisitions.

I was thinking along the lines of the Danish egg, scoop, and brandy shapes. But yeah, I do see some Japanese sensibility there too.
That's one smart looking pipe, Ben. Is it heavy?

For my birthday, a starter type set from Art of Shaving from some good friends. The Sandlewood cream is great as is the scritchy little brush in Pure Badger. Also, two straights in a coffin case from my parents. My Dad is a Civil War collector but doesn't know much about razors. I'm hoping these two are that era.
From my Uncle just because: A Case Red Imp given to him by my great-grandfather so "he could shave correctly." He used it from his late teens into his early twenties. A family heirloom in the making.
Finally, a 40's Super Speed I won on eBay I got along with 3 GEM Micromatics for $4 shipped. I cleaned it up and have been using it this week. Nice little razor.
Very nice straights! I especially like the horn and bone scales.

KMF rulez in my book, get the fragrance free too it is just SUPERB...

My thoughts exactly. Emphasis on the "chunk". The thing is massive, although I must say that the birdseye along the bottom really is quite stunning as well.

Oy, that was a cheap shot indeed! Wait 'til you see the photograph I'm going to post in that picture thread NOW...(Ever see that episode of Family Guy?)
But yes, these were my first Crocis - would that be the plural? Certainly not collectors grade, but the size and grain seemed markedly superior to the other Croci offerings, so I gambled and bought blind. So far, I've been impressed.

Feh. You know I was teasing.
The shapes you bought are appealing, and I often think that pipes outside of the collector grade in general offer more as far as price/quality ratio is concerned. What impresses me is top-shelf fit and finish, regardless of grade.

My order of Dominica Bay Rums finally arrived. Its a very different scent but starting to grow on me. I got the razors from a couple Ebay auctions. I cleaned and steamed the razors with some jewelry equipment and they came out great. The slim adjustable looks like Brand New!

:glare: Forgiven.
I'd certainly agree with you that collector's grade pipes offer a far greater return on quality for the price, but then I happen to see one of these and suddenly I'm not so sure anymore...

Sure, a top-grade pipe by Kent or Teddy would be an amazing addition to my collection, but since I'm a collector-smoker, such a purchase would be tough to make. I just can't let pipes sit on the rack.

Here are my acquisitions for this week (and a bit into last week) in no particular time order:
http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/4098/acquisitions1um0.jpg
Penhaligon's Endymion Cologne
Proraso (Obviously)
Creed Silver Mountain Water
Gillette Tech
Gillette Rocket (Not sure of date, has British Pat. Num. 694093)
Gillette Superspeed 1965 4th Quarter
Gillette Superspeed 1964 4th Quarter
L'Occitane Cade Shaving Soap
Stypic Pencil
Feathers
96 Isreali Personnas (I counted, I need to get out more)
All of the items have obvious uses.
I must thank fatpig for the link to the eBay item for the Penhaligon's. http://www.badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=9266
The razors were from eBay and in very good nick, but alas I managed to give them a layer of brass or copper thanks to me boiling them in a vinegar/water mix with some junky razor. After several hours of dremel buffering and brasso polishing I managed to restore them to pretty good condition.
Anyway not bad a bunch of loot for me, it has pretty much doubled my shaving supplies and I have much more eBay and B&B goodies to come next week.

My sentiments exactly, although oddly enough I'd have no problem simply displaying other functional works of art - a vase, for example. There's just something about a pipe that demands that you smoke it.

He had a clause in the eBay page saying that it may not be accurate because it is hand packed. I just wish it was over not under.
Well I will put the vinegar episode down to learning. Looks like it is boil to death with water and then just rub rub rub with polish.
